  1. ^ Interesting! Not much of a view out at MW though. Even so, it's a great family friendly attraction for any Park - even at WetnWild. If they did put it at MW, they would perhap have to seriously consider it's placement by the back of house areas - it's not a good look seeing cast members in costumes smoking or furries with their heads off!
  2. Interesting they are considering a new Western Stage show? I wonder if this means something will actually be happening over at Police Academy and this is to take the weight off things?
  3. ^ HA! It would be nice if that was the reason why but I don't think so!! When the rapids ride opened it was in great condition and had better lighting and better animations than today... Shocking considering that was more than 20 years ago - you'd think it would be the other way around?!?! I remember seeing a couple of animatronic Mountain goats at the end of the ride on the ledge (under the mine ride). Like so many other parts of DW though, they disappeared not long after and were replaced with nothing. Regarding the Log ride, it amazes me that people are prepared to wait for 45 minutes to go on when Wild West at MW is practically a walk on, yet there is no comparison between the two.
  4. ^ I totally agree... Eureka is one of DW's classic's and should be maintained for future audiences to enjoy. When an attracrtion becomes too old, it either needs to be upgraded, replaced or at the very least maintained. DW over the years has continued to neglect it's older attractions and now that so many years have passed, we are starting to see some of the golden oldies fall apart into the History books. What next? The Rapid Ride?Macquarie leisure should take a leaf out of WVTP's books on this. They understand the importance of keeping the ENTIRE Park looking as fresh as possible & don't allow this to happen as it creates an overall poor public perception. I guess it shows the differance between letting a bank run the place as opposed to a company with decades of committed experience..
  5. On Super before you launch and Superman supposedly comes to the rescue, there is an Intellabeam that streaks a blur of light on the wall beside the train to riders right hand side. There is no blast of air that accompanies this effect, well at least there never has been all the times I have rided. Maybe your referring to the steam coming out of the pipes at the start of the ride? anywho.. As for Scooby, it was built with Mirrors on the floor to add to the effect of height as well as the lasers. The fog juice machines should spray every time a new train enters the room. They are occasionally turned off if the fog gets too thick and spreads into the first part of the ride which is fitted with sensitive smoke detectors. For this reason, they may have toned it down to minimise the risk of costly visits from the Fire Brigade!
  6. I rode Scooby the other day and there was some smoke out the back but not a lot.. The mirrors seemed to be gone from the floor though, maybe they are doing some work on it? Also, there is no air blast on your feet at Superman. Can you imagine the cost involved in such an effect??? Not to mention a point in doing it in the first place!!
  7. well my immediate thought would be budget wise, no way could MW afford a Simpsons Ride like the one Universal has planned for BTTF. But then Shrek is almost exactly the same here as it is in the US and of course they would save a packet seeing the Technology (and no doubt expensive footage) has already been developed overseas for Universal.. Hmm.. Oh well it's nice to dream but how cool would that be? I have no doubt this new ride in Universal is going to be a smash hit when it eventually opens
  8. Well the above comment is a matter of opinion and clearly not a well supported one. Sure, family guy and Sth Park are great shows but the Simpsons is an institution that people have grown up and lived with all their lives. Next time, take a breath and have a think about what you're going to say before shooting your mouth off..
  9. well if they were going to do that, how awesome would it be to put the planned BTTFR/conversion to Simpsons ride inside the show stage!
  10. Also Adults at Kids price tickets are doing the rounds EVERYWHERE in Brisbane at the moment - Shoppadockets from Woolworths supermarkets are a good source. The offer was on my receipt when I went grocery shopping last night
  11. I bet the ride's theme will have nothing to do with anything that's currently in the area - That's the way they have kept doing things for the last 5 major additions so why stop now?? It would be nice if they stuck to the appeal of the area and worked in themetic landscaping like rockwork and feux mountains but I very very much doubt that will happen. I was led to believe the ride was meant to go across to the island in the middle where most of it would take place. A "Tomb Raider" theme with temples and indoor SPFX scenes would be awesome but lets face it.. DW have never done anything quite so spectacular before, I'm not going to hold my breath for anything like that from them now. But u never no, I may be pleasantly suprised
  12. Hey that's really dissappointing to hear! Sounds like one of the 2 projectors wasn't working. Trouble is, MW did away with a full time Theatre Projectionist years ago, nowadays if such problems occur the guests are now usually the first to know. Well I hope someone had the forsythe to report the problem straight away. Shrek is one of MW's top attractions and is a truly world class 3D show
  13. Interesting there aren't any Resident's living on the Spit permanently AT ALL! So god knows who is doing the whinging!! The GCCC have a reputation for being (er um) amongst the most dodgy in Australia and have pushed through all sorts of changes (like building height codes and suburban developments) for the region in recent years often without proper consent of residents. I can't see why they would hold up SW. As said by others I think the eye is a magnificent site for the coast. A true Icon which is something the region has been lacking. Fair enough, a large portion of land on the spit is dedicated to the Environment but most of the Spit is in fact reclaimed. Other than a bit of power usage, The Eye has little impact to the environment it stands on. I hope they get to keep it
  14. I am in totally agree with the majority here, a coaster in a water park does seem odd. WnW has done amazing attandance results this summer - having beat even MW on many days. Surely this halfpipe coaster will continue to build on the success they have seen this past Summer. Heck, I know it will draw me to the park when they open it! Inspite of this, I cannot understand WVTP's decision to continue to neglect SW by not building any new rides. How many more price rises will the park see before people stop going? I mean it is becoming a very expensive Zoo to visit!! SW park's over seas have a nice blend of rides, shows and displays. IMO the only world class attractions at SW today are Dolphin Cove and Shark Encounter. The place needs more. A Lot more.. There is space to expand, they just need to get more creative about expanding!! An observation tower, a nice new water coaster or a cute dark ride featuring terrors of the deep could all fit well into SW whilst keeping the place family friendly.
  15. A great idea but they won't do it. they have already tried a Studio Tour and at one stage years ago, even considered the idea of adding a "Disaster Town" feature attraction to the studio tour. New rides and attractions in the park took priority at this time and the studio tour died a slow death. Rather than add another attraction themed to a specific Film, a WB's Museum could showcase the genre, the industry's advancements and always keep evolving with new feature attractions, updates and additions. It could take over the existing MATRIX building space and even perhaps be built out into the surrounding western area that could be re-sculpted to fit this larger, more impressive attraction. As for Police Academy, there is no argument it is a great show. But it could always be better and surely could benefit greatly from newer advancements in show FX and technology. It could even remain themed to Police Academy as it has proven to be such a popular theme over time. My Blue sky vision - I'd like to see them knock down the arena all together and put an impressive WB's Museum style attraction in that space (the neighbours have always hated the noise from the show anyway) and relocate the stunt show in a bigger, better and more fanciful venue over next to LW and behind Scooby.
  16. I really like everyone's thoughts on the Park adding a Museum Movie Magic style attraction. I think a Museum style self paced attraction that is highly interactive is the key - Think Disney's Innoventions only with a Movie based focus. The attraction could have various sponsors so as to keep evolving and featuring exhibits based on new feature films and technologies - that way the attraction could remain timeless and never get stale. This was a major problem for Movie magic and for this reason i don't think a Movie magic show is what the place needs. They have already been down that road. A Movie Innoventions if done right (and done big enough to keep you entertained for long enough) would be a fabulous addition, not to mention a welcome relief from the hot QLD sun in the middle of summer!
  17. Thought it was time to start a topic on the Park's new attraction(s) planned for 2007. As far as I'm aware, there are no new rides planned for MW in 2007 - fine with me given how well they have done with new additions lately. I have heard persisting rumours that Police Academy (in it's current form) will play it's last show this year and make way for a new show attraction. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumour?? If so will this be a totally new show or just a completely revamped and updated Police Academy show? I suspect the Australian Idol attraction planned for the old Maverick venue will be a filler whilst the PA show would be closed. It would not suprise me at all if Matrix also goes this year and makes way for something new. I would love to see another Harry Potter Attraction return in it's place. Your thoughts?
  18. WVTP's have always been very strict on shirts and footwear on their rides for health & safety reasons. No-one wants to sit on a seat covered in someone else's sweat plus there is a greater possibility someone may get their bare skin pinched or hurt I suppose. I think Footwear explains itself. It would be a very suprising step away from such policies if they decided to do without them for this new WnW ride.. Anyway, back on topic. Let's hope that with this decision SW is affording much grander plans this year. Whilst the Park can consistently rely on overseas visitors and season pass holders, to boost local numbers it needs a good solid Capital Injection that would include one major attraction, one medium and perhaps another display. As spoke of before, A watercoaster would be a real hoot for the Park and Atlantis (as done overseas) would be a brilliant theme. Seeing the SW eye go in May IMO will be a sad loss for the place, I'd like to see them invest in a permenant eye for the Park. Perhaps an Intamin one like DCA's? My guess is the Seal Rocks display that has been on the cards for some time will also be on the cards. As for room to expand, they just need to look around and be a bit m,ore creative with the space they have. The land from the first monorail station down to the Plaza and across to the Dockside tavern could be considered and of course there is the space between Corkscrew and Bermuda
  19. I agree it will take some getting use to - in a Park where people don't wear shirts or shoes and will now have to remember to bring those along if they want to ride? It seems like a big shift WVTP is choosing to move WnW as Richard said. It is also just a baby step really. In a Park where the attractions are predominantly waterslides and pools, the Park will need to add more suitable dry attractions quickly to commit to such a change. Anyway, back on topic.. What about Seaworld? No matter what people say on this board, the increasing number of guest complaints that there isn't enough to do for everyone or it's "Boring" is a reality. Sure, it's a beautiful Park but $60+ to shell out pp is getting a little steep. SW needs a capital boost this year. Now that the focus has shifted to WnW, can we expect any new major project at SW to happen this year? I hope so..
  20. Thanks for the report!! I'm a tad dissapointed you ranked the staff lowely - MW has always had a great reputation for excellance in customer service. I do hope this isn't changing..
  21. I'm a little confused.. I heard WVTP had aquired two new rides for 07 with no plans to add a newwie to WnW, SW & MW again being the contenders.. Anyway, I guess it's not essential a new ride be built at MW this year, they have had a good run in that department. I would like to see Matrix go and hear rumours of it's demise (for something new for September??). I'm also aware of an Australian Idol attraction going in to the old Maverick venue this year. Members of the public will be encouraged to compete in a once daily show and rumours suggest the best one will actually wind up in the top 12 of the actual show. If that's the case, we'll be seeing a lot of wannabes making the pilgrimage to the Park over the season. Sorry but I am just not excited by this. I don't know how other people feel about it? Anyway, clearly it won't be a perm addition so I guess maybe it really is time for the Police Academy to run it's last show? I wouldn't miss it because I have seen it way too many times although it really really is a hard act to follow.
  22. Agreed. MW has always been focused on not 'over capitilising' the Park whereby more money is spent than people coming in to justify the outlay. It's a very delicate balance because at the same time, it is still a relatively new Park and capital growth is an important part of the Park maintaining it's position as market Leaders. Over the past 10 years or so where we have seen such dynamic expansion at MW, we have also seen a decline in attractions that are heavy on Staff to run as well as street entertainment and number of shows. This shift has also been essential in justifying the expenditure (to keep the day-to-day operating costs as low as possible)
  23. ^ I like this idea because it links one end of the park to the front (would help with crowd flow) Unfortunately, this whole area is Back Of House for Administration, the Costume shop and Wardrobe, Tech Services, Administration and Staff eating areas. It is a crucial 'nerve centre' to Park operations so I don't think it would be feasable to build a foot walk through the middle of it. There are so many other areas of land being explored for redevelopment at the moment and this is not one of them, well at least not for now anyway. I would expect to see the Lethal Weapon area to the western area linked up behind scooby as the next big "expansion" of the Park's footwalk areas
  24. I too agree that The Tune ride should stay. Looney Tunes characters are classic in every sense of the word - Bugs Bunny is "Mickey Mouse" to a WB's Theme Park and there should always be a place to celebrate them at MW. I think it's really cool seeing little one's relating to the like's of Tweety etc even today. Looney Tunes are an institution and IMO, amongst WBMW's GREATEST ASSETS! As for the Tune ride itself, I think it is most important the ride is 'freshened' to move with the times. If this means a need for updates and improvements then so be it.. Personally, I would like to see new scenes and new WoW! factor added - Perhaps reconsider the whole front area so simply a Queue tells the story with Animations playing on a loop as people line up at the earth drill - I think MW moved away from Show presented Rides years ago. They could even look at adding a new thrill suprise in the middle such as Boats being sucked into a vortex from Marvin The Martian's radar where the Boat twirls around or change/improve the finale! This ride has so much potential. Even if they did nothing but update and spruce it up, I'd be happy! I believe a refresh of the Tunes area is on the Cards this year anyway so let's hope they've got exciting plans for the Tune ride too!
