  1. Yeah, credit where credit is due. That old photo was taken in 1982 just before the park opened. Boans, our local department store before the evil empire that is Myer took over, treated their staff to a visit to Adventure World. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.505068999564159.1073741848.483374281733631&type=3 I love how much greener the park is now, however I did appreciate the original alpine look of the buildings. I first visited the park in 1984, so it was a bit greener then, but the trees and shrubs were still pretty small. And if anyone has a clip of that 1980s ad, 'Adventure World - they made it just for fun' please post it. Lost Perth is another great site for pics of early Perth theme parks. There was a great one of 'Atlantis', our former marine life park, posted just five hours ago. https://www.facebook.com/LostPerth Another thing not a lot of people know is that Adventure World's tram ride started from underneath the main entry way to the park. The original tractor 'The San Miguel Express' that pulled the tram now lives in Adventure World's scrapyard at the back of the park, just over the fence from the trees with little homes in them.
  2. Hi praise, indeed, and so true. The park has changed so much since the old days.
  3. It's very possible AW could get a Kraken - I think there are definite pros and cons to this. It'll fit a lot of people, but it won't be as different as having a bowl (and Perth is crying out for one). I think they should reinstall the little monorail that they used to have - it's going to be a long way from the bottom to the top. People who don't like racer type rides aren't going to be happy about another attraction they won't use. Do you think the stakes marked out on the ground actually stand for anything (like where infrastructure is going) or is it more to do with elevation?
  4. Anyone reading Marcel's trip to Australia on TPR at the moment? Always interesting to get an outsider's perspectives on our parks. I wonder how long it will be before TPR visits our shores again. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69902
  5. It would certainly be interesting to get other CEOs on here. Their points of view are always valuable (thanks Mark!). It does make me wonder how many read the threads. It certainly seems like Dreamworld is responding to gripes and suggestions made here and on other social media.
  6. ^ It still refers to a water park in Perth (sort of), although the original title should be renamed to 'Outback Splash planned for Perth' if we want to be technically correct.
  7. I would rather a coaster be themed to the old Blue Lagoon area - haunted amusement park ride, anyone? Or have they done that already with the Cyclone?
  8. Good point, Richard. Plus Adventure World's large pool and Kahuna Falls can be freezing at the best of times. The park does tend to get a lot quieter when it drops below 27 and practically empty when it gets to around 20. On the other hand, it was 39 degrees the other weekend and this happens.. at the end of February!
  9. The temperature should drop to around 27 degrees on Saturday. The maximums have pretty much been in the 30s for the last couple of weeks.
  10. We've had some crazy warm weather of late - it might explain why Adventure World has been so jammed packed full of people. I know it's the wrong thread - but what's happening, Mark? Are your attendance numbers sky high or is it just my imagination?
  11. Not great news at the moment. Dejiki thinks that the opening and/or reopening of the coasters in question will be in the second quarter and that the pace of testing seems to have slowed.. http://dejiki.com/2015/03/uss-update-2015mar/
  12. The ride was very blink and you'll miss it. However, it was fast and the clearances are what made it exciting.
  13. Sounds like you got it sorted, grrofunger. Welcome back Reckless Loony - we've missed you. Indeed the blue mats are identical to those used in the Proslide racers. I don't believe it. If this is the truth Gazza has almost done it again. From the Water Park for Perth thread:
  14. Wow.. now that's a quote that they should put on their advertising. It is amazing how much they have turned that park around. Care to elaborate on how it compares to other parks?
  15. Kahuna Falls at Adventure World cost $3.5 million, reportedly. Outback Splash's total budget is going to be $70 million. It's first stage, four main slides and a tipping bucket, cost $1.5 million. Are prices a whole lot cheaper over east?
  16. Surely $1.6 million only gets you a water playground.. not all the rest.
  17. Better enter the competition that will probably precede the ride.. tell a tall sea tale perhaps? Find Davy Jones' locker?
  18. Dang fireworks shows - haven't they destroyed enough castles already?!
  19. Weirdly enough, Proslide already make racers called Kraken and Octopus. http://www.proslide.com/rides/krakenracer/ Hopefully, they'll make a Kraken animal like the one in the clip for the Tornado 60 above (except less horse-like). Kraken is also a cool name, like Abyss. It conjures up all sorts of ideas.
  20. ^ Could well be. Nice reaction, Mark. No clues? Does that mean The Shotgun becomes The Musket Barrel? The Harpoon? Twisty Tentacles?
  21. Great idea, Gazza. Perhaps, they're already thinking along that path. Might explain all the different sea creatures.
  22. That's fair enough. Yeah, crazy busy today too. I can see why you were distracted. Thanks for telling me it was there - didn't have to look too hard to find it.
  23. Sorry Mark, I had the breakfast option. Very tasty. Just came back from a quick trip to AW. Yeah, that's not a snake Grrofunger, more like a crocodile, squid or some seafaring creature. I think you also forget to mention the Batavia-style sailing ship in the picture as well. The path for the new attraction is more clearly marked out. It starts by the lookout area (CP4-2 and CP4-3?) seems to go down the hill, before veering to the left of a large rocky outcrop. My guess is that it ends up near the toilets by the base of the Shotgun. It could possibly go to the old castle site, which has been cleaned up a little, but I doubt it. I couldn't see any markers there. The park was still really packed out with people parking anywhere up and down Progress Drive. The queue for the Season Pass holders was pretty long, until one of the young 'front of house' girls said we could use the online ticket entrance if we weren't cashing in our 50% off deal. The rest of the staff were also really friendly, saying 'hi' even when I was walking around the park. It was good to see all the guys on the Grand Prix tracks with whistles to get the cars moving, although I think everyone's favourite cool dude was operating the bumper boats this morning. The Black Widow was down for repairs; Freefall was operational. Love the speed camera sign on Yarli's Safaris and the Pirate Guy by Bounty's Revenge too. When I was in the queue to get my coffee, one of the mums in the line couldn't believe how good the food selection is now. She had remembered how bad it used to be and had already brought her family's food into the park. And in important news, Bluey the wombat had just had his sand pit made up and was going great guns. So, congrats Mark on a crazily successful weekend and I look forward to Adventure World's first multi-storey carpark.
