  1. The horse has well and truly bolted re the name. They could change it whatever they like and people will still call it Sea World well after blackfish has been forgotten. They would be far better served getting on the front foot and letting people know the facts about what they do and don't do with a strong advertising campaign. The number of people who think they have whales is extraordinary.
  2. Putting aside the OTT reactions it is a strange piece of promotion from Seaworld I reckon. They are saying open in the holidays which could mean anytime in the next two weeks, surely they could be a bit more specific on such a short timeframe, even with a rider.
  3. My feeling has always been it would be a pretty horrible job.
  4. Well off topic here but what happens if you are on Scooby Doo and the ride is stopped? Can you get out of the carts at any point or are you sometimes just stuck there?
  5. Follows track the same way, people face other way. It's not actually going backwards, just the passenger is.
  6. x 2. And is it Seinfeld who does the bit about airports just being cover to make money from sandwiches? Be very interesting to see the breakdown of where a park makes its money.
  7. I think the issue of long queues is a bit of a different discussion. The issues at MW are because it doesn't have enough attractions and doesn't add enough new ones (as opposed to one out one in additions), especially "2nd tier" type stuff. Dreamworld is much more accessible on a busy day because it has 3 times more to do. I don't think that's a pass cost issue.
  8. It also has the effect that a Victorian family like mine will buy a pass and then make the effort to have a trip or two extra during the year when we would usually have gone elsewhere.
  9. I consider this a win for the reflected intelligence of our society.
  10. When you look at it, it's actually a pretty poor result for Movieworld.
  11. Trashy as in conceptually, not architecturally or visually. For whatever their attraction is to anyone, casinos also bring large doses of misery, drunkenness, prostitution and desperation. For example I'll guarantee car break-ins in the Seaworld carpark will increase astronomically with a casino next door. I guess I see Seaworld as being pretty good, clean family fun. Seems a shame to mix the two worlds so closely.
  12. Seems a shame to stick something as trashy as a casino next to a family theme park. Hope it doesn't happen.
  13. MDMC with a few more bends for mine.
  14. Could it be an insurance call? Ie the cost of decommissioning will be covered by insurance and therefore no loss financially?
  15. Couldn't agree more re the time share jerks. Would barely be anymore tacky if the parks had a strip club in them.
  16. They could certainly do with something. Hasn't been a great period for MW, especially when compared to the DW actions over the same time period.
  17. I actually wonder if that is part of the rationale behind the ticketing. I'm assuming the majority of punters at the parks aren't locals here which may not be correct. Most people who visit are perhaps there for a week or two on holidays. If the cost of a multiple ticket is cheaper then they are more likely to go multiple days and spend more in the parks each time, and them even schedule another trip while the passes are still valid. I know that is how it has worked for us.
  18. Does anyone know how the park attendances have fluctuated over the years of various pricing?
  19. I don't mind the idea as a renewal. As a Victorian, we have had passes but once you have been a couple of times for the year the motivation to go again diminishes. If the renewal is cheaper though the temptation comes to do it again and take advantage of it. I'd imagine for locals that effect is amplified because if you had been to the parks lots in 12 months you'd certainly have park fatigue but this could tip you over the line.
  20. Are the blokes in the cherry picker wetting it to keep it alive?
  21. It's a shame it doesn't go randomly to really add the element of surprise to it.
  22. Dreamworld much better in terms of number of rides and variation in them. You also get a better variety of non-ride experiences in my opinion with the animal shows. Having said that I reckon Seaworld is the best park so if you were looking at a multi day ticket you might go Seaworld/Movieworld as you can only get a Dreamworld/Whitewaterworld ticket or a Seaworld/MovieWorld/WetnWild ticket as they are different companies.
