2015 in Dreamworld - ABC Kids World, V8 Supercars and more
Jobe replied to Reanimated35's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Really? Based on what? Surely our 2 biggest cities in the nation could support a theme park- Sydney did it for nearly 20 years!! A decade is a long time....I feel certain that either Sydney or Melbourne will have a non water theme park of its own by 2025....population growth in that time would make a scenario for one in either city a very viable option. The success of Wet and Wild Sydney, the continued expansion of Adventure World in Perth-its only a matter of time before one of the big theme park companies looks to opportunities in Sydney and Melbourne. Just my opinion. -

Hmm..maybe an underground tunnel to a viewing bubble in Tiger Island itself? Or similarly some sort of overhanging viewing platform? I don't really know but they could get really creative........... -
Luna Park Sydney- Future rides and attractions
Jobe replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
This is just in from Luna Park: Sounds decent without giving too much away. Not sure where this will be located in the park either, so its difficult to ascertain its relative size. If i was to hazard a guess , then my money would be on the Popcorn Hall space under the Wild Mouse. This was utilised by the Prison Break Live! attraction a few years ago but this then would make the attraction only temporary, as they utililse this as their parties/functions room. It is interesting that it does say that this will appear "These school holidays" but without giving it an end timeframe. Perhaps if it proves popular enough, then it could have a permanent place? Doctor Hoffmeister, for those who do not know, is tied into the theme of the Rotor as its creator, so this tie in is a nice touch. -
No one is saying that Seaworld doesn't need 2 or 3 quality flats. I agree wholeheartedly with this. However, a ride as iconic as Corkscrew NEEDS to be replaced with a coaster that will similarly become as famous as its predecessor. This ultimately means a coaster of some form. What that form may take is open to speculation, but the fact is that Seaworld needs to find a suitable replacement for its most enduring ride. The point is that Corkscrew helped make Seaworld what it is today. It would be a miscalculation if the powers that be did not install a coaster to fill the skyline in the same way that Corkscrew did successfully for 32 years Now if within this footprint room for 2 quality flat rides can be found, then this will be a win win situation. I personally would love to see an Intamin Megalite or something similar from Mack go here. As I stated before, the removal of Corkscrew has freed up a large tract land. Seaworld has not had this much land to work with since Jet Rescue was installed. Lets hope they make some very calculated decisions regarding the best use of this space as it will impact the park for years to come. I am definitely hoping that sanity prevails and a coaster is the choice,

Luna Park Sydney- Future rides and attractions

Wow. Just wow. A little more research on your part is required. The slides that are currently in LPS and have been since 1935 are in Coney Island. IN Luna Park. There is NO WAY they could be converted to water slides nor is there a reason to do so. Terrible idea. Put it to bed now. Move on. Well those 2 places you mentioned are the only spaces of note within LPS and it would make logical sense that if a coaster was to appear then it would be in one of these 2 spaces... There has been no solid indication whether a new coaster is part of their future plans, they are all just idle speculation. One would hope that it will become a reality,of course. Absolutely 100% agree with this. The Wild Mouse is a classic attraction that does not require tinkering with or changing. Another terrible idea. I can definitely see a coaster like Iron Shark being installed into LPS. I have also been advocating the use of the corridor in between the Big Top and the Cliff face as a possible use for a coaster or attraction for a long time. Barring that, moving the Tumblebug to the Flying Saucer site and using this space for a possible coaster seems like the best possible solution for mine. This would leave Maloney's corner free for flats and rotation of holiday rides. -
Nah an iconic coaster was torn down. Its only fitting that something similar replaces it. Love the idea of Formula X. It would be a winner. Remember this is one of the biggest parcels of land that Seaworld has now suddenly become available for quite some time. They need to do this area justice and plan for it to be 100% utilised to maximum effect. I echo those who wishes to see a new coaster plus at least 2 flats be installed- this would restore the balance of attraction versus ride that is currently in flux at the park.

Luna Park Sydney- Future rides and attractions

Its a nice idea but I think you will find that the heritage listing on The Wild Mouse would preclude the type of changes you are suggesting. It definitely would cover the track and structure although the cars themselves could possibly be revamped. However, i do not think you could intrinsically change the ride in the manner you have intimated. Really, for what you are suggesting, you would be far better off constructing a new coaster type to complement the Wild Mouse. This would be the best scenario for the park. LPS desperately needs another coaster, its just a matter of room, will and vision as to what we could see installed to make this a reality. -

Luna Park Sydney - the future with Wet'n'Wild
Jobe replied to JulieLovis's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Great pick up Yoshi. This sounds like a pretty good attraction for LPS to add. Talked to LPS today and this is what they had to say about Mystery Manor. So it appears the attraction is being developed in-house. I like the idea of a walkthrough attraction for the park. It makes sense to have a horror walk through attraction as any type of ghost train ride will only raise the terrible spectre of the tragedy from 1979. As to its location, I would guess that they would utilise the Popcorn Hall space under the Wild Mouse. This was previously utilised for the Prison Break Live! walkthrough a few years ago and is a sizable space. I hope that it at least sticks around until the Xmas holidays if they make the decision not to make it permanent. As has been shown by Aussie World's Illusionarium walkthrough, we can do detailed and highly themed rides. Hopefully this will follow in the same pedigree as that attraction. Still, its a promising sign for the park! -

Luna Park Sydney- Future rides and attractions

A Vekoma Boomerang coaster would definitely fit in Maloney's corner quite easily with both drops going over Coney Island. However they are a design that is over 30 years old ( the ride debuted in 1984). Its not a bad idea but I think I would rather see a newer design be installed. Just my opinion. -

Agree 100% here AlexB. Any coaster that is ever introduced to LPS HAS to be sympathetic to the park's historic elements. It would be extremely costly, however , to allow for this and any coaster would have to be a custom designed if it was going to be of any large design. Unfortunately, whilst I agree with you in principle, the fact of the matter is that both the Big Top and The Crystal Palace function centres are very important cash cows for the park. They are not going anywhere in the foreseeable future Without these, it is debatable whether the park would survive without the financial backing that these two venues give. When the park re-opened in 2004 , there was a concsious decision to diversify the income flow and keep the park as close to a fun park as possible. Whilst both venues have helped to make the park financially viable, I do feel that there is an imbalance between the amusement park and the functions side of the business. Another purpose of this thread is to search for ideas and actions that we can explore and point the park towards hopefully in an effort to redress this balance. In saying all that, and keeping in mind that the Big Top is not going anywhere, there are really only 2 places where a new coaster could go. I would certainly move the Tumblebug and utilise this space for a compact coaster- but what could we fit up there? In my mind there are not too many options. Having looked at Gazza's suggestion of the Iron Shark, I am more than convinced that this would be a brilliant option for the park. I am fairly certain that this footprint would fit in the Tumblebug space. this I think would be top of my wishlist. Of course I would also love to see a Maurer Sohne spinner and these look like they can be a lot of fun. These too, are fairly compact and could probably be accommodated in this space. I have never ridden one though, and would love to hear from someone who has? ( Gazza what is your opinion on these? ). And although El Locos have attracted attention for all the wrong reasons with Green Lantern's incident, who wouldn't want to ride one at LPS? This would also be a great addition and one whose footprint should fit in the required space. The other coaster that to me would also be a good fit would be the Zamperla Motocoaster. They seem to offer good thrills in a tight and compact package and would also fit in the space required. Once again, I have not had the pleasure of riding one of these models so would appreciate any input on them ( Gazza I know you have ridden one at Darien Lake- thoughts?) Of course one of these could easily be added somewhere in the park as well...... If LPS were to get another coaster, I think it would be closer in spirit to one of these examples. I cannot see them doing the custom layout option with cost and space being the prohibitive factor. Would you guys be happy with any of these options for a second coaster at LPS? Given that a few of their flats are aging and need replacing, what would you guys like to see introduced to complement this second coaster ( whatever it would be) and the Wild Mouse? -
Yeah agree wholeheartedly!! Maybe instead of wishing for B&M install in Australia, we should instead be looking at somethimg similar to these? Helix at Liseberg looks absolutely amazing! If a park here obtained one of these coasters by Mack it would be an absolute gane changer for the Australian theme park industry. Bring one on NOW!!!

According to RCDB, there have been 6 installed but there is only one left in operation. Simple concept.....imagine one at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains!!

Luna Park Sydney- Future rides and attractions

Interesting-I like the Iron Shark very much. Its a great little compact coaster that does not take up much real estate. I love the idea of the S&S Free Spin also...to me LPS is crying out for a coaster of this stature. The only problem is the lack of space. Where would you install them? Does the installation come at the cost of space for other rides? Sure Maloney's Corner certainly has available space for a coaster with a good sized footprint but it also currently occupies the majority of other rides in the park- rides that if this space is taken, in all likelihood will not have room to stay. In my mind, any coaster install has to be sympathetic to the space available and also to the real estate taken up by other attractions. It has to be a good balance. Keeping this in mind, my preference would be to see the Tumblebug removed/relocated and a compact coaster put in this space. This then would leave Maloneys's Corner for a new selection of flats. Alternatively, a small coaster could be placed at the very rear of Coney Island in Maloneys Corner, whilst still leaving the northern end free for flat rides. Does anyone have any ideas for freeing up space at LPS? -
Not sure if anyone has seen this before but wow!! Dont think that these would meet Australian safety standards but they would be a great addition to some of our smaller parks like Jamberoo and Adventure World!!. They would be a perfect addition for any park that currently has a toboggan run. pipeline.ogv

lol...Maybe the name loses something in translation? The ride looks awesome though. Who is the manufacturer? I would say Intamin but I am not 100% sure.....

The recent welcome news that LPS Hair Raiser drop ride has been formally approved is a welcome sigh of relief for the park. Last year, Peter Hearne, the Managing Director of LPS, stated in an interview that the park had a 5 year plan to reinvest in some new rides and attractions. He acknowledged that some of the current ride line up is aging and fast approaching its use by date. The Hair Raiser was the first attraction of this promised reinvestment to materialise. However, the planning bungle associated with the installation of the ride has probably seen the plans deferred from their original timeline. Now that the issue with Hair Raiser has been put to bed, LPS can now once more focus on the future. The purpose of this thread is twofold. Keeping such speculation as grounded in reality as possible, I would like to explore firstly, what choices for a new coaster could LPS possibly install? Secondly, what new flats would you introduce, and which of the current rides would you perhaps retain? In making these choices, please try to keep these suggestions and speculation as real as could possibly occur. In making these suggestions, consideration of LPS's past ( its chequered history with its surrounding residents is well documented ), any heritage details must be acknowledged in any planning ( for example, the demolition and removal of Coney Island to install a huge coaster simply will not happen) and also space considerations and ride placement is a must. If you have a grand master plan for LPS, then by all means lets hear it. I would be particularly interested in some of the longer term members views on this topic. I would love for this thread to generate some great ideas that could then be possibly presented to LPS as a discussion point. It would also be fantastic if somehow a representative from LPS could post in the forums and add value to the discussion, much like Mark Shaw does for Adventure World and representatives from Jamberoo and Scenic World have done in the past. So- what flat ride out there do you feel would be a perfect addition to LPS lineup? Is there a coaster that would be a brilliant inclusion? Think outside the box certainly but above all, lets try and keep it real. I look forward to any discussion generated!

Luna Park Sydney - the future with Wet'n'Wild
Jobe replied to JulieLovis's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Thanks. Its a shame really. The idea as a concept is great but the execution and the design flaws lets it down. I wonder if Zamperla recognise that the Volare is viewed as less than satisfactory by riders and enthusiasts. If so they could do some work on the cars which seem to be the weakest point on the ride. Still, for a ride that is almost universally derided, there are still 9 examples of it around the world....... -
Thrillseeker. It has now been trailerised and is Australia's largest mobile coaster called the Taipan. Now getting back to B&M's.......

Yep at least it will stop people pre-judging and shooting from the hip..its a great idea. Of course for those tags to be enacted, there must be official confirmation by Richard that these posters are official representatives of their respective parks/organisations. What do we say? Can we get Mark from AW and Jamberoo Action Park the first recipients of these "official representative" tag? This could also be used as a means and incentive to invite and encourage other official representatives from Australian parks and beyond to contribute to these boards. Is it possible Richard or is it an idea that you would entertain for the board?

Cairns Adventure Waters - 2016 opening. Construction begins.
Jobe replied to keadz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Its quite simple. Compared to Theme parks , water parks are relatively cheap to build and construct. Also given the climate in Cairns is tropical, don't you think that a water park is the obvious choice? I am actually surprised that it has taken this long for one to actually be built. This is great for Cairns and far North Queensland. -
