The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
StingRay replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
For christ sake. They should have let the professionals do this. You cant get any simple local chippie to knock up a wooden roller coaster even if they have the plans. This could be expensive now. -
Proposed Big Dipper Luna Park Sydney Circa 1984
StingRay replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I was lucky to be involved with this park at one point during my working life. I heard the stories from very good people with park history that before the Big Dipper 2.0 another coaster was mooted to be built. But it never occurred. Until Big Dipper 2.0. It was essentially the same coaster but make a little smaller. It all now lines up and makes sense. I never knew what some people meant by "the coaster that never occurred" but @Jobe has completely confirmed this now. -

It does look awkward. Once you have ridden it at DW and you watch this video (having knowledge of LPS) you can tell it would have been thrilling (even tho the coaster is tame) especially going behind Coney Island and through the entrance arch. -
Proposed Big Dipper Luna Park Sydney Circa 1984

This footage was used in a virtual simulator within the park for those not willing to ride the coaster. Hence why its production value ain't too bad (for its time). Although I'm lead to believe some parts might be missing from this footage. -

Amazing. I heard about this. Never believed it tho as no evidence could be found. You, sir, have outdone yourself. -
So the way I see this is a pretty bad situation. The poor girl witnessed something no one should. Heaven beholds if anyone on here has attended a major MVA with deaths. It is the kind of shit you never forget. She does not want to open up. No one truly likes to open up about true emotions or feelings that shape us. But she could easily have seen child psychologist. It is better than being locked up in a room or something. So we are missing some details I believe about this story. Because its the same company that offered to counsel to anyone on that day. Emergency services workers and witnesses. Not many of the later I believe took up the offer tho. No amount of money can ever bring anyone back. That's a simple life fact. Money its just paper and metal at the end of it all. Ardent seems adamant she is not entitled. Maybe a process was missed or something. Who knows. I doubt anyone here would know either. Even tho I say money is not going to bring someone back it definitely helps with professional counselling and helps set her up for the future. She might have fallen bending educational etc. So that money would help her get to university or something along those lines. Definitely a tricky one this is.

Well, I reckon they might lose more than just the two. Sure they can announce plans now. But I am thinking they are going to lose a decent attraction within the next three years. You gotta save money. VRTP is brilliant at closing things or reducing staffing levels and never answering why. Arkham has been closed for a bloody long time with no explanation. Same with slides over at WnW. They haven't been able to conduct anymore decommissioning at SW with Vikings apart from removing the control system and the station braking system, Boats are long gone also. Suppose we gotta wait and see. But the issue here is they don't want to close anything. They don't want to be caught with their pants down. But it'll happen.

I'm STILL HERE!

Not a bad article but did many actually listen in on the call or that?. Cause it seems like some critical info was missed to make another bash article. I understand DW is against the entire VRTP corporation. But obviously they can't do any good by many in here. Different companies with different offerings and outcomes. 2016 affected the industry but it seems people just want to remember how bad it affected VRTP. VRTP had like a five-year plan already in place. It started with Rivals and goes onto all the things occurring at SeaWorld. So they had luck. DW could have had ideas also. But now they are trying to recover and I believe trying to do it correctly. So whats wrong retiring (BRC) an old ride that's not popular anymore?. I thought that would be a smart move to make way for something in the future. Most likely I am wrong however as I will get told by God. Flow Rider and BRC did not seem as popular as management had first thought (this is the new management) and that's a fact. Given it was mentioned by the head of the organisation. They would watch numbers of guest flow in and out of each ride. It's something every park does even VRTP. Selling some land also ain't a bad thing. The company needs money. So why would that be such a bad thing? It's not like they sold the entire site but only own the car park. God will knock me down within 3...2...1

White Water World Slide Repaints 2019 - 2020
StingRay replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Correct. -
Yeah, you are missing things. Those two rides are leaving as they were not popular. Flow Rider was an upcharge attraction and not meeting expectation. Also being in the wrong place most likely didn't help its cause. BRC (wave to wags) seemed to be losing interest within the last 18 months. It also seemed maybe the ride was seriously outdated (as we know) and was going to cost too much to revamp. Hence why it been removed also. As for the comment about "Duplicating", It appears they are looking at what the attractions provide given how popular they are. So if we look at Vintage cars VS BRC they both a are driving attractions. But Vintage has a much higher output per hour over BRC. Think of all the set theming may be and the maintenance required to keep this attraction going. If it is not super popular then why keep investing in it. Especially if it is run down. They are also looking at the future when it comes to duplicating. You don't want a park full of a bunch of Shockwaves. So I think this is what they are trying to look at and achieve long term. Avoid trying to have the same pony tricks as much as possible. It was also interesting to here they know what is popular within the park, But most importantly they also know what is not popular.

Theme Parks Reopening Post COVID-19

So... People are visiting...? -
If you count the wave pool and model T Fords then sure I think they meant more ride experiences being the same. You know. Just the twirl and hurl.
-
Thanks for that. Interesting about the land. Any idea what location?. As for the comment about duplicating attractions that's a massive win. Something that they had always done in the past was having two of the same things (in some regards). Interesting to see they state two years before international guest return. I think this is the first time an Australian tourism operator has state this.

Has luna park sydney pulled the plug on 2 classic rides
StingRay replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
LPS has balance. From the Carousel, Ferris wheel right up to Hair Raiser & The Rotor. The functions started occurring twelve months ago the park reopened back in 2004. So in 2005 the park realised they needed more money and to justify the fact the crystal palace had a major upgrade and why the Big Top was constructed. It made sense to therefor start offering wedding packages and corporate packages. From MTV music awards to car launches to weddings. I know it would piss many people off. But honestly. it pays the bills much better than the annual pass. River caves would be nice. But you have no space. Unless you are willing to knock down the Big Top and build in on that site. Many issues exist in doing that as The Big Top also serves at BOH. I understand the nostalgia. I really do. People would be like why do we have the rotor then. It was a massive haul mark of a ride for the park that was a super small footprint. Rotor MK2 is, in fact, a lot smaller than the original one that was located where Hair Raiser is today. Yes, coney island was saved. But you know it fell into disrepair?. All of the slides still utilise original framing, Roof was changed along with the floor. If you look around you'll see "drains" they are to help aid airflow and help in the event of a fire. So yes Coney was saved but I think personally it serves a better purpose today than the River caves would. Even tho it is a WHS nightmare to keep open. The free social media they get some that funhouse is amazing. -
Luna Park Melbourne needs a new Coaster
StingRay replied to HyprCoastr19's topic in Theme Park Discussion
You are right. It indeed had that awesome coaster way back when. One issue I currently see with the site is cluttered. The S&S version would be nice. It is something different. As for a location within the park I have no idea. I see how a coaster of this scale would be placed. But I don't know at the same time. -
Luna Park Melbourne needs a new Coaster
StingRay replied to HyprCoastr19's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don't think another coaster is the answer here. Sure people might miss and old attraction but the park does not have much room. Plus it is within a residential area. The scenic railway would help to dampen the noise from inside the park a little. I know enthusiast love coasters. But for a small park, the maintenance cost is a lot also. Plus you need extra staff to safely operate. -
Sea World Monorail removed from website and park map

Don't worry I ain't no rivet counter either. Had the pleasure of driving those beasts also. Very enjoyable I must say. I do have an interest in the miniature engineering but that's about it. Gunzels annoy me also. -

Hence why many call it the Buzz bar and not "Bus bar". I know that annoys the train enthusiast with misinterpretation. But it does go buzz -

Track inspection vehicle. It is used to mainly check for debris or "buzz bar" damage. The "buzz bar" is what provides power to the train. -
