  1. Gazza, most residences built after 1975 have separate waste water services, depending on the type of water going into it. The Sewer is usually only fed with stuff that needs to go through a treatment plant - toilets and the like. Grey Water, from sinks, washing machines, pools, showers etc is usually fed into the stormwater services, and other piping setups, that do not require SEWERAGE TREATMENT PLANT ATTENTION

thats so fricken stupid.... i love it!
  3. LMFAO! I only just came across this quote bus. it does seem like we're agreeing more and more these days. nothing wrong with that... just means that we're both right! (and god you're a sarcastic bastard)
  4. No, Bus... im talking about Jacqueline, the blonde. ill find photos for ya soon as i can... This question has been asked before. Typically any ride that isn't a coaster (which has trains) have "pod" cars for passengers to travel in, and are called all sorts of things - cabins, gondolas, cars (or carriages). and are all just names of things people "travel" in. I dont see specifically why they can be called cabins, but what else you gunna call it? I know that the controls for probe name each one "cabin 1, cabin 2" etc. so assumably this one came from Intamin... but many other manufacturers use the term as well. *waits for bus to deliver a deeper insight*
  5. Although I stongly encourage researching the other threads in the forum before posing a new question, ill answer this one. This list is as far as I am aware - Space Probe, Zodiac, Bounty's Revenge, Bush Beast, and Beastie, as well as most of the Beach are currently SBNO. for the most part, it would not take much to get these running again if need be, that said, because of the nature of the attractions, Beast and Beastie would require a lot more work to do so. Snowy River Rampage is currently partially dismantled. the pump house and equipment etc has been demolished, i believe the loading dock is close to that as well. the troughs themselves are a bit different, and are still in workable order, as the troughs were resealed after closure (what for i don't know.) I am under the impression that Ampol's Antique Autos (the great race) has been sold, but whether or not it has been removed yet i am not sure of. Taz, Endeavour, Dragons Flight, Demon, Clippers, Planes, Carousel, Dinos Derby (baby bumpers), and any of the other kiddie rides i have neglected to mention have all been removed from their sites, and are either in storage at the park, shipped to sunway lagoon, sold to other amusement organisations, or scrapped. Defunct Rides from earlier in the park life, including the paddleboats and silly stix currently reside in one of wonderland's graveyards, along with Skyrider's gondolas. I know that individual paddle boats have been sold to private buyers by the park. I am not sure what ever happened to Flintstone's splashdown. it was removed circa 2001, but whether it was sold off or scrapped im not sure. If i've missed any, sorry, but thats pretty much how it stands around mid-december. The only one i've missed as far as i can see is Dodgems, and I am unaware of the situation with them.
  6. oh no, don't get me wrong, i wet myself laughing over these guys. some of them were arrogant pricks while others were a bit better. the "backup" action man, that is to say not the guy featured in most of the paraphernalia and advertising was brilliant. yes it was bad acting, but you can't expect the guys to take full force kicks and punches. its the same in the movies, its just not as visible because they use clever camera angles. But mate, after that show, if you could see the amount of sweat that poured off this guy, you would still not believe it. AM's costume as times used to be soaked through, and im talking like - the purple went about 5 shades darker, all over. after the show finished, he would do nothing more than wipe his face with a towel, and then come back out and spend the next 30 minutes doing pictures. this costume was not the most breathable thing in the world... quite the opposite. he stood out there performing, for more than an hour in the sun, the heat, and absolutely no wind, wearing a costume padded with foam rubber, and covering himself from ankle to neck to wrist. THAT is what i mean about respect. I really feel sorry for fidget though. the main fidget (drop dead gorgeous, OMG!) was pretty short, but her costume was worse than AM's. while AM had strategic padding in various locations, Fidget's whole arms and whole legs were covered in padding that made them look like bell-bottoms in 3d. pity that girl.... (but sooooooo gorgeous. ill find a pick and post it when i can...)
  7. The movie magic special effects show is very similar to other effects shows in other movie-theme-parks. In WBMW, guests would queue up outside the sound stage, and volunteers picked from the audience to play roles in the following scenes. In Scene 1, We are given demonstrations of Map-Painting and Blue Screen techniques. Sly Stallone introduces the segment that follows with one volunteer being superman, and flying over the goldcoast, while another guest walks along a "building ledge" a foot or so off the ground, while cameras "paint" the image onto a skyscraper that is many stories tall. In Scene 2, (not sure if im missing one) we enter the foley effects stage. Mel Gibson introduces us to one of his movies - Lethal Weapon 2 (very dated. they needed a new one anyone). We are shown a scene from Lethal Weapon where Danny Glover, Mel Gibson and Joe Pesci first meet in the hotel room, starting from Mel and Danny knocking on the door, all the way through to three of them falling out the window and into the pool. There are three volunteers in this segment, who are each given a number of sound effects to produce to make this scene work, from footsteps, to gunshots, glass breaking, water splashing... all sorts of things. This part of the sound stage is hilarious, as usually the volunteers miss their queues, or run late, and after we have been through a recording session, we get to watch the final playback, with nothing but sound effects. hearing every effect muddled up is quite funny. In Scene 3, we are taken onto a set of Memphis Belle. there are many different versions of the bomber in this set, from miniature, to toy and model size, all the way up to a 100% correct sizing of the plane. Our last volunteer will be the pilot of the memphis belle, with a MW cast member as their copilot. Our guide runs through various different models on display, demonstrating each in turn, before explaining how the effects we have seen previously combine with different camera techniques to provide the final picture. the tour ends with our last volunteer making the final flight of Memphis Belle, while all the other models, as well as painted backdrops, and other effects combine to create the realism of actual flight. I hope this answers your question... and now - back onto Superman. It is strange that MW would pick that site for a new thrill ride, as it would appear to be boxed in by sound stages, lethal weapon and batman. where can it go but up? it can't go too near the sound stages for fear of ruining the sound capture they would do there... Unless of course this is going to be another dark ride, which would make theming very easy, but the coaster a little less spectacular. Perhaps movie world is putting superman elsewhere, but movie magic is getting a complete overhaul into something new, or else a different attraction will go in here, ALONG WITH superman going elsewhere...? just thoughts... who knows... lets see where this thread goes.... (ha, that rhymed...)
  8. Nothing like a chunder on a gravitron. because it doesnt matter where you're standing, if you're in sight of the gravitron just after they've cleaned it out, you're gunna get spewed on - cause once they hose the ride out, they spin dry it! lol.
  9. Im curious as to how X-Flight works its station. I have seen pictures, but only very far away, and it appears it has two loading bays. I have seen storm runner, http://www.rcdb.com/ig2498.htm?picture=10 and its split track, that moves across a switch to guide each train onto the main track, But I am told X-Flight does this differently? How is it accomplished, and does anyone have any close up pictures of this action in detail?
  10. the ski ramp is there - thats for war on water and h2overload. that old wharf stage should have been gone long before the ramp came in... but ok...
  11. Wazza, these photos are POST-H2Overload. This is when they installed the scaffolding for the saturday session stage, and it would have been necessary to drop the water to do so in this case, as they needed to firmly anchor the scaff poles to the bottom, and to do that they needed to see. removing the ship and installing the ski ramp didn't require the water to be dropped much if at all, as the pylons holding that platform up (see your own pics) were in there from the word go, all they had to do was build (above the water) on top of it.
  12. When Wonderland signed Marvel, they elected to switch to the spidermanhulk characters etc, and they canned Action Man. Originally the idea was to revamp action arena into something resembling a Marvel set, and have a new stunt show (as mentioned on this site somewhere previously by Wonderbuzz) featuring the marvel characters. But, as usual, crappy old wonderland did a half-cankered job of it. Because they didnt want to spend the money to revamp the arena, the characters did a bit of a fake-kick monkey magic style show outside Action Arena. they painted the wall of the arena as a marvel "skyscraper" style facade (i think) and the characters did it on the grass outside the arena, a mere 2 metres from the pathway where the guests were to stand (no seating) and directly in front of (from that side) Dragons Flight. I dont believe the arena itself was used for anything post-action man, although i could be wrong, and the last time i saw it, which was post-closure, all of the tin walls were gone, as was the theming and the metal seating cut off at floor level. the only thing of action arena that still stood was the facade building at the front of the arena enclave. I remember waiting in the wings of Action Arena for the show to finish. for anyone who has seen the show, they know that at the end, Doctor X jumps into a ventilation duct on top of the facade, where action man then throws a grenade into the duct, and a huge burst of fire pours out the duct as action man double pumps his arm (like a "you're out" signal in baseball) I was in the wings, and the guy playing Doctor X comes flying down this tube (about 1.5 metres long including the bend), crashes into a foam mattress, rolls off it onto another platform, and then swings himself across a walkway to the floor, before reaching over and pushing a big red "emergency stop" style button. (presumably to tell the stage manager at control that he was clear of the tube) While this was all happening, a little rubber bean bag kind of thing comes falling down the tube as well, and a few seconds later (after action man has thrown the "grenade" and run to his position for the "double pump") the room in the wings got searingly, and i mean FEROCIOUSLY hot, from a jet of fuel pouring out of the tube simulating the "Grenade" explosion. it was so simple some of the stuff they did, but I had nothing but respect for those guys. W**kers and posers though they were, they were good at what they did.
  13. that site you listed joz is pretty cool. its interesting to see the generations of the park come through. questions- did dreamworld ever have a wooden coaster? a single loop coaster? and what and where on earth was avalanche mountain? as far as the logic, the seller says
  14. i can't imagine them draining the lake to do that though.... it would have been just as easy to crane it out. the pylons would have still been in place, and they could simply have put the ski jumps on the existing pylons....
  15. owww man I would have liked to see all that stuff come out of the lake! there'd be Drivers Licenses in there from like 85.... imagine all that crap... be interesting to see it...
  16. curious - i wonder how and where this guy got it?
  17. even without the OTSR, i dont think with a seat belt and a lap bar that it would have caused too much of an issue. i know the otsr's are still vital, but didnt Schwartzkoff persuade american safety officials that his lap bars were sufficient on his loopers by holding them upside down for more than a minute with nothing but a lap bar?
  18. Hasn't lethal just finished a maintenance run?
  19. Its not pertinent to the discussion, but I just want to point out that what i said was intended to be ONE swap... eg, the rotation was only performed ONCE - eg : a single ride ROTATION meaning the ops generally had TWO rides in one day.
  20. Sorry Rappa, but bus is right on this one. Scandal'us took off from the Helitours pad in goldrush after park closure, they circled out and around to come in on the car-park helipad at an angle that gave the cameras a good shot. The show was held in Action Arena, in the shadow of Demon, and the stage was actually built at the level of the bottom row of seating in the ampitheatre. the stunt floor was about a metre or so below the stage, which hid some of the more ghastly props of the Action Man Set. if you go and watch this concert, you will see the X industries logo, and the building facade of lime green cracked concrete and brick. very little was done to action arena to make way for this performance, and Action Man was back and performing either the next day, or the day after that. ok, time for another tidbit hmmmm *thinks hard* Over the years, Wonderland has had 5 helipads. One in the staff area car park near security post, one in hanna barbera land, one in goldrush, one in the upper car park and one where Action Arena stood. Action Arena used to be a basketball court, where the sydney kings did demonstration games and the like, however, prior to its construction, it was a helipad. When the park opened, most of the bush and trees were newly planted, and were only saplings. it was possible to see bounty from beastie, and it was possible to see the rainbow from the bush beast. over the years, the trees, predominantly from the goldrush entrance to the bush beast grew so tall, it hid all but the tallest of the rides from view. as IVBotany Bay were predominantly a concrete jungle, there were very few trees to grow, however the strip up behind dodgems also created a natural barrier between botany bay and HBL.
  21. Wonderland would never have made it a legal dispute. Doing that would turn it into a full scale safety investigation of the park, the operations and maintenance staff and management, and the rides themselves. they knew full well that they were not providing a program, roster or system that adequately covered the safety requirements necessary. they would have opened up a much deeper can of worms, which ultimately could have closed the park even earlier than they did. Can you imagine the safety inspectors coming across coathanger wire on demon? what about a poorly patched up job on one of space probes controllers? cable ties holding parts to a ride that spins round and round or goes very fast? insufficient rest time for operators insufficient maintenance all sorts of badly worked fixes over the years that would be picked up in a heart beat. Wonderland would never risk that.
  22. seems the mulcher has been through this thread.......?
  23. bus, i know its a situation where nobody wants to admit its true, but sometimes operators make mistakes. and the sad truth is that the safety of the guests at wonderland was on a backseat to the hip pockets of the operations managers, who would not fork out the extra money to staff the attractions the way they are supposed to. A single ride rotation per day was not enough. out of everything that happened, this was thef irst mistake he made, and he was at the park longer than i was, and one of the first cast members I met in my quest to secure employment there. Everyone makes mistakes. but yes, he should have checked those harnesses. fatigue and boredom can simply get to a point where you would just assume the guests would have worked out the OTSR's on Bounty need to go over your head. im not condoning what he did. its downright scary to think of it happening... but as soon as he found out.. what did he do? he phoned it in, shut down the ride, and gave full detail on what he had done. he lost his job over it... but he was honest. Putting aside what happened on bounty that day, i won't stand to hear a bad word said about him.
  24. an interesting thread showed up in my searches in regards to this Welding Company in NSW. the same rumor has been thrown up by the same user, two years running now - Original Thread Here: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/sh...hread.php?t=550
  25. Dan, you talkin bout me or Melanie? I dont recall any of the guys who started with me being stoners...
