Guess I can start wearing a hat on this ride, if that cage offers water protection for my head from the final splashdown. All jokes aside, this is a ridiculous method to keep the ride safe. Seatbelts could have worked just fine, but cages are a better idea according to DW.

Tower of Terror getting removed? Who in the right mind would get rid of Dreamworld's signature attraction and its only good coaster at this point in time? There's plenty of rides in the park that should be getting the chop well before that ride bites the dust (Hot Wheels and Wipeout are two of these) Dreamworld needs to have built a decent coaster before it takes away the TOT. They can't just get rid of a coaster and leave 4 sub-par coasters as the only ones left over. Hot Wheels is on its last legs, Motocoaster is an embarrassment, Buzzsaw is average, and Madagascar is an ordinary off-the-shelf family coaster that has a track record for being mediocre (see how popular the ones in the States are and you'll understand what I mean). 10 years down the road, we should be revisiting this question, but it's too early at this stage to be even a consideration.

While simulator rides are not my cup of tea, a flying theatre is a fantastic addition to the park and is a good family oriented attraction that Dreamworld is sorely lacking, filling the void left by TRRR. I like the idea of a new dark ride in the future as well - Justice League down the road is, needless to say, a pretty underwhelming attraction, and there should be another dark ride that can one up it. But, if Dreamworld are only able to get 40 people per cycle on this ride, the capacity on this ride will be very poor and the lines will move very slowly. Aside from that, the expansion of the water park sounds like good news - if this was three-four years ago, I would have argued the park to build a major new slide tower by ripping down Cyclone, but considering that its renovation is the latest thing the park has spent money on, they will probably keep it for a few more years. Whitewater World could do well with a Boomerango or one of those King Cobra slides Six Flags bought. Wait a minute, I know Giant Drop is going down for maintenance sometime in February, but are they actually refurbishing the ride like what they did to Cyclone and Wipeout? If so, this is huge news.

Wait a second, what has happened to the Rocky Hollow area which had Giant Drop and RHLR? And why did the Town of Gold Rush get renamed back to Gold Rush Country, according to this park map? Can someone explain to me when this happened?

This kid is probably some immature 14 year old who does stupid risky things. Needless to say, I'm not surprised that this has happened - and I'm not impressed either. Wonder why he thought doing pull-ups on a theme park chairlift was a smart idea?

Has anyone seen this Chinese knock-off coaster? Looks like a coaster made in RCT or something like that.

I wouldn't mind if they went full on virtual reality like the old VR-1 at Sega World. After all, the technology has improved leaps and bounds since then and Dreamworld could have a one of a kind ride if it was executed properly. The Australian theme makes me feel concerned, because I get the feeling Ardent will half-ass it and use little more than drone footage, cheap out on the simulator mechanism, and call it a day. If they want to go the simulator route, it is imperative that Ardent take a look at what Disney and Universal are doing and see how they can replicate them within their budget. I'm looking at rides like Iron Man, Minion Mayhem, Simpsons, Star Tours, heck even the old BTTF ride Universal used to have. If Dreamworld's simulator is done very well, they could have a serious winner on their hands, and potentially even put them onto the world stage.

Not really, Adventure World added a new ride every year some time ago. Freefall in 2009, Kids water area overhaul in 2010, Kahuna Falls in 2011, Dragon's Kingdom in 2012, Abyss in 2013. Given Mark has stopped working for Adventure World, I think the addition of "maximum impact attractions every 2 years" has run its course. I don't recall Mark saying that they had MI4, MI5 and so forth in the pipeline. If Mark has quit because Adventure World don't need an expert consultant for expansion anymore, it's a telltale sign that they want to slow down expansion. However, this cannot take away from what we have got over the last 6 years. Abyss, Kahuna Falls, Dragon's Kingdom, Kraken, an overhaul of all the attractions, and now Goliath are the additions that were purchased when Mark was CEO. Heavy investment was required to put in all of these attractions. We've had a great run, but I personally believe Adventure World is taking a break and slowing down expansion now, for at least a few years, before they see a need to reinvest again. What we will see in the following years will be smaller attractions, maybe a used ride or two a la Freefall, and some minor improvements, but nothing on the "maximum impact" scale.

I'm surprised that nobody has brought up Merlin. They've already invested in tourist attractions in Sydney and Melbourne, and unless they are in a position to possibly open up a Legoland on the Gold Coast in the future, Dreamworld would make a great addition to their portfolio. IMO, I personally prefer an Australian consortium, led by Packer or Murdoch or someone like that, with Mark consulting, once he is done with Gumbuya World.

While Giant Drop has substantially shorter lines than some other attractions, I doubt for one minute that one person would be sitting at the top of Giant Drop on their own, in a peak period. Also, the lady attending the ride is right. Drop towers break down at the top all the time. While this report may seem silly when we look at it, if I was sitting at the top of GD for 25 minutes, on one of the tallest drop towers on earth, it would be very terrifying.

Well, to be honest if they screwed up an article regarding an accident which took the lives of 4 people, that would be a PR disaster for News Limited. They needed to be careful when making an article like the ones we've seen on here - and they've actually managed to achieve that.

While it would be great to see a memorial, I do not think Dreamworld needs to hang onto this accident too much - sure, it happened, and it was bad - but they've been able to move on from it since. A plaque, a garden and a small fountain should make for a sound memorial, preferably in a place that doesn't hinder their possibility to expand and add another ride on the site. Something like the memorial garden LPS did for the Ghost Train fire in the 1995 redevelopment is suitable. Looking back on it now, Dreamworld has done well since what happened and have been able to bounce back. Now, a year on, hopefully this continues.

Those Zamperla coasters built in shopping centres must be quite common - there is a coaster I visited when I was in Hong Kong a couple weeks ago that is very similar to the coaster built at Jazzland and Tops. The ride closed about 10 years ago but the track is still there. To be honest, the Myer Centre is a poorly designed mall - an example of a theme park inside a mall that has thrived is Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America, and that was built outwards, not upwards like Myer Centre was. How the operating companies were able to forsee people coming to their poorly located amusement areas in the long term is anyone's guess, I'm surprised both Jazzland and Tops were able to survive as long as they did.

Alton Towers is a must visit, I went there with an old friend from school last year - as a note, unless you are desperate, don't do Smiler, the queues are very long for that. Nemesis, Rita and Oblivion on the other hand have substantially shorter lines than Smiler, and Galactica has slightly longer lines but not as long as Smiler. Note I went to Alton Towers in the peak of summer on a weekend so it may be different for your visit. Another park I can recommend is Blackpool Pleasure Beach. They have a few good coasters, but nothing really outstanding. They have some one of a kind coasters though that are rare credits. Thorpe Park on the other hand has some good coasters. I like Swarm, Nemesis Inferno, Stealth and Colossus, but can't say the same thing for Saw. Also, if you can - do Sweden. Particularly Kolmarden, Grona Lund and Liseberg. Liseberg has two standout coasters (Balder and Helix), Grona Lund has two great little coasters (Twister and Jetline), and Kolmarden has an insane RMC woodie (Wildfire). All the UK parks close for the season by the end of November, so if I were you, I'd hurry the visits up.

Especially for one that is as old as Corkscrew. How long do they close their log flume for maintenance?

I'd much prefer for the coaster to be rethemed to the classic Scooby Doo cartoons or the new animated movie rather than sticking to the original. IMO theming the ride to the at best forgettable live action movie has made it - in 2016 kind of odd looking to the audiences that Scooby Doo targets, primarily families of children who were not alive when the original movie came out. Surely the theme worked when the live action movies were still relevant around 2002-2006, but these days, the movie has been forgotten by most people, with good reason - it was a bland, boring movie which lacked the charm and gags of the original cartoon series.

If Paramount bought Wonderland, I can tell you there would have been an open possibility Sydney would have become the theme park capital of Australia, and not the Gold Coast. In 1992, the Gold Coast was still making a name for itself, Movie World had just opened, Dreamworld hadn't installed any of their Big 9 at the time, and Sea World - was actually pretty good, it had Lasseter's, Corkscrew and Vikings Revenge back then. Paramount invested heavily in the 10+ years that they owned the KECO parks, in order to make their own version of Six Flags. Whether or not our Wonderland could have gotten a slice of the pie is anyone's guess. But, judging by the rides that Paramount added to their parks, we could have gotten some seriously good attractions. Who knows, we could have gotten a Drop Zone tower (we did ultimately get one in the form of Space Probe), a Top Gun inverted coaster or a Backlot clone.

I haven't been to Adventure World in a long time, but I can tell you that I've ridden Arrow loopers that are smoother than Abyss was when I rode it. Abyss is a good ride, but putting OTSR's on it was a huge mistake. It would be significantly better ride if it had lap bars, like Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia. Mark has said on here why Abyss is rough at times on an earlier thread years back - from what I remember, it is because of the ride running fast because of Perth's hot climate. If Adventure World gives Abyss a coat of paint by next season, I will be very impressed, as they have done something Dreamworld can't seem to grasp.

Well given Mark has a $50 million budget to work with, almost anything could be on the table. However, given Gumbuya World is probably aimed at being a smaller family park, I wouldn't be surprised if the coaster is a Mack powered coaster or some other equivalent. Nothing to see here, move on.

I'm glad DC Rivals is open now. I'm likely flying up to MW in December, but at the moment that isn't locked in. Can't wait to ride this thing!

Add Fuji-Q Highland and Yomiuriland to the list; Dodonpa, Eejanaika, Takabisha and Bandit are great rides from what I've heard.
