Unfortunately, there are already numerous losers moaning on the SW Facebook page. Things that imply that somehow this relatively minor incident is a good reason not to have any marine animals at Sea World! Also people insisting that Sea World should evacuate all the marine animals in such a situation. Seriously??? I don't use this phrase often, but they really need to get a life!

'World Best' Attraction coming to VRTP

Movie World has tons of space that it's currently not using, or underutilising. It's just a matter of making better use of the space they have. Maybe it could be Jurassic World themed. -
'World Best' Attraction coming to VRTP
pushbutton replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
On the face of it this is great news. I just hope they remember that it is Movie World, and therefore whatever this attraction is needs to have a very real and solid, and most importantly relevant and appealing MOVIE theme! If it's something that just spins you around I won't be going on it as I get motion sickness. If it's something that just flips you upside down, I will probably try it, and if I find it a thrill I will go on it from time to time, like I do with Arkam Asylum. But apart from a bit of a thrill I don't get much out of it after the first time. I really hope they do us proud and come up with a genuine movie themed attraction. As regular readers of this forum already know, I would only be really excited if it's either a dark ride, or a walk-through. Out of curiosity, where did the information about this originally come from? -
Wanda Group to build theme park on Gold Coast?
pushbutton replied to DJKostya's topic in Theme Park Discussion
True, but all plans that DO happen have to start at this stage, and this is one that sounds very hopeful so far to me (or am I being too positive?) -
It will certainly get me there more often.

Wanda Group to build theme park on Gold Coast?
pushbutton replied to DJKostya's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The Gold Coast (and its theme parks) may not compare very well to some other major tourist destinations globally. However I doubt you could get annual passes for those other parks at the low prices we enjoy here, or that you could visit so many parks so easily and cheaply elsewhere. There's pros and cons certainly, but I have visited a lot of places in the world, and overall the Gold Coast is (to me at least) the best place in the world to live if you love theme parks! That said, there are better places if you're just going to have a holiday and you want theme parks to be a part of that holiday. But it's the best place to live. -

No offense Richard, but that sounds like an "Adelaide" type of statement, and it was true there which is why I left! In Queensland, big ambitious plans (including theme parks) very obviously DO happen. You only need to take a look / drive around to see that. It's AWESOME here!!! For these reasons, I am cautiously optimistic about this, although I agree it's unlikely to happen soon. It would take several years of planning and approvals first. -

The developer is certainly not short of a quid! I doubt they'd object too strongly to spending a bit on infrastructure. -
Wanda Group to build theme park on Gold Coast?

Fair point, but theme parks NEED the crowds to remain profitable. As I said earlier though, I'm sure nobody would invest $1b if they hadn't made certain it was going to be viable, so I'm sure that either it won't get built, or it will get built and all the parks will remain viable. -

I was just about to post this too. I do worry slightly that the theme park market may have already reached saturation level in the Gold Coast, but I'm sure nobody would waste a billion dollars if they were not absolutely certain it would be a worthwhile investment. If it happens, fantastic. I would like to think any new park would focus on themed experiences rather than more thrill rides. It's certainly where there's something of a gap in the current offering. -

Seaworlds New Kids Area Announced
pushbutton replied to Cooper Olsen's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think the parks should leave the catering to those who know what they're doing in that type of business. Contract it all out to established and proven fast food and restaurant companies, with a condition in their contracts that their prices in the parks cannot be higher than their prices at their other stores. -
I can see no reason why the pylons and the cable (and obviously the stations) wouldn't support a modern chairlift system. Sadly Sea World say they have no such plans.

Seaworlds New Kids Area Announced

In my experience too. For the quality of the meals I'd be willing to pay $12 MAX, and as a member I'd expect a discount on that, so realistically I'd be happy to pay $9 to $10 tops. Since it's not, I simply don't eat at the parks (although I have on a few occasions, which is how I know what the quality is) -
Seaworlds New Kids Area Announced

Does anyone know what the other rollercoaster (featured in that big mural photo on the wall) was? Overall, I don't mind the new decor having seen it today, and I'm pleased they've not only kept some historical photos that were there previously, but also added the big mural on the wall too. However, the menu is the same as before (with the possible addition of Beef Rib Eye (so long as you don't mind it with mushroom sauce, which I hate). Minimum $20 for even something as basic as a burger or fish & chips. Too expensive for one person. Absolutely insane prices for families. No new, affordable and tempting meals. -
All still intact this morning, but gondolas removed as they have been for weeks.
-
The Dreamworld chairlifts STILL haven't been completely removed, and they closed long ago!
-
There also used to be 3 monorails a few years ago. Now there's just two and they no longer have a recording playing inside to entertain and inform guests while they ride.
-
I agree. The thing is that they had BOTH chairlifts AND monorails. It wasn't a choice of one or the other. There was also a train not so long ago. Now just the monorail, so a very definite downgrade. Alton Towers is one example I know of where they invested in modern chairlifts (far more substantial than Sea Worlds) relatively recently. They also have an incredible monorail system with numerous trains in use. I can't help but wonder if maybe the Green Lantern incident has triggered a safety review of other rides. I can imagine someone thought "how many bolts would need to fail to cause a catastrophic failure on this ride?" Probably a valid point, and one that has occurred to me, even as I've been on the ride. However did they also consider how long it's been operating without incident. Who's to say. I'm only speculating. One final point I'll make though is that I wouldn't mind in the slightest about the chairlifts closing, if they were replacing them with new ones with modern safety measures (such as enclosed windows for a start)! Sadly Sea World says there are no such plans. Maybe I should start a petition?

I have to say that from my perspective, Sea World is nowhere near as good as it was just a few years ago. The Bermuda Triangle, the Sea Viper, and now the Chairlifts have all gone. The Dolphin show isn't as good as it was (in my opinion), and the jet stunt show or whatever it is isn't a patch on the old pirate show with the big ship (pun intended). I have no objection to change. Some change is obviously good. From a little kids perspective, Nickelodeon Land is much better than the previous kids area, with better rides. Again though, for me, it's lost a heck of a lot. That's despite the Creatures of the Deep, which I do like. It just doesn't come close to making up for the above losses.
-
Please make sure you are sitting down. I have some very bad news. I'm afraid Sea World has confirmed that my beloved chairlifts have ridden their last ride and will sadly not be reopening. I don't know if I'll get over this, but at least I still have the monorail. Better make the most of that. Seems you never can tell when things will suddenly disappear. I'm just very glad I've had the opportunity to go on the chairlifts over the last 9 months I've been living here, and during my numerous Gold Coast holidays before that. R.I.P. † HI-DE-HI !
-
I'm very worried now. The chairlifts are not included in the list on rides on Sea Worlds website! Sea World has now posted photos of the interior of Dockside Tavern on their FB page. I kind of liked how it was before to be honest. Had a fair bit of history and the feel of an old English pub. Now it's lost that charm. However it did need a refresh I suppose, and I think it has more seating now which is good, including a much bigger balcony with better protection from the birds!
-
According to the "Attractions Maintenance" page on Sea Worlds website, Dockside Tavern reopens in early October. Can anyone confirm if it is in fact now open? Also, there is nothing on that page about the chairlifts being out of action, but I was there a couple of weeks ago and they were all detached from the cable and on the ground outside the resort. Anyone know if they are operating again?
