Bertie Beetle was the 'pressed peanut sweepings' of chocolates. It was invented to use the left over honeycomb byproducts from manufacturing the violet crumble. The bag has cost $2 for decades according to the wiki, and only cost $3 in 2006, and 2022. I think showbags today are a mix of "we grew out of that crap" and "it's gotten more crap". You used to get a load of food or cans of drink and stuff in most bags and a lot of that has been replaced with vouchers to redeem a discount on things. Big brands would have awesome backpacks instead of shitty plastic bags, and in many cases those bags became the replacement schoolbag when the existing one gave up the goat. I remember bags used to have a gimmick item though - there were the 'inflatable baseball bat' years, and the 'fuzzy emu marionette' and the 'magnetic spinning wheel on a giant paperclip thing' - each year there was always a unique, cool, must-have item. I went a few years ago and bought a bunch of bags from franchises my kid was into, and there were some real quality items in there, some of which are still played with today several years on - but there is also a lot of crap.

If I had to describe Rainbow to someone familiar with other carnival attractions i'd say a supersized music trip. But man, the feeling, the airtime - I don't think i've ever had a ride - in park or otherwise that is remotely similar. But its not batshit stupid intense either so still fun for those who don't seek the extremes of things like Extreme Speed Machine or XXXL. If I had to describe Zipper, i'd probably lock them in a clothes dryer without a helmet.

Press Release Ardent secures Major Amusement Park Licences
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Major amusement park licence - QLD - Australian Business Licence and Information Service Fair to say that VRTP either has this, or is in the process of getting it as its a requirement to operate a major amusement park in Queensland. -
Aviator was at Sydney Royal this year I believe. It and Slingshot belong to the Bell's family if I remember correctly. The restraint system on Aviator is a lot more comfortable than the one Sea World had a few years ago.

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I mean, I think it'd be awesome if Village had invested in a new monorail train or two to breathe new life into the attraction, but with everything already announced, i'm not sure if there's anything left in the piggy bank. Honestly though the kinetics the monorail gave to Sea World are hard to beat... I do hope this is a positive sign. -
Haha - catching up on this thread this morning I had it in my mind when Rappa asked about the braking issue to share this video, but kept reading to make sure nobody else had - you beat me to it. ETR's video on this coaster is very in depth, detailed and gives a great understanding of the entire lifespan of the ride to-date. I only watched this a day or so ago so it was fresh in my mind, and reading everyone talking about an RMC kept bringing me back to all these issues (although granted they're not converting anything here so won't be the same issues)

When the two parties involved (that is, the government, and the park) have both publicly stated the same thing on the record, it seems pretty factual to me. I acknowledge your mystery insider information for which you can't reveal. I don't want to circularise the discussion, so if I may reword my original post in line with your suggestion:
-
Allow me to translate: "I know something you dont know... I know something you dont know... I know something you dont know... " Everything publicly available agrees with my statement. You disagree with my statement, but "can't disclose" anything to support your argument. How convenient. Nobody is irreplaceable.

Yeah, ok back seat moderator - settle down and re-read the discussions pertaining to what they should do with the current funding allocation being referred to: Even if this wasn't the intention of each of those posts, its clear the inference i've made is reasonable and possible, so unreasonable to conclude 'no-one in this thread is saying that'. Dreamworld does not need to build anything that can be compared with another park 5 minutes down the road. If they build a hyper, it'll always be compared to Rivals, and if it isn't better, then its a wasted investment. If they build a woodie, then regardless of the manufacturer, it'll be constantly compared to Leviathan as the only other wooden coaster on the GC and again, it had better be better than it in every way or it will be a wasted investment. There are enough different types of coasters and different coaster manufacturers out there that they do not need to duplicate what we already have by building the same type where the main differences are the colour and layout. Remember how much the public at large thought that Sea World had rebuilt the Wipeout? ..."airtime-focused, non inverting"... See, airtime is fun, and a lot of good coasters have it, but the public at large (you know, the majority of their customers) don't really notice it particularly, so it's more an enthusiast thing - and this is the wrong market to target. Likewise - non-inverting will always be viewed as 'more tame' because "OMG IT GOES UPSIDE DOWN" = scary to non-enthusiasts. Consider it another way - Sea World hires Brogent to install a flying theatre with a more marine themed film into the Sea World Castle - good idea or is it too similar to Sky Voyager?

It is true that future lab was put 'on hold' prior to covid. That is a FACT. The project was placed on hold, and the money was also placed on hold. Covid just took the plans from 'not right now' to 'not happening in the foreseeable future' That doesn't mean that the statements made in the article are false.
-
I see no problem with Little Puff as an attraction during the day (and agree the train boiler itself is not suited for climbing at any time), but it definitely shouldn't be available for kids to play on at night as that area is quite poorly lit, and there is literally zero other active entertainment options for kids during the market (nor should there be).

Is my card still valid or do I need to buy a new one?
-
oh god I feel like i've gone back in time ten years. Both park chains blew their wad on a large scale Mack. Both park chains needed financial help to get them built Nobody is building a B&M here anytime soon Building another hyper is not a smart move - the GC needs more coaster diversity For mine, i'd love to see a flyer as Tatsu is still near the top of my list and we have nothing like it. Dreamworld can ride on ST for several years while they fill out the roster so any suggestion of a big thrill coaster is pure folly.

We all know what happens when you assume. You said 'if its profitable'. I said 'I think you'll find it won't be' and if you think i'm basing it off the publicly listed event hire price and nothing else (especially after I went into further detail about the additional costs associated with it) then you're very much mistaken - and you think my position is weak. I'm done here.
-
Oh please. See this is why I give long-winded explanations - because a reasonable statement gets rubbished unless it's exhausted to the -enth degree. I'm well aware of the associated and on-costs, and i'm sure you'd have a fair idea too, so I didn't see the need to explain in every detail beyond 'i know what the pricing is and it isn't gonna be profitable'... Ahem... Weak cheese my arse. Ride hire costs (usually only for an hour of the event) are add-ons to an already profit-making banquets \ events booking. This booking already has your park security and other support staff covered and rostered for the event. What you're suggesting doesn't keep anything else open including F&B outlets (unless you do, and there's another cost) plus you need to keep your first aid team onsite, and cleaners to maintain the facility. These sorts of costs are typically factored into an event booking, and not a "pay per ride single seat price during normal operating hours" price. Overtime... Fatigue Limits for ride operators... minimum call times if you call a new crew in to keep it going... This isn't something you can ad-hoc, I guarantee your staffing costs alone exceed $600 per hour, and if you plan it, then you might as well open the GA seats as well and charge for those outside of hours to make up the excess and then if that be the case what even are we arguing about? (...and I have seen costs for soft drink, and post-mix is the biggest profit-making product in any park hands down. Selling it at $1 would still make a profit, so even the free refill scheme is a money maker and why Village didn't do much to prevent people from abusing the refill stations for a long time.)

*Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has entered the chat* That's hardly "easily more than...." 5500 people in park "...most days " in fact it sounds entirely average.

Sea World's Leviathan + Trident Testing
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Liamengel17's topic in Theme Park Discussion
On the one hand, this sounds cool AF and can't wait to see it. On the other, the LEDs are probably too bright and will be switched off once the ride opens. Cheers for camping out and capturing this. What a way to make a Parkz Entrance! -
Each cycle from dispatch to brake zone is about 2:20. If the ops crew are absolutely on their game, that means you're making $50 every 5 minutes, or $600 an hour when you have two trains on the track. I don't have pricing on ST's per hour running cost, but having seen event pricing for ERT for Dreamworld, Sea World, Movie World and even Wonderland back in the day, I don't think you're running at a profit.

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
that assumes they're dimmable. realistically you can just reduce voltage to LEDs but if they aren't designed for that they'll just strobe and flicker.
