  1. Superman accelerates at more than two times the rate of the ToT. It has the same acceleration as the Ferrari World coaster and Top Thrill Dragster, it falls just a bit short of Kingda Ka. In the end, we can't sense the overall speed too well apart from our eyes watching the world zoom past, and the feeling of wind on our face, but we can definitively feel the force of acceleration. The ToT is good, but not worth the wait on busy days. I'd rather spend the time waiting for the Giant Drop instead, or repeat riding The Claw.
  2. You could go a full day at DW and go on the large array of thrilling rides once or twice each, or you could do what I do and go to MW and do all the really nice and enjoyable rides (scooby doo, arkham asylum, wild west falls, batwing, heck even the road runner coaster is worth a ride or two.) 4 times each and maybe Superman Escape 6 times. Some would argue that it's not worth 'wasting' a whole day at MW just for Superman, but I'll retaliate by saying that Superman Escape = Pure and Golden Coaster Sex. I cannot get enough of that launch. The launch on the Tower of Terror feels like the trip back down the highway after riding Superman. You want to experience the tower of terror? Go to a large, empty car park and floor your car in reverse. Want to experience Superman Escape? Unless you drive a Nissan GTR (even one of those isn't quite as fast), you'll have to ride it for yourself.
  3. They went on the slide when it was closed? In that case the soft, inflatable things at the bottom might not have been set up, so they slid all the way down and there was nothing at the bottom to catch them but metal railings. Owch.
  4. Kings Island is really goddamn pretty. Even if it is a bit bland and themeless.
  5. The Arkham Asylum ops are basically actors. They are supposed to be mental asylum patients. They are bound to say some edgy things and seem quite serious when they say them.
  6. And everybody thinks everybody else's arsehole stinks, so you probably shouldn't go around shoving it in people's faces.
  7. I enjoy the 2 -1G airtime hills on Superman. It is even more expensive to build a "cool" coaster in Australia because we are so far away from where the parts of the coaster are built in Europe or the US. It's also more expensive to do anything in general including buying land, workers' costs, equipment hire etc. Unless someone sets up a coaster company here in Australia tailoring to our specific industry's needs, our parks are going to have to fish out the big bucks for coasters.
  8. Surfrider is my favourite ride at WnW. The free spinning nature feels more out of control than a similar ride like The Claw which feels very smooth and is almost relaxing in a way. I usually ride it multiple times during the day to dry off, I do miss the water though. I wish they had one of these at WnW Sydney, but I don't think it's even that popular on the GC. Hope they decide to keep the ride for the years to come.
  9. I was so young when I watched that show, that I don't even remember the characters being able to speak. The hot water bottle scared me more though.
  10. I don't know much about wooden coasters. Do events like this usually end up writing them off for good, or are they usually repaired? Also, what measures are put in place to prevent, or at least lessen the effects of a fire? Surely they consider these things, otherwise their just asking for their multi-million dollar coasters to turn into multi-million dollar bonfires.
  11. I think people (especially those operating rides) should be made more aware of why rides have safety restrictions. Height isn't an indicator of how mature they are in order for them to ride something. The reason we have height restrictions is all to do with whether the rider is safely secured by the restraint. We couldn't give a rat's arse whether young Timmy is mature enough to ride the roller-coaster. If he can fit, and is secured by the harness, then he is allowed to ride. Whereas old man Jones has been to war, he has seen things no man should ever have seen, and he isn't afraid of anything. But he can't ride the roller coaster because he is short and can't be safely secured by the restraint. Most of us on here would be able to tell whether any danger apparent on a ride is manufactured danger or real danger. Kinda like a pilot being able to tell, when flying as a passenger, whether a seemingly precarious situation to the inexperienced is normal or abnormal. We know why these restrictions are in place, and hearing of preventable accidents like this, especially so close to home, is disconcerting.
  12. Damn airports and famous landmarks. Always causing the most damage/drama.
  13. This is good news, but maybe a bad idea if any rowdy fellas want to cause trouble. How fast are the cars?
  14. The fog that comes from dry ice is heavier than air, so it would be pretty stupid to use in the disco room as it wouldn't rise up far enough, unless you could have the ice on the roof or something. Even then, dry ice isn't a very cost-efficient way of producing fog, and it is hard to handle. Wouldn't they need it to be delivered often?
  15. Packaging & Delivery Packaging Detail: standard package (plastic package inside and wooden carton outside)(packing in according to customer's needs). Delivery Detail: within 20 days for roller coaster after 30% deposit Gosh, That's convenient... Is everyone willing to chip in a few hundred $$$? We can buy this for ourselves.
  16. GC Parks would not make 100x more than the four parks you mentioned. Being in a crappy area doesn't mean less people will come. Think of how far everyone in Australia travels to go to the GC parks. The population of the US is about 13x that of Australia, so the amount of people who are within 100km of these parks is massive. The park would actually benefit by being in these areas because they don't need to pay as much for the land. The cost of workers, transport, everything to do with building a world-class ride is cheaper. There are more people going to the parks, there is more demand for the rides, there is more of a theme-park culture and following. Everything is on their side to build 'better' rides. I think it is a matter of quantity over quality. There are some great rides here in Australia that wouldn't look out of place at a US park, but there just isn't enough demand for anything better. Why would the parks feel obliged to spend the money just so a few theme-park eggheads on a forum are happy? We may be the parks' biggest fans, but we are definitely a minority of their market.
  17. WnW Sydney is due to open again on the 20th of September - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ9xWqe6REk Has anyone had a chance to see whether the gardens have grown in? It just seemed a little dead when it first opened. Just a paddock of concrete, pools and water slides.
  18. So Wet'n'Wild is reopening on September 20. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ9xWqe6REk What do you hope has changed over the off-season? Has anyone been able to take a peek and see if the gardens have grown in? It just didn't feel very theme park-ey with the lack of decent shrubbery when it first opened. Just a bunch of concrete, pools and slides in a paddock.
  19. I was surprised that my 3d was backwards at times, if not all the time, unless this was caused by people screwing with the glasses (which I doubt), it is a massive error on their part. In school holidays the ride is pretty full, and I have definitely overheard kids talking about how cool it is to be on an interactive shooting ride. I don't think it has missed the mark in terms of pleasing its actual target market (whether or not MW is advertising to this same market), but I was personally pretty underwhelmed. I wasn't aware that it was classified as a 'Thrill' ride, but if so then that's ridiculous. It could potentially cause kids who would actually love the experience to not ride it, and leave people who were expecting more to leave disappointed. Give JL the green family rating right now!
  20. I think I'll go up on a low traffic day and learn how to ride Tail Spin. I can't see myself wasting time trying to fit a ride in on a packed day, capacity will be an issue. Something tells me the ride will be popular (at least for a period after opening) considering you can control how intense it is. It isn't like the Giant drop where you can put up with the low capacity because >60% of the people in the park don't even want to ride it.
