100% agree with this idea for DW to reboot the Thunderbolt name, using it solely for the Park's largest and yet to become most iconic coaster. In a more convincing attempt to theme it, I reckon the old Blue Lagoon site would make for a perfect location, tieing in with the Bushranger / aussie pioneer theme, it would serve as an ideal fit to a refreshed Gold Rush area that could also easily include the Log Ride and not so easily, Giant Drop (perhaps rethemed as a giant well or mining instrument. The original Thunderbolt was the Park's 'weenee' and perhaps inappropriately themed to a Country Fair at the time. I would love to see a ThunderboltII featuring two gigantic loops at the start of the ride and maybe some sudden drops and dives into below ground / dark segments. Regardless, it should be a nod to the Park's history, yet presented in a way that signifies a bigger, brighter future and direction for the Park It mustn't be made of wood either. DW simply wouldn't maintain it And yes, dreams are still free -
What will replace Looney Tunes River Ride?

I'm with AlexB and Slick on this one too. So much could be done with such a large space and an indoor 'park within a park' featuring a swag of flats, retail and dining - perhaps even a nice dark ride, hell, even include the kids car ride, but execute it better. With a big chunk of the park already undercover, such a family friendly addition would make MW the hands down pick for tourists having to do a Theme Park on a rainy day - whilst still having an enjoyable time -

Ok I'm going to beg for recognition now. Did anybody actually read my last post because I thought it was pretty bloody hilarious! Joz? Maybe you had to be there or have a stupid sense of humour... I dunno.. I tried.. Never fear and like it or not people I will strike again oneday but only when the time is right. For now, back to my sensible box I go -

Well at least that gigantic shed is being put to some functional use, albeit a rather bland interior design effort lol. ★★★WARNING HUGE AMOUNTS OF STUPIDITY AND SARCASM LIE AHEAD★★★ NOW HERE'S A THOUGHT Perhaps they could consider recreating the look of an authentic giant unused sound stage as a fitting tribute to the Park's previous "Movie Magic" theme? This unique and delightfully inexpensive new attraction would consist of fully self escorted walking tours, showcasing the endless possibilities that such a vast empty space may or may not have! At the beginning of the tour, guests may opt to rent headsets for just $20 that are designed to enhance the tour experience within. Guests are reminded that the headsets are not for keeps and useless outside of the Auditorium. Crossing into the darkness, the group is given a moment to let their eyes adjust. Suddenly an announcement is made: "Hi everyone and welcome to the former Looney Tunes Studios (audience cheers). A place where imagination is non existent and absolutely nothing inside will happen. Today our tour will take us into the empty space of the former Tune Studios, but before I go on there is some important information I must inform you all about (audience sighs). You see it would appear that a demolition crew has taken everything away from the set and stolen Bugs Bunny! (Audience sighs). Apparently he was tossed out into a dumpster and heading down to a tip out back of Nerang! (Audience sighs again) But remember folks. You are afterall in a place where nothing could possibly happen, so let's head onto the set and forget about that Wascilly Wabbit" (doors open, guests enter) As guests walk within the witches hats, another voice over sounds: "Be sure to have those cameras at the ready folks - you just might feel the need to let your mind wonder away from the incredibly distracting nothing themeing inside, giving you something to do. We kindly ask that you also refrain from the use of flash photography as there is simply no point- you're about to experience a completely forgettable adventure, unlike anything else in the world and the largest of it's kind in the southern hemisphere!" Seemingly hours pass by yet amazingly just 15 minutes later, guests exit to the East side obligatory gift shop, with a twist that features everything from dry-rotted chairs, once featured in the Sundowner diner to buckets full of melted green coloured toxic slime, as formerly featured in the "Great Gremlin Adventure" - now yours to own for just 50 dollars! The Park's retail division not surprisingly excited by this fantastic big cash spinner! As they round the building and back into the park, guests face one last exciting surprise - bugs bunny sitting atop a loaded dumpster! Much to everyone's delight, this one last animatronic dodged the trip to the tip, now proudly twirling his eyes, mouth chattering away and with no audio, leaving it too the guests to figure out what he's supposed to be saying.. perhaps only those who remember the old ride will know or possibly care to But seriously... -

Battlestar Galactica coaster closure/retheme

According to screamscape.com Despicable me will NOT be coming to Uni Singapore - frankly I'm totally fine with this. The idea is cute and all but having rode it's two previous incarnations, the ride system is unconvincing and well, just blah.. When I was visiting a couple of months ago I was surprised to see how run down the duelling coasters had become. Faided paint and signs of surface rust everywhere. I was never the biggest fan of Battlestar - both sides made an uncomfortable burn as they launched over the top and poorly negotiated corners with a few sharp bumps here and there.. The red side almost barely made it to the finish line and allegedly didn't on a few occasions before being shuttered for good. It's certainly no duelling dragons/dragon challenge and suffered badly because of it's Vekoma heritage. God forbid they don't enlist kumback for the rumoured new trains. ? If the ride does indeed stay, perhaps Startrek could make for a good theme? Star fleet vs Borg perhaps? ? Or is this perhaps being reconsidered as a future site for a Wizarding World? Hmm.. -
It is possible to reride AA although at no time -with people riding- is this technically permitted by Operations or for that matter accepted practice by the ride manufacturer's to do so. I am saying this simply because this information may be interesting to you Enthusiasts and also to suggest if you ever experience this for yourself that you consider notifying Guest Relations as it may be risking Guest safety! The Controller / Supervisor has 3 switches and a launch button. The switches are for the restraints, gates and the platform. They sit at a '12o'clock' position. Turn to one way, harnesses lock/gates/platform open/lowers. Turn the other way, restraints open/gates close/platform raises. The station Attendant also has an 'ok to launch' button. This will only do it's job when gates are closed with all harnesses locked. Not until this button is pressed can the Controller dispatch the car (button becomes illuminated) - and of course they can't do that without harnesses first being locked and gates closed As with all modern rides, however big or small, there are two different operating modes; Manual & Automatic. Manual mode is for use outside of operating hours and mainly used by Maintenance for isolating and testing specific blocks and functions. Just like in a car, Manual mode allows intentional control of a ride.whilst Automatic is designed for live operation.Less so, it is also used by Operations for safety testing as well as to manipulate specific areas during breakdown / Estops. Modern rollercoasters require power to unlock guest safety restraints, regardless of manual/auto status. It is power that sets you free from your position - not the other way around. This is truly the ultimate safety advantage of our modern safe ride technology With all this in mind, if you were to re-ride passengers on AA: - Train returns to station - Platform Attendant holds Ok button - Supervisor holds platform down - Supervisor holds dispatch button down - Gates obviously remain closed - Power is not returned to harnesses as cannot be released until platform is up and switches tripped - Harnesses remain locked as a result - Train is re-dispatched, barely stopping the car The issue here is the ride is being forced somewhat in to a manual function, whilst still operating in Automatic mode and therefore is something outside of it's warranted Operation. Like I said earlier, if you ever experience this for yourself you are better to report it. According to the the ride's design it would be improbable that anything could go wrong. Likewise, this would outside of it's original design and therefore foolish to practice

A Replacement for Dinosaur island

Pretty much Gazza. Not particularly exciting, SW could do better than this. HOWEVER whilst on the subject how about using this as a theme (mythical creatures of the deep) for a wonderful family friendly thrill dark ride along the lines of this new innovation in theme park thrills coming to Europa Park this year http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_-_The_Ride -
Speaking of height.. perhaps we will see one of these take it's place?

Agreed. MW NEEDS FLATS. A couple of midway style rides, one for the Asylum courtyard and one in the western area would make a big difference. Reef Diver or Enterprise is one of my all time fave flats. It's thrilling and appeals to a wide demographic. It has also provided some much needed kinetic motion to DWs skyline for many years. I'm sad to hear it go

Interesting if you google each of our Parks by title, Both MW & SW have been equally rated a 4 out of 5 by 80 votes each. DW scored 4.2 by 86 votes.. interesting I guess if the general public view is that DW still is the favorite park. I believe this to be true. Enthusiasts excluded naturally but really who is their target audience and are they continuing to satisfy that true demand? Like it or not people but I think they are!

Wow look at the state of the wave at the back!! At first glance that 1st pic looked like a vine growing over the left side of the wave (fortunately not) Eureka Mountain almost looks in better condition!! But seriously,I am very glad to see they have reckognised a need for a major overhaul of one of their 'big6,7,8,15?!?' headliners - a somewhat backflip on the way much of the rest of the park has been looked after in years gone by. Dreamworld is clearly an over capitalised park and for too many years I believe this has been it's breaking strain. IMO they're better to spend on removing the shit that holds them back, the stuff that nobody goes there for anymore, rather, spend the money keeping what is worthwhile and ultimately reduce operating costs and sculpt a more positive future -
My sister just uploaded this gem on facebook.. this is how I remembered Magic Mountain

What will replace Looney Tunes River Ride?
MickeyD replied to WED99's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I WANT to see them put a family attraction in there. This is not that. It is an idea targeted at an early age market that would occupy valuable real estate unnecessarily. It is also a poorly executed idea that has no place in a true Theme Park. Of course right now this is all speculation. Isn't this a site for Theme Park enthusiasts? Well at least thats what I thought the last decade or so I have been a member on here. Some people need to just chill the fuck out and enjoy the friendly banter that this place SHOULD be all about. Like I said, we will have to just wait and see.. I've had a pretty good strike rate in the past. Maybe this time I've got it all wrong. Still fun to speculate -

The car ride, if it does still go ahead, won't take up much of the building space. Right now it's still a big empty space that's a handy store and maintenance shed. Makes me think the kiddie cars have been scrapped all together. Mostly educated guess -I mean come on, what sort of sound business decision is this idea anyway? Also a little wishful thinking too perhaps, however I am sure I speak for most when I say nobody wants this thing. One way or another, this year we will find out for sure -

Great idea! I agree that with minimal investment a few things could be tweaked with Scooby, to better connect it to the ongoing and clearly very successful franchise. Unfortunately such an investment wouldn't sell any more tickets and perhaps for this reason I wouldn't expect any major changes here for some time yet. On the other hand you can bet that the old Tune Shed will be the site of MW'S next major attraction. I can't help but think there are some lingering regrets in head office surrounding the perhaps hasty decision to shelve the Tune ride without first having a clear plan for it's future. The ridiculous irony afterall that when it does oneday again throw open it's doors, my bet is Bugs and friends will once again have a headline attraction for the park that will perhaps have a similar family friendly appeal as Scooby/wild west. I am quietly thrilled that folks up top came to their senses about the driving school - the most unimaginative and pathetically executed concept and replacement to a once beloved family favourite -
Coupled with the fact that mattcrombie seldom spins shit and we only usually hear from him when he has actual news to share, I gotta say my ears pricked up and I started paying attention to this thread for a moment.. speaking of,does this now need to be split off into one of the other many sea viper threads?

Yup - unlike Dreamworld, Dreams are still free

Awesome cheers for the info too Jobe! The curled crowns above each carriage are certainly reminiscent of the Cascade version that I recall which from memory was chrome, black with orange coloured bulbs atop the crowns. Its a fun ride to watch in action. I suspect safety concerns might have been an issue and could never undersrand why the Gravitron spinner superseeded this which imo was a far superior and more exciting spinner. Thanks again for the memories!

Dude you're spot on - i didnt think there was one left out there so thanks for helping me find this classic spinning beast:)
-
I just had a fond flashback of a travelling Carnival ride from the 80s circa that I recall titled 'Cascade'. From memory, it consisted of 2 rotating platforms connected by a central base that also spun. Riders would stand up against half sections of each turn table with no safety restraints. Similar to the Gravitron, the ride would spin very fast with riders around the outside, facing in, no restraints -only there were bars either side of you to grasp. The turn tables would lift up to around 45 degrees and somehow 'dance' and intertwine with one another in a rather random fashion. Can anyone tell me what this ride system was and if this ride system still exists? It seemed to have disappeared around the same time the Gravitron made it's debut. I would love to see one of these very unique Carnival Spinners still in Operation if anyone knows more I would be most grateful Thanks guys Mikey

Hey peeps sadly today is the last Hollywood stunt driver show in it's current format with a cast and crew hired by WBMW - moving forward the show will be ran by outside contractors. A sad day today for those people who are looking for work - it's not exactly an industry offering many full time opportunities. I can't say I'm an admirer of many HR decisions made within the Village workplace in recent times, it seems that the Bean counters have been given free roam of the place.. Anyways, best of luck to the crew of the show and in your future endeavours

So glad this has been raised now. The timing is perfect for Management to finally have a few good reasons to pull their finger out and actually do something about what really can be a simple and cheap fix by following a few quick and easy steps: * remove the stupid gate * rework the entire plaza menu and look outside the square and offer some more perhaps healthier and/or 'enticing' dining options * fill the shops with more stuff that people want to buy, like tasteful and useful souvenirs that wont wind up on mantels covered in dust or boxes in forgotten about There was once a time when that gate only closed when the train rolled by. The plaza has been there since before Lassiters and was part of a master project that was hatched to float SW property trust shares. At the time this was bundled with the resort next door together with SW aviation and other emerging projects up the road at the then failed Oxenford studios and "Folkworld" theme park projects..The other part "Seaworld Wharf" was never built - Shark bay wound up there many years later, thankfully.. My point is that so much has changed since they locked that gate.. ( back in the mid 90s? ) that how on earth could they possibly know removing it 20 odd years later WONT affect their precious retail and food sales? If they were that concerned they should stop worrying about a stupid gate and think about more pressing issues like giving visitors a reason to open their wallets and spend - make them want to rather than feel like they have to. I last visited a few months ago. It was a sunday and the park was busy. We decided to eat at the same time everyone else did and spent the last hour of our day basically shunted slowly back to the front gate because there was literally nowhere to sit in the plaza, dockside or entry dining places. It would take 5 minutes to walk up and get an overpriced burger meal but where do u sit and try to enjoy it??? For 20 bucks u atleast want a table and chairs.. Fed up, we left and grabbed some maccas on the way home.. Yes this was a busier than average day granted but VIP passes have certainly done their job in keeping turnstiles spinning out record profits year in/ year out for vtps. I think its high time they take a closer look at the way their parks flow operationally and respond more appropriately to the changes that they are ultimately responsible for. Perhaps management needs some new blood in the ranks before the dinosoars become extinct
