  1. Holy Crap! Avis Vintage Cars is closed during construction of a brand new attraction opening later in the year? When did this all happen? I didn't realise it was closed! OOOOoooooooohhhhhhhhh - a BRAND NEW ATTRACTION is going to open later in the year.... I wonder what it could be? *For those of you too inept to decipher, this post has been specially coated with a layer of Sarcasm*
  2. The only problem I have with that statement is "stay stagnant". The park is nowhere near stagnant. Macquarie leisure could work off their current set up for more than a year. I guarantee less than half the membership of this site has visited WWW to date, and most people who holiday up there yearly may not have had time to alter their holiday arrangements to include it in the last holiday season. The statement of "we'll do it next year" would have been uttered often by those holidaying over the christmas break quite often. The park will see itself through the next year without a problem. I'd say the earliest expansion we will see of WWW will not begin until this time next year. Richard's statement on the CapEx sharing of the two parks should be spot on. We should see DW and WWW alternate attractions each year, with the occasional co-inciding attraction every few years to really WOW those holidaymakers. I can't see any of the gold coast parks making any bad decisions to date. They are all doing a very good job with new attractions, additions and so on, and there isn't any more that any of them can do at the moment to one-up themselves against the competition, at least without going into extraordinary debt.
  3. I think a studio backlot tour, like Universal L.A. would be great. It would be costly to set up - obviously not as costly as setting up a proper building, but this would benefit the park in more ways than one - setting up a backlot provides on-set places to film future movies, and the theming of this area is easily changed, as shown by Universal. An attraction like this would also make the park a full-day attraction, as the backlot could take up quite a bit of time. This would also utilise the space at the back of the park which to-date cannot be used because of the neighbours over the back fence and the noise concerns. The water tank published in the paper which was constructed for fools gold could also feature in this backlot set tour. Chuck in a couple of animatronic buildings or characters from previous WB or VR movies and there you have it. Its not something you would do to save money in an off-season while you're not building rides, because it would cost more than most smaller rides they would want to put in, but it would: increase the park's capacity tremendously keep people in the park for longer open up new expansion areas bring in new theming possibilities, not to mention the merchandise to go with those new themes make filming of certain movies a lot easier - for example instead of shooting superman returns on the fox backlot, it could be shot on WB\VR's closed set backlot, custom designed to fit... not to mention that as opposed to Fox, where the facades had to be torn down at the end of the movie, it could be just another addition to the backlot tour at WBMW!
  4. photographically speaking, I will guarantee that little or no post-process editing (such as photoshop) has been applied to this photo. Its just a nice, sharp, wide angle lens, using a circular polariser (the angle of the shadows on the ground puts the sun to the left of the shot, which rings true to the fact that the sky is light blue to the left and darker on the right. Its possible that an intensifier has also been used, but since this is digital, using the "vivid" colour setting on any good quality DSLR will do pretty much the same thing. Its nice, but its not an above average shot, considering that it was done by a decent photographer to begin with.
  5. Lets not forget that Bounty's Revenge and Dragons Flight found their places within the SunWay Water Park. Apparently they were quite a hit.
  6. now the ring walk has been around for a while, and this is nothing to do with the possible tourist organisation. the one massive hole is from the quarry that used to \ still exists on the site. As I said, IF - IF - IF - this is confirmed, they won't even break ground for another ten years.
  7. I could not have said it any better myself dj. I drove past today and saw the lie of the land around the goldrush area myself. It brought back memories... I could see all the rides and buildings and where they should be - even without all the trees there.
  8. WnW has a larger variety of attractions, and being that its after 3pm, you're generally either finished school or work, and just want to cool off. Besides in the summer peak times when theres dive n movies, the $21 at WnW goes a lot further than $15 at WWW
  9. Speaking of DA's, and I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN SAID BEFORE... but according to someone very reliable within the construction industry, there is currently a DA in for the homebush olympic site by a well known tourism corporation. Expect it to take about 10 years before the ground is broken, but apparently its there. If I can get more information through i'll let you all know.
  10. Yes, in this day and age of "what's your best price" and "do you price match?" in the retail world, an organisation that can charge whatever it wants, knowing full well that people will pay (within reason obviously), doesnt really need to offer a bargain - particularly when they have a new product, that nobody has had before... means there must be a problem. Perhaps they are getting the people they want, but they're treating the park as most people predicted - as a half day park, and by 3pm on most days, they're struggling to get the people in the park - paying staff, utilities and so on, and not having people there to be served, as well as people buying food and drink, means those hours are not profitable. i'd say the people in the morning make the money for them, but they're trying to get people in the park to buy food and drink and concessions and so on, as well as keep their staff occupied.
  11. Seems to me like WWW is not doing as well as they hoped, and they're trying to do anything to get people in the water.... could this have been a bad move for DW???
  12. Hate to be pedantic here, but just a fact check: Southern Star and Endemol are actually two separate entities. Endemol originally developed BB overseas. In Australia, shows such as this, and MANY MANY others are developed by Southern Star and Endemol, hence the splash at the end of the show, saying Southern Star Endemol. Southern Star Sydney shares the offices with Network 10 National (not sydney), along with Southern Cross Syndication, and Radio 2UE. Southern Cross Syndication handles the ex-SKY Radio Network, the 2UE Radio network (the John Laws Syndicate etc). I can't say which way around the ownership goes, but needless to say, that Network 10, Southern Star, Endemol, 2UE and the Southern Cross Radio Network are all working VERY closely. I don't know the politics, but Network 10 has dibs on any Endemol concept that comes down under. So long as BB is successful, Network 10 will hold on to it... and when BB is no longer successful, Network 10 will ditch BB, and when they do, nobody else will buy it from endemol, because - it is NO LONGER SUCCESSFUL!
  13. awesome wazza, can't wait to see the full clip!
  14. *Catch the weird double-take* For a minute there I didnt check the dates. I am thinking this was a new thread and thinking - jeez, and all this time I could have sworn it was Ian who worked there getting us all the inside....
  15. In my personal experience, most of the costumed performers, unless the suits were tediously heavy and bulky, were usually worn by women. They seem to have more of an "affectionate" touch with the kids. Shrek at wonderland for example - most of the time a guy would be in Shrek, but princess, farquard, and donkey were all gals...
  16. Not to mention that the terms and conditions stress to you if you have any back or neck complaints you should not ride, and all riders ride at their own risk... Now negligence aside, because that is definitely something that you could sue over, if it is ride at your own risk, and WBMW can show Hundreds of riders per day without neck injuries serious enough to sue over, and then one person DOES sue, then obviously they must have had a weakened spinal cord as a result of a pre-existing condition, whether or not they knew about it, and as it was pre-existing, it was their own decision to ride, despite the warnings.
  17. firstly, why do people keep editing my posts. If you are going to edit my post, leave a note as to why you are doing it. i am fed up of all of these new mods on this site who edit for apparently no reason. i have had numerous posts in the past month or two edited, apparently, for no reason, and when I pm the mods, i receive ABSOLUTELY no response. Second of all, Adam, while I have nothing but the greatest respect for you, if you have not spoken to pro slide or jamberoo yourself, how can you state for 100% certainty? - as far as asian tourists understanding the concept, asia has had this style of "transportainment" for a while now. Now, as the general concept of the river "flows" around the forums, depending on the raft style, there will be a little separation between them, but they will share the same water... there may just be a net between the two.
  18. I'll try and answer as many questions as I can. As far as the 10 year planning, it has been said by management that should pro-slide come out with better technology between now and when they are ready for their next attraction, then an upgrade would be considered. You need to realise here that EVERY SINGLE ONE of these slides will be tailored to fit the terrain around it. Jamberoo is built on the side of a hill, and all of the slides work their way down it, starting with dark mammoth. As far as dark mammoth goes, there WILL be a second one in the future. if you draw a line down the plans for dark mammoth (which is exactly where the raft lift will go) you will notice that the mammoth never crosses that line - this is so that another can be added to the other side of the raft lift in the future - a bit like how WnW do their mammoth tower. As far as where is the lazy river? you are looking right at it on that plan. the slides all pour into a wiggly blue line, that is a complete circle - this is your lazy river.... you can pretty much splashdown off a tornado, or a bowl, remain on your raft and float lazily around the river. Billabong Beach is not going to be a pro slide attraction (as far as i know) and as this set of plans only details the proslide 10 year plan, that would notably be left off. For those trying to get their bearings on the park, the blue circle indicating the lazy river will be in the place that the go kart track currently sits. I believe the new Billabong Beach will be inside this lazy river. Differently to the slides up on the gold coast and elsewhere, jamberoo have made some custom modifications to their slides, which will improve capacity, improve the safety, and in some cases the design of the ride. I can tell you having experienced these particular rides both with and without these modifications, that they will be well worth it, and make for a much more comfortable ride. The current plan as I know it to be is that the slides listed on the plans are slated to be installed at periods throughout the ten year period. If something better or more suited comes along that will fit into the park without the need for massive stilts and supports, then the park may elect to change as the technology changes. Jamberoo will continue to build its image as a place where "you control the action" so hands on attractions like slides and so on are a must. Obviously technology will improve over time, but they are all variations on the same thing - you either sit on a mat, a tube, or your butt, and slide down a wet fibreglass chute until you splash into the bottom. having a varied set of these makes the experience different, and to this end, certain slides that some people don't find too appealing here will be installed, because unlike those people here, the general public won't give a toss, so long as the slide gives them the right amount of adrenalin rush, and splashes them into a pool - preferably filled with water - at the end. I think I have answered everything here - so I will leave with the answer to the last question: The rocket does not appear on these plans. As you have no doubt noticed, the plans I have posted have a BIG AND BOLD "CONFIDENTIAL" stamp on them. I was the first member of the media permitted to get an up close and detailed shot of these plans. The rocket slide however is being more closely guarded. I have seen it, but as yet, copies may not be made of this slide because it will be the big one, it will be worth it, and jamberoo needs to protect their investment. As a little p.s. - please think of the special thing Jamberoo is trying to do here - a waterpark without stilts, poles or pylons. I have yet to go to a waterpark in australia that does not have stilts and pylons everywhere, not to mention that jamberoo is not, and will not be a concrete jungle like other waterparks I know. plenty of grass, plenty of space to relax in the shade and cool off, and before you leave, what other waterpark offers you the chance to blow dry before leaving, by travelling 10 metres in the air for 5 minutes, at 10km/h, followed by travelling 5 centimetres off the ground for 40 seconds at 60km/h+???
  19. Mag-Lev, or magnetic levitation is a friction free method of moving an object. Trains in Japan utilise Mag-Lev for cross city transportation, and this is a very slow method of transport. it moves very slowly, because: a) the trains do not need to move fast, they are intended to bypass gridlocked city streets, and even at their snails pace, the "green light" highway that they have in the sky is still faster than crossing the city by car. mag-lev doesn't really have adjustable speed. they can go really slow, which is cost efficient, and safe, not to mention easier on the electricity. High Speed mag-lev is really only efficient for high speed over short distances. for transportation like a train, the high speeds would draw a lot of power, and the mechanisms would heat up quite fast, and require incredible cooling. I have personally spoken to management at the park, and they confirm the terminology of Magnetic Levitation is correct for describing the pro slide technology. Since this is not a rollercoaster, pro-slide may refer to their use of LIM technology as Magnetic Levitation, since the technologies are so very similar. I believe the development of LIM and LSM was based from the idea of Magnetic Levitation. I will speculate either way. yes, WWW use LIM technology, but this doesnt mean that pro slide have not got a mag lev style technology up their sleeve which will be installed in to Jamberoo. we will have to wait until it is installed before we know for sure now.... won't we.... on the subject of tornado alley, it will be a short series of them bundled closely together, offering similar but different experiences.
  20. anyone remember the day that a certain undersized female security guard was driving the fire truck to take the billy tea staff out to the shearing shed for the mornings billy tea, when she rolled it? Joanne from HR "running" to her golden camry, and every man and his dog who had a car on the backstage side of post racing out to the carpark, while those with radios who stayed behind listening to the frantic calls going out on the air... I did a helitour once myself while working in Memories... they wanted promo shots for their brochures... and picked a day that was stormy and overcast... but since the pilot had already removed the window from the back seat, it had to be done then and there...
  21. Ahhhhhh Zane, As usual, you bring nothing but perfect grammar, accurate spelling, and certain facts. I'm sure you will next be telling us about how the scooby doo spooky coaster trains have motors inside them in case of an emergency, and the red led's are actually fire sensors.... or something...
  22. while I would hate to see Tom Sawyer leave disney, it is a fact that all organisations need to move with the times. Consider if movie world still had the young einstein gravity homestead? or the gremlins ride? most kids today would not know what we are talking about.... hence new additions like scooby doo, harry potter, the matrix, shrek and so on. Honestly, the island needs to be heritage listed as a tribute to walt himself, but they do need to move with it, and the island is valuable real estate in the park that you can't take up with something just gathering dust. I am of mixed opinion, however anyone who has seen the documentary done by discovery channel on the creation of Expedition Everest will know that the standards of theming for any new walk through attraction will be higher than ever before.
  23. I find that hard to believe.... A second train can enter the station and stage itself before the first train has departed the top of the lift hill. If there is nobody getting off or on, all they need do is release the harnesses electronically, then immediately re-lock them (some coasters will not allow a train to cycle a second time until the harnesses have unlocked and relocked) and then two ops just run down the train pulling on the harnesses. I guarantee they can have that done before the first train hits the bottom helix.
  24. seems weird that this appears to be coming from a 19 year old... but besides that fact, Joz, can you possibly shut this one down too? While Im sure she has the best of intentions, WG87 seems to be doing nothing but making inflammatory comments to reasonable statements. Wonderland Girl - just a pointer, but if you seem to be making so many mistakes because you are tired etc, might I suggest not posting at 2am when the human body is at it's lowest ebb. Might I suggest a post time more suitable - such as between sunrise and sunset?
  25. unless this is a repeated occurrence over multiple days, is it not possible that after both trains were set for the day that something occurred forcing them to remove it from circulation, however they were unable to transfer it back off the track - so for example if the restraints would not lock in? Maintenance is unavailable to fix the restraints, so they just cycle the train with nobody on it. the cycle time would barely be impacted, because they would still be able to despatch the blue train in time to bring the red train in from the brakes run with barely a pause.
