  1. yes indeed. do a search on the forums for all threads including the word "sunway" in the wonderland topic... that should explain it some...
  2. HMMM.... yes this has been posted on r-c.com.au numerous times in the past. they are made by the same company. In answer to your question, as to why they stopped making them, you need to consider that this design today is over 30 years old. Just like the Model T ford is a classic car, it is replaced by more modern infrastructure. Also, saying dreamworld has a lot more money than wonderland did, remember that repairs have already been done once, so therefore, repairing a repair is going to be a lot harder. Secondly, consider the amount of land Wonderland owned when it was built (it was something initiated by the state government) - all of SEPP59 was under wonderland control. Eastern creek later took over a bit of it, but for the most part, a lot of land was at wonderland's disposal. Dreamworld do not have this much. Their parent company - macquarie leisure, is part of a larger conglomerate which have a lot of money at their disposal, but not a lot they could throw dreamworld's way. No, dreamworld will not benefit too much from Macquarie, in the sense that the park needs to be self supporting, or macquarie will cut it loose. Thirdly, Dreamworld would be more interested in another record breaking thrill ride, than to chuck in a 30 year old ride that most of australia has seen already, that would require maintenance up the yin-yang, and repairs before it could even be built, not to mention some primo land, needing to be large, and flat, with plenty of clearance around it... not to mention the troubles with the old time hydraulics, which, by now, should have siezed up nicely as well....
  3. when the faults were discovered in the mast head, they welded some very thick sheets of steel inside the masthead, that covered the faults. Since these repairs, the Zodiac has stood through high winds and heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning strikes, over 20 years on its current site. I would be surprised if it didnt have any problems.
  4. I can also assure you that the dogs were kept on leash while general staff were still in the park - eg - yourself koolkid, but once the cleaners, maintenance crews and cash clearances were out of the park, the dogs were set loose.
  5. having it up in no time is one thing, discovering a huge fault and rust point in the masthead (like they did when it was installed at WL) is another thing completely...
  6. Remembering of course that Zodiac is more than 25 years old already, and the troubles they experienced when they constructed it at Wonderland.... i wouldnt ride it again if they relocated it.
  7. It is very sad, but we have known this day would come for more than 18 months since the initial closure announcement, and I, like many ex-employees, saw this coming for a long time before that. It is not surprising that this site has more threads in Wonderland than any other, being a lot of our members are ex-wonderland employees. We might have more members in QLD, but those with REAL knowledge of the parks are more likely to contribute opinion and information, so therefore the fewer wonderland staff would post more than a general fan of parks in general. Also consider that NSW has a higher population than QLD, and while there has been lots to talk about with wonderland.. -closure -where the rides go -old reminiscence of the park -history -miscellaneous other things the QLD parks haven't given us as much to discuss have they? One new attraction per year, at the maximum, means one topic to discuss per year, per park. Wonderland had lots more to discuss, and still does, as we will have updates of what still survives in the park on a frequent basis... i still forecast the following threads: Demolition of Space Probe commenced Demolition of Bush Beast Commenced Demolition of Zodiac commenced Demolition of Beastie Commenced Trucks leaving the site with - ride parts, landscaping materials, all sorts of stuff leaving, will have a separate thread, depending on how far apart the time is between each load... I think my signature says all that needs to be said... (just with different management)
  8. from my layperson's point of view, hydraulics may be more difficult to maintain as far as wear and tear, but there have been problems with lsm and lim launches in the past. While its not very new, its still relatively new in comparison to hydraulics, and it does not require a lot of expertise to fix a broken hydraulic, in comparison to the lim or lsm units... take a look at some episodes of JUNKYARD WARS or MONSTER GARAGE on Discovery Channel to see how easy hydraulics can be.
  9. To be a wet blanket once again, I would not encourage anyone to "break into" a construction site. you'd only be inviting serious criminal charges, not to mention that the park is not what it used to be, and there is serious potential to break a leg, lets not forget the nice little puppies that would love to take a piece of you also... so... lets do it? LETS NOT.
  10. Stupid thing is, that in his reply, he did it again...... No Paul.... i dont think anyone but you does...
  11. Obstructure, My main point was that all that information, or direct links to that information have been posted NUMEROUS times already. in several "individual nice neat little packages" So since I'm so arrogant, heres another: Paul, do you even stop and think before you type something like that..? you start off by saying WE ALL KNOW (which im sure, not all of us do) only to follow it up with "for those who are un-aware..... i mean - that kind of logic could explode a pentium processor.... check your wiring boy... its loose again
  12. If i remember correctly, Richard told us a december opening date months ago. Not everyone may have known about a website called RCDB? Not everyone may have known that information? Both thoughts are laughable, being that the coaster rails are already resting on the grass outside the WBMW gates. Last christmas, maybe, but not once the track is already onsite..... but just in case you still aren't sure that EVERYBODY KNEW.... lets check out this little search? This news just in - ScreamScape reports that Disneyland will be refurbishing all of their major attractions for the upcoming 50th anniversary! PUH-LEASE
  13. Thanks Clint, nice to be noticed once in a while...
  14. *sarcasm noted.* hmmm.... www.rcdb.com ?
  15. As with my point about the laser skirmish centre. At places such as that, or such as a theme park, there is an inherent risk of injury, illness, or death. I am almost certain that most places like that do have those "we take no responsibility" clauses, however, it will not stand up in court if challenged with a reasonable bankroll. (im talking like - $10,000 for a barrister's day in court, with the potential of millions in damages). Horse riding places have those clauses, skirmish, laser skirmish, theme parks, amusement carnivals and fairs, parasailing, skydiving, hanggliding, rockclimbing, scuba diving... Sea World's Shark Bay has those indemnity forms, however, if you're swimming in the shark tank and you get bit, or stung by a ray, you could easily hit up sea world for your medical bills, and a skillful lawyer would get even more than that... Its all about a duty of care. Look at that girl who died at Sydney's Big Day Out, by being crushed against the barricade during a performance? I GUARANTEE that the tickets said "no responsibility taken" or something to that effect. I ALSO GUARANTEE that the promoters of the big day out were hit BIG TIME over that incident, for failure to provide an adequate DUTY OF CARE, by admitting too many people to the mosh pit, not allowing punters to carry their own drinks into the arena, and then overcharging way too much for bottled water. it was a combination of overcrowding and dehydration that killed the girl - two points which, as i have shown, were caused by the promoter, therefore making them liable... even if they did have the "we're not liable" signs at the gate, or on the ticket. Result? - They Settled.
  16. The point here is, what is classified as commercial purposes? I would classify COMMERCIAL as "for profit", so, so long as the site isnt charging to view the photos, i dont see a commercial gain? Some friends of mine own a laser skirmish centre. Basically, for those who have never played, its a dark room, painted black, with walls everywhere like a maze. Its an accident waiting to happen. At the entry to the maze, there is signage posted everywhere saying "you are playing at your own risk" and "staff take no responsibility for loss, injury or accident" etc... all the standard signage, like the ones you see at a regional show next to rides etc. Let me tell you something - that signage is rubbish. You dont need a loose paving tile, or a crack in the pavement to be able to sue. You can fall over from your own stupidity, and still successfully sue - all it takes it to find a reason why the park was responsible for your falling. You go on a gravitron, you come out, and through dizzyness, fall through a plate glass window - the owners of gravitron could be sued for that. To blend themeing in a ride, a low step is painted black, so is the floor, and so is the walkway. Because there isn't a different colour, you dont see the step, trip and smash your front teeth out. the ride owner can be sued for that. You are lining up for a roller coaster, and the safety barrier holding back the queue is not latched (such as at aussie world). A young child opens the gate, and wanders out onto the coaster rails, and promptly gets squished. Most would blame the parents for holding onto the child, but because the barrier was not latched..... sue away. Im sure bussy would be able to provide some more ride safety examples as well. It doesnt matter how many signs you post saying you are responsible for your safety, and they take no responsibility whatsoever, if you can find a reason why they are to blame for your own stupidity, you have an arguable case in court.
  17. awesome. good stuff. can't wait for more information...
  18. the coin pitch spruik was in reply to the spruik regarding the ride being closed. you asked if i've had to say the same thing over and over again all day - such as when a ride is closed, and you are guest relating, i was pointing out that yes - i have done that. you list the top capacity rides at the park as saying the spiel and individual guest relating, not ALL of them... But the bottom point is simple - gamesfront service food staff are 100% face to face relations. Operations are not. yes, you still do face to face stuff, but nowhere near what a games op would do.
  19. yes - but there was no evidence of demolition or anything like that, it looked like vacant land, that was used to house the equipment used to build rock n roll rebel etc. it was heavily churned up with caterpillar tracks etc criss crossing it all, but having said that, yes it is a great location for future expansion! because at the moment rock n roll rebel is in one little corner, and is all by itself. there is nothing in front of it to make it an attraction, and it didnt even appear on the map! so they need more there to attract guests, as we nearly missed the whole experience!
  20. Actually, I hate to say it but I am of the mind of Huss here. While park versions have a general inspection every day, and an annual maintenance - annually - the carney versions are constantly being pulled apart to the last nut and bolt, and put back together again. So long as the carnies follow a few simple rules - the carny versions of rides should be as safe if not safer that park versions THE RULES 1. Always replace broken, damaged or missing parts with parts supplied or authorised by the manufacturer, and nothing that is sub standard, or non-approved 2. Each nut, bolt, screw, lockpin etc should be checked by two separate people, and a checklist should be kept to ensure non are overlooked. 3. All mountings and parts etc (fibreglass moulds etc) should be checked xrayed regularly for structural integrity. 4. Safety checks should still be performed daily, as thoroughly as any park maintenance crew would do so, and should be shut down halfway through its operating day for a quick 30 minute inspection to ensure nothing is wearing down really fast, so it can be repaired, or closed, before a major accident. I dont think those 4 rules are too unreasonable to ask of the carnies, and It would lift the reputation of their industry immediately.
  21. - Bush Beast - It will never be moved, and it will never operate again without a huge cash injection. it will be heritage listed, or demolished. - Demon - Vision Land - Sky Hawk - Gold Coast, right next to fly coaster, currently SBNO - Tassy Devil - packed into a container, and stacked beside said container, its a bit up in the air, but most likely going to Sunway - Captains Cave Man - was being pulled down last december, most likely shipped to sunway - River Rapids - pump house demolished, the runs will be filled in, the tubes most likely sold off cheaply to another park that has a rapids ride - dreamworld perhaps? - Beastie - awaits the same fate as bush beast - Dragons Flight - i heard the mast had a large crack discovered in it. Whether it is being made portable, I dont know, but If not, it will most likely hit sunway as well. - Wizards Fury - scrapped. it was 30 years old when it was erected at the park in 1985, so it was well overdue. - Cable Cars( from the old Site at more park ) Still standing as far as I know, with some of the cars resting in one of the graveyards. they were aged beyond belief already, and i can't see them going anywhere else, unless Jamberoo has an interest in them? - Vintage Cars - they were actually sold, but still standing at the park in december. I believe the buyer has since acquired the ride - Dodgems - cars sold off to portable amusement company, building itself will most likely be demolished. - Speed Slide - boarded up - is it still standing??? - The beach Rides - what rides? there were the slides, one of which you have already named, and the two tube slides, - which was just tubes in a flume... - Bounty Revenge - on its way as per press release to be erected at sunway - Space Probe - SBNO - no prospects as to its future location
  22. As usual Clint, you put it into words that I simply did not think to say... but you are right. Scream - im not saying I observed the ride ops while i was working. Many a time i spent time before and after my shift, during my lunch break, and even days off walking around the park. So, in essence, observing them as much as a usual guest would. and even with the casual observation of a guest enjoying the park, i can still make the observations I have made.
  23. i am perplexed as to why an orange county sheriff officer commented on the accident, being that orange county is the home of Disneyland in Anaheim California, whereas Walt Disney World, the Magic Kingdom, is located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, several hundred miles away?
  24. no idea.... but being that the attraction that it is replacing was called Water Wars, i'd say its gunna be SOMETHING to do with water... my hunch is it will be more of a picniceating area that will be nicely landscaped... but who knows? no sign of the ghost train, but theres only two places it could be if it was still standing - and thats the current location of rock n roll rebel, or the soon to be theatre...?
  25. scary thing is, having just come back from aussie world.... that ride looked almost identical to the swings at aussie world...
