Goliath - Adventure World’s new Intamin Gyro Swing
iwerks replied to Tim Dasco's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah, thanks Mark, so easy to make the change once you're on the system. Wow, expensive trees. I realise with all the roots you couldn't keep the old ones, but if you saw USS when that first started up, the trees and plants were pretty green from day one. That's the tropics, I suppose. I remember the early days of AW when the trees and shrubs were ankle height. The place is practically an oasis compared to then. Behind the scenes seemed really busy. I hope the Platinum passes are going well. Do you think you'll sell out of them? -

Made a flying visit to AW to upgrade to the Platinum pass (from a normal one last year). Took no photos for a change - plenty of time to do that in a week and a half. The main car park seems to be nearing completion. It will probably hold a bunch more cars. Whilst it was good to see some trees there, they seem pretty small in comparison to the ones they removed. It's a shame they weren't a little more developed. Freefall/Inferno doesn't appear to have been themed yet. That's just what I could see from driving past. The membership gate looks ready to go and has a little queue area inside the park. I called up beforehand to make sure they hand some platinum passes left. The process probably takes 10 minutes or so, but I was in and out in five minutes as I brought my card from last year and my details were still on the system. Parking was pretty busy in the service area, with just a couple of the visitor car parking bays free. The reception is quite small, but is neatly presented. There were cool photos of the Abyss during Fright Nights with the fireworks going off. Natalie behind the counter was very efficient. The card and the hat look to be good quality products and the fridge magnet calendar has all the dates on it. Fright Nights: 27-29 October. Summer Nights: Feb 17,18, 24, 25 Mar 3,4. Good Friday Event: April 14. The package also includes a letter detailing all of the platinum pass member benefits. Of note: Member's only entrance will be open every day from 10-11am and from 9.45am on Boxing Day until the end of Jan. I'm looking forward to using all the benefits like the 50% off for friends, 2 fast passes, the free entry to Fright Nights and the 40% off Cabana hire. It's interesting that as a member, you can now purchase your discounted friends tickets online. That's cool. -

Just saw another Facebook post advertising Inferno's 52 storey view. @Mark Shaw is this intentional? -
Thanks Tim, I shared your post so maybe they'll blame it on you! ? These photos from last week.

Yeah, that was when they introduced Rampage and Power Surge - definitely not my cup of tea. Turbo Mountain was cool. ? -

Yes, Ardent Leisure owned it for a while in the 90s. -
For us in Perth, the Claremont Quarter would be a little bit like that.

Yeah, Michael Edgley, the original developer was more into building things and selling them off. I don't think expansion would have been on his mind. Looks like he's seen better days. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/bankrupt-showbiz-mogul-michael-edgley-owes-7-million-dollars/story-e6freuy9-1226097098518 -

I still think they have enough park to use, already. If they were going to expand and buy more land they should have probably done that in the 1980s when there was nothing there. I'd still like to see them cover the staples - flume ride/family roller coaster. Even a basic dark ride or simulator (permanent and not portable) would be good. Something that gives people an excuse to visit during inclement weather. -

Thanks for the great shots TPN. It's good of you to go to the parks on such a regular basis and take all the photos. With regards to the focus, you could have left the first shot out or you could have adjusted your camera (simply by panning right slightly or adjusting the little focus box) in order to get that shot in focus whilst staying in automatic. But I understand shots are often taken on the fly and that sometimes you might not nessarily bring your DSLR to the park. I look forward to Alex's next update. ? The area looks great. I wonder how much interactivity it's going to have. -

Just trying to work out which thread is most appropriate for the 2016/17 season. Saw this in an email from AW about Inferno and trying to work out what it means: "We are also excited to relaunch Free Fall as INFERNO. Feel the burn as you plummet 52 stories at 1.2Gs." Now you can't tell me the ride is 52 storeys high as the Giant Drop is 40 storeys. From what I've read Freefall was 52 metres tall. From the spelling of stories they could be referring to some backstory to the ride, but I doubt it. Any thoughts? -

Yeah, it would have been nice to get something compatible, like the simulation Centre, in there. They're actually moving, but I think in the other direction. Their expansion plans seem quite interesting. They were talking about getting VR in the future as well as those huge scaletrix tracks. Currently they have sports simulators and a little 9D cinema. Imagine if there was a hotel in the vicinity. I think the closest is Fremantle at the moment. -

It would be nice if they could create a tourist precinct or do something that would tie in with AW on that location. I think it's cool how they built the ice rink to the south of AW. If they could construct a cinema complex or a group of restaurants, that would be really nice. -
$270m Ratatouille ride at Disneyland Paris
iwerks replied to Adam C's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I wouldn't wait more than 15 minutes. In fact, if it has a delayed start of 11am, start queuing around 10.45 and be one of the first to get on the track, otherwise be a fast pass hog and annoy Adam. ?- 17 replies

Wooden rollercoaster, definitely what I had in mind. It's a nice bit of space. I think gone are the days when the GP racers used to be the E ticket attraction. I think one of its problems is that it's such a slow loader considering its popularity. Do I still ride it? Sure, but only on the quieter days, especially when you consider they've pushed back its start time.- 17 replies

When you look at Sentosa, a casino and a theme park can work in close proximity to each other. Sea World could even get its own downtown area/city walk. On Sentosa they did away with their previous generation monorail that used to go around the island and replaced it with a more modern urban transit type of vehicle. I could see this being the more likely option as there just aren't enough trains with the SW monorail the way it is.

This, according to an ad for an operations manager by The Maze, is their current schedule. "In 2013 the Park launched the Outback Splash waterslide playground, with additional water attractions due to launch in September and December of 2016."

I'd like to congrats Theme Parks WA on reaching 112 likes over one weekend. https://www.facebook.com/themeparksWA/ They also found this interesting website: https://www.facebook.com/creativeworks.com.au/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE It has Creative Works' repainting of AW theming, including a certain former pirate ship. -

Yes, the early bird season pass deal often, but not always, ends at the start of the season. It can save you a few dollars, so it's worth getting. AW opens again in three weeks, so if you want to get your season pass delivered by then act soon. In the meantime, you can use your receipt to gain entry. -
And Sydney's WetnWild is not.
-
Sorry @joz, it's definitely a case of what they probably will do versus what we'd like them to do. So, is the article implying that the funding for the expansion is coming from this deal as opposed to VRTP's Capex budget?
-
Yup, still swearing. Can we not be 10? If they did expand across the road, they could extend the monorail to the other part of the park (Push would like that). Maybe when they say expansion, they meant double the number of attractions or something. Like Joz, I just think they should make better use of the land they already have.

Yes, because I want to find out all the news in a state I don't even live in!?!? I can read it - thought I would post it for those people who don't have a copy in front of them and don't live in the wonderful state of Queensland, where you have to pay for your articles. Thanks for swearing, btw.
