  1. From Dusk til Dawn is my pick. Not only was I a fan of the series as well as the original film, this was the only maze that consistently scared me each and every night. Conjuring 2, Friday the 13th, and Wyrmwood were all solid mazes but I found them to be a bit temperamental. You could have a fantastic run through, or it could be extremely lacklustre.
  2. I thought Flash was a just under. Glad to be wrong, though
  3. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but could this be Mack's first ever hyper coaster? I believe most installations have been under the 60m barrier...
  4. All this talk about advertising is reminding me a lot of Superman Escapes "trendy" advertising campaign.
  5. I get excited for almost anything, and the Final Party was no exception. It sounded like such a good time. It was going to be the highlight of this year's Fright Nights for me. I don't think the cancellation is the wrong move, however. Considering the sensitive subjects that Halloween events seem to dance around with, it makes absolute sense to me that they would cancel in light of the events that transpired this past week. Changes to events have happened previously, and I'm sure it will happen again. Even some of the world's best Halloween events have had to make alterations in light of local, national and even international tragedies. Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights in 2001 had to make an immense amount of changes for their season in light of the September 11 attacks. All references to gore had to be removed, titles had to be changed, and even the marketing icon from that year had to be scrapped all in an effort to appeal to the more sensitive audience of the time. Just a year later, Universal had to retool their original concept for that season as a string of child abductions rendered their original Village of the Dammed-esque child icon to be in bad taste. The Final Party would've been an absolute blast if everything had gone according to plan. It would've been a treat to experience everything that the team would have provided. Unfortunately, it would have to have been a perfect world for that to occur, and reality just isn't perfect; it's flawed. Life is unpredictable, and I commend the VRTP team for knowing when to fold. I would much rather remember Fright Nights 2016 as a relatively mediocre event in the shadow of a national tragedy, than to remember it as "The Year of Public Insensitivity".
  6. I've been lucky in that all my interactions with the GP this morning have been quite rational. No ones called for Dreamworld's closure, or lectured about how theme park rides are evil. Most have been explaining to me how Thunder River Rapids was their childhood favourite.
  7. Channel 9 is really needing to get their facts straight. Their Facebook page is claiming four dead on the rapids, Twitter has one dead with three injured, while the live news is saying one dead on the Buzzsaw. Regardless of how many casualties, it's quite sad to see such a serious event transpire at a local park. Let's just hope for the best until we hear offical word at the press conference.
  8. Looks like we shall be hearing some offical information within the next half hour
  9. Queensland Police Service are stating that they're involved in a "critical incident" and cannot confirm anything "with any certainty at the stage". Let's just hope for the best for all those involved in this incident.
  10. Now that it's towards the end of the event, I'll share my thoughts Conjuring 2: Most inconsistent of the year. I've had runs through this maze where I've had heart palpations by the end. I've also had runs where I haven't seen a single actor. It could've been the best of the year if it was just a bit more consistent. The lack of detail in some sections is starting to get noticeable. Bumping into an undecorated wall reminds me that I'm still in a maze. Some hallways also aren't that detailed. Now that the facade is in the spotlight as you enter, the painted brick is starting to look a little bad. I noticed it straight away on the first night but threw that opinion away as it was a dark environment. It's a lot less passable when it's basking in a bright light. All this aside, the new props are great, and I hope they make an appearance in future mazes. They could be a little scarier, but that's just me being an absolute perfectionist. From Dusk til Dawn On the first night, I only had great things to say about this maze. As a fan, I noticed all the references and scenes straight away. Now that I've been through it more times than I care to admit, I'm picking up on a lot of criticisms. Santanico Pandemonium's Snake Dance could be a lot better if she had an actual snake with her. I'm not suggesting that they bring a live reptile into a maze. Spending $20 at Australian Geographic would be all it would need. The two main bar scenes are starting to not look like the source material. This could just be my inner perfectionist coming out, or it could just be that I've been through the maze enough to notice. Friday the 13th Hands down the most visually appealing of all the mazes. The outdoor scenes are much improved over last year. The cabin scenes are also the most convincing of the whole event this year. If every single scene in every maze be as nice as these, then I'd be a happy chap. I didn't find it as scary as last year. While I did flinch every now and again, it's definitely not up to the same level as other mazes have been. Wyrmwood From what was my least favourite maze last year, this has been much improved. Just like Friday the 13th, the outdoor scenes are a lot better. That's not to say it's the best maze of the year. I actually don't have any other thoughts about this one. Maybe it's just not that big of a standout? Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers Let's face it; this is just a glorified photo opportunity. This area felt like dead space. Zombieland felt alive and vibrant. This is comparable to a pathway between two scare actors. Day of the Dead I'm not a fan of how the main precinct seems to just be a massive show/party space. It would be nice to see them utilise this space in a similar manner to the Psychoscarepy: Unleashed scare zone. Keep the actors scaring people, but have little creepy vignettes scattered about. Just like Halloween, this feels like a photo opportunity. At least the makeup is nice. Gothic Hall I can't give my thoughts on something that I haven't experienced. It may be neglectful of me to not go and see the performances, but it also hasn't grabbed my attention and made me want to see the performances. Maybe that's an issue? Apparations The claustrophobic alleyway is a great addition, but the crowd flow is a horrible because of it. It would've been nice to see something a little more creative, but it's still great to see them utilise an idea from some fans. Overall I gotta agree with @reanimated35; the party atmosphere isn't that great. It's nice at the end of the night during the closing show, but I don't go to Fright Nights to have the same experiences I could have by going out clubbing. Just like last year, the event seems like it's trying to form a Frankenstein's monster out of both Carnivale and Fright Nights. Don't try and combine the two. Leave Fright Nights for actual frights and not a spooky themed party. Not as close to last year, or even to some previous years. It felt a little stale in my opinion. Let's hope this isn't the new trend for future Fright Nights
  11. Last night was much better than the First Weekend. The Conjuring 2 made the massive leap to being my favourite maze of the event. All the right changes were made to make it an absolute standout. Queues weren't bad for a sold-out night either. I think anyone who's been in one of the mazes with me can attest to how scared I get. I don't go to Fright Nights to showcase my bravado, I go because I want to have the ever-living shit scared out of me. It honestly disappoints me when I see people being dickheads all because they need to show how tough they think they are.
  12. Do we know how much the After Party costs? Or is the website not working for anyone else?
  13. Damn it. I thought I had escaped from this...
  14. Seeing as how it was opening night, and there's bound to be issues, I thought I'd just share a couple of my initial thoughts. Some mazes may be spoiled, so read with caution... Conjuring 2 From Dusk til Dawn Friday the 13th Wyrmwood Ultimate Terror Tour Overall thoughts For opening night, it felt a little stagnant. It felt a little bit like MW were trying to repeat the success of previous years by following a formula, but it just didn't work in my opinion. I'll be attending a lot over the next couple of weeks, so here's hoping this year's Fright Nights finds its groove
  15. Could I spare some change for gas? I need to get myself away from this place
  16. I feel like I'm going to be visiting a psyche ward very soon. Smash Mouth is going to ruin me
  17. Don't panic too hard just yet. When I went on my tour I received my text message a little later into the evening (around 8:30pm).
  18. The Fright Nights 2016 precincts have been released onto the website...
