Now that's one hell of a Wheel!! Nice one SW!!! Hey I thought SW was restricted on how high it can build it's attractions (ppl on these boards have said countless times before) Maybe if that is true, they can only lease it for short periods at a time till they can convince the GC city council otherwise (which shouldnt be hard if it does well, i'm sure it will!!)
-
^It's way too early to tell. Expect another thrill ride of some description going into the area that will leed from the current LW entrance to behind Superman
-
^ another good reason why a Half pipe could wind up at MW instead? Given the Park has invested so much in the paste few years, I'm not expecting the 07 one will be a HUGE investment for MW(not that 5 million isn't pretty good!) Mind you I'm also not expecting there to be just one new ride at MW next year (not that I'm expecting two rides as such either;) Anyway it is simply not practical to put a rollercoaster in WnW (besides a proslide rocket coaster perhaps?) MW management are very strict on attire when riding their attractions for safety & comfort reasons - Shirts and footwear must be worn at all times.

I drove past the Parks today and WnW was very busy given it's not holidays - I could see big queues for Speed slide, H20 Zone and a pretty huge queue for Tornado (looked like at least 50pax waiting) The car Park was pretty full - only a couple of rows in the Outback car Park were available. I could see the new Car Park laid across to the right. That's going to be very handy this Xmas!! Over at DW, WWW is coming along nicely but really looks like a half day park to me right now. I guess with the crowds there this Xmas, patrons will be spending a good half of their days AT LEAST waiting in queue. This is when I think DW's new two park tickets will do well - I guess on a much bigger scale it's a similar thing to what happens in Disneyland. When it's too busy there, people head to DCA. No doubt in my mind, DW is going to face big problems with Car Parking it's guests this Xmas. Staff will no doubt use the old Thunderbolt site but that's only going to be a small help. There is little more room between the Carpark boundary and the Highway

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride

Hey thanx for the pics!! It's good to see some movement. I really hope that area undergoes a bit of a transformation to accommodate it's new addition. Those trees over the Batride Queue really need cut back or just plain rip em out! -
Last time I went that effect wasn't working which is a bit of a shame really.. I was really disappointed with how they have "DeFurbished" the final lift scene with the Sparkers (now there is nothing) and no explosion at the top. MW is obviously ensured for such things as Fire, so I can't understand why the money wasn't spent on restoring the show to at least it's original Quality?
-
^ I can assure you it was being planned in fact they did pull it off for the LW Pursuit ride in Germany when it opened.. Would have been a waste of time though. As Richard said, a preshow that made sense (like what was planned) would have been sufficient.
-
The only way it could fit I'd say would be side on so you can view it from the GC highway across the Broadwater
-
^second hand? ewww.. that seems a little dodgy to me. I mean, a big kick arse brand new ferris wheel is what 5 million bucks at the most? Especially coming from a group that almost always buys things brand new. I hope it is atleast a decent second hand and gets a bit of refreshing before installing so it doesn't look temporary. As for setting it up, I'd say that would only take a month tops

The LW pre-show was doomed from the day it first opened. I was in the original LW opening crew & remember on opening day, I had to get up in front of a bunch of Aussie media and celebs and deliver this dreadful speech about being a stuntman at it being an artform.. Was pretty embarressing Now the original idea (prior to the budget cuts) was you entered the LAPD and Riggs (Gibson) would appear up on screen telling his new recruits (the guests) the baddies had ecaped down town and needed the new recruits to come on a car chase with him. The film that plays was the original that was meant to be cut on a seperate screen and the very last scene was meant to see the BMW come flying through the wall of the LAPD (which later some how turned into a theatre??) With smoke and other effects, you would escape through the wall of the theatre where you would board your squad car to go chase the bad guys (hence why the trains are mainly Black & white to resemble a police car) The ride itself was originally said to feature plumes of smoke and fire as well as a Car that would flip over the coaster in flames at the end of the ride. The LW pursuit ride at MW Germany managed to pull off some of these fx but ironically that ride is now planned to be torn down! I guess it was a little disappointing to see how LW turn out the way it did given there was so much more planned however I think they also realised adding show scenes to a ride that goes so fast had little point. Who would notice all of these fx going on as you wizzed around the track (other than the guests watching below?)
-
Ah but does such a Car Park have to be built where the current one stands?? Anyway back on topic I don't think WnW has anything to worry about it's future, but the new Proslide mentioned would be a most welcome addition to the line up. Not to mention it would easily fit in the HT0 Zone area
-
They sure have! In recent years after adding a new attraction, the existing car Park has spilled over on to the grass - and even on Xmas Hols when there's been nothing majorly new. Now that a section of the old Car Park is gone, the only way to improve the existing one is to do a multi-stack car Park. Too late for this year but I'm sure they have a contingency
-
I think it would add to the Park's image for a few good reasons 1. Provides an unbeatable view over the GC's waters and surrounds 2. Acts as a beacon and a Landmark to attract visitors 3. Provides another good solid Attraction to the Park that appeals to all ages But your right, advertising it alone on TV would be pretty lame.. maybe it could be wrapped up in a big bow with a few other draws for the season (such as a re-hashed Serpant Slayers night show on the ski lake?)
-
Well WnW's slides are really not that old when you think about it - practically everything has been replaced in there over the years. Remember the crappy speed slide that hurt the f*ck out of your back?? The new one is much better. WnW has ALOT going for it - it's sheer size alone is certainly an advantage over the competition in the long term. For one, can you imagine the difference in customer satisfaction in the short term? One Park is going to have crazy lines and the other has enough rides to keep the numbers relatively content. If I were working in DW management I would be thinking very seriously about hiring experienced water Park Managers (if not existing WNW ones) or they just won't know how to handle the crowds.. I still don't know where DW/WWW is going to Park everyone that drives there these Xmas holidays

On top of the old "Thrill seeker " coaster site they are apparently putting in a Big Arse Ferris Wheel.. Don't know the details on what exactly it will look like or how big it will be. Something like DCA's SunWheel would be waaaay cool though.. Anyone know more?? Time to start spilling your gutz.. PLEEEEEEEASE!

Thanks for the words Swanny, I'm glad you agree. Regarding the neighbours, unfortunately they were there first however the area was always zoned "future theme park" before they moved in so they new what they were in for really!! The Park has taken a lot of steps over the years to keep them happy (like hosing down the stage of the Police Academy show and giving them free passes to shut them up!!) Anyways, after 16 years of being open we are now seeing new generations of people moving to that area - no one lives for ever so I guess the whinging has toned down from how it use to be.. After Batwing opens, they should leave that area alone for the time being... UNLESS they already have something else planned for the back of the Park to open around the same time.... If not before! My sources tell me the ill-fated Maverick show venue is finally in for something bigger than that dreadful show with a great set ever promised... Stay tuned! PPS.. Agreed. Scooby is a Thrill ride, if not a Family Thrill ride:)
-
I think they already have dude..
-
I agree it would look great on the skyline with all of those rides in the one area + it will be nice and easy to hop from one to the other. I guess the area at the back of Scooby would be better served for more family "adventure" style rides that go with the landscape and themes. I would like to see that area of the park opened up more though with not just new rides but new facilities too. the areas that could link up - LW to between Scooby and old maverick as well as the other side by the photo area at wild west. It would allow for better guest flow through the place MW needs a new (and good) restaurant. A mexican restaurant was originally planned next to Wild West but that was scrapped at last mninute. With so many attractions down the front packed in, the back area will be lacking content and no doubt ppl!
-
Just stumbbled along this topic again and noticed a few of you talking about a Ferris wheel going on the site.. NICE! Does anyone know if this is going to be a Big mutha like DCA's?? That would be cool with the sliding buckets etc.. Not to mention it would look great on the Spit skyline.. Kind of like a seaside fair..

I believe the plan is to relocate the old Studio Administration building over the next 6 months to make way for the new ride that will go in there (behind Superman). Whilst I completely welcome a new thrill ride such as a big coaster, I think it will be time again for the park to explore another Family thrill ride. Personally I would like to see an advanced Rapid ride or "Atlantas" style water coaster going in. It suprises me MW is keen to build yet another ride in that area of the Park given they have plenty of room where they could build without so much hastle (like between Wild West and LW) The main reason I can think is to have all the noisy rides down the front away from the whinging neighbours out the back. Also i totally agree with others - the LW queue/ entry is a waste of time and space. It was originally intended to be so much more elaborate than it ended up (bloody budget cuts!)

I really don't care what colour it's painted. I do know MW will make it look good though so let's just wait and see! -

Shall I start the betting now?!?! It will be open this year - but only just. As always, expect it to open on Boxing day. Just in time to cash in on the lucrative silly season. Any earlier than that will be a suprise. The ground work part is the most time consuming. When the tower starts being assembled it will literally go up over night -
I wonder if the problems with the Giant version are similar to the problems Vekoma experienced with it's little brother? - The original Boomerang's used to have problems with the chains, the lifts and the strain that the trains took on the hills (both releasing and grappling). Giant Inverted's have perfectly vertical lifts. As it is, the old ones couldn't get by without unpredictable downtime. I remember when "Demon" was originally "Titan" at World Expo88. It broke down ALL THE TIME. Riders would often get stuck up on either hill and usually would have to get out and walk down. Most of the time it was caused due to a limit switch failure or a chain breakage. I was on board when this happened at Expo and was lucky enough to be sitting in the back seat {a nice view at the time}!! I am sure the new owners of the ride resolved so many of these issues after all the problems it caused at World Expo Park. I wonder, if a similar thing happened on a Giant Boomerang, how would you get the people out?? In the mid nineties, I can recall an incident that occured with a Vekoma Boomerang at an Amusement Park in Canada where a train load of riders got caught by the ride's brakes on the Clothoid Loop which had locked up in high pressure. The poor suffering riders hung upside down for ages waiting for assistance to arrive. They were later assisted from their seats (more than an hour upside down) into a Cherry picker back in the mid nineties. They later had to be evacuated.

I don't believe Germany has a Giant Inverted Boomerang. Parque Warner? Gazza are u referring to the one in Spain? Just like the other ones, that one breaks down A LOT TOO!

^ What's it like?? Think of it as a "reverse bungee" - you start in your carriage on the Ground positioned facing outward from one of 4 sides of the Tower with feet dangling etc... You are suddenly fired vertically up, 200 feet in the air and pulling 4g's at the initial launch.. As you reach the top, your carriage runs out of momentum as you start to fall back in the downward direction. The carriage kind of bounces up and down the tower as you make your way back to earth..
