  1. We really need poll options that allow multiple voting on one of these polls... So I can vote don't know AND don't care
  2. Exactly, see, we have a few international members, and some of them come from non-english speaking backgrounds - their English is poor, but nowhere near this bad. All of them recognise a problem with their english, and naturally being from a non-english speaking background means thats to be expected, but all of them have said "sorry my english is not that good" or something to that effect. Whether or not he is being lazy, or if he truly has issues with english spelling and grammar, he is old enough where he should know better. It disgusts me that the education system in this country can allow children to progress through their grades without being able to spell. I can tell you right now that if we did not graduate children out of primary\state school (year 6 or equivalent) until they could pass a reasonably thorough spelling test, the kids who weren't able to spell because they didn't care, would pick it up pretty damn fast - and their parents would make sure of it, being that the child would be stuck in school indefinitely until he passed it. Now I understand those with Dyslexia could also be affected by this, but as so often happens these days, kids with dyslexia are treated as intellectual retards and placed into special classes, so hopefully this process would also aid to diagnose those with dyslexia and get them the assistance they require. This "Jake" is obviously in his teens, so there is no excuse that he is too immature, so its either his education system, or he is lazy. Either way it should have been picked up by his school, because I guarantee he would have learnt quick smart if all his friends got to move up a year and he had to stay back because of his spelling. And oh, what a surprise - he's in a "Gange" - the "Cazza Dee Boys". Reminds me of the "Bra Boys" in sutherland... and look what happened there a year ago... oh what fun it could be for Victoria to experience also....? To those who are "Defending" him... it does not take much to use spell checker. This isn't SMS or instant chat, a person has the time to type out their response, spell check it, and then paste it into the webpage without haste, so there is no excuse for laziness. I can understand what he writes, but barely. Its like having a conversation with a 4 year old... except its on a screen instead of verbal. The nearest 4 year old I know - my nephew - can spell better than that.
  3. really makes you wonder about the education system in victoria doesn't it?
  4. The trick with these is you need to find toboggans that have the brakes set for speed. Anything that has new brake pads... put it back. You want brake pads that have no square edges on them at all - all nicely rounded - This means that on the fast track your brake panels won't contact the track on track joins \ turns etc. Regardless of the brake pads however, if you are pushing the stick forward (not letting it rest in the middle where the pads do rub slightly) you will accelerate all the way down the mountain because it is DOWNHILL It does not seem like you are going fast on the straights, because the straights have less joins, and less welds, so the click-clack sound you hear is not as frequent. It is possible to tip your toboggans, but it comes down to weight management. Lean with the corners, but don't over lean, and you will never have a problem. When we were there at the pleasure of Jamberoo, which included walk-ons to everything with our special press passes, I took the time to experiment with the toboggans. In the end I would load my own toboggan and keep using the same one, once I found one with some good worn pads, loose wheels and a nice even keel. Being that we were shooting photos at the same time, this was a must, as I kept the brake lever pushed forward by crossing one leg over the top of it - No brakes all the way down.... nice.
  5. Skeet, i'd stop right there buddy. Clint happens to be in a very good position with WVTP. He is not by any stretch of the imagination talking himself up. He is abiding by the very strict confidentiality and non-disclosure policy that all employees of WVTP are required to abide by. Clint has not given away anything secret, and not gone into more detail than he is permitted to, which at least tells us there is something coming. Permits and permissions are temporary. Long term plans will go ahead, eventually. Clint is the last person on this board that you could accuse of talking himself up. His information, where available, is always as much information as he is permitted to disclose, as soon as he is allowed to disclose it. While he doesn't require defending in any way, shape or form, you wanna start making comments like that and you will have to take it up with me first. I've never known him to provide information that was false. He has also had (that I know of) several discussions with some very senior members of WVTP as a result of his position with the group, and given his interest and passion in theme parks in general, these discussions sometimes do turn out to be related to our favourite topic. This is how he knows these things, and believe me, as soon as he can tell us what it is, he will. In saying that I've also realised that my long habit of saying WVTP is now wrong and it should read VRTP, but I couldn't be bothered changing it all...
  6. And with the concept being so interesting, and yet so undeniably confirmable, or is that unconfirmably deniable? or is it plausibly deniable? or plausibly confirmable? or could it be that it is undeniably plausible? To hell with that... without confirming anything, you're obviously aware of something thats definitely not going on, and definitely not being planned for our parks that is definitely not exciting and definitely not anything we definitely don't want to know about because it is definitely undeniably confirmed that it is completely plausible that nothing is happening. *needs to lay off the cough medicine*
  7. So Clint what you're saying is that by a new storage area being built that will house things that have previously been housed elsewhere, that the places they were previously housed will no longer be required, and hence open those places up for future expansion?
  8. Actually- and I address this at the both of you involved - The forum community guidelines discuss the use of correct spelling and grammar within the forums, to encourage intelligent and mature conversation. Capitalisation of words where appropriate, including the letter I in cases of "I went to the park" This is not instant messenger or chat, it is a forum where each user has the ability to form properly worded responses, and if necessary, use a spell checker also. The "Grammar Police" do exist on these forums, but it is moreso a community wide group thing, where all members should be POLITELY pointing out, or private messaging, any major issues with a person's post. Note that this should not include the odd Typo, unless it is continuously occurring. I have no authority on this forum, but don't see a point in mindless mud slinging and arguments over grammar or spelling. Bottom line is all members should be making the effort to post correctly, and all OTHER members should be tactful in their approach to a person who has made an error in doing so.
  9. not to mention that it is absolute rubbish that they FORCE you to hire a locker and forbid you to go outside. You can: 1) hire a full day locker - near the photo kiosk and other locations 2) leave your stuff with someone else before you enter 3) hire a short term locker for SE, which lasts for an hour, in most cases letting you ride at least twice 4) don't ride, reducing the queues for the rest of us who chose options 1-3 Agreed it's been done to death from the moment the ride was built, and hey since then Movie World has only installed 3 more new attractions, so it isn't THAT old a topic..... not.
  10. Glad that someone mentioned Beverly Hills Cop 3, but theres additional theme park footage that wasn't shot in Great America - The "Alien Attack" scene is from one of the universal backlot tours - pretty sure it's hollywood - the "earthquake" scene. Also in that movie - I just flipped because it had a THREE armed Zodiac. An obscure movie from the early 90's also features Universal Studios, as well as the Nintendo Entertainment System and the "PowerGlove", with the kid from the Wonder Years. It was called the Wizard, and features on foxtel every couple of months. Colossus at Magic mountain also featured on the opening credits of Step By Step - an 80's tv show. The following information came from Google. The Bachelor- A couple shots of SFMM's Colossus (within the first seven minutes of the movie). Dangerous Minds - A couple shots of the Giant Dipper at The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Death to Smoochy - Some snow shots with Coney Island Cyclone in the background (first ten minutes of the movie). Hootie and the Blowfish: Summer Camp with Trucks - The band takes a venture through Dorney Park. The Lost Boys - Some nice night shots of the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. National Lampoon's Vacation - Shots of Magic Mountain (pre Six Flags). Includes the Revolution (pre-harnesses) and the Colossus (good shot from the parking lot before they flattened the double-camelback). Richie Rich - Iron Wolf from Six Flags Great America. Smokey and the Bandit II - A couple minutes worth of the destruction of Greyhound at Lakewood Fairgrounds near Atlanta, Georgia
  11. The block and tackle is definitely not used for lifting riders. Mainly, the block and tackle overhead is used to lift out components, or coaster cars, when doing maintenance. So if a set of brakes needs replacing, or in the absence of a maintenance run like there is on scooby, lethal or SE, to remove a coaster car from the track, the block and tackle would be used here also. Look for anchor points or bolts on the coaster cars, generally closer to the centre of gravity for each car, where this "hook" could be hitched.
  12. sell it to Sunway... they have a great reputation with doing something great with theme parks that are tanking...
  13. Yeah - I don't think they're using magnets in WnW. I was there last week and i'm pretty sure they were just big hand drawn X's using a whiteboard marker. I agree with Richard, a digital display board would be good. Network wise it wouldn't be that hard. WnW and Movie World's ride photo boards are linked together and accessible from either location, so a reasonably established network is out and about there... Spending the money on a digital board in theory is ok, with LED boards etc, but I think a simpler system would be better - imagine this: At the entrance of every ride, which would already have the cabling etc for communications etc, a simple LCD display monitor or plasma. All linked to the network and all displaying all the rides in the park and their current wait time. Benefits of this method are: 1) infinite expansion, it can be updated to show anything the park wants to - so it can be used to advertise. 2) not only could this board show the ride wait times, but it could also show when another show within the park was about to start... shrek, police academy \ whatever 3) not prone to tampering 4) being at every ride means that the boards are not in themselves a clusterpoint, anybody, going to any ride, can see immediately what the wait is expected to be at the ride they are going to, and alternatives with shorter wait times. In theory it would be good... but the bottom line is that dreamworld's wait boards would look something like the attachment below.
  14. December and January are the wet season in Queensland. Its a tropical climate - summer = wet. I know the gold coast has a reputation as a summer destination, but in reality, its wet season, and it IS going to rain. I don't feel sorry for those people who have holidays up there. Planning a family holiday you need to look at weather, as well as travel and accomodation, before you book... simple as that.
  15. I don't know about the SC2000, but has anyone mentioned a Sierra Sidewinder? I think that would be awesome.... lol... Sorry Gazza couldn't resist it. I'm still up for a well designed woodie, but I'll settle for a nicely designed B&M Flyer.
  16. Can't resist having a dig at Dreamworld after that comment.... I mean seriously.... Dreamworld have always been about the fastest, the tallest, the biggest, the first in australia - but that doesn't make them the BEST. Let Dreamworld have their World Record Holders.... I'll be happy with a nicely designed coaster, built with care and purpose, with a story to it, and a queue that works... I guess that means i'm waiting for MW to build one.... cause Dreamworld aint doin that anytime soon. my vote is Scooby Doo, purely from the theming perspective. Theres something about a dark smoke filled room, with lasers and strobes that gets me all riled up....
  17. A Giant Drop Ride \ Tower drop ride that uses a catch car to take the Cabin to the top always leaves the catchcar at the top at night. Simple reason is if you have the catchcar at the bottom of the tower all night, you have a very long length of cable, run down a very tall tower, with many things attached to the side, including guide rails, brake fins, bolts, rivets and many other things that the cable can bounce around on and rub on in the wind. By leaving the catch car at the top, the cable doesn't bounce around, and therefore reduces the risk of the cable failing on the ride, as it doesn't wear out anywhere near as quickly. This is also why a lot of drop style rides don't operate in heavy wind.
  18. Out of curiosity, was there more than one child who sang \ made a noise?
  19. You know what's worse than copying and pasting a story to start off a topic with a great talking point? People who kill the conversation immediately by harassing the thread starter about lack of commentary, without offering some commentary themselves. Don't get me wrong Gazza, I agree with you, but its very unlike you not to offer your views at the same time. Tony on the other hand only repeated what you said, which didn't help things any and only stood to further kill the topic. I'd be interested to know what reports were held back as being "not in the public interest". To me this says a more serious incident that would undermine the confidence in the ride, but, under freedom of information, this is the report I would more prefer to know about. Seems quite a few little issues at the log ride, maybe that will get shut down next - as far as reef diver, I've always thought that the inertial travel of the ride would stop you from falling out. Thats why the restraints are only velcro - moreso to prevent you trying to stand up or move around. Unless the ride was elevated, and not rotating, the rider's restraint coming loose would have done very little unless he attempted to move around, which was in itself stupid, and entirely his own fault. As far as the operator laughing, this is probably moreso overhyped by the mother or other bystander. Its more likely the operator was looking up at the ride and had the sun in his eyes, and did a "squint smile" that the mother misconstrued as him laughing. Explosion at movie world? lost an eye? What the? Let's find out more about this one... Interesting to note though that WVTP's injuries are moreso staff and back of house people than guests, while dreamworld appears to have a little more on the guest side.
  20. Don't get too excited Gazza, let's remember how much Dreamworld trumpeted MDMC! Of course, I doubt WVTP would make that kind of mistake...
  21. If you'll note Gazza, that image was provided by me. I have spoken to the guys at Jamberoo and as I said, from memory, the plans were to install the new river and billabong to open the park up to further expansion in the old billabong and river area. I'll get back to you with the info I have, once i've had an opportunity - its all on my old laptop.
  22. Gazza, they're not duplicating their rides. From memory they are building the new before removing the old to build more new. i'll have to check the plans, but i'm pretty sure this is the case.
  23. Richard: 2 Churros: 0 I had thought, at this time, of posting a picture of a person with down's syndrome, as a baseless insult towards churros' intelligence level, like he did with the fat guy in the WnW improvement thread. I won't, purely because I know a few people who have down's syndrome who are markedly more intelligent than the people who insult them, and I won't stoop to his level all the same. I will however go one further than Richard on this one and say something that I think a lot of forum members will back me up on - when I say to Churros - PUT UP OR SHUT UP. Richard is bang on the money when he defends his "neutrality" over all of the parks. In fact in the past R-C.com.au received more accomodating attention from Dreamworld than Warner Village in the past, under WVTP's media policies, and this is further shown by the media event and on-ride footage obtained at the Motocoaster launch. I have to admit I have a bias when it comes to Dreamworld vs. Warner Village, however that bias comes from numerous disappointing visits to dreamworld, and numerous memorable ones to the Warner parks. I typed this last night but forgot to post it, so forgive me if this is a little late and the conversation has continued on since then...
