^Good point. It is pretty unfair for WWW to make that claim. However, you would have to say that in some ways the increased marketing and expansions have been in response to the opening of WWW.

New Shrek 3 Stage Show & New Western Show
Churros replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah, I was thinking that the Shrek Live thing is kind of like the Happy Feet thing they had over Christmas. -
Mick Doohan Motocoaster construction discussion

Looks interesting. I am glad to see Dreamworld putting in the effort to redevelop some of the areas. Definately looks like Booster bikes will head straight into a turn. I wonder if it will be a low-riding turn that maintains the force and speed around that bit, or move into a rise. I wonder how keeping the thing low effects the launch/short launch and safety brakes system. Very omonous signs for Eureka though. I hope they do something meaningful with it. Maybe they may redo Gold Rush country next year? Add something new or something. I donno. -
New Shrek 3 Stage Show & New Western Show
Churros replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I have to agree that Movieworld needs a few more shows. It isn't so much that I wouldn't like to see rides, but every now and then it is good to go and see a show there, and at the moment there isn't a lot to do other than Shrek 4D and Police Academy. I cannot see the harm in them leaving the rides for the moment, considering that they have installed some pretty good ones in the recent past. Just as long as they regularly create meaningful additions, and not become Dreamworld lol. -
New Shrek 3 Stage Show & New Western Show

Could the Shrek Live thing be a re-vamped street show? If this thing is expected to happen on June 3rd, they would really have to get their act together to re-fit the Matrix area, or really get the Western stage into great shape. At the most, I reckon you could probably expect a small show on the Western stage similar to the Christmas special thing they had in there. The question I have is of the longevitiy of this Shrek thing. There is no way that it will open in the Police Academy area, which means if it was to become a long term addition, it would have to find its way into the Western Stage, which it seems will be occupied by a new western show. Other than that, the only available location would be the Matrix Area, which seems to be more of an [insert current movie here] area. But again, two major Shrek showy attractions??? My personal opinion is that I think it will be great to see a new Western Show, but if it is to open on the current stage, it would mean that the 'old' western area would not be getting a face-lift, which I was kind of hoping for. But all in all, more shows means more attractions and more to do. Will these be the only things that Movieworld do this year? -
^Nah, I don't think so. Has anyone seen any activity around the area? From what I have seen it is as though the place has just been boarded up and left sitting there. All of the local parks are netorius for doing this at some point for an attraction. But this is rediculous.

Just out of curiosity... is this thing actually shut now?

^Haha! Too long in the batcave with Robin. I don't think Movieworld is letting their rides go. I've been on Scooby Doo heaps recently. There are a couple of changes, but I think the biggest problem with this is that in busier times they really pack the people on, and all you need is for someone that is too big to fit to slow down the process and the whole place gets banked up. I would honestly have to say, be thankful that it does stop you at the point, because it means the thing is working properly. Not like Eureka!

Rove Uses Qld Water Parks For Material
Churros replied to Gold Coaster's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Haha! Good on him. It is a pretty good point. The level 5 water restrictions could be a completely different discussion. As far as I know, White Water World particularly has been created with a strong water conservation focus, with an awareness of the situation in the area. -
Went to this last night. It was a pretty good night. All of the attractions except for Police Academy was running as far as I could gather. Included in that is the Matrix Exhibit. It was open. I am not sure exactly what is happening with that area, but for now the Matrix is still in its completed form. A couple of the changes to scenery, etc for last night included: The entrance had a Stargate type thing installed for the fun of it. Lots of mist and stuff. And a spaceship of some kind was crashed in the fountain. China Town was converted into a kind of scary sci fi walk. There were guys in there that kind of stood still until you walked by and grabbed ya. Kind of scary as I said, but nothing like Nightmares or anything. It had a sign saying area not suitable for kids. The "Ghost Town" as I like to call it (In front of the show stage) was converted into a sort of laser battle area. People could muck around in there for a bit if they wanted to. Scooby Doo seemed to have some different lights inside... UFO type lights that matched the lighting in the streets, etc. There was a small show running in main street during the night. There were a lot of staff dressed up in Star Wars outfits. The most interesting part of this was when three of the guys from the stunt show came out of the Daily Planet building re-enacting the scene from Episode I, where Darth Maul fights Obi and Qui-Gon. It was pretty cool to watch. They used their usual Batman enactment, but was pretty good to see it in the dark. It really fit the occasion well. They played a short audio clip from the original War of the Worlds all night, which set the mood really well. As for anything else interesting to note, there were some really strange costumes on display. People really got dressed up for the occasion, which was good to see. Overall, a pretty good night.

Millenium Force at Cedar Point is a Giga Coaster. They are basically just massive coasters that have nothing fancy, but get plenty of air time, and plenty of speed.

White Water World new 2007 Expansion
Churros replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^LOL. Yeah. I think they might just leave flowrider as it is. They could re-develop the joint entrance. But that could occur with further expansion. Just a quick question: is the Thunderbolt area where the host their concerts, etc? -
I don't think they are very safe lol. When I went on the Green Room the tube was a little deflated and my butt hit the bottom the whole way. I feel more comfy in a whirly wheel, but other than that the ride seems the same to me.
-
^Yeah, it's a good idea. If they went all out and made it a proper street, then you could see it becoming an attraction in itself even if they didn't open a ride immediately. That being said, I think a ride is needed as well, or else the area could deteriorate. I don't think a Scooby Doo re-theme is the best idea at this point in time. Maybe give it at least 5 to 10 more years. I agree with Gazza that they need to install a couple of different rides. A dark ride in the show stage would be ideal. They could easily make it something like the Looney Tunes river ride or Batman adventure that you actually spend some time in it, so it sort of counts as a ride/show in one. But new and exciting of course. I would be surprised if they removed the stage though, they still use it for a range of things. I wouldn't mind seeing it go though. But no live action shows! Can someone explain to me what type of ride the BTTF ride was, and what type of ride the new Simpsons one is they are replacing it with? As for the statement about moving away from Warner Properties. Firstly, I really enjoyed Shrek regardless, and this Simpsons area could be a very attractive area. I think I will just add that the bulk of attractions are still Warner. And in the previous two years they opened 'Superman Escape' and 'Batwing Spaceshot', based on two of WB's most well known franchises, which are due to see the release of at least three more films between them in the coming years. Hopefully, this and a new attraction in the Matrix Exhibit location could bring some people back to what I now call the ghost town. It also lends itself to expansion later on behind Scooby Doo. Hope this turns out to be true.

Sorry to bump away from the train of thought, but I thought I'd contribute. I usually wear glasses, so when I go on something like Superman I honestly cannot see anything anyway. I always thought that the blue thing was an '8' when he says "eight seconds till cave in" or whatever. The first time I actually went on the ride I could see the tremor effects, etc in the subway and all that, but when we reached the launch track, the best thing was being able to vividly hear Superman. I know this is probably a strange time to talk about catering to difference, etc but I think you get the idea. Also, a few weeks back I went on Scooby Doo and they had left a big bright light on at the bit where you do the final dip. I *really* ruined it. LOL. Still, scooby doo is one of the best coasters around in terms of theming. I hope they put some of the old effects back in.
-
Well you would have to say that due to the scenic nature of the Ocean Parade area, that the area could almost seemlessly blend. As for Flowrider, it seems out of place in Dreamworld due to the fact that people have to get changed, etc to ride it, and there is no other Waterpark inside the Dreamworld boundaries.

Wasn't that train just stolen from Southport and repainted? I can remember seeing it zoom up Smith Street on the back of a truck, and then hearing that people weren't expecting it to dissappear. Happy Feet was a pretty big movie in terms of Australian films, so it isn't fair to disregard its place in an Australian Movie Park. You never know though, how long roughly do you think it would take to refit an attraction like this? Also, has this stuff about Australian Idol been confirmed? Because anything Australian Idol related would be the most horrible idea I have ever heard of.
-
Hahahaha! Yeah, it is still going strong. Until recently, I actually didn't know this place was actually a park. I just thought the pub with the car on the roof was the attraction. It would seem odd to add a waterpark to it though.
-
LOL, I'm not that smart! But as for Wikipedia, while quite a lot of the information can be verified, just as much has to be taken with a bar of soap. I honestly think that if those things were to be substantial that there would be a few other sources suggesting this.
-
Yeah, those WB stores have all sorts of stuff, regardless of whether or not the movie has anything to do with Warner Bros. And just because the trailer was on the screen doesn't mean too much either. I have seen trailers for all sorts of movies on that screen from all over the place. That being said, when you look at Movieworld as a whole they are happier being considered a more general movie park rather than a Warner Bros specific park. You can see this in the fact that they repeatedly play music from movies such as Star Wars, and Rocky, which are not WB properties. As well as the obvious Shrek 4D Adventure. I would love to see something the Simpsons related at the park, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was limited to a parade type thing. And as long as they don't remove anything else for it.

Article: CEO says new thrill ride for 2007
Churros replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah, 85km/h is still pretty fast. Couple that with a hasty acceleration and the unique seating style and you could have a winner. And just because it isn't as fast as Superman doesn't mean a whole lot. Some of the best Intamin Accelerators around have a slower launch than Superman's. It means that more interesting track elements, etc can be employed and hopefully a different ride experience. -
It sounds like a really complicated system. I appreciate the discussion. I just assumed it was launched and then gravity brought it back. But as you say, if it doesn't launch properly it wouldn't generate enough potential energy up the tower.
-
Yeah, the magnetic brake fins, such as the ones on Supes cannot actually stop the train, they just slow it down. In response to your question then, it is more than likely quite possible to make the alteration, but remaining with the same 'pod' and track might be a little tricky due the the nature of the track, etc. As is, they have created all of their accelerator coasters with a similar track style, catch car, train and brake design which has proven reliable.
-
That is the greatest concept drawing I have ever seen! It is to scale and everything...lol! With respect to the topic, I don't think the conversion is worth the trouble. The last time they made a change at Dreamworld, it was with the breaking system, etc on Eureka, and now it is cactus. I think if the current launch process becomes ineffective or inefficient energy and cost wise, they should probably look at investing in removing the ride completely, adding a couple more carriages for Giant Drop to improve its capacity and build a proper, full curcuit accelerator coaster as a replacement for the TOT. One that is big and quick and makes the Booster Bikes look like a kid's ride!

Mick Doohan Motocoaster construction discussion

I hope this is done well in terms of visual appeal. If the vintage cars and this is to co-inhibit the area, it would be nice to see them give it a small visual revamp. And I think Chaos-Maniac just wants to see another one of your pics Gazza! I will be honest, but I don't think I was around here to see any of them yet, but I have heard good things.
