Seems to me like WWW is not doing as well as they hoped, and they're trying to do anything to get people in the water.... could this have been a bad move for DW???

Hate to be pedantic here, but just a fact check: Southern Star and Endemol are actually two separate entities. Endemol originally developed BB overseas. In Australia, shows such as this, and MANY MANY others are developed by Southern Star and Endemol, hence the splash at the end of the show, saying Southern Star Endemol. Southern Star Sydney shares the offices with Network 10 National (not sydney), along with Southern Cross Syndication, and Radio 2UE. Southern Cross Syndication handles the ex-SKY Radio Network, the 2UE Radio network (the John Laws Syndicate etc). I can't say which way around the ownership goes, but needless to say, that Network 10, Southern Star, Endemol, 2UE and the Southern Cross Radio Network are all working VERY closely. I don't know the politics, but Network 10 has dibs on any Endemol concept that comes down under. So long as BB is successful, Network 10 will hold on to it... and when BB is no longer successful, Network 10 will ditch BB, and when they do, nobody else will buy it from endemol, because - it is NO LONGER SUCCESSFUL!

'Tigger' hits kid at Disneyland
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Hugh_gazzz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
In my personal experience, most of the costumed performers, unless the suits were tediously heavy and bulky, were usually worn by women. They seem to have more of an "affectionate" touch with the kids. Shrek at wonderland for example - most of the time a guy would be in Shrek, but princess, farquard, and donkey were all gals... -
Not to mention that the terms and conditions stress to you if you have any back or neck complaints you should not ride, and all riders ride at their own risk... Now negligence aside, because that is definitely something that you could sue over, if it is ride at your own risk, and WBMW can show Hundreds of riders per day without neck injuries serious enough to sue over, and then one person DOES sue, then obviously they must have had a weakened spinal cord as a result of a pre-existing condition, whether or not they knew about it, and as it was pre-existing, it was their own decision to ride, despite the warnings.

Article: Jamberoo unveils $20 million investment plan
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
firstly, why do people keep editing my posts. If you are going to edit my post, leave a note as to why you are doing it. i am fed up of all of these new mods on this site who edit for apparently no reason. i have had numerous posts in the past month or two edited, apparently, for no reason, and when I pm the mods, i receive ABSOLUTELY no response. Second of all, Adam, while I have nothing but the greatest respect for you, if you have not spoken to pro slide or jamberoo yourself, how can you state for 100% certainty? - as far as asian tourists understanding the concept, asia has had this style of "transportainment" for a while now. Now, as the general concept of the river "flows" around the forums, depending on the raft style, there will be a little separation between them, but they will share the same water... there may just be a net between the two. -

I'll try and answer as many questions as I can. As far as the 10 year planning, it has been said by management that should pro-slide come out with better technology between now and when they are ready for their next attraction, then an upgrade would be considered. You need to realise here that EVERY SINGLE ONE of these slides will be tailored to fit the terrain around it. Jamberoo is built on the side of a hill, and all of the slides work their way down it, starting with dark mammoth. As far as dark mammoth goes, there WILL be a second one in the future. if you draw a line down the plans for dark mammoth (which is exactly where the raft lift will go) you will notice that the mammoth never crosses that line - this is so that another can be added to the other side of the raft lift in the future - a bit like how WnW do their mammoth tower. As far as where is the lazy river? you are looking right at it on that plan. the slides all pour into a wiggly blue line, that is a complete circle - this is your lazy river.... you can pretty much splashdown off a tornado, or a bowl, remain on your raft and float lazily around the river. Billabong Beach is not going to be a pro slide attraction (as far as i know) and as this set of plans only details the proslide 10 year plan, that would notably be left off. For those trying to get their bearings on the park, the blue circle indicating the lazy river will be in the place that the go kart track currently sits. I believe the new Billabong Beach will be inside this lazy river. Differently to the slides up on the gold coast and elsewhere, jamberoo have made some custom modifications to their slides, which will improve capacity, improve the safety, and in some cases the design of the ride. I can tell you having experienced these particular rides both with and without these modifications, that they will be well worth it, and make for a much more comfortable ride. The current plan as I know it to be is that the slides listed on the plans are slated to be installed at periods throughout the ten year period. If something better or more suited comes along that will fit into the park without the need for massive stilts and supports, then the park may elect to change as the technology changes. Jamberoo will continue to build its image as a place where "you control the action" so hands on attractions like slides and so on are a must. Obviously technology will improve over time, but they are all variations on the same thing - you either sit on a mat, a tube, or your butt, and slide down a wet fibreglass chute until you splash into the bottom. having a varied set of these makes the experience different, and to this end, certain slides that some people don't find too appealing here will be installed, because unlike those people here, the general public won't give a toss, so long as the slide gives them the right amount of adrenalin rush, and splashes them into a pool - preferably filled with water - at the end. I think I have answered everything here - so I will leave with the answer to the last question: The rocket does not appear on these plans. As you have no doubt noticed, the plans I have posted have a BIG AND BOLD "CONFIDENTIAL" stamp on them. I was the first member of the media permitted to get an up close and detailed shot of these plans. The rocket slide however is being more closely guarded. I have seen it, but as yet, copies may not be made of this slide because it will be the big one, it will be worth it, and jamberoo needs to protect their investment. As a little p.s. - please think of the special thing Jamberoo is trying to do here - a waterpark without stilts, poles or pylons. I have yet to go to a waterpark in australia that does not have stilts and pylons everywhere, not to mention that jamberoo is not, and will not be a concrete jungle like other waterparks I know. plenty of grass, plenty of space to relax in the shade and cool off, and before you leave, what other waterpark offers you the chance to blow dry before leaving, by travelling 10 metres in the air for 5 minutes, at 10km/h, followed by travelling 5 centimetres off the ground for 40 seconds at 60km/h+??? -

Mag-Lev, or magnetic levitation is a friction free method of moving an object. Trains in Japan utilise Mag-Lev for cross city transportation, and this is a very slow method of transport. it moves very slowly, because: a) the trains do not need to move fast, they are intended to bypass gridlocked city streets, and even at their snails pace, the "green light" highway that they have in the sky is still faster than crossing the city by car. mag-lev doesn't really have adjustable speed. they can go really slow, which is cost efficient, and safe, not to mention easier on the electricity. High Speed mag-lev is really only efficient for high speed over short distances. for transportation like a train, the high speeds would draw a lot of power, and the mechanisms would heat up quite fast, and require incredible cooling. I have personally spoken to management at the park, and they confirm the terminology of Magnetic Levitation is correct for describing the pro slide technology. Since this is not a rollercoaster, pro-slide may refer to their use of LIM technology as Magnetic Levitation, since the technologies are so very similar. I believe the development of LIM and LSM was based from the idea of Magnetic Levitation. I will speculate either way. yes, WWW use LIM technology, but this doesnt mean that pro slide have not got a mag lev style technology up their sleeve which will be installed in to Jamberoo. we will have to wait until it is installed before we know for sure now.... won't we.... on the subject of tornado alley, it will be a short series of them bundled closely together, offering similar but different experiences. -
WLS...Best? Fairest?.. Who remembers these Moments Awards?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to mnemo's topic in Theme Park Discussion
anyone remember the day that a certain undersized female security guard was driving the fire truck to take the billy tea staff out to the shearing shed for the mornings billy tea, when she rolled it? Joanne from HR "running" to her golden camry, and every man and his dog who had a car on the backstage side of post racing out to the carpark, while those with radios who stayed behind listening to the frantic calls going out on the air... I did a helitour once myself while working in Memories... they wanted promo shots for their brochures... and picked a day that was stormy and overcast... but since the pilot had already removed the window from the back seat, it had to be done then and there... -
Ahhhhhh Zane, As usual, you bring nothing but perfect grammar, accurate spelling, and certain facts. I'm sure you will next be telling us about how the scooby doo spooky coaster trains have motors inside them in case of an emergency, and the red led's are actually fire sensors.... or something...

Tom Sawyer Island being replaced?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to mickey_079's topic in Theme Park Discussion
while I would hate to see Tom Sawyer leave disney, it is a fact that all organisations need to move with the times. Consider if movie world still had the young einstein gravity homestead? or the gremlins ride? most kids today would not know what we are talking about.... hence new additions like scooby doo, harry potter, the matrix, shrek and so on. Honestly, the island needs to be heritage listed as a tribute to walt himself, but they do need to move with it, and the island is valuable real estate in the park that you can't take up with something just gathering dust. I am of mixed opinion, however anyone who has seen the documentary done by discovery channel on the creation of Expedition Everest will know that the standards of theming for any new walk through attraction will be higher than ever before. -
I find that hard to believe.... A second train can enter the station and stage itself before the first train has departed the top of the lift hill. If there is nobody getting off or on, all they need do is release the harnesses electronically, then immediately re-lock them (some coasters will not allow a train to cycle a second time until the harnesses have unlocked and relocked) and then two ops just run down the train pulling on the harnesses. I guarantee they can have that done before the first train hits the bottom helix.

Wonderland Employees need your support
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Scared of Jack's topic in Theme Park Discussion
seems weird that this appears to be coming from a 19 year old... but besides that fact, Joz, can you possibly shut this one down too? While Im sure she has the best of intentions, WG87 seems to be doing nothing but making inflammatory comments to reasonable statements. Wonderland Girl - just a pointer, but if you seem to be making so many mistakes because you are tired etc, might I suggest not posting at 2am when the human body is at it's lowest ebb. Might I suggest a post time more suitable - such as between sunrise and sunset? -
unless this is a repeated occurrence over multiple days, is it not possible that after both trains were set for the day that something occurred forcing them to remove it from circulation, however they were unable to transfer it back off the track - so for example if the restraints would not lock in? Maintenance is unavailable to fix the restraints, so they just cycle the train with nobody on it. the cycle time would barely be impacted, because they would still be able to despatch the blue train in time to bring the red train in from the brakes run with barely a pause.

This also occurred to me yesterday as well. I am the only enthusiast where I work, and the others tolerate my interests only because they have no choice, but one of my staff received a QLD holiday as a 21st birthday present, and their plans were to tour the parks while they were there. Me telling her about WWW was the first she had heard about it. she is going to be up there just before christmas and yet had heard nothing about the park. Had I not mentioned it to her, the first she would have heard about it would have been when she arrived at DW to do the tiger walk. She now has plans to visit WWW as well, but I think this is a very silly move by DW not to be hammering the hell out of it - the first new park on the gold coast in over a decade... Admittedly, they may be holding their advertising simply because they feel that enough word is out there that they will run at capacity for the entire christmas holiday period, but I don't think this is the case. Dreamworld had better pull out all the stops and advertise the hell out of WWW everywhere they can, and fast, because by now, most people who will go to the goldcoast have already made their plans, and trying to fit yet another park into their itinerary will put a strain both on their plans and their wallets and they may just decide not to go. Having said that - the first and only advertisement I have seen for WWW outside the internet was in my local NRMA (RACQ) office, and only because I was walking past on the way to the bank and I recognised the logo already. Imagine if I didn't know about the park already? I would have written it off to some new area of WnW... Dreamworld need to pick up their act. Sure the tourism award is one thing, but I'm sure a number of people will agree that there was no major reasoning why DW should have received that award this year, with so many other reasons out there for them to not win it...

reading the job article, I would say that it has been mis-read as per the starting date. best bet is the "Starting date" of 2nd december would be when they will commence the rehearsals and scream schools. My money is on opening day being either start of school holidays or boxing day. If it is boxing day, that gives construction for about 45 days give or take from now, which is plenty of time for it, if you consider the company that does this, does it regularly and would have most of the equipment and materials they need. So auditions around the 26th i think? leaves them a month for training. plenty of time...

Just a question to that one Adam, but you talk in bad terms of woodies "aesthetically", and then go on to say theres a reason why Disney would never get a woodie. I am presuming since they are said almost in the same breath that you are speaking of the aesthetics as being the reason why disney would not get one? In that case, how do you explain the theming to Cal Screamin? Yes its steel, but its MADE TO LOOK like a woodie....?

lol... im sorry Clint dude... I wasn't offended nor was I trying to imply anyone was. we all know exactly what you meant... I was just taking the p!ss....

Now Now Clint..... as a community leader, one would presume that you would be the best example of the community guidelines - namely swearing in any manner is not acceptable, and the use of stars, or other symbols to bypass the filter is considered just as bad.... tut tut... naughty naughty.

im sure somebody has talked about this already, but if you look at the lethal weapon station, behind the individual queue line area on the station platform itself, there are doorways leading out behind the platform. It would not be hard to construct a queue line that ran out that way back towards the superman piazza. the exit could either run the same way through the shop, or they could close the shop, and relocate over to the same side as the entrance to the piazza. it would not be hard to run a pathway under the lift hill - locate it out a few metres past the station, cover it with chain link so falling objects aren't a concern, and put the gift shop there between the lift hill and the new entrance...? It doesnt have to be permanent, because it would be a shame to relocate it all over there when all the chinatown theming and the signage on main street are all in the other direction, but they could construct the new entrance and exit without closing the ride (except maybe the two metre section under the lift hill which wouldn't take long) and then just overnight reroute all the guests heading for the old queue down to superman with signage and barricades, and tear up broadway...

im not sure this is accurate, but im sure I remember someone talking about an accident on probe involving the magnets. As far as I recall, the way it was talked about, the magnets on probe were mounted to the tower, not the gondola. Im sure Supersleuth could enlighten us.....

question about demolotion timeline
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to deano's topic in Theme Park Discussion
bussy my comments were backing you up, reinforcing if you will... -
bear in mind, done properly, it can be done. Jamberoo for instance is completely water self sufficient. More to come on that later.
-
i think the scenic railway referred to at the start was actually the scenic railway at LPM, which I believe would be classified the oldest roller coaster in australia. I can't really call SR in SW Katoomba a rollercoaster. Bussy the name of the OHS manager was Dave, he was canadian, and last I heard he was custom building a touring coach to travel around the americas in (like a 5 axle luxury bus).
