  1. I'll add my 2 cents in LOL Admittedly I haven't worked in the industry for quite some time, but it used to be a legal requirement to know how many people were in a hotel room. This is usually to do with emergency situations where they need to confirm that everyone has been safely evacuated. Hotels also use the numbers to make sure that people are only sleeping in the beds and not camping out on floors etc. For example the policy the hotel chain I worked for had was that the maximum occupancy of a room was 2 per double/queen bed, 1 per single and 1 adult/2 children per sofa bed (We didn't have rollaways). It also helps in determining that the room hasn't been booked for a party for example (Though people would always lie and say it was just them in the room).
  2. Living in Canberra we get advertisements for Jamberoo and the Gold Coast parks (When it existed also Wonderland). I have never seen an advertisement for WnW/Raging Waters since it commenced operations, it's an easy day trip from Canberra so it does make me wonder why they don't bother advertising.
  3. I tend to agree with what others are saying above, Intamin is not likely to be announcing something minor such as a MC refit, unless it is with some massive new innovation that they have come up with or if it was massively changing a la TTD. To me this reads as either a completely new flat ride not seen before or it's a new coaster, be it a record breaker or again something completely new. With regards to a new water ride, i'm sceptical of this only because Intamin lists a number of water ride models on their website, some of which haven't been built yet (that i'm aware of) like the Giga and Mega Splash models. I don't think they'd waste a press conference on announcing that someone has final bought a model they've had available. If it were to be a water ride my thoughts looking at the Intamin website would be perhaps a Slow Boat ride using the old Murrissippi river and themed around the new area, though how this is worthy of a press conference I have no idea LOL
  4. That's very cool. Looking at the map though, would I be right in thinking that none of the rides that are on that map are in the park today? I'm not super familiar with Dreamworld pre about 2010 as I only visited once before then way back in about 1992.
  5. Excusing my ignorance here but I'm assuming the sign we're talking about is the one next to the 3 white umbrellas casting a shadow? Perhaps the removal might be part of planning for things happening in that space? Maybe around DD? Make the Wild West area smaller to expand the DD area for the whatever replacement they may be planning? I have absolutely no insights, just spitballing here LOL
  6. As @aaronm stated above light rain seems to be OK, but heavy rain or lightning and they stop. I visited Happy Valley in Beijing in 2010 on a miserable day and the coaster operations were sporadic depending on how heavy the rain was. Additionally (Not sure if Happy Valley Guangzhou does the same) the coasters were on a rotating schedule, some opened with the park, others opened later in the day while the early opening ones closed.
  7. I'm no WHS expert, but surely some of those things above clearly don't meet WHS standards, especially some of the electrical things. Being a theme park with lots of families I would be deeply concerned about some of those and what would happen if small hands got hold of them. To me it looks like MW is 1 accident away from another major disaster.
  8. I haven't done the daytrip from Canberra for a while, might be worthwhile next summer to grab a ride
  9. If things are getting this bad I don't understand why the parks don't just move to seasonal operations like many overseas parks, then do all of their maintenance on rides/shops etc. during the off season.
  10. I don't think Canberra is gonna give it up that easily LOL
  11. That theming is looking pretty amazing, it's good to see our parks starting to put some more effort into this kind of thing, only time will tell though if they keep it maintained
  12. I really need to go back to IOA, last time I was there was 2006, Duelling Dragons was still duelling then (which was awesome!)
  13. It's been a while since I was at Movie World but what really annoyed me on my last visit was how militant they were on Superman. I had a tissue in my pocket and the ride loader saw it. I was told it had to go into a locker and no loose items were allowed on the ride, no problem it's just a tissue is there a bin nearby I can put it in? No, you have to exit and put it in a locker. I actually went into the shop to get change for the locker to put it in to prove a point (that's how long ago it was LOL) and the lady at the counter was laughing hysterically.
  14. Is it just me or is 43 days a long time for the Claw to be down for maintenance?
  15. This was post in the local Canberra Buy Sell group if anyone is interested
  16. I think that this is a great step forward for DW. I had a look over the Visual Story and thought it was done really well, needs a few very minor tweaks though IMO (For example it talks about the sunflower badges, but I couldn't see a picture of them), but I would assume that they will add/amend it as they receive feedback from people who use it.
  17. I do remember many years ago during the "coaster wars" between SF and CF that SF got into a lot of financial difficulties and was looking to sell off some of their parks, including SFMM. I believe that CF looked at buying SFMM, but was put off by the price (Which was around $1 billion). What CF did end up buying was SF Ohio which was rebranded as Geauga Lake, which eventually closed (Side note: I was able to visit not long before it closed, wasn't a bad little park at all, I rode my first B&M (Dominator) there). SF did eventually go bankrupt but was able to restructure and save itself. While the merger is angering a lot of people it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Sure it may give CF a monopoly in certain regions, but lots of theme parks are like that. There is still plenty of other operators, both large and small in the US market.
  18. Cedar Point has a bit of history when it comes to taking risks and pushing boundaries. They're not afraid to try something new and see if it works (or not). They were the first to break the 200, 300 and 400 foot barriers in coasters, Raptor was the first inverted coaster to introduce new elements for inverts like the Cobra Roll, longest records like Valravn and GateKeeper etc. etc. full list here Records - CP Insiders I don't see any issues with Cedar Point giving Zamperla a go at the new TTD, sure it might be a risk as they haven't built these kind of coasters before, but that doesn't mean they can't start doing it either, every company has to start somewhere. People probably thought Six Flags were mad when they engaged B&M to build the first Batman coaster or RMC when they rebuilt the New Texas Giant, but these risks both paid off in letting companies try things outside of their comfort zones and we are all the better for it.
  19. Sandusky and Cedar Point are an absolute pain to get to if you don't drive. On my first visit we caught the Greyhound bus from Cleveland, which wasn't too bad back then, not sure what it's like now. On my most recent visit I caught the Amtrak train from Cleveland, it's a leg of the New York to Chicago line which is an overnight train. I left Cleveland at around 2am and got into Sandusky at 4am, which meant I had to book my accommodation for the night before so when I got in during the wee hours I could get some sleep. Whilst it was a pain the train only cost USD$6. When you get into Sandusky the public transport is nonexistent, so if you're not on the point it can be difficult to get there. There is a local taxi company run by a group of people, which is fine if you know the mobile number to call, it's all cash and from my accommodation was about USD$10 each way to the park plus tip. It really does surprise me that Cedar Point doesn't have a shuttle bus from nearby airports like Cleveland/Toldeo/Detroit/Columbus like other big parks do.
  20. Throwing this into the discussion as well, don't forget that until 2004 Wonderland in Sydney also held the Hannah Barbera license, so this may have impacted Movie World's ability to also use the characters during this time. Since Wonderland closed however the hot ticket IP has all been around Superheroes, so it makes sense that Movie World stuck with those IPs rather than taking up the Hannah Barbera ones.
  21. Hey they live in the sky so on the land isn't too far a stretch!
  22. I think 2 seems most likely. 3 would be in the way of the new works on Scooby and WoO and 4 just seems really out of place to me, but it's certainly possible in that space.
  23. I love Jamberoo. They put a lot of effort in to make it high quality and it shows. My understanding from family living in the area the reason they use a lot of trees etc. is to somewhat obscure it from view so it doesn't impact the local view/aesthetic, which IMO as you rightly point out just makes the park look that much better.
  24. Interesting that the Gold Coaster is down for over 2 months
