  1. For good? That’s a shame if so!! That’s a Gold Coast institution!!
  2. 100% spot on. Did just build Rivals and Green Lantern? Rivals opened in late 2017- nearly 4 years ago and Green Lantern in 2011-approx 11 years ago. They have hardly just been built........ 100% spot on again. This is really disappointing.... Sorry but completely dumb decision...... Sorry I disagree entirely here- that is a load of poppycock. Just because AA has been SBNO for an extended period of time is ANYONE going to be thinking that. People still remember AA and what ride it was- an intense inverted and thrilling coaster. Its still in plain view for all to see. Once it is torn down and replaced with 3 "family" coasters then there will be angst , mark my words. It will be a general feeling of being underwhelmed thats for sure. However if Movieworld's plans included the STC Vekoma model then the GP would see a direct replacement for AA and 2 NEW family coasters- much better than what was there before. As it stands, the plans are extremely underwhelming and are a completely missed opportunity..... Absolutely hit the nail on the head here spot on yet again. Great comment and I 100% agree with everything you have stated here mate. Sums it up very well.... Yeah you got it. Like Gazza I thought it was the Vekoma STC model and this would very much be able to compete with ST as a response. Now....well Dreamworld can breathe a little easier as these plans do nothing to reach the same level of impact that Steel Taipan has had. Dreamworld would be smiling at this news i reckon- it gives them time to follow up ST with another attraction of the same impact.
  3. Sorry but how is it pretty clear from your first response that you were talking about the Gold Coast being disrupted by staff shortages? You would need an Allan key Brad to unlock that sentiment from that post or you might as well be in another timezone trying to communicate. Sarcastic replies like your first one , whilst sometimes funny do not convey anything other than that- sarcasm. Longer term members like me and @DaptoFunlandGuy realise you support extended Summer hours and we wholeheartedly agree but most of the time the sarcasm is lost on newer members. Sometimes its just not needed as well.
  4. Hang on. Is this 100% legit? Why would you put in 2 family (albeit dueling) Boomerang coasters and then surround it with….another family coaster?? That seriously makes no sense. Of course the new Vekoma STC coaster is what is needed here. Surely Movieworld can’t be THAT stupid? Look at the success of the install at Tripsdrill. That looks amazing and by all accounts rides fantastic. As a direct replacement for AA then it makes complete sense. To have a non inverting coaster as well as the other 2 family coasters is quite frankly an astonishingly unbalanced decision. I sincerely hope that this is not true.
  5. Not when the ride experience is so much better than what the SLC’s offered. However the SLC’s layout , despite the track and original trains shortcomings, is quite a good layout. Checkout the Great Nor Easter at Morey’s Pier which has had new trains and retracting to fully realise the potential of the SLC layout. The STC is just the next evolutionary step.
  6. If Movieworld can theme along these lines , add in another Boomerang coaster then how can we not be excited by these plans?
  7. Get that it was your personal preference. Not a problem with that at all mate. It’s your opinion- I respect that. However, you did post your “personal preference “ on a public forum and that is the function of them- to discuss the subject at hand. I responded to it with my own opinion - one which you have actually agreed with me. If you don’t want your opinion or view answered then perhaps don’t post where it can be? I don’t know what else to say? 🤷‍♂️ Again agree 💯 here. This is exactly what the park management will be thinking and it will be the perfect response to Streel Taipan. The general public will also be positive about it- come on who isn’t going to like having 3 new coasters coming to your local park all at once? It’s a marketers dream and will really place pressure on Dreamworld on how they respond.
  8. That was more in reference to LPS adding 3 new coasters , however one of them is a kiddie coaster and not full sized. And make no mistake, the Vekoma Boomerang model may be designated a family coaster , however they are still regarded as being full sized coasters versus being kiddie coaster models. Just because a coaster isn’t regarded as a thrill coaster doesn’t mean it ISN’T a full size coaster for the whole family. Agree 100% and you just answered your own post on why having these 3 Vekomas is a better choice than one B&M.
  9. Serious? Sorry mate I consider that a fairly ill informed comment. There are loads of examples of just how good the new generation of Vekoma coasters actually are. Think Lech coaster , think Abyssus , think the new STC at Tripsdrill , think the numerous new Vekomas opened or opening in China. They are producing some great rides and they are definitely cheaper than B&M’s. Realistically this I great bang for buck and is a great move for the park. Other thank LPS, name another Australian park which has opened 3 coasters all at once? And these will be full sized coasters…… B&M’s are great rides but they have been discussed on these forums ad nauseum on why an Australian park will likely never get one… I would take 3 new coasters like these over one B&M for a park like Movieworld…this is a great move. Also who says that the coaster will not be inverting? Surely this will be the duelling family boomerang model and the STC model similar to the setup at Tripsdrill?
  10. Yeah I cannot wait to ride it. Doing so in early January. I have been on these forums for a long time now and I have always been a proponent of Luna Park receiving a new coaster. It’s been a passion of mine and I dared to believe and hold out hope that it would actually happen. Now that it finally has occurred the scale and audacity of what has been installed is so much more than what I had dreamed. After the debacle of the 2nd Big Dipper and the ensuing resident problems a lot of people ( some on these boards) expressed grave doubts that the park would ever see another coaster. Now we have 2 excellent additions- a neat family coaster and a world first Intamin prototype. We really have to take our hats of to Luna Park and their management for believing in the park itself , the guts to see it through after such a long time and the vision and foresight to deliver what we see today. This is a massive cause for celebrations and it’s also such a massive shot in the arm for the amusement park industry which could have seriously positive ramifications for the future of amusement parks in the rest of the country, in an industry which has been primarily Gold Coast centric. Perhaps the decision to spend $30 million at Luna Park spurred on Gumbuya’s surprising decision to purchase Buzzsaw ( another prediction which many on this board said wouldn’t happen) Hopefully this in turn will see new investment in our parks as a sign of a healthy amusement park industry- both on the Gold Coast and elsewhere in the nation.
  11. And I reckon it’s a bit harsh calling Gold Coaster a glorified family coaster. It most certainly isn’t. It’s a thrill coaster that is well on its way to becoming a classic. Yes it may not be as intense as some of the newer installs such as Steel Taipan but we have to remember that the ride is coming up to 27 years old. It’s a product of its time and we are lucky to have retained it for the duration and the excellent condition that it currently is in. May it be a feature of Dreamworld for many years yet!!
  12. The park has stated that they are hoping for an opening by end of January, though no date has been set. It will definitely be before March and most likely early to mid February. Hopefully the weather is kind for them to stick to this timeline
  13. Yeah nobody does extended trading hours in Australia like either of our Luna Parks. Friday and Saturday’s to 10pm at both parks is such and awesome way to experience both parks. There is something dazzling about visiting the park on a hot balmy summer night with the sea breeze wafting in over Sydney Harbour or Port Phillip Bay and St Kilda Beach. The atmosphere is electric with a good suite of lights on all the rides really accentuating the spirit of both parks! And let’s not forget the ability for night rides!! Awesome experience and I for one cannot wait to do a new Big Dipper Night ride. Looks brilliant!!
  14. To be honest I couldn’t give a toss for records. They are meaningless when they try to tart it up as something it isn’t or inflate it in the publics consciousness. I mean I get that it’s marketing 101 but we all know as enthusiasts it’s just a big wank. There are plenty of legitimate things that can be attributed to this coaster. 1st Single rail launched coaster in the world Australia’s first single rail coaster Just these 2 facts alone are worthy of marketing it and sounding impressive. There is no need to tart it up into something it isn’t. I just fervently hope that it rides WELL. As long as it is forceful and garners a reputation as being a quality coaster is all I am interested in. We certainly do not want it turning into another Motocoaster disappointment- where so much was promised and so little was delivered. Luna Park has waited so long for a new decent coaster that if that were to occur it would be extremely heartbreaking. Fingers crossed it’s a banger and fun to ride.
  15. Yeah I did see that. Presuming they will be reinstated for the opening. The reason for the shortened video is that this vision is used on the LPS website under the Big Dipper banner- no need to have a full POV here. I am guessing the full length ride video will be released at some point in the future.
  16. Good question. The one in the media is quite good- no loss of quality. That should have been the one uploaded!! By the way the LPS website has now confirmed a Boxing Day opening for Big Dipper. Who is keen to ride the first day?? Also the ticket info has been updated as well. A full day pass in January allows you unlimited access and rides between 10am and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays , 10am to 6pm Weekdays and 10am to 9pm Sundays. This represents pretty good value and allows for a good span of hours to experience all the new rides both in the day and at night.
  17. Luna Park have released the first POV of Big Dippet!! Looks fantastic!! Not long to wait now!! Time to get excited people!!
  18. Yeah 100% agree with this. Dreamworld need to keep the positivism and momentum that is now currently building with the advent of Steel Taipan. Yes this is a major ride and most likely we will see nothing in the next fiscal year but if they were to announce/tease the next big attraction for a late 2023 opening then this would follow the momentum wave quite well. Having a large capex attraction followed by a small addition the year after follwed by the next major addition cycle would see the park quickly resume its former glory.
  19. Thats awesome!! Great to see. Incidentally, Luna Park are still working on a timeline for a Boxing Day Opening for Big Dipper. It should not be too far away in any case and hopefully will be ready before New Years in any case
  20. If Dreamworld do not snap up the rights to this book quicksmart and sell the crap put of it, then someone isnt doing their job............
  21. The Big Dipper is due to open on Boxing Day at this stage. The testing will of course continue - next week the 2nd train will be added and 2 train runs will commence. The next big ticket item will be Plant registration. Wild Mouse is also set to reopen Boxing Day and has had 4 of the 6 towers completely replaced with the final two being locked in for replacement in February. Most of the track has also been completely replaced as well, by the time Boxing Day rolls around she will feel like a new ride. Good times!!!
  22. Its always a bit hard to argue with common sense..........
  23. Buzzsaw could have fit in the area that was vacated by the former Metropolis coaster site. The only concern is its height- at 151 feet this could bea an issue for the council to have approved. This would have been the tallest ride to go into the park if it was approved. LPM are in desperate need for a second coaster but now this is going to Gumbuya this is a moot point. I think that LPM will choose a smaller model such as a Eurofighter for their eventual 2nd coaster at some point. The Big Dipper installation at LPS shows what can be done with a small footprint. Yeah agree 100% here. Funfields is a great park and is one or 2 attractions from being a major player. There may not be a huge lot of room outside its current boundaries to expand but they certainly have room within to add attractions. Hopefully the addition of Buzzsaw to Gumbuya spurs LPM, Funfields and Adventure Park to accelerate any plans for new additions- a localised expansion war in the Victorian parks would be most welcome and great for the industry! Again agreed. The addition of Buzzsaw ( which I called weeks ago) is going to be a huge game changer for the park. After this , another couple of high profile flats would really round out the attractions offered by the park. I just hope that they install Buzzsaw soon though. Gumbuya purchased the former Mammoth Plunge slide from Wet'n Wild and Seaworld a couple of years ago and there has still been no sign of this attraction being added as of yet and i would hate to see Buzzsaw go down the same route. I dont think it will but it is something to watch closely.
  24. Hahaha..yeah this is very poor. Looking at this you would think that LPS was putting in an Arrow Suspended Coaster!!! 🤣 There should be something representative of the new Big Dipper- their art department has had a huge brain fart!!
