  1. I certainly wouldn't expect every ride operator to know first aid, and I doubt that's the case at any theme park. As Alex said, that's why all parks I know (including Dreamworld) have dedicated first aiders (and sometimes even nurses), as well as security officers who are also qualified first aiders. All ride operators need to know is how to identify straight away there is a safety issue, and how to very quickly shut down the ride, and call the above mentioned people for assistance.
  2. If I were any such new operator, I really think I'd have to give the park a new name, and a massive investment to really get away from the negative perceptions of how things were in the past. I haven't got a name in mind at the moment, but I do think that's what is needed.
  3. Not very much substantial new information but here's todays Courier Mail update.
  4. According to the Courier Mail article I posted above, only the "scum lines" gave a rough visual indication of the water level to the operator. Pretty pathetic considering how critical it was to the safety of guests.
  5. As is the fact that numerous warnings were ignored from previous safety audits, and previous incidents. Totally unacceptable.
  6. Yes it is. I'm not the person who'll call it anyway. I'm just merely giving my initial response to the comments I've read in this thread!
  7. Actually some accidents are completely unforeseeable. In such cases, that's actually when it really is an accident (nobodys fault). However some of the comments in this thread would indicate circumstances which definitely were foreseeable, and actions that definitely should have been taken (but apparently weren't. If that's the case it's not an accident at all, but a preventable tragedy which wasn't prevented.
  8. Some pretty shocking comments being made so far by the sound of it. Seriously, there is NO excuse for any organisation not taking all the reasonable steps they can to prevent incidents which could put people in serious danger. That's definitely well and truly covered by Work Health & Safety Legislation though. If that turns out to have been breached in any way (and it might well have been numerous times by the sound of the above) Ardent is going to be in very serious trouble, and rightly so.
  9. I'd have expected that there had to be 2 emergency stop buttons, both of which completely and quickly stopped the whole ride. They should be placed well apart, and if there's 2 operators each should have fast, easy access to at least 1 of the buttons. Oh, and most definitely no operator should EVER be discouraged from using the emergency stop button, provided they honestly believe there is a reason to do so (having been trained on these reasons prior to being allowed to operate the ride).
  10. I'll attempt to contain my excitement. Sorry, what was that new "attraction" again? I'm having a bit of difficulty concentrating!
  11. My comment above obviously only applies if the projection mapping is working perfectly. Given Villages record on maintenance of theming, I have my reservations, but we'll see.
  12. From what I've seen of projection mapping, there aren't any screens involved at all. It could potentially be virtually impossible to tell the difference between the projected effects and physical theming.
  13. Wow. So much effort for such little achievement. How sad.
  14. I'm glad I'm not imagining how poor most Queensland drivers are. Often think being a traffic cop would be the easiest job on Earth!
  15. Jeez! I would say "that's ok as long as they will announce the major new attraction to replace it before it closes, and start construction immediately after it closes", but come on. This is Dreamworld we'r talking about here! I'll assume it's staying for now. I've always been an optimist!
  16. They should learn the meaning of "Theme Park" and "Tourist Attraction". Doesn't sound like something that should be beyond the grasp of a journalist!
  17. It'll be a completely different show since then so it certainly is!
  18. Extra 10% discount until end of June on Groupon. Code PARK10. That enables you to get a ticket to AOS from about $62.
  19. I do recall the "Get out" guy used to look like he wasn't just on a TV screen so I can imagine how that was a Peppers Ghost. I think the two guys at the top of the first lift hill might still be maybe?
