  1. But does it still look that bad now it's finished? It's still being erected in that photo so
  2. I dunno, it serves it's purpose and I'm sure the intended Audience doesn't see it that way. Besides, it's the same style of manufacture as so many others out there like it. Certainly not one for Adults but I bet that won't stop some of them riding!
  3. I believe it's 20 metres. Lethal Weapon is 30 and i don't think it's quite that high
  4. Right! I think we're a bit off topic but not a worry - We'll all be looking at the Motocoaster in operating action in a day or two now so lets get back on topic hey? Surely someones got something constructive to add on the ride? If not, put up, shut up and watch the show... PS AlexB nice speech
  5. WnW has been around for decades and has had plenty of time to blossum into what is today recognised in the top 5 water parks in the world. It's a stand alone park. WWW was built to compliment DW and largely as a way to boost Macquarie's $$ per guest. No matter how much Capital is injected into WWW's future, WnW will always be one step ahead because it is already so established. I think it is important for both owners to recognise this so the two Park's can flaunt their differences and continue to maximise their own success.
  6. Yeah, i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and sit tight and see what happens. If the launch is faster then so too will be the rest of the ride - hitting the highest point at a faster speed will pace up the trip. In saying that, it's designed to be a family ride afterall. It looks kind of fun but I won't go out of my way to ride it in a hurry
  7. ^ I heard this too with the plan for a "Springfield" area to replace the old part of the Western area out the front of and including the stage show. Last I heard this plan has been shelved for the time being but how awesome would it be to see the new Universal Simpsons ride hit the Park some time in 2008?!?!
  8. ^ I guess that's the major issue with DW today - Themeing (or lack thereof). I'm an old school DW Buff. Back in it's hey day, it was easily the best Park, hands down. It's a shame to see these days too much focus is put on the brand new attractions whilst they let the old one's slip by the weigh side (or vanish all together). Having worked almost 10 years in Theme Park's myself, it makes me angry to see DW in the state it's in today. Are the Manager's blind? Why do they not seem to see what is so obvious to so many of us who spend far less time wondering the grounds?? Without much effort at all, I see rust, closed attractions, boarded up areas, faded paint work, old footpaths, very few atmosphere performers, broken lights, dust, cobwebs & visible wood rot. Not to mention the horrendous colour scheme that has engulfed the area in more recent times (ie Main st Facades & Captain Sturt) These efforts have only made the problems stand out more... IN FLURO! As the old jingle goes "Do Dreamworld just for Fun"....Yeap that's about it -just 'fun' with no 'frills'? I hope one day we see a return to a Dreamworld that has 'themed' areas and more continuity. The addition of some 'adventure' based attractions that rely equally on visual wow's as they do thrills and maybe tell a bit of a story. Sadly, it's been a very long time since we have seen any of that here..
  9. I'm sorry but I think this looks pretty lame.. I mean, what do we have here?? Some colourful fibreglass bowls, turf and a garden that looks comparable to a local housing development. Yeah the area looks really 'nice' and I reckon that's just about all it is!
  10. Awesome! Thanks for the pics. Well QLD school Holiday's officially start tomorrow - I wonder how soon this little number will be riding real peeps? Not long to go at all by the looks!
  11. All in all, these are some nice little additions to the Park. I dare say now MW has the most expansive, dedicated children's area of any Australian Theme Park.. A real little home run!
  12. Hey thanks for the update and pictures. The Tassie's Kids Bumber cars have been there for quite a while now. I wonder what the other children's ride is being installed? The Merry-go-round type of ride looks rather on the cheap side at the moment but I'm sure they will gloss it up as they always do
  13. ^ You are way of the mark (not that it matters) It went: 1) Bullpen (we're guest's on stage were selected for the show) 2) Superman stage (Blue screen effects) 3) Sound FX stage (Lethal Weapon 2) 4) Memphis Belle SPFX stage Scary thying is I can still remember every single script (I did them too many times) but I'll spare us the sanity of resiting them
  14. ^ yep that's pretty much it! U got Memphis and Lethal weapon sound FX around the wrong way though (memphis was last) Oh and BTW I used to work on the Studio tour in it's er hey day and I can tell you that none of the costumes in those cabinets were original!!!
  15. Well I'm sorry mate but you're the one who doesn't know their facts - there was a fire in one of the studio Sound Stages caused during filming House of Wax and another one also occured in the Park atop the Wild West Falls, that's it. The Studio Tour closed down long before the Superman ride was ever even thought of and it was the Movie Magic show that was replaced by Superman
  16. ^ I don't think that's it at all.. I believe there are other plans for the old Maverick building (both short & long term). I'm with Adam on this one - I think it will make for a great filler attraction, giving the Park more balance. The new additions for the Tune Village will also help create this and it's good to see such additions being made between the much bigger developments (which we obviously won't see this year.)
  17. Yeah well maybe not movies but definately Theme Parks unfortunately! Does nothing for me but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that will enjoy it. They could have done so much better with the space. Oh well, lets wait and see before we judge
  18. The Tune ride according to the website will reopen tomorrow however looking at the extent of redevelopment in the area, maybe it will be down for longer?? It has been closed for almost a month already. It's great to see the Park going to such efforts in maintaining and updating things.. A little birdy told me about a year ago there were some fairly impressive plans for the Tune area in time for Xmas this year - I don't believe this included new attractions as such, mainly just updating the original section of the Tune Village area to make it fit the newer area. I hope when the Tune ride reopens we do see lighting and Animatronics fixed/updated as the show was beginning to show it's age
  19. I have a theory and maybe I'm beginning to 'get' what Dreamworld has become: Every time they add a new ride, the existing area's themeing is ditched and something completely different is thrown into the mix right? - Well Dreams generally don't make sense either right? And today, neither does Dreamworld so I guess the technicolour vomit paint scheme of the place and irradic themeing fits the canvas perfectly?!?! hehe Seriously though, I really don't think DW's Management care too much for the importance of themeing. The average paying guest has little or no appreciation for it and for the most part, themeing is not the reason why they are visiting a place like Dreamworld - That's what Movieworld is for;) Anyway, this thread is not about slamming the Park (there have been plenty of those, but ...awe it's fun;0) I think it's terrific the park is getting a much needed family Coaster but having grown up with Dreamworld, I also think it's sad to see the place become more of a Fun Park than a Theme Park
  20. The studio tour at MW in it's original form was more educational and informative than entertaining. - I worked on it for the last few years of it's life and can remember guest's reaction when they would get off the bus at the end - "That's it??" - they would respond looking puzzled... I think MW management made the right decision in responding to guest surveys to replace the attraction slowly over time, The studio tour making it's last trip some years before Movie Magic wound to an end.. I do agree however that a Movie based Theme park needs more immersive/educational/info-tainment type attractions to compliment the now impressive list of coasters and thrills. Others have mentioned on this board before they would like to see a kind of WB's museum - basically a big indoors prop house (ala Innoventions from Disney) that has theatrettes and 'hands on'displays. I applaud the idea and think it would be a relatively inexpensive and very much needed addition to the Park.
  21. I would suggest one of the main reasons why Aussie Parks do not let the cat out of the bag on upcoming attractions is quite often the final product is inferior to the original "blue-sky" vision. In almost every single example of attractions opened of late, this has been the case. I guess when budgets are originally set for attractions, other expenses may get in the way and/or the development costs blow out needing them to cut back at last minute. For this reason, it would make no sense for them to promote an exciting upcoming attraction that promises so many things and winds up dissappointing as there is an expectation there.
  22. ^ I can't believe you have compared Cyclone in any way, shape or form to Superman Escape lol
  23. ^ Nice one Skippy! I couldn't have said it better myself! You're dead right, John longhurst was the Mr Disney of Dreamworld and the place has been run by Eisner's and accountants pretty much every day since. People that lack vision and passion really should stay the hell out of running Theme Parks..
  24. ^awesome news!! I had a hunch last time I visited that would be the site for the new slides. The rest of the park has had so much attention of late, it's great too see them working on the original side which will help toward balancing the flow of guests later in the year after the Halfpipe opens. Totally agree with the comments above - For a company that has Australia's highest paid CEO, Macquarie bank needs to pull their thumb out and put their money where their mouth is:)
