  1. Nah they are just name changes the actual ride is still in existence. Mine are- Corkscrew Eureka Thunderbolt Demon Bush Beast Beastie Chipmunk Space Invader 2(Blackpool) Metropolis (LPM) I would have loved to have added Big Dipper at LPS and LPM and Geronimo at LPS but I was either too young or never got the chance.
  2. Agree 100% AlexB. In this situation , where a large commercial venture is at risk, cooler heads must prevail. LPS must focus on firstly ensuring that Hair Raiser receives the proper planning permission to ensure it remains standing and operating. They must then do a self audit on their operations to keep this situation from ever occurring again. Hopefully it will be sorted quickly and with a minimum of fuss so that LPS can focus on their future plan of renewal for their rides and attractions. They cannot afford to lose momentum because of this. Hair Raiser currently remains open and operating as per normal. Lets hope this is a postive sign.
  3. Thanks for the report Ash. I think its great that a little park like Aussie World has initiated a Halloween event like this and its great to see it was a success.
  4. For the most part it is Brad. LPS is protected by legislation which limits any litigation against the park from noise complaints. You will notice that the residents have abandoned any claim against the park for noise issues and even in this latest saga, noise has not been cited as a complaint. Several lawsuits against the park for noise issues have been defeated in the high court and that avenue is now closed to them. I am sure there are limits to the legislation, but under normal operating conditions, the park is free to operate without fear of legal challenge in this regard. I am annoyed , however, that LPS management have let this oversight occur and put Hair Raiser and themselves in this position!! It's a case of bad mismanagement in my opinion!
  5. Surely Cyclone can operate with any number of passengers--- be it 1 or 10? I have seen them test coasters with only one passenger and most can send through the train without any on board as a test run. Weight does not seem to be the deciding factor to me.
  6. It appears that there is an issue with LPS Hair Raiser ride. According to an article in the Daily Telegraph, the ride was built without D.A approval from the planning department and could be ordered to be dismantled. Here is the link to the article. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/north-shore/luna-parks-hair-raiser-could-be-torn-down-after-revelations-it-had-no-da-approval/story-fngr8h9d-1227104814114 It appears that there was some confusion over LPS interpretation of their existing approval to make alterations to rides for operational reasons-which has been rejected by the department. The article also has one of the village idiot residents making an appearance. Hopefully this is just media over hype and they get the approval quickly- it would be a tragedy for Hair Raiser to be dismantled. I do fear for any further new rides that the park wants to introduce-surely the park has a good legal team that can sort out this mess! Not happy!!!!
  7. Ok so you know 2. Any reader of Wikipedia could tell you that. So just because you know of only 2, that is your credible evidence for stating that there is definitely waaaaay less than 12? Please. Its hardly exhaustive research. As I stated before, I know Dave Burton and he has proven to be very reliable with the information contained on his website. If it states that the number is close to 12 then I am going to take that at face value. Sorry to say, it is far more reliable than anything you have posted so far, in my eyes. Glad to hear it. Because it certainly did not sound like it was knowledge you had in your other post. And why not? That's putting the horse before the cart a bit isn't it? It depends on the ride. Depends on many other factors. Only LPS management could confidently answer this question with any accuracy. The point is- I don't know...and neither do you. Please explain also WHY they would remove the Big Dipper entrance. You have mentioned it several times in your postings- you might want to see it removed, or think that it is superfluous to LPS's needs but you have yet to come up with ONE credible reason as to why the park SHOULD remove it. As far as I am concerned, it is an impressive piece of theming that aesthetically, is very important to the Midway. If they were going to remove it, the time would have been when Big Dipper was relocated to Dreamworld. I would suggest that it is here to stay and will be incorporated into any forthcoming new ride for the area.
  8. Oh really?? Care to back that up with any solid evidence? I am more inclined to believe Dave Burton and his reputable research on his website than someone who has no solid reputation at all. Yeah I do like the Techno Jump idea but I am thinking that Tumblebug will be around for little while yet. You do realise that Tumblebug, Flying Saucer, U- Drive and Spider are all recycled from historical rides of yesteryear? This is not a new idea. I would , however, support new ride installations with theming acknowledging the parks history-The Whip, Hey Dey, The Wild Cat, Calypso are all names that spring to mind that could be re-used. What makes you so sure that they will install a Larson Super Loop? There has been nothing from the park and nothing to indicate that this is going to happen, other than your idle speculation. Once again, groundless with no evidence to back up. Just because Six Flags are installing several of this type of ride has no bearing whatsoever on what LPS will do. I agree 100% with GoGoboy- it would be a terrible idea if they were even thinking of installing one. My mother always told me that self praise is no recommendation......
  9. Interesting! Of course for any new ride to be placed on the slab. it would mean the removal/relocation of the Tumblebug. The concrete slab , as it stands, originally supported the Big Dipper station and track supports. If it can handle the weight of the Tumblebug, then I am confident it could accommodate a new compact coaster, if one was to be installed. The question that needs to be asked, however , is can the Flying saucer "pad" handle the weight of the Tumblebug? If it can then this would be my choice on where to relocate it in the park, freeing up the necessary space on the Tumblebug site for a new coaster. You are correct in saying that some of the LPS offices are still located behind the Flying saucer site. Agree with your comments RE the Flying Saucer. They are such a unique ride and now that LPS unit is gone, there are only about 12 left in existence. Here is some info about the Huss UFO taken from Dave Burton's Amusement Extravaganza page. "The HUSS UFO premiered in 1978 based on their successful Enterprise design. With passengers standing up and facing inwards, an entirely different ride sensation results to the enterprise; similar to a Roundup but with a greater diameter and incline of 87° Holding 48 standing adults or children in twelve 4-person gondolas, this 20m/66ft diameter HUSS monster holds a commanding presence as one of the best standup gravity ride sensations around. UFO was never quite as popular as the Enterprise with approximately 12 units in existence mainly in Europe, two in North America and one in Sth Africa America." I actually think a Techno Jump would be an excellent choice for a ride at LPS, but I don't think it should be placed on the Flying Saucer site. Techno Jumps are great family rides, a little bit unique and also no park in Australia has one. I think it would prove extremely popular.
  10. Great update thanks!! Could you post one for Aussie World? Its one park we havent heard a lot from lately yet in the last 12 months it has had significant change so it would be interesting to see the contrast. Thanks in advance!
  11. lol you can definitely ask just don't pull a Jobe!!! He might not like it!
  12. Not a problem. I have no problem with anyone giving an opinion as long as it is recognized as such. Hopefully with Pirates Revenge coming as a Holiday ride, their will be scope for maybe one or two more other rides to join it. Pirates Revenge is very popular and was a holiday ride in 2011/12. Its great to see it return. I must admit I was hoping for Crazy Coaster to make an appearance, though. Would love to see LPS return to 2 coasters, even if its just for a seasonal event.
  13. Luna Park does not have a lot but please let them keep the theming they DO have in the park. There is no real reason to remove it and aesthetically the park is better for them both being there. *sigh* I sound like a broken record.....Is that your opinion or do you have some real knowledge? Please state if it is opinion or your source please. It is much appreciated.
  14. It certainly looks like an awesome coaster. Welcome back by the way KindaCaCa. You have been away too long.
  15. Good pickup!! And it also shows that the Pirates Revenge will be at least one of the Xmas Holiday rides. Hopefully, one or 2 more will be announced!. As for the Flying Saucer site, I did not expect a new ride replacement in time for these Xmas holidays. Hopefully we will see something by next Easter. Also it does show that the site will be a temporary bar and viewing platform for the NYE fireworks and harbour event so its good to see the space is not going to waste.
  16. On reflection, you are probably right here Mr Me. The Flying Saucer site would have to be modified but if the ride was turned around to swing parallel with the cliff top then I believe it would be feasible. It would be a smaller model that would be the best option but damn it would be a great investment for LPS. Here are the specs: General Specifications Height: 65’ or 100’ (20m or 30m) Footprint: 8’ to 15’ (2.42m to 4.6m) Capacity: 16, 32 or 40 passengers 240 to 1,000 people per hour Average Speed: 50 to 60 mph (80 to 97 kph) Minimum Passenger Height: 48” (1.22m) Power requirements U.S.: 480 V / 3 Phase / 60 Hz Intl: 400 Volt / 3 Phase / 50 Hz Power Consumption: 161 kw (32-passenger model) I haven't as yet had the opportunity to ride one, is there anyone on the boards who has that could please share their experience of this ride- I am very interested to hear opinions on this! Thanks!
  17. Its possible but I would rather keep that location for a new coaster myself. It would have to be a Maloney's Corner installation for mine.
  18. Bazinga!!! :-) A Screaming Swing is a great idea Yoshi and would fit the bill for LPS perfectly. Thrilling ride and an Australian first!! However it would have to go somewhere else in the park as the Flying Saucer location would not be suitable.
  19. Agreed! The introduction of Hair Raiser was very important as it was the first new ride installed in tbe park since the 1995 incarnation. It also showed that the owners are serious about maintaining the park as a fun park. The future is extremely bright and hopefully bigger things are to come. ( Dare I even think new Big Dipper??? New coaster? I fervently hope so!)
  20. There is a lot of difference between Thrillseeker and Corkscrew/Seaviper. Seaviper was an icon of the park and I am betting that its demise was fairly unexpected. The park did everything they could to keep that ride running. Now in the wake of its demise, I think that the park will be planning very carefully for that space and what should be another iconic ride to replace it. This is just a feeling and not due to any inside knowledge. I am hoping for a new coaster with several attractions underneath or around it. This would give the park an opportunity for another big coaster and several other smaller rides to add to the overall park ride count. Fingers crossed!
  21. Wow not good Julielovis! I haven not been there yet either but this is really making me think twice- I do not want my family to see scenes like this! Think I will stick to our annual trip to Jamberoo-been going there for the last 3 years and we have not been disappointed yet!
  22. Great trip report Iwerks and awesome pics! Yeah the Ghost train facade is definitely incomplete and should be finished before Xmas. Loved seeing a great nod to LPM's past with the Cyclone travelling ride in for the holidays-back in the 70's one of these was permanently installed at the park. It was called the Scat then. I also love the Eyerly Spider-they are becoming rarer and rarer these days!! The new food court will be a quantum leap in what the park can offer for dining options and also undercover! Now if the park can install another small compact coaster within the year plus the reintroduction of modern examples of either the Rotor, River Caves or Giggle Palce then I will be a happy man indeed! Have a great trip to Seaworld!
  23. No nothing as of yet , unfortunately. It is still in the realms of rumour at this stage. I asked the park last week for a comment and they were very noncommittal.
  24. Bugger- I was hoping for an update on the restoration works inside! Good to see you are having a good day Iwerks!! Looking forward to seeing some pics mate!
  25. Don't be impertinent. I have no issue with speculation- we all indulge with that from time to time. I was merely correcting something that you posted that you were passing off as true information. This is far from the case, as has been amply pointed out. Be my guest, speculate away- as long as you do not try and say that any speculation you post is based on truth- either by ignorance or by design. You will get called for it every time.
