  1. Plus LED reduces power draw which for new installs means smaller wiring. Also less heat created so a minor reduction in AC demand.
  2. Jet Rescue hasn't, Sidewinder/Gold Coaster has.
  3. And it was only valid for about 6 months or so, from memory?
  4. That's what gets me with these discussions. The bean counters at the various companies know what they need to charge to keep the lights on and make a profit. Certainly much better than the enthusiast community.
  5. The ride opening will also increase domestic tourism on the Gold Coast, which helps the economy.
  6. ABC report https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-25/woman-critical-after-falling-from-carnival-ride-cairns/12811058 25 year old lady, fell from the top of the cycle, critical but stable. Ride OP reportedly said to a bystander "ride is on a timer, I can't stop it". That last bit doesn't sound right as we all know though (E-Stop).
  7. @Brad2912 I was simply describing the main purpose of each mode. Running multiple spurs everywhere is costly, and restricts the service through the core. A single central section like through Surfers can only handle so many LR vehicles. If you have multiple spurs, you then limit the number services on each spur because of the restriction in the core. But if you transfer from LR to bus, you can have good service levels on each 'spur' that the bus now serves. Bus routes need to be redesigned as each stage of the LR opens, which is something that the transport advocates (rail back on track for instance) push for. The next northern spur is towards Harbour Town (hence the stub at the top of the 'tunnel' at the GC University hospital). Then probably north to Hope Island and Coomera. That will likely be after the airport/Tweed stage.
  8. Heavy rail (trains) cover big distances with large stop spacing, carrying large numbers of passengers. Light rail (trams) are used for the more local core/spine with moderate stop spacing. They can carry many more passengers than a bus, and if they aren't sharing road space are quicker than a bus. You then run regular feeder bus services to minor attractions from that spine. Running the tram everywhere would be an inefficient use and would make it slower. Would also cost tens of billions of dollars, when the buses can achieve the same result for much less.
  9. There's always tomorrow for that trend to be reversed 😃
  10. There are these detections of the virus in waste water around Queensland, that are concerning though.
  11. Isn't that what happened with SeaCorkViper? They did a heap of work to it only a few years after the retheme, only to find it beyond economical repair?
  12. Food & beverage sales, plus merch. And also it gets the place looking busier, which attracts people. Plus those cheap pass people might drag friends along who pay more. And ultimately, 1000 passes at $50 is a greater income of 0 passes at $99. Many of those purchases will be impulse buys, rather than price watchers waiting for a cheaper option (as $99 is a reasonably good price anyway). We have no plans to buy a pass in the next 6 months at the moment, but had I have qualified, I would have bought one for each of my family.
  13. I personally thought the 'special spot in my L3 (ie a healed fracture from riding it)' was a better joke, to be honest.
  14. There may have been some poetic licence used on my part 😁 It was the first coaster I ever rode, so holds a special spot in my L3 vertebrae.
  15. I'll make a booking with my physio and chiro for the day after opening in preparation!
  16. Gotta use 'possibly' and 'probably' around here, or else you get book thrown at you too 😂
  17. Agreed. The only thing that might have stopped that, would have been if people had died on Green Lantern. The GP doesn't care who's fault it would have been, they would have avoided Movie World. The State Government would have taken a greater interest in the park maintenance schedules and possibly picked up on the poor state of affairs at Dreamworld.
  18. Oh, might be, never noticed that (never looked that closely either - the white sheets said enough for me)
  19. For those that aren't getting it, someone claimed to have taken a photo of Vortex with a long lense, only to be proven to be lying, especially when someone's hand was in the photo.
  20. Normally security staff are for enforcement of social distancing. Normal staff can remind people but not much more, to avoid physical altercations.
  21. We stayed across the Broadwater once for a few days and I had a similar experience.
  22. A few (I think three) drag racers have been killed at Willowbank Raceway (drag strip) in 35 years, one at the very first meeting. Only one has a plaque, it's a bit bigger than an A4 page. It is in a garden, beside a main walkway but not right on the path and is done in a subtle way, it is not in your face. A second racer who passed in his sleep has a plaque at the facility too, done in a similar manner. One of the founders has the actual track named after him as well, with a lit street sign pointing down the track behind the startline. Those examples show it can be done tastefully. It will be harder to do it tastefully at Dreamworld due to all the attention and the fact that those four people thought they were safe. The drag racers all knew that there where risks even with safety equipment.
