  1. That's great to hear you didn't have to wait long but really no suprises there - you went on a Tuesday & well outside school Holidays (16th) The Motocoaster has missed the mark. Let's hope DW doesn't make such a mistake again!
  2. I love this topic! It comes around every so often and then just fizzles out.. Each time it seems to come back with more wind than the last and almost as quickly, it's gone again.. Really who wouldn't want a Disney Downunder?? The Mouse has enough power to drive the turnstiles in Australia better than any current Theme Park here ever could. The Park could have a unique Australiana spin to it not seen at any other - it would be an Imagineers Dream come true to design and build it. Back in the Days of Walt such a gamble might have been a consideration but I think it is something today that would be considered with ridiculous caution. As Richard mentioned there are countless sites around the world being considered for Disney Parks all the time, most of which will never see the light of day. Recently Disney mentioned they have no plans to open any more Parks and they intend to focus on the development of existing ones (Hong Kong, Califonia Adventure). They are however one of the most fickal companies out there and love to keep their newest developments sacred until the right time comes. I would not be at all suprised if Australia is being eyed as a future home for the Mouse. It could be unique and the public clearly want it here. Certainly more than India would anyway..
  3. I'm not real keen on them myself. Whilst visiting Zoo's admittedly I've made an effort to go & see them as they are rather curious animals. Unfortunately though, the fascination wears off after less than 5 minutes & I move on. In saying that, close to 5 million bucks is a pretty hefty price tag & I'm sure they will pull off a lovely display. SW already have some lovely displays and this is going to add a new dimension to it all. I like to think of it as a nice little addition that will compliment the Park but personally I won't be going out of my way to pay and go see them. I'd rather wait for them to pull their finger out and add something that's a worthy attraction and not another display.
  4. I totally disagree.. It's a great Theme, they just need to spend some money and fix it up. Gold rush is one of the few reasonably well themed adventure areas of the Park, I'd hate to see it go.. I'm sure they could get Eureka back up and running - it's just a case of cost vs return on investment
  5. Perhaps they are gearing up to add some sort of new attraction down that neck of the woods after the PA show closes for good? I'm still thinking the new Hotwheels stunt show is going to go behind Scooby. The current PA show sits in an impractical location that would be far better utilised as a future Dark ride or other indoor attraction. This way they could also continue to run Police Academy to the last of it's days and open the new show without any downtime between. Same thing happened with Dolphin Cove at SW years back..
  6. Interesting stuff. Thanks for the article Richard. I'm a little suprised to hear MW has once again fallen in the shadow of DW's attendance figures. I guess after years of barrolling out Annual passes to locals, DW may be in the winning streak (slightly) with the numbers through the gate but I very much doubt they are coming even close to MW's $-per-guest figures..
  7. QUOTE: "Police Academy is one of Movie World's only original attractions still operating. Batman Adventure is the only other original attraction still operating from the parks' opening." um sorry no Batman opened at the end of the second year!! The only other original standing attraction is the Looney Tunes River Ride! Anyway, new attractions are always welcome if you ask me! hahaha, I predicted this would happen way back at the start of the year:) I will be suprised though if the new Stunt Show opens in the same spot as it is the one things that bugs the neighbours out the back the most.. Time will tell I guess. As for SW, Hippos hey? Personally I would have preferred a new ride. LONG OVERDUE SW!! As Richard said, not EVERYTHING is mentioned in these reports
  8. hmmm.. apparently it isn't real good. -take it for what you will but I just read this somewhere else: "Batman and Robin: The Chiller wait: 0 min. row: 6th grade: 1 (out of 10 that is -10 being the highest) OWCH! now i no y people say its sooooo! painful. a word of Caution, dont ride in the middle!!!! after this i new i was in alotta pain again Then we made a Dare Devil Dive time n headed 2 ride Medusa." *** MW has never really done second hand and I can't see a reason for them to consider something like this sorry..
  9. ^Hahaha.. yeah Flowrider, that's what I meant to say!! Oops! slip of the tongue there... umm how embarrasing - Surfrider is too good to be on that list
  10. ^Indeed! 10 mil is about all DW has spent on major new attractions every three years or so. I will be quite suprised if we see something great open at DW in time for xmas 08. Mind you, they have consistantly hit below expectations in recent years so why are we so suprised now? - Surfrider. Not even worth counting - Wiggles world. Cute and great for kids. Really little kids - The Claw. Great Flat ride but not the biggest or best Giro swing around - Psyclone.. Hmm no comment Motocoaster is underwhelming because it has been promoted as a thrill ride. It's a nice little compliment to the Park and that's about it. Let's hope for something MUCH better soon!
  11. ^ Too true Gazza, I can see where Churros was coming from too with throwing in a bit of a laugh! Personally I've ridden quite a few woodies overseas and they are just another Coaster to me. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a good one in Australia eventually but I don't think it's the right ride next for MW - The general consensus has convinced me - I'm really loving the Simpsons land ideas with interactive displays and an indoor/outdoor rapids ride
  12. ^ Hey that's pretty cool.. I totally agree a whole new 'land' is suited to that area of the Park you have outlined but that's a fair chunk of real estate - u would wanna see at least two new ides perhaps one "E" ticket style major attraction and one more minor flat ride? Everyone seems to be pretty keen on the Simpsons idea and why not? It has been a phenomenom for decades and will probably continue to do so for many more years to come so I guess it's a pretty safe investment that if done right would not become dated too quickly. The transition of Theme's would work quite nicely too and it would certainly suit the overall appeal of the Park. I do like the idea of a Rapids ride but I'm still with Richard on this one - the Universal Simpsons ride is going to be awesome, cutting edge and a real winner for their Park's. Fair enough, the Batride simulator may be getting dated and that area could be better suited for a change? MW have monitored the success of Universal's decisions & reacted similarily in the past so why stop now? Some examples: - Universal built Back to the Future, MW brings Australia's 1st high tech Simulator experience (Batman) - Universal built Jurassic Park, MW built WWF - Universal opens Shrek 3D, MW did the same - Universal opens the Simpson's Ride and MW...? What's good for the Goose..
  13. ^ Batman has 6 Motion Bases - not 4!
  14. ^NO WAY! The Batman Adventure is an awesome ride and one of MW's biggest budget productions. Personally though I would like to see them somehow bring back the first batman ride - that one is much better than the second one! Or run them both, somehow alternating the two presentations throughout the day??? Or better still, upgrade the Batride to make it more current to reflect the new Batman film(s)
  15. ^ Or what about just the Simpsons ride planned for Universal? It could go perfectly in the old Maverick Space + I think MW could easily clone it from Universal for under the 20 mil mark - they have been very industrious about building big scale attractions at a relative low cost in the past
  16. Interesting, when I was working at MW, the only thing the neighbours ever really use to complain about was the noise from the Police Academy show - and I was there well after WWF opened and we didn't have many issues then? I'm hopeing for an indoor family ride to take the place of the old western show stage. Perhaps a Dark ride? Most of all I would love to see them open the planned Simpson's ride for Universal! Universal have already established the technology and done the footage etc, I think WVTP's could aquire the rights and material for a fraction of the original set up cost - the same way as they did with Shrek
  17. Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts, ideas, facts or theories on the Park's next Major Attraction? MW have put their Midway parlour into a nice cosy air conditioned space now and have left the old west area by the show stage completely vacant. Is it just me or is this area screaming out for attention? I heard a while back that Springfeld & the Simpsons were on the cards for moving into the space. Personally I think this is a magnificent idea and if done right would be a perfect addition to the only really sad corner of this great Park. Or maybe something better is on the cards perhaps??
  18. Yeah think of it as jumping into a cold swimming pool. Once you get in and move around, you get used to it. But the more you hesitate, the worse the notion of getting in becomes!! Same with Superman, try not to just stand there watching it going around and doubting whether you should ride! Best way - go into the Park and just get straight on board!! You'll be amazed out how much you will love it. It's safe, smooth and bucket loads of fun. Good luck and be sure to write back your thoughts on the ride tomorrow:)
  19. ^^ A success or great ride yeah, I think that's exactly what GoGoBoy is saying. I haven't had the pleasure of riding either new Coaster but I have seen enough footage and heard enough testimonials to form the opinion that Surfrider is wicked fun and Motocoaster is well, just fun
  20. ^ Showing my age here but I remember riding Eureka for the 1st time not long after it first opened. Arguably, Gold Rush Country was Dreamworld's most curious and anticipated new area ever built. The Mine Ride's 'Carts' originally sat just two people with one in front of the other. I remember It scared the absolute sh*t out of my Mum and for good reason too! The ride was at it's wildest back then and made far more dips and winding turns in and out of the mountain than last time it was ridden. The Cart's guide wheels held losely beneath the rails allowng them to tip as they wound in and out of the mountain, adding to the feeling of danger. Perhaps this was a design that was considered unsafe and maybe why the whole ride was rebuilt a short time later? Over the years, the track has been completely redesigned and elements of it (like the nasty S-Bend that used to finish the ride) were replaced with boring straight track runs.. Eureka Mountain Mine Ride remains as one of DW's last TRUE themed ride experiences. It simply must stay. Dreamworld, you said they would have to follow the original track layout but the last track standing for this ride is anything but original!! They don't have to build it the same way and if they do one day reopen Eureka I hope it will be bigger and better than before..
  21. ^ Excellant, a nice little addition for the place. Glad to see they have decided to include them in the ticket price. I'll look forward to giving them a go when I pop in for a visit next month
  22. I'm guessing that due to low seating capacity and huge crowds expected this Summer, the wait for this ride is going to get pretty horrendous - no matter how quick the cycle time My best advise to anyone out there, go mid week and avoid school holidays if you wanna get a few goes in! Thanks for the article too Richard. The pic looks awesome!
