1) you're a damn galah 2) i never said hoover would return to number one. again its not the comparison im making. 3) got news for you mate, hoover floorcare developed the cyclonic technology long before Dyson did, but found it delivered inferior suction, and absolutely no power economy, and tended to overheat the motors if used for long periods, so they designed a bagless unit that did not rely on a cyclone. utilising a unit that had the same suction at a lower wattage was what they felt people wanted. not an overpriced unit that was a "new" technology, just because. i knew you couldn't resist. Also, I never said anything specific about Disney Attractions in my comparisons.... i said DISNEY... overall... complete. Good Point Gazza, and I Agree. I am quite happy to respect another person's culture, and if they request I do not climb on a sacred relic of their history, the same way a japanese person would request I take my shoes off upon entering their house, it is their way, and I would respect it. this sort of thing would be great, and i can forsee a $19.95 charge for the disc, i would be most happy to buy it. if they could do what was mentioned above and take ALL the rides you went on in one day and burn on to a single disc, i'd probably pay $40 or $50 for it. they do talk about "generic" footage of the ride with a forwards-facing camera, as well as ads, marketing, and other generic footage of the park itself. Universal sells a video in their parks which is predominantly the backlot tour video, and it sells well (i own two different versions over the years). There is nothing to say they can't print a still shot of you on the coaster in sheer terror on the cd case, and another personalised design on the disc itself. Parks spend thousands of dollars on on-ride photo equipment, printers as well as maintenance techs to keep them up to scratch (i recall Kodak was out at Demon Manor on an almost weekly basis to fiddle with the printers and whatnot)... The only problem i see which has arisen here that the manufacturers talk of, is some people here are saying the LIVE feed from the coaster be shown in the queue line. i don't think this is possible, as the wireless feed from the units would probably be very short range, so as to transmit a lot of data in the time it takes to load and unload the passengers. transmitting live, from a high-speed fast moving vehicle, wirelessly, over distances that vary as much as the heights do, the wireless transmission would screw up all over the place... but theres nothing to say they can't replay the version that has just been downloaded from the coasters, have it in the exit ramp as well as the queue line to encourage buyers... But I like the idea of having ONE shop, at the front of the park, and you just get a reference number, come in to the shop and get one burnt. the only hassle with that is- 1) people would forget to stop and view the video, because they are no longer caught up in the experience, and might miss it altogether (get back to the car - "oh we forgot to have a look at our video... oh well, maybe next time") 2) the amount of people who WOULD stop at that 5 minutes to five closing bell would mean they would be there for hours printing thousands of discs, rather than printing 6 or 7 every 5 minutes or so.

In the United Kingdom, they might own a Dyson, but they still hoover once a week, even if it is a Dyson machine that they use to do it, its still called HOOVERING. I wasn't talking popularity, i was talking the branding and the recognition, and as far as hoover is concerned, they are the Disney of vacuums. And as far as popularity, Dyson have nothing special over Hoover, or LG, or Electrolux, or Wertheim. they're all Vacuum Cleaner Manufacturers. If you want to talk popularity, it will be an even split for first place between Hoover and Electrolux. If you want to talk Quality, then its Wertheim, then Kirby, then Hoover, and so on. Dyson's are great machines, and the people who buy them have bought a fantastic machine... they just paid too much for it when a cheaper alternative that does the same job, OR does it better, is available in another brand. As far as your argument that they keep getting close, and its only a matter of time, take Coca Cola, and Pepsi-Co. Pepsi-Co has strived for years to make a product that equals Coke. They still haven't and probably never will. on the same tangent, take a vacuum cleaner - Many companies release new fangled technology in vacuum cleaners all the time, but for many, Hoover is still number one - in the united kingdom, they dont vacuum their carpet, they hoover it. lets keep going - Holden have the Clubsport, the Commodore Executive and the Calais. there is no dispute that they are fantastic cars, but they are not a Lamborghini or a Ferrari, a Mercedes or a BMW and they never will be. Panasonic and Sharp make great home entertainment appliances, but they will never be a Sony. To touch onto Rappa's Passion - there are many "intelligent" lighting companies out there, but nobody beats Martin. There are many soundcards out there in the world, but nothing beats Creative Labs. Funny, we see steel coasters that are 20 years old dropping like flies, yet woodies have been around for 40 and more years. Stating that a coaster is bad because its old is very stereotypical. Some people say a well constructed woodie gets better with age. The thrill of a woodie doesnt come from being turned upside down again and again, or being twisted around pulling insane lateral g's. A woodie gets its thrill from sheer size, the feeling of power and danger as the old wooden structure rattles and rolls underneath you. Any Rider of the Bush Beast in its last few years of life will have felt the structure shake while standing in the queue line. as you waited in the queue line, if you stood really still as the train approached the brake run, as the brakes gripped the train and brought it to a halt, the kinetic energy would make the entire station shift and shake. If you watched the Bush Beast from below the entrance, you would see the big fan curve shake and shimmy as the train went over it. A steel structure has no give. the rails themselves are designed not to move, and so the motion is always the same. if its bumpy, its always bumpy (except with new wheels) and if its smooth, it remains smooth, its all in the construction. A woodie can change on any given day because of the weather, the temperature or humidity. the wind, the age.... anything Most steel coasters have horsecollars. you're locked in and you're not going anywhere. airtime is reduced because you are pressed against your seat. With a woodie, with only lapbars holding you in, theres quite a few inches of movement that can allow you completely out of your seat on hillcrests, and throw you across into your partner's lap on tight turns. so yeah to sum it up, its the reckless danger that you feel in a woodie. in a steel coaster, you're locked in tighter than fort knox, it might twist and turn but you're not going anywhere...

Well, having a look at theming on attractions such as Tower of Terror, Giant Drop and the like, yes, its quite possible that Disney are the only group of people in the world with an imagination and the ability to dream. Wrong again, will power and drive is just as important as money. Actually... yes it is. As numerous EXPERTS unlike yourself have stated on this forum, it will be a long time before anything in Australia can come close to Disney Standards. Scooby is admittedly the closest yet, but is somewhere on the universal level, and thats just a single attraction, not a whole park...

Anything that falls under heritage order would need to be maintained by the governing body that granted the order, if no suitable caretakerowner were found. Therefore Blacktown Council would need to fork out to maintain the structure, if no suitable purchaser bought the ride.

Snowy would be considered a major ride, and as far as I am aware, the station house and pump house has been demolished... so that is one major ride not still standing (the troughs of course are still there.) Ruddegar, as far as I am aware, nothing has been removed since Christmas. I was on the site just prior to christmas, and the ride list is as follows: Still On Site: Bush Beast Beach Slides and Pools Snowy Troughs Bounty Jousting Ring (Circuit only) Space Probe Zodiac Beastie SkyRider Off Site: All other HBL or ex-HBL rides Demon Dragons Flight Wizards Fury (removed prior to close) Jousting Ring (dodgem cars themselves) Balloons Endeavour Taz Ampol's Antique Autos (AKA - The Great Race) was sold, however was yet to be removed at the time of my visit. Thats one thing I have always wondered about - the Movie Magic Queue Area lists the movies that have been shot on or around the studio, and it shows Fortress - I assume this is the Fortress with Christopher Lambert? What part of the movie was shot at WBMW?

To touch on what Richard has said and to answer another question as well, Other parks out there are not as good as Disney, and yet they ARE still in business - why? several reasons: 1) Disney cannot have a park in every state and territory of every country in the world. Its just not possible. Disney spends millions and millions on their parks are their rides. it would cost them a fortune to do, and the end result would be a loss in traffic to each park - because the travellers from interstate and international would just go to their own park. How many people would go to Disneyland, if we had a Disneyland in Australia? 2) Disney's culture is of "the most Wonderful Place on Earth". Its a kids fantasyland, fairy tales coming to life right in front of your eyes. Six Flags and Paramount and Universal and all the rest are there because they are delivering something that Disney doesn't deliver in its classic theme parks - whirling twirling spinning spewing duck and dive full-speed top fuelling Adrenalin Rush. Disney INVENTED the theme park. Until Disney came along, they were AMUSEMENT parks. rides with simple names, like "the big dipper" and "ferris wheel" and "giant drop". A Theme Park creates an illusion. its no longer the "giant drop" but the "Space Probe". It asks you to believe that this freefall tower, like every other freefall tower out there, is ACTUALLY an earth station transmitterreceiver for Ether Transmissions received from Deep Space. It then takes you inside, where a Seven.Net Reporter - Adam Walters reports to Seven.Net News Reader Ann Sanders that the transmission which caused the infiltration was an alien virus like organism of unknown origin... and so on and so on. Theme Parks are about taking an ordinary ride, like a boat flume, a wild mouse coaster, or freefaller, and creating a story, a look and a feel that gives a person the opportunity to suspend reality, and believe that this freefall tower is an inter-world probe. that this flume is a cruise boat on the hunt for bugs bunny, and that this wild mouse is in fact a space vehicle about to be launched from a space station and into the stars. Disney has 50 years experience over most other operators who wish to set out to copy their model. But like Richard said before - the one difference between a Warner Bros, a Universal, and a DISNEY attraction (besides money) is the Imagineers. I would like to see Warner Village build a ride, any ride (indoors) that they like, give the same ride and budget to a team of imagineers, and see the difference in the two. but thats in a dream world... oh well.

Again, something I have to disagree with. Big Brother has been out there overseas way before It came to Australia, but it still was not the first to coin the term. Your Survivors, (yes, even Survivor Australian Version) were around before big brother hit Australia. The term was coined from America, who have had Reality shows airing long before big brother was conceived.

Sorry Rabid, I have to disagree with you there. Bermuda has certainly been modelled on disney standard, but as Richard has said in the past, along with many others, Warner Village, and a lot of other well themed attractions are very good... even Universal good... But Disney is Disney and Nothing Compares. Bermuda is good, but I think through lack of maintenance, it has deteriorated. I never saw it when it opened (we came through in 1994 when it was being refurbed) but my first ride on it didnt impress me. the theming on it would probably have been an Australian first, but it still would not have come close to an Imagineer.
