  1. To use a theme park analogy, replacing a Cinema screen that is indoors is like LPM taking down the Metropolis and putting something else in.... Pretty "easy" to do... But replacing a Cinema Screen that is outdoors at a drive-in is like if Warner Brothers decided to replace Superman Escape with a new ride.... It's gonna cost a heck of a lot more, and a major critical attraction would be out for a relatively long time.... costing alot of money in lost business. And that's the biggest reason you WON'T ever see an outdoor screen run a current-tech RealD film... ironically Screens, especially big outdoor drive-in ones, cost alot more than projectors, and Dolby3D just needs that new projector.
  2. Yes it is... The quality takes a big hit when watching outdoors... Why? because the Screen's Brightness is already significantly dimmed by the 3D effect, the silver screen and the polarized glasses, and outdoor films already tend to be even "darker". What I mean is that light may reflect on the screen occassionally, causing the image to be somewhat harder to make out, and to minimise this, outdoor cinemas cannot run films until well after sunset. Not to mention you may be sitting further away from the screen and looking through a windshield too. In order for RealD to work outdoors as well as it does inside, the distribution companies would have to produce seperate much brighter prints of each film just for projection outdoors(which they will NEVER do, why would you?) in order to accont for issues that only Outdoor cinemas suffer from. This is NOT the case with Dolby3D which has a higher fidelity, less ghosting and non-polarized 3D glasses(but the glasses therefore cost alot more). Additional to that, RealD does not work with conventional projection screens, which most current outdoor cinemas are. Outdoor screens are more difficult to replace than indoor ones, especially Drive-in screens. You effectively have to bulldose it to the ground and build a new one(which for a drive in would naturally cause business issues, given they can only run films at certain limited times, and only have 3 or 4 screens at most) ... or if you've got the space, just build a new one(still much more expensive, and heck most Driveins already useup whatever land they have... Think about it, replace a screen at a hefty cost, or just install a better more expensive 3D technology that may have more expensive non-standard glasses, but none the less works on the already existing screen and doesn't suffer from the same brightness issues, and overall would probably be cheaper to install in your particular outdoor cinema, given installing the other one would mean bringing out the wrecking crew and having a despretly needed Screen out of action for potentially months, and you would be getting potentially a technology that wouldn't even work well. So I'm glad they are looking into this at Village, they obviously know the Coburg Drivein does need to be able to run 3D films(to remain somewhat profitable), and now that Dolby3D has been tested outdoors and works, they could certainly take that option. Why do you think RealD has never been put on an outdoor screen despite the projectors being able to do it(particularily at Village, who have replaced all their projectors including the outdoor cinema ones, they also replaced many of their screens too... but not the Outdoor ones, because it costs too much to justify). Here are two great sites: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1085037/reald-vs-dolby-3d http://www.slashfilm.com/qa-best-3d-format/ The "Silver Screen Issues" or "Reflection Problems" mentioned in these two is the reason why RealD cannot be used in outdoor cinemas currently. Dolby3D can be customized at a higher brightness with "Dual Projection" as is stated in that Slashfilm article. And the world's first installation of an outdoor 3D setup explaining why they choose to use Dolby3D, "It's more advanced" and "It's the only one that works outdoors": http://www.galaxydriveintheatre.com/faqs/ http://www.cinelinx.com/movie-news/item/654-north-texas-home-to-worlds-first-3d-drive-in-theater.html
  3. The technical department at Village Cinemas is currently investigating the possibility of installing Australias' first outdoor 3D Cinema at Coburg Drivein.... They are investigating the feasibility of installing a Dolby3D installation there, instead of the usual RealD. Dolby have confirmed their 3D technology works outdoors(RealD doesn't)... Interesting stuff... So I thought I'd post it here...

  5. Yeah... The really good news is that the Photos were all clearly legitimate! They don't request a site remove photos if they are fake/incorrect pictures!
  6. My pic of the HMI(?) screen wasn't hotlinked, so that's why it's still here.. YAY!
  7. Yeah I knew that. I'm very tall(6 foot plus) and I can tell you, it's the roughest coaster in this country that any tall person can ride. I damn near smashed my kneecaps last time because I wasn't in a fully braced position and my knees were right up against the wood(have to be, not enough room for a high 6 footer). If you're average height you might not have a problem, but for a tall person who is a little overweight, it'll smash your legs worse than Lethal Weapon did to your head, unless you manage to stay fully braced through the whole ride and the breaksman does a very smooth job. I hobbled out of it with a soreback and painful kneecaps(was seriously worried of an Injury, but it was luckily just well bruised). I've ridden it many times and most times it'll be "not bad" on the legs, but sometimes I get knocked out of my braced position and they'll get seriously wacked around as will my back.
  8. Meh, Scenic Railway almost smashed my kneecaps last time I rode it... Still loved it, I guess rough coasters are kindof my thing. loved Lethal Weapon, loved Eureka(and that was rough too), loved Thunderbolt, Love Sea Viper, and the roughest one of all the rough coasters in our country, Scenic Railway, I love the most...
  9. A bit of a detour guys.... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151632251024564.1073741831.92438924563&type=1&_rdr#10151632434714564 Ahhh... Good pictures... And I think they updated this: http://adventureworld.net.au/visitor-info/history-of-adventure-world/
  10. I love that video... and that Thunderbolt one with the song put to the Young Talent Time footage!
  11. Nope. We know it's a Eurofighter(Council Application gave it away), we know Hapag Lloyd is shipping it(And a crate of theirs is visible in one of these photos, as well as that AW Facebook one), and clearly the ride in these German pictures is going to an English speaking country(English control screen)... So no, it doesn't make sense what he just said. Instead of saying just plain "no" he should have read the rest of the thread(here) and written something at least less strongly worded... Like "Well it may not be, not 100% certain yet", instead of just plain "No".... Lol, now I'm on the other end of it again! Also if the pics are not realated to AW's ride, why did the German guys see fit to put them in a thread THEY created on the ride? No, he's most likely wrong on this occasion... Or at least it's highly likely that those pictures are of the Adventure World ride. German guy probably saw the Hapag Crate photo, ride construction pictures and the "damning" Council Application, and it probably confirmed his suspicions this ride is going to an English speaking country, which he was probably already thinking when he took the pictures. P.S. It could possibly even be the same crate come to think of it...
  12. The concrete area out the front has been extended right down to the tram stop, and some work has occured on the road between LPM and the Palais.. as they have pointed out on their facebook page. You can compare it to the Google Maps street view. They have extended the front an awful lot. For example, they got rid of that lane that turns into that small road between LPM and Palais. They've given themselves quite a bit of extra space. It's really nice actually.
  13. Looks good... A little expansion? Apparently this was proposed by the Palais. I hope they put part of that regular Street Market around the front here too... It's usually on LPM's right side, all in the park. But would be nice to get some cheap good grub. Not really important this is, but nice to see the council work with them and put some thought into improving the park. I hope this doesn't change things for the ole Face too much, except as I said I'd love to see some food stalls out there when the Market is on! Obviously more room for rides and expanding beyond the 1912 footprint would be bigger news than this... but this is good too.
  14. Was there once Animatronics on the rapids ride? They're all gone?
  15. Trivia: It's supposed to be pronounced that way, or more correctly "Ye-sus", as in Latin and Greek it's spelt "Iesus". The English pronunciation is actually incorrect, same goes for "Julius Caesar", which the Romans actually pronounced "Yulius Kaisar"(and spelt it "Iulius") which is also where the German word came from.
  16. I'm not surprised. They're over there, we're over here. Looks like they've got a picture of the ride layout over there?
  17. More pics are on the Facebook site... The rides' area is coming along nicely. Groundwork looks great. Not much else to comment on till they get track we can look at. I wonder what that trench over near the waterslide is for?
  18. I agree. I really hoped LPM would be adding more attractions after Coney Island Drop, but it seems more and more like a one off as time goes on.
  19. Park has most likely gone back to the same manufacturers and they specilize in themepark laser tag arenas based on film franchises(Previously they did Terminator themed laser tag). No reason to end the business relationship and go for something off the shelf generic... So most likely it won't be. Even if it's another attraction, and not a laser tag anymore, it's still unlikely to be generic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_Impact_Entertainment Even most of their other attractions have somekind of licensed theme.
  20. Yeah, could also be Resident Evil(film franchise)... That probably would fit a laser tag theme better...
  21. Laser Arenas are often temporary attractions(lasting only a few years with the same theme). This might just be a retheme and it could still be a Laser tag attraction, with a Walking Dead theme. Besides AVP is an old franchise now that Prometheus sent the Alien franchise in a new direction.
  22. Sounds like a live walkthrough to me, in the vein of Prison Break, Lara Croft and the earlier Mummy experience. More recently, Circus of Screams at LPM. Perhaps this will be a larger, more elaborate and permanent walkthrough? Edit: I agree with Buzzkill13 obviously. Could have had a much better background.
