All rides are different, though generally it goes like this: 1. Make sure that Maintenance have already checked the ride and indicated that its working. 2. Do a check to make sure that it is indeed working properly 3. Admit guests, checking for things like height requirements, injuries, and making sure guests are wearing footwear. 4. Make sure guests are seated correctly ("Sir you may want to sit UNDER that restraint. Just a suggestion though" ) then check any restraints that need checking. 5. Check that the ride area is clear of guests, entry gates are closed, and dispatch. 6. Watch ride, make sure that everyone is behaving themselves, and that the ride area is staying clear. 7. When ride cycle stops, unload guests. Repeat steps 2 through 7 till you think you'll go insane. 8. Go on a break, or (if its the right time of day) turn off ride, go home. Forget preceding day with a few beers. There's not much too it, which is probably one of the main drawbacks; its not the most mentally stimulating job out there. There are perks to the job (free theme park tickets mostly, plus a few others that local pubs kick in), but for the most part, its a good lifestyle. Its not the sort of job you have to "take home" with you, in that even the most stressful busy day can be left at work and you don't go home stressed. Its also a pretty social sort of job, generally speaking the crews are young and almost always the people are cool to hang out with.

Which ONE? WnW, easily. Ok, so BRO is an aqua racer with a helix and the Green room is the Tornado with an extra half helix. I'm sure with the Tornado it doesn't make much difference given that both are probably designed to drop riders into the funnel at the same speed. BRO has the helix over aqua racer, but aqua racer does have the timers which really make that ride what it is. Pro's and Con's on both sides. That leaves the Rip and Hydro coaster on the WWW side as rides with no WnW Equivalent. Now even by all accounts they are both good rides, on the WnW side there's still all the speed slides (3 total), black hole and terror canyons (4 slides), Mammoth Falls (2 slides, even if they are the same), Calypso Beach, White Water Mountain (4 more slides) and twister with no WWW equivalent. If you've only got the chance to visit one, go to WnW, its by far the better park, and extended trading means your assured to get a ride on everything even if you don't rock up till 5pm. On the other hand, if you've already been to WnW before, give WWW a try, its something new and different.

My favorite part of the dog ads is the tiny line of text at the bottom of the screen that says "No dogs allowed, except those shown in this commercial". The story starts to unravel I'm with GoGoBoy, more combo ads, Whitewater World is at its strongest when Dreamworld is involved.

Well for those playing along at home, Seaworld's first major ride in over 11 years is now open!

OK guys, here's the long and short of it. If you do misbehave on rides, wet or dry, one of three things will happen: 1. You'll get away with it, nothing will happen. If you happen to achieve this result, then thank you're lucky stars that your able to tell your friends about your idiotic behavior. 2. You will be caught, and evicted from the park, without refund. 3. You will be injured, and possibly killed as a result of acting like an idiot. One such story is easily found on Ride Accidents, and should serve as a reminder of the dangers of breaking park rules: I recommend that site for anyone who is thinking about breaking park rules. More quick highlights reveal: We here at roller-coaster.com.au take violating park rules seriously, and in no way encourage others to break the rules, they are there for your safety after all. This one isn't up for debate, breaking rules and misbehaving is simply not on. Closed.

Village steps up with Happy Feet (Source Gold Coast Bulletin. Ok, my thoughts on this are quite involved, so proceed past this point with caution; I'm pretty sure that if you look through some old posts on this site, your bound to come up with some anti Village Roadshow sentiment. Hell, a couple of years ago it wasn't just on this site, it was everywhere, Village seemed as if it completely lost the plot on everything they'd been doing. Well, in the last month or so they have come out and highlighted just what went wrong with the cinema operation expansion. Basically, in many markets there weren't many screens, and Village (like others) figured that if you increase the number of screens you would increase the number of cinema goers. Sadly that idea pretty much bombed everywhere (Australia, Greece and Singapore are listed as exceptions) and instead of growing the number of customers in these new markets, it was just same critical mass divided over more screens. The company sustained substantial losses on its cinema operation division. That was a couple of years ago, and things as they stand now have progressed quite a way; the company sold off its under performing cinema's, and re-structured many of their own divisions, and most recently, bought out Warner and Nara's share of the theme park business, and now have 100% control there, and for a change, have what look like a string of hits. Even better then the Gold Coast Bulletin claims, according to the USA Today dated December 6, Happy Feet has topped the US box office for the third consecutive week, and has now netted more then US$140million. Where is this all going you ask? Well since buying out Warner's share of the theme parks, Village have really been doing a good job on the Gold Coast. The number of shows at AOS is going to 2 a night over Xmas, there are night events at MW and SW, as well as different events for WnW besides the Dive in Movies, and even the ticketing has been improved since Village's rule. Add to that the different new attractions opening this year, and various improvements in the way the parks are run behind the scenes, then its hard not to get excited about the way the Gold Coast parks will go in the future. But there's a catch, Village is now looking at expanding its theme parks business into Europe and possibly Singapore. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't expanding one of the businesses overseas exactly what got them into trouble in the first place? I don't doubt they are a better theme park company then they received credit for, and the positive changes in the past few months are testament to that, but given the poor performance of the cinema expansion overseas, will a theme park expansion overseas net the same results? All I'm saying, is that if they do expand into Singapore and Greece (two of the sites indicated by the company, which also happen to be where they had the most success with the cinema expansion) they had want to know what they're doing.

The building is used by the "Looney Tunes Musical Revue", and since there was no mention of the stage show on the map, many guests had difficulty finding it, even with directions.

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
joz replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don't think it really needs an extra tower, so long as you can keep cycles short that queue should move relativly quickly. Besides, on a double tower the the view sucks on half the seats. -
New Movie World Night Event - 23 December
joz replied to matty_o_911's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Alright kids, chill out. DW_rulz, no need to jump down his throat (I mean, why do the digging for someone if you're just going to be short with them?) and there's no need for any follow up. Besides, people often read these forums to research the parks and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if someone came into this topic wondering the same thing (can APs be used for the Xmas event?) and now the answer is there, and people know that they can't. Still, for $35 (or $80 for a family of 4? Can you say bargin!) I don't think not being able to use your annual pass should be a good enough excuse for not attending. -
RCDB covers roller coasters, Batwing is not a coaster. Case closed.

I seem to recall being told they've spent upwards of a million on the ride, installed some new systems and whatnot, but it still doesn't work. As it stands now there isn't any money left to spend on it, but after they spent so much money on it they can't take it down, so they're currently trying to get the money up to finish it off.

Well at the end of the day, Seaworld Eye is a traveling wheel, and as such, it's most likely to have been designed to be assembled quickly.

Agreed. I thought White Water World was the best of the names listed, but not for a beach theme. Not that it really matters, I don't think WWW will be known for great story telling and themeing, but as another water park, and those god awful dog head things.
-
2000? Why on Earth would you spend $60mill on a water park and limit entry to 2000? I realise there needs to be a cap, and for good reason, but 2000? I seriously doubt its that low, and if it is that low, then THAT will be the reason you haven't seen an ad for the place yet. When WnW can pull between 6000 and 8000 on a busy day in summer then 2000 just seems so under done.

Tetris freefall, I love it! Maybe do the retro thing and add the Pac Man's Playpen that Great Adventure used to have. If you haven't seen the old ad for it thats been doing the rounds recently, check it out here Back on Topic: I don't think there's anything wrong with basing a ride on an the genre (Lets face it, Wild West Falls never had anything to do with the movie "Wild Wild West", and the "Western Action Show" wasn't really based on any specific movie), and seem to recall saying something to that effect ages ago. And it WOULD suit the Wild West theme on its own with minimal themeing, the way its described by Gazza sounds pretty much right to me. I can imagine WVTPs and Intamin would have a pretty good working relationship now, so get them in and get cracking.

I don't think most people care, though strangely enough, when Cyclone opened I seem to recall a few people saying it was exactly the same as Corkscrew (due to the track style) and gave it very little credit. So as petty as it sounds, I think there is some merit in making sure that there are a few different track styles. Having said that though, Cedar Point has 16 coasters, and when there's that many, you don't notice these things

If House of Wax was a box office success, or even a good movie, then I'd say it'd be a no brain-er to have as an attraction based on it. However, since it was neither of those then I think House of Wax is a film best left forgotten. I like the idea of a Wooden Coaster, though what to theme it too? I haven't seen anything coming out any time soon that lends itself to a wooden coaster. Personally, I'd like to see an interactive Warcraft ride based on the movie. Really, Warcraft is a pretty big franchise these days, and as far as I'm concerned, may as well be considered a cult, and a well executed shoot 'em up dark ride would probably be a draw even if the movie flopped. So long as the interactivity was played up, and the ride had a good "thrill" element to it, I think it'd go well. The other thing that draws me to a Warcraft ride is a comment Mark Shapiro made during IAAPA. During a speech, me mentions about the amusement industry being in competition with other forms of entertainment as much as it is with other amusement operators. Shapiro may be onto something here; Video games would of course have to be a major forms of competition against parks in general, and a ride that mobilises gamers would, IMHO, be a good way to combat this. Plus given its a Warner Brothers movie, it seems like it'd fit like a glove anyway. The only issue to me is if there's room in the Matrix building for a major ride.

B&M don't do launches on their coasters. The only one of their rides that launches is Hulk at IOA, however, B&M didn't design the launch system, nor did they alter designs of the trains to incorporate the launch.

Wonderland Employees need your support
joz replied to Scared of Jack's topic in Theme Park Discussion
OK, people make mistakes, apology excepted. Now move along people, nothing to see here, closed. -
You'd like to see one of what exactly?

Alright kids, this one has run its course. In fact, it ran its course many months ago. Wonderland girl, please don't call Wonderbus a jerk, as he is very insecure and calling him a jerk might hurt his feelings... Ok probably not, but regardless, lets not resort to personal remarks ok? Closed

If its not busy, its quicker to cycle one train empty rather then unbuckle and fasten every harness every time the ride comes into the station, so perhaps that might have been what you saw.
-
Yay! I guessed right without knowing, awesome! Yeah, its cheap, probably won't suck up that many people, at least nothing compared to whar Blue Lagoon offered (Genrally these things run into the low hundereds in terms of PPH), but given how good DW has become at hyping stuff up, it'll probably do well. The Tomb Raider walk through had a bigger build up then any Village attraction I can think of (with the possible exception of the Polar Bears) and assuming a similar situation here, I wouldn't be surprised if numbers stay effectivly steady for another year despite not having a new ride, and the loss of Blue Lagoon.

Steel. I haven't been on any "Good" wooden coasters, but those that are considered good are said to be like riding a steel coaster. To me that there is the answer, if a wooden coaster has to be like riding a steel coaster to be considered any good, then that's a pretty good case for steel. I'll concede one point though; wooden coasters for some reason seem to inspire better layouts. If you gave a wooden coaster layout to any company that makes steel coasters, and ran it with more of a wooden coaster train design (IE lapbars and nothing around the head at all) then it'd probably be number one.

Alright kids, lets not turn this into one of those "this site Vs that site" convos, it doesn't need to spill over on these forums. I'm a fan of AAL and stop by for a read once every couple of days. I also have nothing against ZC. As far as the site not being up on time thing goes, I'll accept the reply that "stuff happens".
