They could quite easily get it all done. If they brought in contractors for the lighting at the same time as they brought in the service techs for the ride, there wouldn't be a time issue. Especially if they each worked at opposite ends of the ride - service techs working on station and "castle" section, while the light tech's are in the main room working on the lasers/fog, then swap half way thru the week.

They look quite nice. No complaints about that roof

Just thinking about the proposed upgrades to effects. Last year at halloween in the walk-thru, there was a mist-wall with a video projection onto it. Perhaps this will be replacing the fog/laser effect to hide that final drop. With halloween coming up again shortly, perhaps Movieworld have purchased the equipment rather than hire it, and will install it into the Scooby ride. They have the actors and costumes to record a video to project if they so wish.

This is not meant to stir the pot, but just something I found interesting. Klassen asks for a little respect, however, to my way of thinking, he/she should be respecting the rest of us and spelling correctly. It's just simple little things like putting an E on the end of "I've". Klassen, I'm glad you're getting the Google toolbar. If you happen to use Firefox, you'll find it has a built-in spell checker. Anything showing red means it's spelled incorrectly. As far as the idea of having a roof, I think this makes a lot of sense. Most Hollywood driving stunts are performed out of sequence, as we know. They film the live action sequence, and they film the actual stunt sequence, and edit the two together, often adding CG along the way. Let's imagine the inside of the show building will be laid out in the same fashion as PASS. The backdrop would only need to be a green screen, then they could have a large LED screen hanging from the roof against the back wall with the chroma-key done (how the "Be a Hi 5 star" works). As for the exhaust fumes, wouldn't they just place sufficient vents in the roof? Or have fans on the roof in a similar fashion as road tunnels have? I also suspect that having an indoor arena means that you can ensure greater consistency between shows, and you won't have guests having to deal with the sun in their eyes (which has happened to me many times at PASS).

You could download a trial version of FRAPS - it will record anything on-screen, but the trial is limited to 30sec lots. If you have NoLimits 1.7 or 1.71, it includes an AVI recorder. You simply press the "0" button on your keypad (NOT the one above the letters) to Start/Stop the recording. Try running it in a window of the lowest size, and recording that. You'll end up with a better quality video that way.

I voted wooden (since it now appears in the poll). I, like others, would like to see a wooden coaster built down near Wild West Falls. I only ever got to go to Wonderland once, and it was my first ever park when I was 14. I got separated from my group and ended up just riding things on my own. I got to the Beastie, and loved it, and started heading toward the Bush Beast (I thought I'd do the small one first), but they'd closed the queue before I could get there. So, I'd like a wooden coaster to go on here in Australia, and I wouldn't trust Dreamworld with one.

I don't think Movieworld has actually bought that projector just yet. I know that Southbank still have the IMAX screen, and to the best of my knowledge, they received an IMAX copy of The Dark Knight (since it was apparently shot on IMAX stock). If they haven't or can't get hold of one, surely it wouldn't be that hard to get 4 digital projectors and hook them up into some kind of splicing setup, and have the giant image split up across the projectors, like they do with plasma screens on stages. re: Gremlins - never seen the movie, nor rode (ridden?) the ride. Although, from the clip on youtube, I think Scooby was a better investment

I need to change my vote - once I saw the prices I changed my mind. I was going because its a good chance to dress up in crazy costumes, and spend some time on a few rides. After last year, some friends had a few hesitations at going again. When I saw the price in my myfun email, I was inclined to agree with them. So I think instead we'll just dress up in crazy costumes and go out on the town - that works out cheaper than fuel to the Gold Coast, plus $36 entry plus dinner at McDonalds across the road, not to mention the time factor for those who have to work. $40 a single ticket to a 3hr event is ridiculous. I was looking at Cedar Point's website just the other day, and they go all out on Halloween for almost a whole month, closing sections of the park, building new areas, bridges, hiring actors to jump out from behind rocks and signs all over the park - and this gets included in a regular days entry if you go on a weekend day during Halloweekends. With their new roof, perhaps they should put big drapes to block out all the light on, and make it Halloween all day long. And seriously, what sort of an extra draw card is a maze?? You either figure it out pretty quickly, or you get insanely frustrated, either one not coming out as fun...
-
So, of those of you coming to Halloween, are you dressing up? If so, what as??
-
Pretty safe bet that Wild West Falls will be out of commission - it goes down for annual maintenance from well before the event until well after it.

I'm wondering what colour the supports are going to be, and what style. It's also interesting to see that the track doesn't have any support holes pre-drilled, so we'll see the U-bolt or clamp/bracket style attachment that Motocoaster uses. -
I was at work today and we were thinking about things we could do socially outside of work, and I remembered that Halloween was coming up soon. We went to Movieworld's Halloween event last year, got dressed up and had a really great time. So, we're keen to go again, but we don't have any info on pricing or the dates it will actually be held and such. If anyone on the boards has heard anything, can you please post it up? Thanks guys
-
The wheel itself is up, gondolas have been installed, and light up at night time. I don't have a camera or phone capable of taking photos at the moment, but should do soon. Perhaps someone else who goes near Southbank may want to take photos?

I'd be reluctant letting go of those handles at ANY time during Lethal Weapon.

Bumping a post rather than creating a new thread, since it's on a similar topic. Was mucking around today with NL and came up with a woodie. Though I'd post it up here and see what you guys all think. On the B&M thing - saw a doco on TV this past week, which showed the production process that B&M use. Laser cutting of the box-to-rail joins, and if the rail doesn't fit the box supports, the whole box gets scrapped and start again. Once they have it all welded into place, it gets taken outside and they allow the weather to get at it, and they make the steel actually rust, so that they can find the thin spots or holes, and fix them. So, for a ride opening before the end of the year, B&M would have to have started production on it late last year would be my guess. Perhaps VRTP have ordered one from B&M, and if they get approval for African Safari World they'll put it there, and they might have a backup location at Movieworld to put it in should that fail. Just a thought... -
I think the idea behind that post was that since Goldrush is supposed to represent the past times and nostalgia, perhaps the visible pieces of track should be left in place, to add to the whole theme. Perhaps put a sign on the mountain indicating that it's a dried-up gold mine, and dangerous to enter.

I think the 90 seconds is split into two parts. There's the part where they take you up 90% of the tower, and that doesn't take a great deal of time at all, perhaps 30-50 seconds. The remaining time is you being slowly pulled further up until you're in place for the release mechanism to work. Not sure why, but if you watch it closely, when the gondola appears to have stopped, it actually continues rising, but very very slowly.
-
If you want to add music to a recorded video of your ride, use Windows Movie Maker (comes with most recent editions of Windows). Import your AVI files from NL into WMM, add your song, arrange your video components and transitions and the song should play from start to finish.
-
Could have both shows operating. Police Academy for the 11:30 show, then Hollywood Stunt Driver for the 1:30
-
Thanks for the thoughts Gazza. I didn't even think of that. I know what you mean about going slowly through the loops (and I haven't ridden Motocoaster, so I didn't get that reference). It does make sense with the outside loops and how much pressure it would put on your front, but the 2 included flyers with the program, it always seemed so unnatural that you'd flip onto your back to do a loop and then flip back. But good to know for future reference.

It took quite a while. If you watch after the drop to see how long it takes for the catch car to return, that's how long it took for us to get back to the ground. It wasn't fun - every time I get on GD I wonder why I put myself through it...
-
Interesting that some of the ride ops don't know how to use it. I was on GD, and when we got to the top, one of the other riders pulled a camera out of his pocket. We thought it was just taking a really long time to reach the top when we noticed we were slowly coming back down. It would have been nice to know that's what was happening
