  1. They wouldn't be able to physically keep living specimens from the "deep ocean", they require darkness, and very high amounts of water pressure which could not be achieved, that's why they use as Gazza said preserved specimens and models of the animals. I think the exhibit would be a good escape on warmer days and offer a more educational experience for all ages. They could utilise the indoor space that held the animatronics simular to the way the turtle exhibition is displayed at the QLD Museuem (obviously mad to look like the deep ocean though not a reef).
  2. I'm sure I heard something about a "Creatures of the Deep" exhibit going in were the dinosaur Island discovery centre was, with animatronic figures of deep sea creatures like giants squids on display, (though I could b confused with the QLD Museums upcoming display).
  3. ^ Yes I know, the point I was trying to make was, if people are making such rumours about Disneyland, we shouldn't be surprised that people have jumped to the same conclusions about Dreamworld.
  4. It's rumored that Disneyland has closed the Finding Nemo Submarine ride for "maintenance" during the off season as a money saving method (its the single most expensive ride to run and operate in the resort) - So I wouldn't put it past Dreamworld.
  5. It does make sense in that School holidays will be over by then, and the week of the 17th-28th is when the University semester begins further reducing the need for longer park hours.
  6. That's the part that annoyed me the most, they spend a good part of the film explaining that Tilikum (the main whale in question) is suffering from some form of psychosis as a direct result of his captive lifestyle, then contradict themselves in the latter half of the film stating that he is genetically more aggressive and violent and should not be used for breeding purposes.
  7. You can easily find the whole film on YouTube, Plus some interesting interviews on the film here http://micechat.com/54370-blackfish-backlash/ http://micechat.com/53915-blackfish-exposed/
  8. When I was there a couple of weeks back there was a food and drink cart set up on the "ride side" of the fence, they probably figure having a staff presence would further deter anyone still willing to jump the heightened fence.
  9. I agree the sensation of being suspended over nothing going up the lift hill is the scariest part of the ride for me, the coaster is itself is just fun.
  10. On the topic of evacuations I noticed the Storm coaster now has a sign stating something along the lines of "under certain circumstances you may be required to exit the ride at a point other than the station" and that you should feel as though you're capable of walking down stairs from a height of approximately 30m", the ride must have gotten stuck on the final hill a lot to have to warrant such a sign.
  11. If the car got stuck on the lift-hill I thought there was a "second row" that can be activated that is tucked under the stairs of the lift hill, in the event of an emergency this row slides or folds out and creates a "walkway" under the coaster car for evacuation.
  12. The wooden parts have been raised in the same way, they even had a food/drink cart set up just on the other side, probably as a further deterrent due to staff presence.
  13. Just got back from sea world, and they have actually raised the height of the gate by adding two rows of wire on the top.
  14. I wouldn't mind the games so much if they were properly themed and executed well, like Universal Studios in Orlando (pics from Micechat) -
  15. My original point was that our parks could not afford a high thrill wooden coaster (they couldn't afford the money or space for an El Toro like coaster), thus my comments about them building one on or below par with the cyclone. The ongoing maintenance of wooden coasters make them far more expensive to maintain and run in the long term, they need constant lubrication, and regular re-tracking to keep them running - Do you really think Dreamworld would invest in such a ride? simple answer is no.
  16. Don't get me wrong I know woodies can be thrilling, but I am talking about for the budget and space out parks have, I think they are better off sticking to steel personally.
  17. The thing with intamin woodies is that they are "pre-fab" coasters, the wood is precision cut in a factory and assembled on site, this means the coaster is very smooth and ultimately loses it's woodie charm and may as well be made from steel. Most of the public visiting out parks complain about the roughness of some of the coasters, such as the cyclone. So why build a new wooden coaster that would have similar or lower thrill levels than the cyclone yet with the same "roughness" as the aging ride. I say build a new steel coaster that had higher thrills, less of a footprint, for a fraction of the maintenance requirements and costs.
  18. I don't understand everyone's longing for a wooden coaster in our parks
  19. Is the the ride photo system up and running yet?
  20. As far as I was aware the slides were always known as the river rapids, and white water mountain was the collective name for the rapids and terror canyon combined. Just like mammoth mountain is made up of the two mammoth rivers and previously mammoth falls. As well as tr Mach 5 which is made up of the two sidewinders and the jet streams.
  21. I just found this POV video of the Storm Coaster on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hahc79Z1H2A
  22. Personally I find the batwing to be the most intense, the feeling of falling is the worst for me, and batwing has that plus the force of being pushed up as well.
  23. If you look back at the concept art on the first post it is definitely themed to the villain Doomsday, and the name of the ride kind of gives it away as well.
  24. The tower will be themed to a DC comic character though, Doomsday is one of Supermans greatest villains. The superman escape and doomsday tower could follow the same story line with doomsday creating the earthquake above causing the subway to collapse and thus Superman comes to save the day, a multi-ride storyline
  25. They pushed it back to focus their efforts on building the Polar Bear Shores expansion, which was needed in a much shorter time with next to no warning (they didn't know the polar bear was pregnant until a few weeks before it gave birth, and even then it was speculation). Besides I think it worked out well having a new water coaster to open in the hit summer season, instead of the spring holiday season.
