  1. The thread title is "Wishful thinking..."! I have a good understanding of business financials, but in this forum that's not what I'm interested in. I have more than enough of that sort of stuff at work. I visit forums like this one just to share my thoughts, whether they're likely or not!
  2. Yeah, but these days you can go to 7D cinemas or experience VR such as on Arkham Asylum, and we've even got access to Holographic experiences at Southport! To stand out as something special now, a theme park would need to once again take it to the next level in some way.
  3. Possibly. I did go to the IMAX at Dreamworld once the very first time I ever visited there, in 1988. However I don't really remember anything much about it except that the screen was big. Isn't it still the same screen now though? If so then not much has really changed except that it's not called IMAX anymore, and they're showing Dreamworks short films instead of IMAX films. As I said though I don't remember it much. Was there something else particularly special about it when it was IMAX? On the topic of cinema, I have been to one very interesting cinema at Disneyland California. That was also in 1988. It was in a sort of round marquee, and the video was projected now onto a flat screen, but all over the walls and roof of the marquee. I can't recall what it was about, but the experience of being about to look all around you and see the video was something unique at the time. These days that's perhaps been superseded by 7D cinema, and Virtual Reality. It was basically a forerunner to VR. However the Simpsons ride at Universal Studios Hollywood is a more recent example of what can be done with a different take on the cinematic experience, combined with a ride. I'm not saying Dreamworld should have a Simpsons ride (although I'd love that) as apparently they wouldn't be able to get the license for it. However a ride of a similar nature could be fantastic.
  4. Not a cheaper option, but (and I know some people here will groan at this idea) I really think they should find ways to differentiate themselves from Movie World. Offer something different. Not everyone likes rollercoasters all that much. Invest in experiences which will take guests into DREAMS. Honestly that is what I hoped to find when I went to Dreamworld the very first time, and I was very very disappointed when I found most of the rides are just basically fairground rides. Now to their credit they have one such experience now in Kevill Hill. That is very good. However they need more. At least one world class dark ride would be an outstanding investment which would attract families and theme park lovers who don't necessarily like being thrown up and down or spun around all that much!
  5. What's shown on the screen? It makes perfect sense to have the big screen at Movie World, but I'm really not too sure about this much smaller one at Sea World.
  6. OK. Maybe then. As far as I can tell though it isn't a Warner Bros. movie. Anyway this should be in the other thread really
  7. I would have thought it should be impossible to "fall" into the water unless you removed your harness and moved around the boat while it was moving. If that's what happened then it's the fault of the girl/ her parents. At least it's not the same as the Dreamworld incident as no ride fault occurred. Obviously still horrible but I hope it doesn't cause the ride to shut down.
  8. I have no idea what Bladerunner is, but it looks like a strong possibility given those colours, and it would also be a suitable name for the ride. I think that's it!
  9. Not as well themed as some international waterparks, but a bit.
  10. These changes, along with the $35 for 35 day passes they did recently, all smack of desperation. I understand why given the reports on the drop in numbers, but I don't think their strategy is right at all. Time to sell to new owners who will show the parks (both of them) more respect!
  11. Until a few months ago, Whitewater World had its own website, and to get between Dreamworld and WWW you had to show your ticket or pass. I completely agree it should still have its own identity, and I am finding it hard to understand why they've made this change. However I disagree that it is better than Wet & Wild. For one thing it has no lazy river. It also has fewer slides and it's just smaller and not as well themed. Nevertheless, it is still a fantastic waterpark which deserves much more respect from its owners!
  12. I am pretty sure the track wouldn't have been painted when the Dreamworld incident occurred. Had Movie World wanted to change the theme then (or anytime in the couple of months since then) they could have changed the colours before painting even began.
  13. I agree with everything Theme Park Girl has said. However I really don't think Songcheng is the right company to take over, and if they're not already doing so, Ardent should be actively seeking a new owner which is a suitable and cashed-up experienced theme park operator. I would add that once a new owner takes over, the first thing they should do in my opinion is to change the name from Dreamworld to something else. I don't have a specific new name in mind at this stage. I just think the current name is poisoned in the minds of the public now and a new owner giving the park a new name is a necessary first step in giving the park new life. Obviously it would need to be followed up with major capital investment in new rides and other attractions. Discounted tickets are not the way to go, especially when they're already so cheap!
  14. I could fetch it even further I suppose. Maybe the reason they haven't announced the ride yet is that they aren't actually going to open it at all, and the current track being built is just a distraction from what they're really doing. In reality, they're building a completely new theme park underground, below Movie World. It will open in 2050, and will be as big as the entire Gold Coast! Nope? Ok. I can't do this anymore tonight!
  15. No joke. They might as well do this at the same time as they're converting Movie World into Sea World, and Sea World into Disneyland over the next 12 months. It just makes perfect sense.
  16. It's a simple matter of replacing the track with a different type of track, constructing a building around it, installing some animatronics and other themeing, and Bob's your aunty Mable! Of course the opening date will still be September, but not this year. 2018 is more likely!
  17. Is it too far fetched to think it will be transformed from a hypercoaster into a Pirates of the Caribbean dark ride prior to opening?
  18. Todays update with completed loop. and the next track piece being moved from the compound onto the coaster site.
  19. I do get a 20% discount on AOS tickets. However it's always cheaper than that to get them through Groupon, and at the moment you can buy tickets at Movie World or Sea World for $69 anyway, which is the same price Groupon usually offer. Yep. I'm a very experienced AOS guest. Love it (although in my opinion the current show is a bit disjointed and missing some important elements from the previous show). Still love it though. I also get 1 free entry to each of the theme park night events. For those reasons I intend to keep my membership at this stage. I also like that I have a plastic card and not a paper one. It's just more durable!
