  1. And from the placement of those footers around the new flume trough it would appear that the water coaster would travel directly over Vikings at this point. At what height is open to speculation.
  2. I actually think this is a great idea too. A movie "museum" type attraction filled with rotating props and exhibitions would be a winner, but NOT as a replacement for the the LTRR space. This would return Movie world in some sense to being about "movies" and not just rides themed to a particular franchise. It would create some balance in the park. Great idea....sign me up for it.
  3. Both the Matrix and Harry Potter exhibitions were by their very nature, temporary attractions, brought in to maximise the attention on the respective film franchises they represented. They were NEVER intended to be a permanent attraction. You were comparing bringing in a new walkthrough attraction that would be comparable to these two previous exhibitions. I am merely pointing out that in that format, a ride as an attraction would be the far better choice. An exhibition has very limited REPLAY value when compared to a ride, hence the reason why we no longer have either The Matrix or the Harry Potter exhibit at Movieworld. And frankly do not put words in my mouth or tell me what I mean. You obviously do not have kids. I have seen the effects of the Looney tunes characters on kids of all ages.(including my own) All the proof you need is to venture to Movieworld and see the hordes of kids that throw themselves at each and every character EVERY day for a hug or a photo op. That is most certainly a good example of appeal, love and recognition that remain for people of all ages for these characters. However, if Movieworld decided to go in another direction rather than Looney Tunes for theming their new attraction, then that would be fine by me.
  4. I agree also. Looney Tunes characters are iconic-in my experience kids of all ages are all too aware of these characters. I have a 7 year old and a four year old and they absolutely love the Looney Tunes cartoons. I feel that they are also more wide ranging in their appeal than comic characters such as those from the DC or Marvel universe, which tend to be more confined to a niche demographic. A new attraction based on Looney Tunes characters would have instant and universal appeal. However, a static, lifeless walkthrough exhibition would not.
  5. And surely Movieworld can do much better than a static walk through attraction like the Matrix and Harry Potter exhibition of yesteryear. These were never meant to be permanent attractions. In my mind, the space could be far better utilized. However if it was an interactive dark walk through attraction like a haunted house type scare attraction- something akin to Dracula's Haunted House on the Gold Coast - then this could have some merit.
  6. I agree..in what way does it look cheap?? I think it actually looks pretty good and definitely on par with other recent flat rides that have been introduced to our parks.
  7. [ If they are absolutely no chance of putting in a park in Australia, then why have they reasearched the option of doing so at least 5 times?? You think once would be enough.......just saying.
  8. Thanks for this!! I visited Aussieworld for the first time in January and was very impressed by the place!!! My wife and 2 kids had a ball and we will definitely return in the near future!! Its great to see that the park is still growing!! Hopefully next year they will work on their plans to acquire another major ride. It really only needs another 2 big additions for it to become a major destination. I think a second roller coaster, whilst being very desirable, is a number of years away from fruition. But more power to this fantastic park which in some ways does so many things better than the majors!!!
  9. Excellent!! Progress is moving ahead!! Exciting times!! This promises to be the biggest and most important ride installation for our theme parks since Tower of Terror and Superman were installed!! Especially considering the iconic status of the attraction it is replacing!! I feel we are in for something very special with the advent of this coaster- cannot wait!!
  10. You rode the Orphan Rocker?? Pray tell us what that experience was like??
  11. I think it's a reasonable bet if they have taken the trouble to remove the top off, plus stripping the entire volcano back to the inner skeleton, its fair to say that it's days are more than likely numbered.
  12. Given the true and believable evidence( something certain posters on this board have a hard time discerning)that the photos represent, I would say clearly thats a yes!!
  13. Joz for the sake of MY sanity please point out any debate that he has actually won??
  14. The Mr Moon character utilised by LPM and later LPS drew inspiration from the Steeplchase park clown face but that theme was NEVER ever used at Luna Park Coney Island. The Mr Moon character is very different from that which dominated Steeplechase Park. George C Tilyou's clown face is and always has been synonomous with Steeplchase Park. As I have stated in my earlier post, The Tickler (which was actually a ride located IN Steeplchase park) theme was utilised by Zamperla in the modern Luna Park to showcase the overall history of Coney Island. This represents the first time that the clown face has ever been assciated WITH Luna Park Coney Island. As far as an overall theme goes, I think it would be quite inappropriate for either of our Luna Parks to utilise this motif. It is not relevant to either history of our parks and the majority of the public would not recognise the small link that it does connect with them.
  15. Luna Park Coney Island's immediate future is NOT in doubt. You need to get your facts right- YET again!! This was posted on Themepark Review. "Thanks for posting this. I'll be there tomorrow helping out, after doing some local help on Staten Island today. The volunteers are needed to clean up the neighborhood, not the parks. The owners of Luna Park are enticing volunteers with the amusement park wristband for helping out. Luna Park, Scream Zone and The Cyclone have already been cleared by park employees. In fact, The Cyclone just ran a test cycle today." I would also like to point out that the theme to the Tickler, Luna Park's spinning coaster, is in fact NOT really related to Luna Park at all. The face that adorns the cars of the Tickler belongs to George C Tilyou's Steeplechase Park and was its adopted masot. Steeplechase Park closed for good in 1962 and the current owners of Luna Park used the motif as a historical reminder of the fantastic history of Steeplchase Park and the important figure of George C Tilyou in Coney Island's development. It would therefore be inappropriate for LPM to utilise this motif as a theme as it really does not connect in any way with Luna Park Melbourne or even Luna Park Coney Island. Please check your facts before you gob on.
  16. Good find!!! Looks that way!!! The only wonder now will be the manufacturer!!! Hoping for Maurer Sohne!!!
  17. Who said it would be at the expense of the second coaster?? I think it's fairly certain that LPM will be getting a replacement coaster for Metropolis- that's a given!! Instead I was referring to LPM installing another attraction PLUS the new coaster, hence my speculation on the what and where.
  18. The return of any of these attractions would be a cause for great celebrations!! I am doubtful of it, but if just one of the new attractions is one of those you have listed, then this will be fanatstic news!! The River Caves would be the most desirable to have yet would be the most costly of the three.I think that would pretty much rule it out straight away. The Giggle Palace has been publicly targeted by Lyndsay Fox as being his number one attraction to return to the park. A new modern take on a 1930's funhouse?? Yes please!! The question and issue would be space. Where would it be placed?? The original Giggle Palace resided on the left hand side of the face entrance where the Twin Dragon and Spider are currently placed. Of the three, The Rotor would be the logical ride to return from the past. Its footprint is quite small, and it would be relatively inexpensive to re-build. Coupled with this, there is a interview floating around somewhere with LPM's Maintenance Manager stating that they were seriously looking at re-introducing the Rotor at some point in the future. This could prove to be that time!!
  19. So the announcement for the new rides at LPM is drawing closer..apparently all will be revealed on Thursday!! Now that we know that Metropolis is definitely gone for good, what coaster do you feel will be a likely candidate?? As much as RWC is hoping for a Zamperla spinner themed to Coney Island's Tickler, I feel that Zamperla as a ride manufacturer might not be too far off the mark. A Spinning Zamperla coaster is a definite possibility ( doubtful on the Tickler Theme) but it could also be very easily a Volare , Zamperla Steeplechase or Motocoaster. My personal preference would be for a Maurer Sohne Spinning Coaster. However, it is conceivable that a Gerslauter Eurofighter or even a Intamin Zacspin could fit the bill. What is very certain is that it will not be a wooden coaster , so no updated Big Dipper clone's for historical fans like myself. The most interesting thing is that LPM has consistently stated "attractions". Given that the footprint left by Metropolis is not really ALL that big, and the fact that space is a premium in LPM, we could see a new coaster and another new attraction developed together in the existing space. The only other possibility is the removal of one or two of the existing rides to accomodate the new one(s). Time will tell, but this is certainly the most exciting news for LPM since the early 2000's. Back then, the park was redeveloped and the Metropolis was due to be replaced with a coaster (possibly a Pinfari Looper) called Vortex. This never eventuated and Metropolis was given a stay of execution. Hopefully what eventuates is not underwhelming, but is befitting for the celebration of a park of its stature, celebrating its centenary year. I remain optimistic that whatever new attractions arrive, they remain sympathetic to the past, whilst ushering in the new. Thoughts??
  20. Don't get me wrong, I am not commenting on the merits on which ride is better , just on the way that they are both perceived by the general public and the marketing campaigns involved for each. In my mind, Movieworld have been a little off the mark in their promotion of Justice League, and I don't think that the ride has made as big an impact with the general public as has been anticipated. This leaves a golden opportunity for Dreamworld to go on the front foot to really promote and highlight their new attraction, one that is essentially far cheaper and on certain levels, inferior, to Movieworld's Justice League.
  21. Totally agree 100% Alex!! I too think that this will be a great addition to the park's lineup. Dreamworld have plenty of problems and Movieworld may be ahead in the competition stakes, but i feel that this is a very good step in the right direction!! Now if we can have a new coaster to replace the much lamented and long gone Eureka Mine train and suddenly Dreamworld looks like it will be in serious business again and will draw back to an even keel with Movieworld. The Air Race is an Australian first, the ride itself is of a fairly new design and it looks like it provides a quite thrilling ride. I am still sceptical as to its "Big 8" status but the general public are going to love it!! It will be interesting to see what Dreamworld do with this ride marketing wise. If they play their cards right, this ride could have a bigger impact on the general public's psyche- more so than what has been done with Justice League- which has been underwhelming, to say the least.
  22. Agreed GoGoBoy, of the Tornado's that are currently operating in the country, this one looks like it will be the best so far!! It will be interesting to see exactly what configuration Wet 'n"Wild Sydney actually comes up with for it's own example. It will certainly have to be on the money to be as good or better than this one however. Looking forward to this park in the January school holidays.
