  1. A suspended dark ride like ET, Peter Pan or even the Sesame Street Ride at USS would be good for making use of the height of this building. Adventure World has a fair few examples of the smaller Zamperla rides. I think you would have to choose ones big enough to cater for the 8-12 year olds that tend to get overlooked by Movie World.
  2. Was Buzzsaw on the list? That's a great result for Abyss - well deserved too. Most of the votes must have come from this forum. Perhaps next year we'll all get a chance to ride Australia's new coasters.
  3. Both 'Dejiki' and 'Luke and the Temple of Fun' have visited USS recently. They've reported on the new Minion Mart and the Easter Celebrations happening around the park this weekend. Good to see that they are not using chocolate Easter Eggs in their hunt - which would last about two minutes under the Singapore sun. The creepy Egg lord on the other hand... http://lukeandthetempleoffun.blogspot.com.au/2014/04/minion-mart-universal-studios-singapore.html http://dejiki.com/2014/04/uss-easter-special-event-2014-egg-island-egg-hunt/
  4. Crazy promotion time at Adventure World continues.. https://www.facebook.com/AdventureWorldOfficialPage There's the grand parent challenge for the Abyss. The Season Pass holder survey to win a Season Pass for next year. And the selfie competition for the extended season.
  5. Yeah, I thought the USS version of the Mummy Ride was pretty short, but apparently it is way better than the USH version as it had to fit in the place where the ET ride used to be. I think USS's roof of fire (BBQ grill) thing is a bit weak, otherwise it's a pretty good edition. I can't see how they could have changed it much. Apparently USH has also just altered its Waterworld show so it's more like the USS version too. I didn't even know there was a difference. http://www.screamscape.com/html/universal_studios_hollywood.htm
  6. Great weather in Perth this weekend - 32/33 degrees. Went to AW yesterday - looked to be a couple of thousand people there as the school holidays have just begun. The waits were pretty short for most rides. Reckless Loony was right - Freefall was just doing shots and not drops. The chairlift is not currently in operation. The smoke effects on Abyss are back. I didn't notice them until I was on the ride. Cool thing about Abyss' on-ride photography is that they can record what number photo you were in on your armband and they don't charge you anything unless you purchase a picture.
  7. It looks like Outback Splash is extending its season until June 2 (WA's foundation day) as well! It's open every day of the school holidays and Wed-Sat after that. They are boasting heated waterslides, apparently (plus they get to charge $10 more for entry). http://themaze.com.au/opening-hours/#!prettyPhoto
  8. I'm not too impressed with what I've seen of the Minions Mayhem thing either. It has a ride system? Is it like Back to the Future or The Simpsons ride? Perhaps, they're going to revert back to their Kung Fu Panda idea. The character's always a big hit in the park. I didn't know they still had the rights to Star Trek. Loved the show they used to have at USH. Maybe it will be Harry Potter..
  9. Cool - great timing. The Despicable Me Ride is reportedly being built on the far side of Donkey Live! Look out for the streetscape of Gru's house, if it's going to be anything like the Hollywood version. BSG has been boarded up for a while. Hopefully they will re-theme them the same way they did the dueling coasters at IOA. I presume you've been there before. Enjoy the Transformers Ride.
  10. Having read some other articles, it's starting to sound like a re-theme. They're saying that people can't relate to Battlestar Galactica because they can't remember the show - not because they are intimidated by the size of the ride. Apparently the Human side did stall out in July last year - presumably they have got that fixed. http://news.omy.sg/News/Local-News/Battlestar-Galactica-may-have-heard-its-last-whoop-251876 http://dejiki.com/2013/07/uss-update-jul13/
  11. Bumping a really old thread.. It looks like it might be the end of the BSG dueling coasters. I hope this isn't true. They were a great set of coasters (and must have cost a fortune to construct). I find it hard to believe that they could pull that down and build something else by the end of the year. They probably have this confused with the building that is taking place at the other end of the park, rumoured to be the Singaporean version of the Despicable Me ride. http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/battlestar-galactica-ride-may-get-scrapped-20140403
  12. More local coverage with dodgy mobile phone video to match. Apparently part of the cable came off and the ride shut itself down. They threw up lollies and water to the kids stuck on the ride. It would have been interesting to see them try and rescue people from above the pool. The local ABC News also mentioned that the Abyss and Freefall have suffered break downs from time to time. I've also seen kids stuck in the Power Surge harnesses and the brakes fail on Bounty's Revenge (back in the 90s) - the momentum goes on for ever. http://www.bunburymail.com.au/story/2186637/video-bunbury-and-harvey-boys-rescued-from-broken-adventure-world-chair-lift/ http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-30/stranded-chairlift-passengers-rescued-at-perth-amusement-park/5354962?&section=news
  13. Bit like the ones they make you sign before the tiger walk at Dreamworld? I hope they get everything sorted out before it comes to that. Goodluck Mr Sicerich, wherever you are..
  14. Yeah, the $12 million figure is being quoted everywhere. Did they have to pull it down from El Caballo Blanco (one hour east of Perth) themselves? Also means that the skylift would be the most expensive thing the park ever bought because we are presumably talking about 1990s' dollars. Here's the latest on the fallout from Sunday. http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/adventure-world-at-odds-with-parents-over-stranded-children-20140331-35twd.html It seems some parents are up in arms. Despite the fact that the park is doing its best, they want more. There are a lot of disclaimers at the main gate that usually covers the park for any incidents or accidents. From what I can remember the car park entrance doesn't cover all of that detail. The Wikipedia page for Adventure World now names the owner as Steve Sicerich and states that the season runs from September until June.
  15. Thanks. That's good - now they can fix the chair lift. Twenty people were stuck for up to three hours this afternoon. http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/visitors-trapped-on-adventure-world-sky-lift-20140330-35rk5.html
  16. I think with Adventure World you've got to think about how much flat space they have there. They put the Freefall up there when they removed Turbo Mountain. It would be great if they worked on its theming after the success of Abyss. The shotgun as well as the Aqua 6 Racer things got put in the place where the little monorail and luge used to be. I think the space behind the Shotgun would be great for a Superbowl or a log ride. I overheard that Freefall was out of commission at one of the shops. When I looked over at the tower you could see that the entire top section had been removed to get access to the rope drive system. Maybe those in the know, technical-wise, could tell us what this means. It's a great looking coaster. They've even put in some more scary-looking trees since these pics. It's an awesome ride, better than your traditional wild mouse or stock standard looping coaster.
  17. Went back to Adventure World yesterday. It was a great day, 31 degrees, fine and sunny. The park was busy, but not too crowded. Here's what I learnt: They're still opening the car park gate for those who pre-pay and have season passes. It was open around 15 minutes before the main gate, allowing you to get a locker and to get to the front of whatever queue you wanted. Abyss was a walk on for the back row for the first half hour (with a 15 minute wait for the rest of the day). There's an extra screen at the bottom of the queue line and a lot of water in the misting fans at the top. The TV screens seem to be playing the TV advertisement for the ride. The track look a little greyer than it did before and there's still no sign of the mist/smoke effects that the ride opened with. The ride ops are still doing a great job. The on-ride photos are $15.90 for the first one, but only a couple of dollars more if you want it emailed to you or put on your Facebook page. You need to leave the ride and head to the Sub Zero store pretty quickly after exiting the ride to see your picture on one of the two large displays. Great service at the shops and cafes. They certainly know how to take care of the season pass holders. Two of the three times I bought things, they spotted my season pass band and gave me the 20% off. 20% off is not bad when you're looking at theme park prices. Most attractions didn't have a wait longer than 20 minutes. Went on the go-karts for the first time in ages. Their height limit is quite high if kids want to drive due to the fact that you need fairly long legs to reach the pedals. The ride ops were once again on top of their game, dishing out helmets and instructing the riders on what to do. The karts are clean, but sooo slow. The new track was very smooth. Needless to say I saw plenty of people stalling, crashing and parking badly (Perth drivers!). The Freefall looks like it might be out of action for quite some time. The entire top part had been taken off and lowered to the ground. I hope they get it back in operation before the next school holidays, but I wouldn't bet on it. Adventure World hires a lot of backpackers and migrant workers. There were a couple of great ones operating the chair lift yesterday. I also saw that the chairlift ops have to do litter duty as well - that must suck. The Castle has been cleaned up a little, but is still standing in in its burnt out state. The paddle boats have opened up again, albeit in a limited part of the lake. The Wildlife Experience was an 'experience'. I always wondered why they have that high pool fencing around the animals, especially when you can buy kangaroo food to feed the roos. After witnessing what would be best called a 'Coat of Arms' fight, I see why. I must say I was impressed with the Alpacas or 'Allamas' or whatever they are - not only are they cool animals, but they also tried to stop the fight. Just on a side note: Lots of planes were flying overhead yesterday, most of them from the nearby Jandakot Airport. I also noticed a large government, T-tailed, four-engined jet fly overhead at one stage. Turns out it was probably one of the Chinese Il-76s that landed at Perth Airport yesterday. Good luck to all those searching for MH 370 in the Indian Ocean.
  18. I think their balance is a little off. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Warner Brothers Cartoon World.
  19. Movie World should get some mini-cars like the ones in the autopia back in 1955 - especially with that kid driving - ouch!
  20. Apparently. The Adventure World Facebook page is raging about the Our Worlds site. https://www.facebook.com/AdventureWorldOfficialPage This article was from the last Sunday Times. I presume the 77% increase is from before Kahuna Falls and the Dragon Kingdom expansion.
  21. Rick's @ Movie World usually offers good value and a great place to eat away from the crowds when I've been there. Adventure World in Perth has really lifted their game. They have some great quiches and baguettes as well as a good selection of beers and ciders if you want a drink . A friend of mine was really surprised that the chicken burger actually had a real piece of chicken in it! Loui's or that Jurassic Park place at Universal Studios Singapore are usually pretty reliable. Do not get the churros in the park. Singapore's other parks (the zoo, the bird park) used to have really good places to eat before Bongo Burgers took over. There are a couple of little stalls left where you can get a decent local or Indian dish there. I think it's really important for parks to have good quality food without too much of a wait. It's all a part of the experience and it sucks when all you can get is some bad hot dog (although the Perth Zoo does a nice little sausage sizzle). Nothing compares to EPCOT for choice or quality.
  22. According to Adventure World's Facebook Page they are extending their season over the May weekends into June. https://www.facebook.com/AdventureWorldOfficialPage They also had a poll as to what people would like next: a 'wet' or a 'dry' ride. Apparently 'wet' won. Will Adventure World get a 'Tornado' or a 'Super Bowl' to combat Outback Splash?
  23. Fair enough. There are plenty of companies that make transportation systems for dark rides, like Mack. They could always get Sally Corp back. I just don't want a ride where some kid is rubber neckin' my car all of the way. I'd prefer Mr Toad's Wild Ride to a so-called 'autopia'.
  24. Too True. And if they do the 'mini cars' ride it should be a family ride and not a kiddie ride. It should be more like 'The Indiana Jones Adventure' with a few thrills and enough appeal (and seating space) for adults, than a kiddie convoy thing.
  25. I think you just hit the nail on the head. I actually preferred Movie World in the late nineties as it was more of a whole day park - now it's down to half a day or two hours if you're going with family members who don't like roller coasters. It sucks that in the past you could have queued for 15 minutes and seen a show that went from 30-45 minutes as opposed to queuing for an hour and riding a coaster that goes for about two minutes. If you mean build another stage show behind where Maverick was, I agree. In the mid-nineties USH had about six stage shows, five of which were worth seeing. If they could get the rights to The Lone Ranger, which made $0 in the US and did okay overseas, I feel they would be on the right mix of humour and action. It's not like a theme park has ever made a great stage show out of a dud before *cough* Waterworld *cough*. And getting back to topic - I feel the Wild Attraction should include some element of Jungle Cruise or Singapore River Safari cruise boat ride.
