  1. Just because some people were riding it didn't mean it that enough people were riding it. Let's go for a bit of an analogy. Let's say you've just opened a takeaway shop and you've just implemented a delivery service. After a month or two, you look back at your books and realize that while the delivery service did get some use, it wasn't pulling enough profit to justify its existence. Would you remove the delivery service and use that money to go towards other ventures which may result in higher profits? Or would you keep it running even though it provides minimal growth for your business? Maybe it's because I've grown up being influenced by playing Tycoon games (looking at you, RCT and SimCity), but if something is stagnating and providing minimal, if not negative, growth I would definitely look towards removing it. It only seems like a natural thought process
  2. I think you looked over a portion of my post... I pretty much stated that while it may have had a lot of its total passengers being classified as tourists, it still wasn't enough to justify it running even more. At least it seemed to have a better lifespan than those monorails in Brockway, Ogdenville and North Harverbrook ...
  3. Looking at the Monorail Removal Project's executive summary, they state that 22% of all passengers were commuters. While that sounds like a great portion of its users were presumably tourists, as an actual method of transport (e.g Translink's offerings of Trains, Buses and Ferries) it just didn't cut the mustard. According to this summary, out of the 1.9 million trips on public transport in Sydney during an average weekday, only 6,000 of those were on the monorail. I can see now why it is no more. To be honest, I don't know why you're fighting so hard for this. Sea World is a business and they will, just like in Sydney, get rid of the monorail if they can no longer justify having it operating. If you were running the park, would you keep an attraction open even though it may be sending you in the red?
  4. That's honestly the best thing I've heard about this new addition. The park really does need some filler to help flesh the day out a bit more, and I'm extremely happy to hear that they're going to try and tackle that issue.
  5. It's not like you're doing anything wrong if you just drive by. You're not jumping fences, you're not stealing corporate secrets, you're just driving down a street. At the end of the day, it's your call but I just think it's not a bizarre thing to be doing. If someone does find a picture or a least sees the track, then we might be able to narrow down a manufacturer. This is going to be a very, very exciting time in our parks. I can't wait to see what's next!
  6. If RCDB's current descriptors of the ride as correct, then I wouldn't completely rule out an RMC. Wicked Cyclone, as with this yet-to-be-named coaster, is listed as being Steel, Sit-Down and Extreme. This could very well happen if this Mack rumour isn't correct. Out of curiosity, do you think we'll see the facades and maybe Boot Hill stay? Or are these demolition works appearing to include all of that sub-Western area?
  7. Whoops, it was TPR that listed it as Mack but RCDB listed it as Steel Sit-Down.
  8. I've been away all weekend and I'm trying to piece together what's going on, so if this has already been covered please forgive me. How valid are these claims that its going to be a Mack coaster? I know RCDB has quite a good track record for these types of things, but it seems quite odd for this to show up out of nowhere. I'm not trying to say I think that this whole Mack discussion is bull, but rather it seems quite odd that we haven't really seen anything other than a single post on TPR and RCDB. Just something a little bit "offical" is all I'm asking for.
  9. Yeah, I get it now. Personally, I don't think the Citytrain is really comparable, but I completely understand your point. From my understanding, it would almost be like if WWF or Pirates of the Carribean didn't have weird indoor chlorine smell. That, to me, is a part of the whole experience and causes memories of some park visits to come flooding back to mind.
  10. I can understand the parks doing the big mass giveaways for the sneak peeks, but what I don't understand is why they don't do any of the physical meetings with some of the enthusiast community. From memory, they would sometimes invite members of FOF for a group session, one of which I believe was viewing a show and providing feedback while also being provided with some small change for your time. Why couldn't they bring something like that into action with the enthusiast community? Speaking for myself, I would gladly donate my time without any sort of subsidisation to help the parks. It's something I enjoy doing and would willingly do for free, and I'm almost certain that many enthusiasts feel the same way. Back to Wet 'n' Wild, I'm sure there not idiots. Complaints have been rolling through like clockwork and they're bound to see how low wait times are averaging. Surely they have some sort of plan brewing so that the can help raise the satisfaction with the park.
  11. I'm not a train enthusiast in the slightest, and I haven't even ridden the DW train since I was about 10 years old, but what is the fascination with the old steam engine? Is it just a matter of having something classic and relatively authentic in the park? Or does it actually provide a different experience?
  12. My god, so there's ANOTHER new attraction coming? Could this be the most projects we've seen our parks undertake at one time? This year is shaping up to be great for the parks. Let's hope they're only good additions!
  13. I might have my information wrong, but wasn't Bermuda built in-house after a quote was higher than Sea World was willing to pay? Either way, I'm really bummed I never had the chance to experience Bermuda back in its heyday. I only got to experience the sub-par version before it closed, with no audio, no fire, and many effects seemingly not working. Let's hope we get something in the same vein one day...
  14. Do Pre-Shows really help the ride not be overwhelmed with guests? I read an article somewhere (can't remember where) that mentioned many of the tricks that parks use in order to make queue lines not seem so daunting (e.g make that 45-minute experience feel like a 15-minute line). One of these, in the same vein as @Richard's post, was pre-shows. The theory is basically that pre-shows trick guests into thinking they aren't waiting in a queue when they actually are. I can see how they can help the queueing experience, but wouldn't the experience still be brought down by sub-par operations? Batman Adventure always flowed through pretty quickly, but I don't think that the pre-show holds responsibility for that. If we put a pre-show on a lower capacity ride, such as Arkham Asylum, you would get out of the pre-show only to have another long wait ahead. A pre-show would only work wonders if the operations are running as smoothly as they possibly can. This feels almost circlejerky right now, but operations have to improve for anything to make an effect.
  15. Anything to get "HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE MRT; METROPOLIS RAPID TRANSIT" out of my head would be beneficial. Also, do many guests actually listen to the video though? Superman Escape constantly asks guests to hold onto the metal handles provided and not the restraint, yet I constantly see a lot of guests grabbing onto the restraint. Would updating the video actually help in terms of operations?
  16. Every single technical drawing I've ever seen or worked on has just been on white paper with black (or in rare cases, red) dimensions. Only time that's different is when CAD decides to make the default colour scheme black and Day-Glo Green. Maybe others have noticed differences?
  17. At the end of the day, no sources have said whether the Show Stage is the building marked for demolition. For all we know, the demolition permit could be for a small shed out behind WWF or even an unrelated project.
  18. I think everyone has knocked it right on the head here. @AlexB is absolutely correct in the need for crowd-absorbing attractions, but with the way that the park is heading, what would be considered a good "sponge" this still fits within the current ride lineup? Walkthrough attractions seem to have really gone out of favour at MW, as has "Behind the Scenes" style attractions, which makes me wonder what could soak up the peak crowds while also retaining the same experiences that the park seems to strive towards. As for stacking, I've always noticed that GL has had horrible operations. Plenty of times the cars have been left on the final brake run while the OP's are only just loading guests towards the air gates. @Noxegon I know from your trips that you've been on El Locos before, but have any had operations this bad? I really love MW, it's everything I love in a park, but seeing these operations not only during peak periods makes me almost want to say DW is better. If anyone from VRTP is reading (and I really hope they are), please focus some of your efforts on these issues. Any day where someone's experience is less than great is a failure IMHO
  19. That's a good point, although I hope they aren't slowing down since. Seeing you seem to be again Atari, what do you think about RCTW?
  20. Atari has been pretty bad, but I just think they've made such good progress lately that I'm being a bit forgiving of the publisher. The only thing that could stop my positive outlook is if the final beta is in a complete shambles.
  21. While Planet Coaster looks great from the get-go, RCTW has made some huge progress since the initial trailers. If they've kept that level of work, RCTW may just be my pick. At the end of the day, I'm probably going to buy both.
  22. I don't think they would, considering almost all of the people that pass through that gift shop don't have any form of payment on them.
  23. So Superman will be down for a good chunk of the year. Makes me wonder what could happen... For those who have a bit more knowledge on the refurbishment of rides, is this something to keep an eye on? I have barely any knowledge when it comes to refurbs, so I don't know whether a 77-day refurb is something that is considered normal for a decade-old Intamin Accelerator
  24. In my honest opinion, I don't think changing the track would do much difference to help make the ride look more visually appealing. Each individual car is a different bright colour, which makes it very hard to have a cohesive colour scheme. If they have a colour scheme based on the red lead car, while it would match the green car, all the others would still clash. Same goes for all the other cars as well. The best possible scenario would be going for a white or silver colour scheme for the track, but even then I don't think it'll be perfect. Actually, I think that summarises the Cyclone/Sidewinder pretty well; it will never be perfect and we're always going to find fault.
  25. My intention wasn't trying to say that this whole scenario of Eureka being refurbished is impossible or unlikely, but rather trying to get some form of evidence to help me believe djrappa's original statement. Someone claiming that some of the park's representatives were wrong on a relatively secret matter is a little bit hard to take without any sort of corroboration. However, djrappa's has been pretty reliable and I believe his statement, at least more so than some other members.
