  1. Is the roughness a result of the launch or just the ride/track itself though? Has the tech changed between Red Force and their newer launches such as Velocicoaster/Pantheon, perhaps there's improvements that have been made in speed/forces etc.
  2. My money is on them converting it to a LIM/LSM launch. Curious to know however: Will they need to reduce the height of the ride? Will it still be a shuttle launch (Like Rock'n'Roller Coaster at DLHS)? Surely they'd also need new (lighter) trains Bummed I didn't get there to experience it before hand, apparently although shorter it was still the better ride when compared to Kingda Ka due to lap bars and not OTSR's
  3. Don't want it spontaneously completing the course when they're not expecting it
  4. Having recently been to Florida and did the parks around that area (inc BGT), I rate Rivals lower than Velocicoaster but higher than Iron Gwazi. A lot of the yanks are staying that VC/IG are/is the best coaster at the moment. Rivals/Taipan has better restraints than Velocicoaster, but only slightly; Velocicoaster doesn't have the seatbelts, but the seats and trains are a little more narrow/cramped than the Mack trains. I feel like a lot of the ride experience for me was lost on Gwazi due to the restraints (belt under a T-bar which I got stapled under). DCR/ST/VC you're only restrained at your waist, so when you're going through -ve G's your upper body and legs etc are floating, whereas on Gwazi your lower body is kinda just stuck in the same place. I'm hoping to convince the wife to go to Cedar Point so that I can try out SteVe, but if the restraints are like IG then I'm not all that hopeful.
  5. I agree, but only to a point. Scheduled maintenance, yes. Unscheduled maintenance, well that's where I'm torn. I read a comment on one of the MW FB posts from a person that just travelled from Sydney the day before Rival's went down. I can't help but feel sorry for them in this instance. To say 'oh well just go back when it's fixed' doesn't really work when you're not a local. I'm not an engineer, but our rides do appear to go down for unscheduled maintenance a lot, is there more that needs to be done during the scheduled maintenance period to reduce unexpected downtime?
  6. Interesting! Maybe I'll get over there one day and ride them, and make up for me chickening out as a kid!
  7. I'm guessing so that it makes more sense for them to have had to call in Fire and Rescue.
  8. I'm not a financial guy by any stretch, but that report reads like everything it going to be sunshine and rainbows for Ardent, yet despite ticket sales and attendance being up, they're still running at a loss. It's less of a loss than last FY, but its still in the red. Can anyone explain? I also noted the following on pg 28: So does this mean they'll have projects planned to announce for this, and the next two FY's?
  9. Something I've just discovered too, is the $79 is only for the 1st and 7th of October, prices increase as the month progresses: 01/07 October: $79 08/14 October: $89 15/21/22/28/29 October: $99 Fast Track for Mazes and Rides is $149, plus entry.
  10. For someone that's never been, are all rides generally open, or only a select few?
  11. We last visited in the Easter break and even then it depended on the OP in the booth as to whether you got a countdown or just yeeted when it was ready. The only place I remember there being a rattle on ST was after the MCBR, more noticible in the back but nothing to complain about - the restraints on ST/DCR makes it a non issue for me (unlike Superman Escape where your ears cop a beating). Just curious, how many trains were running? The first couple of days of our visit, ST was a station wait all day for the most part. At the end of the 2nd day however there were issues with the spinning seats and the train got parked in maintenance, it didn't return on the 3rd day and the wait times were quite a bit longer. Still better than DCR with single train ops however, but that's also due the ride time / popularity.
  12. I'm not a horticulturalist, and those trees look fairly heavily pruned, but pruning has to happen if they want it to maintain its shape and not get too large and have to be removed. Spring is only a few weeks away, they'll spring back, but it might take a couple of years to get back to where they were, and then they'll probably be pruned again. The Scooby trees look like they've been pruned in such a way so as to encourage them to grow away from the building. The only reasons I can think for this is either fire protection (fire break incase tree goes up in flames) or that they're going to put an actual shade structure over the queue and don't want the tree branches to grow over/into it.
  13. Yeah, there's no way this is seeing a life other than scrap metal. They're not unbolting anything, it's all being blow torched, and other parts bent out of shape. Photo credit Credit Theme Park Social Network on FB:
  14. I saw some photos on the Movieworld Fan Club FB page with some of the track removed. TBH I was waiting for someone to post them here/upload their own. Credit Warner Bros. Movie World Fan Club on FB. The cuts don't look too rough - not in the same way they were when Sea Viper was removed, so perhaps there's some truth to the rumour that the ride is moving? Edit: Actually in that photo with Superman in the foreground, I figured if they were moving the ride they would have unbolted that join instead of cutting it... so perhaps this really is the end.
  15. Rivals was $20 last holidays, Tailwhip was $25. Prices will stay / go up so long as people keep paying. The line was practically empty for back seat during our Easter visit.
  16. Honest question, is the op not allowed to leave their place in the station while the ride is in motion? My view would be after the ride dispatches they could go organise the next batch of riders, but it seemed like they waited for the train to park back in loading before they went to organise the next group.
  17. If they were Intamin's published riders per hour, then based on what I've seen from the Problematic Roller Coaster series, they're not right in any park.
  18. I'm with you, but I'd imagine the lettering would only be tack welded on, so nothing an angle grinder wouldn't fix. All a matter of time and effort though.
  19. Zoom in on the image, it's right at the extent of the curve between the two supports. You can see where the wear marks on the surface of the track have been covered. Its also a slightly more purple shade of purple (as opposed to pink). I hope if this is the colour their using that they DO paint it all, it's clearly a different shade to me, and it'll be patchy as hell of they don't paint over the existing colour, or, get the repaint colour right.
  20. Just on the subject of ticket sales and expected attendance, they really don't have a guaranteed way of knowing this based only on ticket sales alone. When I bought tickets, I was not expected to tell them what day(s) I was planning on attending, I just had 12 months to use them. My tickets were originally purchased as a Christmas gift for 2021. We ended up getting a credit and re-buying them shortly before our Easter trip. Now, we would be on the 'expected attendance' list with our purchase, but there would have been a cohort of people with passes purchased sometime in the last 12 months that were waiting for their right time to attend, along with people like me that bought them just before, or at the gate.
  21. Super ripper is the purple slide yeah? While standing on the tower waiting for Kaboom we noticed a few flying down the slide, and some just crawling. Maybe clothing is a factor?
  22. No I agree with you, there is still a human (humans?) factor to be considered in all of this, but at the end of the investigation, was any person(s) in particular held responsible? Or was it the business as a whole? When looking at WHS/Financial responsibilities, there's always a personal liability under your role, as well as a business responsibility - both have the potential to cop a fine/penalty if a breach is made. In the US families of the Sandy Hook victims recently settled with Remington... so in a way, I guess guns do kill people Never knew that was an actual thing. Anecdotally I've heard of the 'Grandad's old axe, it's only had 2 new heads and 4 new handles'. Legally though, the business entity of Dreamworld still exists as it did no matter how many bodies have come and gone since 2016. I completely agree, but I'm talking about public perception, and not that of enthusiasts that understand the changes that have been made. See also, ride stoppage 'news' where people were 'frightened for their lives' while stuck on a lift hill. Here we all know that there is no danger to them, but people that don't know any better don't. I remember the news video with Greg still in the COO role announcing the closure of TOT2, specifically talking about how there's nothing unsafe about TOT2, it's just time for it to be retired. Along with what happened, I don't necessarily blame anyone for questioning *why* a lot of long standing attractions at Dreamworld are suddenly being removed... was it a result of them being unsafe? (Note that question was rhetorical, we all know this not to be the case, again, public perception). Understandable to those with an understanding of theme park ride life cycles While standing in both DC Rivals and Superman escape lines I heard people asking what that grey coaster was. I mentioned to one that it used to be Arkham Asylum/Lethal Weapon but it's been decommissioned, to which they replied 'Oh, it seems unusual that they'd decommission a ride', to which I though, yeah, but really no. I personally think that ship has sailed. The opportunity for a ownership change / rebrand to save face has well and truly passed, and they've instead decided to double down fixing their reputation, invoking nostalgia of pre 2016 times, moving past the post 2016 ride removals while also acknowledging their history, embracing it and moving forward. Hopefully Dreamworld have finished their 'consolidation' phase and can now work toward re-expanding again, in a controlled and calculated way!
  23. I sound argumentative here but I'm not trying to be. People in positions shouldn't matter, the business as a whole should have policies and procedures in place to govern these matters. Dreamworld as a business is still responsible, regardless of who is in what position at the time. I actual felt a little bad for Dreamworld on our visit last week, having come from the village parks and seeing how jam packed the were with guests and with multiple hour waits for rides, and then going to Dreamworld where everything was practically a walk on in a busy holiday period. It was good to see some positive reviews however about peoples experiences in Dreamworld compared to the village parks. However reading through some of these comments people are still either worried about safety following the incident, or salty about the number of attractions that have been removed in recent years (screenshots below are from a ST POV video on youtube). Even with the addition of Steel Taipan the first thing people seem to do is compare it to DC Rivals, so unless they can manage to better VRTP in some aspect, they're always going to be the poor relative. So, in my opinion, DW still have two main issues to content with currently: the fallout of 2016, and the fallout of them cleaning up their act, which unfortunately has meant the removal of some attractions with no direct replacements announced. Steel Taipan is definitely a great addition, and I'd have to say its my number 2 coaster in Australia behind DC Rivals. They really need to back it up with something better, but I know this probably won't happen short term as there are other things in the park that need attention sooner.
  24. I don't think that area was open for the event. We went on tail spin during our visit and the whole area still had Halloween signage up. I liked the ST area, feels modern and new. The rock in the garden around the entry/exit seemed to be getting chucked around by the kids waiting for the adults on the ride (rocks were all over the path etc). The whole area smelt like a freshly paved road (tarry smell), not sure where this is coming from as everything looked to be concrete and wood. The rock structures in the ride area don't look like they've been sealed adequately enough, when you come off the MCBR there's like a calcium deposit all over the rockwork/track which is a shame considering it's only been open for about 5 months. I heard quite a number of people comment on how early the VQ's were 'consumed' when lining up at 9:30 to enter the park. Surprised they don't have the option to remove the VQ setting from the app altogether to avoid confusion.
  25. There's plenty of Google and Trip Advisor reviews to keep you all entertained if you want
