  1. Here is my attempt at creating the Superman:Escape in NoLimits. I used the tunnel on the sections that are inside the building. I don't have any dimensions for this ride, so I'm working off the photos here on Roller-Coaster.com.au and from two videos on YouTube, my memory of the ride, and the track that was uploaded on this board previously. I haven't touched support structure yet, as the ride doesn't ride as I recall it to. If anyone wishes to use this as the basis for their own re-creation, please do so, but post your efforts in this thread also. Cheers guys, -Adam Super.zip
  2. Zane, I just finished a track layout of Superman:Escape in NoLimits this morning. I'll start a new thread in the Gaming board and post it on there. At this point it is NOT perfect. I haven't even started adding supports because I'm not certain on the later parts of the track, and I can't seem to get the exit from the tophat to sit nicely.
  3. Saw an ad on TV this morning. The $79 Annual Pass offer has been EXTENDED to 24th December 2006. Available from Movieworld Front Gate or online at www.movieworld.com.au
  4. I thought maybe a bobby-pin or two?? Maybe some gel and hairspray will do the trick??
  5. Sticking with the Superman:Escape theme, Just wondering how they go about getting the second train onto the circuit. I know where the storage track is, you can see it as you go through the 'subway'. Just wondering how long this takes also. If it takes only a small amount of time, would it not be worth putting the second train onto the circuit to cope with 60minute queues??
  6. If you understand how a spaceshot works, then you understand that whatever you do to the piston affects the gondola. You can hold the gondola at the top of the tower by pumping enough compressed air into the TOP of the pneumatic cylinder. This will hold the piston down, holding the gondola up. Forcing you down faster than gravity is achieved by pumping compressed air in fast enough so that the piston is pushed to the top of the cylinder faster than 9.8m/s/s. Basically, instead of letting you free-fall down to earth, you are Pulled down faster than gravity could pull you.
  7. Turn on the Continuous Rolling button, have the start of the turn being at 0, the next vertex at 90, and the final vertex at 0. Turn continuous on all 3, and your curve will be smoothly banked
  8. Thanks gazza, thats a greatly detailed explanation. I did already know how they work, I was just seeing how well zane knew what he was on about. He's not too off the mark I see
  9. The way a spaceshot works is by having the gondola attached to the piston within a pneumatic cylinder. The air is pumped into the top of the cylinder, pushing the piston down, which causes the gondola to rise. Again using compressed air, the piston is pushed from the bottom of the cylinder to the top, which forces the gondola down. The top of the gondola is attached to the top of the piston, and the bottom to the bottom. So when the piston is pushed down the gondola go up, When the piston is pushed up the gondola goes down. So if you push enough air into the cylinder fast enough, you can in fact force the gondola to travel faster than gravity (9.8m/s/s)
  10. The vortex on scooby doo uses this fog effect, but instead of using a coloured ring gobo, the laser is used and produces the ring. a similar laser is used up at the turntable, where it cuts away for the car to go thru Just a question, to see just how much you do know. Can you explain how the brakes work on Superman Escape?
  11. On my first ever trip to Dreamworld, we rode the Enterprise (now Reef Diver) and my Dad got sick from it. He went and lay in the car for around 2hrs. When he came back we just stuck to tame rides like the log ride, the rapids ride and such.
  12. I'd like to know how Scooby Doo works, and what all the small green LED sensors are for, and if the red LED's in the cars are used for anything
  13. I found the trick to surviving Lethal Weapon was to hold your head either directly back, or hold it against one of the restraints. It is an awesome ride, but rough. Tip for Superman: Escape. Try to get the front or the back. Front car is Gate 5, back car is Gate 1. I found back car was great in that you float over the tophat, and fall into the retraint as you descend into the drop. Also: make sure you have ABSOLUTELY nothing on your person AT ALL. They do check, and if you have anything, they will open the restraints, pull you off and make you join the line again. If you intend on riding this more than once, and your whole group is going to ride, I do suggest hiring one of the All Day Lockers ($7). The Superman lockers I believe are $1 for an hour. If one of your group isn't riding, ask them to hold everything while you ride. Scooby Doo is awesome. My tip would be to make it your first ride for the day. When you see them on the Big Screen 'Opening the Park', go and wait at the barricades to the left of Main Street. When they open them, head over to Scooby Doo. I found that the early queues were really quite short. I enjoyed my morning ride because the people behind us in the lift (we were the front car at the station) didn't know the lift was going to tilt, or that they were going to fall backwards. Personally, I'd steer clear of Batman Adventure The Ride 2. I've ridden it twice, and both times I walked out of there with a headache. I didn't enjoy it at all. Wild Wild West is great. I offer one correction to what's already been said about this: After the backward section, you aren't turned around by a turntable. They use a U shaped section, and just bump the back of the boat into the wall, and a wheel to make the front of the boat take the lead. If you want photo's for these rides, I suggest knowing where the cameras are. Scooby Doo: First section, wear the swinging blades are. Superman: You will come through the building, over a hill, and down into a curve. The camera is toward the end of this curve Wild West Falls: Be prepared from the very start of the drop Lethal Weapon: Not too sure. Any other members help out with this one??
  14. Gondola's were installed on Batwing on Wednesday. I was in the park all day Wednesday and the as I rode SE for the final time that day, I looked down on the construction area as we went over the tophat, and I saw the gondola with seats and restraints in place
  15. I'd like to see the Matrix theme used more extensively than just a walk-through. I'd like to see maybe a simulator installed that follows "The path of the Osiris" from the third movie. You're in the giant ship and your travelling down a service pipeline, rushing to get back to Zion to raise the alarm and blow the EMP. They could have it set up so that the whole ride goes dark when the EMP gets hit.
  16. Was at Movieworld today. The top is in. Looks awesome. The batwing logo on all 4 sides around the top. Theres a giant spotlight on the roof of the control building (assumption) that is aimed at the top of the tower. The air tubes are in. The gondola is in, seats and restraints are in. Work was continuing around the base of the ride, and as we left the park there was also work happening at the very top of the tower. A new arch was being installed. It fits with the Gotham City theming. Colours appear to be Black Tower, with Grey/Dark Grey Pneumatics. A Darker Grey Gondola, with Black seats and Yellow restraints. Open by December 06 is looking good to me.
  17. Was there today. Looks awesome. Took a look down from the top of Superman and saw the carriage is grey, with yellow harnesses on the black tower. It looks to have an entrance to the right of the Batman simulator ride. Theres also a small building to the right of the tower which has a large spotlight on top
  18. Here's what I did after riding it a couple of times at watching videos to try to remember the layout. Its not the best, and theres only supports in for the first little bit, and they're not right. But have fun with this, I hope its close to real. If anyone wants to change it so that it better matches, go right ahead, I'd just like to see the finished copy! Superman.zip
  19. Hi All Just got back from a trip to QLD for the weekend, and wasnt planning on visiting the park, except that I got a discount admission token from McDonalds on Friday, so I drove down and got there about 9.20 on Saturday morning. The line was only queueing to one ticket booth, which didnt open til 9.30am. I purchased my ticket, and then went inside. There was a promo radio show going on near The Claw when I arrived (SeaFM i think it was, and there was an Indy car and the Indy girls there). I was on what I think was the second ride of the Claw for the day. Queue time was the length of the first ride, so quite impressed with that, however it wasnt 10am yet! Walked around for a while, deciding what to ride next, and chose WipeOut, simply because it was open. Queue time again was the length of the current cycle, then I was on. This was my second time riding the WipeOut, and it seemed a little more energetic than when I rode it back in March. Then after walking around waiting for it to become 10am, I went for Reptar. I'd never ridden it and was after something I could ride without too many forces on the body, my stomach was a little churned up at this point. Queue time again was incredibly short, only waiting for the current cycle to finish then I was on. After this, I headed for Cyclone, knowing the problems with queue times from reading this forum occasionally, and having been on it twice. Luckily, I walked right up to top level of queue line, only having to wait maybe two cycles before being let on. The ride was a bit rougher than when I last rode it back in March. It felt very shakey side-to-side, especially on the first turn after the main drop, and the highly banked turn before the looping elements. After this I headed for the Tower Of Terror, and walked right up to the stairs, and I was amazed. There was about 4 of us there. The ride attendant came out and told us they were having some problems, and that engineering was onto it, but were unsure of how long it would take. So I headed off to checkout the Big Brother house, that occupied a bit of time. When I returned to civilisation, I rode the Log Ride, sizeable queue line there. Then having seen the Tower Of Terror operate successfully a couple of times, I headed back over there. Queue line was back to the steps. When I got to the station, the girls who were operating the ride were really friendly and appeared to be enjoying their work. One quick ride on the Thunder River Rapids Ride, after lining up for a reasonable amount of time. I'd queued up longer for this ride in the past I ate, and then left the park, having enjoyed my day. I didn't ride Giant Drop because the queue line was not overly long, but still sizeable, and I'm not a big fan of the ride anyway. Only ride not operating besides the SkyLink was the Captain Sturt Paddle Wheeler
  20. Hi there peoples Im new to using NoLimits but Im slowly getting the hang of it I think. Id like your feedback on what I consider to be the first slightly decent track I've made. If you have constructive advice for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Ads086
  21. You should be able to get a hold of the demolition company that was contracted to remove everything. They should be able to tell you what happened to the things you are looking for. Generall things of value get sold in auctions as far as I know, so if that is the case they should be able to tell you who the auction house was and they should have records of who purchased what on the day. Hope that helps
  22. Hey guys I've only just got NoLimits, and it looks like a greatly powerful simulator. I'd be in the competition if you wanted to make one, although I wouldn't be great but I'd give it a go
  23. That sounds very similar to the pre-show for Space Probe. In my opinion, an evacuation style theme for a ride would only be good if it was a tower that used compressed air to force the gondola up the tower, rather than one where you were slowly hoisted up. I think the thing that sets disney apart from everyone else is that their theming matches the story they are trying to tell. Also, a lot of disney stories are told to children while they're growing up, so when they get to the park they know some of the stories already I think the biggest thing holding other parks back from achieving Disney level is funds. If parks had a larger budget to spend purely on theming and atmosphere, they could achieve close to Disney standards And one final thing, and this is only my opinion, so if you dont agree, please dont take offence. It has been said that no park will ever match Disney, and that Disney is above every other competitor. I personally think this is because of the perception that Disney is better than others. Whilst this may be true at the moment, if we maintain that perspective then we dont objectively judge a park against Disney because we have this pre-conception that Disney must be better. So Disney is better, at the moment, but it may not always be. Again, only my opinion, if you disagree Im sure your gonna say something, but please dont take offence as there was none intended -Adam
  24. I see your point, Big Brother was not the first reality TV show in Australia, I believe it was the first to coin the term reality TV. Anyways, thats beside the point. The point I was trying to make was that Southern Star Endemol and Network Ten have signed an agreement for two years with the option of a third. So Big Brother will exist until at least the end of the 2006 series. We know that 2005 series is going to be at Dreamworld and while they've got the format running successfully, why would they change it? So BB is here til 2006 minimum.
  25. I remember hearing something about Big Brother being at Dreamworld for at least another 2 or 3 seasons, so 05, 06 and maybe 07. While the Big Brother house is a bit of a waste of space, it brings in crowds. Big Brother was the first reality TV show in Australia and they still manage to get good ratings. Because of the popularity a large amount of people attend the eviction shows, and quite a few of them travel great distances to be there. Many I would expect would make a day of it and go to the park before the show. Re: Disneyland-Dreamworld comparison I just re-read the article and it does not say in there they are trying to be like Disneyland. All it says is the MLT is following the successful business pattern that Disney has done by creating accomodation at the park
