  1. ^Compared to GD? A couple more shots from yesterday. I noticed there's another cable/conduit thing next to the GP raceway.
  2. ^Plus it was second hand. Some have referred to it as a lemon. It sounds like it was basically closed last season because Huss sent the wrong parts. Yeah, like Gazza said, because of the hydraulic ram it can give a combination of both shots and drops, so it's more complex. It has been working really well this season. The retheme has been great, with atmospheric music, fog and good voice over. It somehow seems like the ride is shooting you higher now. Naturally, it rarely goes when the countdown reaches zero - so much more fun that way.
  3. Yeah, great day in the park. It got busy early on, especially as it was everyone's last chance to use their season pass. Even had a fast pass spare on my platinum pass that came in handy. Got onto the GP raceway without a wait and same too with Abyss, although sometimes the Fast Pass queues are out of the way and you can wait without being spotted. Had the fish and chips, which were pretty good. The restaurant has been cleared out - I wonder if it's getting made over. There were large queues for food after midday. The donut machine was broken too. The power substation looks to be almost finished. Also spotted a large reel of electrical wire around the back of the raceway. The crew member I asked only knew that the location of Mi3 is probably near where the work is being done. The area around the back of the Rampage looks pretty good for a possible location.
  4. Spent Easter Monday at Adventure World. It was about 25 degrees here and overcast, yet there was a good crowd. The service at the cabanas was really attentive and much improved over the past. Apparently, the new CEO is called Kevin Smith and has worked in hospitality (not low budget films). The substation is being built up the back of Inferno. Interestingly enough, the conduits lead to a small fenced off area behind the filters for the racing slides. I've been told the ride will be in this area. There's a nice flat bit of land behind the Rampage. The old castle island and the Cirque Extreme area are also nearby. Still no clue as to what the ride really is.
  5. Yeah, we miss the old Python Loop, which had been in WA since the mid nineties. There was a short period of time when Python Loop was competing against The Wild Mouse, which ended up at Aussie World. PL was certainly getting rough. It's layout is reportedly what the Indiana Jones coasters are based on. PL was painted a year before it was sold, but it looks to have been painted again. People in the know at the Royal Show in Perth are promising great things. We'll just have to wait and see what exactly.
  6. It was 27 degrees in Perth, today. Noticed the chair lift is only open between 11am and 2pm now. The only place I could see survey markers in the park was the old Cirque Extreme venue, but they have recently installed a sprinkler system here. There's no advertising of any future attractions.
  7. Cockburn ARC just posted this picture. Is this some kind of disco slide or what?
  8. Thank for the review, Reanimated. This sounds pretty similar to a park we have over in Perth called Caversham Wildlife Park. It offers International visitors a chance to get up close with friendly kangaroos and other marsupials. Like PC, the animal feed is free. Can confirm jjuttp's opinion of goats.
  9. Managed to pick up cheap tickets to Kalamunda Water Park on Scoopon and finally had time to head up into the hills to check it out. Yeah, this place used to be known as Wet N Wild Kalamunda back in its heyday. The only two slides left are mat ones. They are quite long, probably longer than AW's Tunnel of Terror. They are patched up, but one of them is pitch black in places. They also have piped in music. The park is quite picturesque and very old school. They have lockers at $2 a day with a $5 deposit. Signs that say 'don't bite the mats'. There were a bunch of ducks roaming around and I even spied a Bandicoot. The staff were very friendly and relaxed. Kalamunda is miles from the coast, so it's a good place for people in the hills to cool down. Apparently, it was the last weekend for the slides for the season.
  10. Abyss is great. Sure it can't handle 42 degrees, but it's still a fantastic coaster. I think the back row is smoother than the front, and that's where I usually sit. When the motor engages it has been a bit bumpy lately, but that's about it. You can re-ride Abyss, but not to the extent that you could Turbo Mountain. It's certainly not as rough as Arkham Asylum.
  11. That would be cool. Imagine a dark ride section where they simulate the boat ride. I'm sold. With that colour - that's what it should be.
  12. Quite right, @joz, you've passed the test. Thank you for taking care of the patriarchy. Of course, 4-1 is the correct ratio. It reflects the ratio of men to women on the Liberal Party's benches in our national parliament. I guess, the girls need their imagination to deal with gender imbalances in society as a whole.
  13. All I'm saying, is that's what struck me first. Of the four characters that get to do active things and use their imagination, all four are male.
  14. I think what people were talking about with regards to parkgoers using their imagination at theme parks kinda relates to the Gruen Transfer, which helps with that mindset of 'escaping from reality'. Even though our parks don't have the architecture that Disney and Universal have, there's still that fantasy feeling. With regards to the advertisement, I didn't mind the imaginative bits, even though it'd be cool to have the canoe ride. What really bugged me was the sexism - what do the girls get to do? Eat ice cream whilst the boys have great adventures?
  15. Actually got to this place last month, although its name changed to Splash City for its second season. Went there on its last day, and the place was packed. It's located in part of the parking lot for Belmont Raceway. All of the bitumen has been covered by astroturf or plastic mesh, which isn't too harsh on the feet. The food was reasonable, although there was about a ten minute wait. There were plenty of tables under cover, so you didn't get too burnt. It was very much a family and/or tweener crowd as the only ride for adults and big kids were the taller slides. There was also an inflatable maze, obstacle course, kids playground and main pool. The seven storey slides are scary because the whole tower wobbles in the breeze. The ride down is fast (50kph), but over in seconds, and is not too much of a bother. The three storey slide was probably more fun, because you had to climb up the ladder at the back too. There is a great view of Burswood from the park, especially of the new stadium. I'm sure Splash City will be on again next season. It would be nice if they made some of the rides a little more permanent.
  16. No news about any new rides at AW. It was 22 degrees in Perth, today, and the park was nice and quiet. Rides would operate even with one person on it. Whilst it was overcast, plenty of people were still swimming. Had a nice chat with the zookeeper and she said that there had been plans to divide up the kangaroos, so patrons could get closer to the females. Also, that AW had sold off their llamas/alpacas last season. You can actually see where the fence has been constructed. At the moment there are two joeys, but without the llamas, the kangaroos don't really go near the people anymore (too bad if you bought some roo food). There was about a 5-10 minute wait for Abyss, as they appeared to be running one train. Kraken and the Grand Prix were probably 10-15 minute waits. There was a school group or two, English tourists and plenty of retirees enjoying the day. The park looks pretty good at the moment, except for the guardians, which are surrounded by weeds. However, it was great to see Inferno running.
  17. I wouldn't presume that The Maze is expanding Outback Splash this winter. As much as I would love them to, I keep hearing and reading things that tell me they're not quite ready yet. It seems like their Octopus Bay expansion was quite successful and that they're planning on the return of their inflatable slide 'The Plummet'. This from last Tuesday's Facebook post. "What an awesome long weekend! @silthorne thanks for sharing this great video of The Plummet! Putting it up again next summer will be a must ?"
  18. I definitely got that feeling too (BTW for some reason Disneyland has really been advertising in Perth in the last six months). Does anyone know if Slick has been busy west of the motorway?
  19. Sorry, my bad @MaxxTheMonster, that's not the way I read it.
  20. He is Charlie Chaplin - the Tramp was the character. He won an honorary award for The Circus where he portrayed that character. Sure, it wasn't a regular Academy Award, doesn't mean you get to strip him of three Oscars.
  21. Way to strip Chaplin of three Oscars. He actually won two honorary ones and one for music score for Limelight in 1973.
  22. Yes and no. The crew members are pretty friendly and engaging, asking about your day, and if I'm carrying my carrying my camera, what kind of lens I've got. It's delaying Summer Nights and not announcing that, I'm disappointed in.
  23. No. The circus space is now free and there doesn't look to be too much activity around the old castle site.
  24. Paid a flying visit to a really packed Adventure World, today. It's 37 degrees here and both car parks were packed out. I ended up parking further down the street and walking in. It looks like @Tim Dasco was right, Summer Nights, AW's proposed new series of night events scheduled for late February/early March has been postponed until next season. They're promising some big stuff, but it's frustrating to learn from the third crew member that you ask in the park, that Summer Nights has been cancelled for this season. I mean, if I'm a platinum pass member and not entitled to tickets to Summer Nights (although I was to Fright Nights) at least follow up the promise of keeping your platinum season pass members up to date.
