Going on what they have done so far I don't really count on them using the money too well. They have shut down three rides across 2 parks and no action (physical) has been taken to replace them. If they wanted to replace them they would of just left them open until they were ready to start construction. Its been a year since LT closed and 1.5 years since BT yet no action has been seen. They could of built a top notch attraction in this time. I honestly believe that they have gone all Disney like and just don't want to spend the money unless they need too. Surely after this time of no major attractions they would have enough to make a world class dark ride (being the most expensive type of ride). Considering the low prices on which our parks can do things they should be able to do it but they still don't push the boundaries. One thing most of you don't notice is that most people don't know what they want. It something I have picked up is that no matter what the person thinks they want, something else will come that they will like better. An example if Movieworld announced a Universal type dark ride I am 99% sure that they will like it better then a roller coaster. So you can't say the market wants roller coasters they may want something else they may just not know it. Also it makes it worse since almost 100% of the market hasn't seen any other theme parks and don't know what can be done.

except this one was almost one. I would rather see them spend their money on a dark ride or an even better idea, keeping (or if not possible replace) their current rides.

Could it be that the metals in the chain expand more then the metals in the casing around it causing it to rub and get caught on its casing -
What is going on at Dreamworld
CruiseSF replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The $10 million is the price it cost Dreamworld to buy the rights to Dreamworks. Also it looks like they are meant to be together Dreamworld, Dreamworks -
Yes but if our park started making something unique, the parks can turn those stats around but currently there is no reason for people to visit the parks as other countries have the same rides, or very similar rides.
-
Maybe not a huge hit but it is beating their expectation for the park and do u always haven to find the smallest thing, even if it is so small that it shouldn't matter or have no importance to the topic

POLL - What Theme Park would you like to see in Australia?

Same reason people go to the us to go on the oasis of the seas

$17 million where did you pull that number from. It was less then $10 million for both. Media attention brings in more customers then you may think, as it advertises the park to a whole new audience. So more people learn about the park as very few people overseas even know our parks. Also the GD and TOT would of done the same thing. IT may not be long term but in the short term is increases the numbers significantly. Just look at Formula Rossa, It has attracted many tourists to the park, considering its in the middle of a desert in a country many people would not consider even visiting. I doubt the park would be anywhere near as successful if the ride was not there.

POLL - What Theme Park would you like to see in Australia?
CruiseSF replied to Thrillrulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Universal is nothing like MW except being studio based. For instance Universal is my favourate chain but I have a strong dislike for MW. -
Think about the media attention. When the one in Japan opened everyone knew about it. When ever a new roller coaster has bigger stats then a past coaster then it makes world wide news. It captures peoples attention and puts a focus on the park for world wide publicity.

As in getting things through council, deciding where to put it, theme. Plus negotiations before hand. Plus it would only be a small change.
-
Surely they would of still of been able to change it when it was announced. Unless they order it a long time ago and have only just got around to building it.
-
Why didn't they just make it 2 more degrees and get the steepest roller coaster drop and increase international numbers. Plus can anyone photoshop the image over one of the other coasters to see how steep it looks compared to them.

Just going on the fact that the ride is near completion and almost nothing has started, the logo has already gone in out the front and its normally one of the last things to go in. Limited time to get good theming done and I wanted to see your reaction to that and I guess it worked.
-
So looks like I was right with Six flags style theming.

I for one know the general public hate these ideas. The only reason they get no complaints is because many of them just wont go to the park. I live in NSW, just north of Gosford and everyone of my friend, have said the same thing about the parks. Here is the list: [*]Sea World: Why even bother going all you do is look at animals (Due to lack of rides). If I wanted to do that I would just go to the Aquarium (Sydney), as the only different animals are the Dolphins. Plus the Aquarium has more. [*]Movieworld: Worn down, Very little rides. Combination day with Sea World, and hanging out at surfers. Only three rides. waste of money. With the Green Lantern the park seems confused ( "Management" Should we spend money on thrills or theming) [*]Dreamworld: I have found this to be the most popular. Due to larger amount of rides. Isn't a confused park (Light theming on all rides)

POLL - What Theme Park would you like to see in Australia?
CruiseSF replied to Thrillrulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
No way in hell is Dreamworld like Legoland. I have never seen a Legoland park with a worlds highest freefall tower. Once worlds fastest roller coaster, Roller coasters with inversions, Large pendulum ride. Laser tag themed after horror movies. Legoland is a very kid centred park while Dreamworld is more for teens and old while still having plenty of space for the younger audience. -

Legoland is also more likely because Merlin has purchased many attractions in Sydney. So they seem to be showing interest in our market. In addition they have said they want to build a Lego discovery centre. So maybe their plans may expand to a full sized legoland. -
Yes they did.

It doesn't mean the industry can't be shaped. Many Australian's have never been overseas and have never seen how much theming can change a ride. With WV parks having themeing that has not really been looked after too its best, causes people to be shaped to the state of mind where they believe that is the norm. If they did something like the Transformers Ride or many of the Universal or Disney ride I am sure they could really get back into themeing. They really need to look more towards universal who build there ride for a faction of the cost of disney by doing things in house. Plus it provides a balance between thrills and theme.
-
The parks need to learn that theming makes more money then thrills. Always has and always will. Even with a small budget you can still make a decent dark ride (especially when they already have half of it set up already). An example is Universal Studios Hollywood. The whole park, (not including the studio tour) is worth around the same as some of the Six Flags parks (due to the huge amount of large roller coasters) yet they still bring in more customers. Its all theming and its sets you from the rest. People will travel for Themes but not Thrills (few exclusions to this rule)
-
Annual passes should only be used by parks who have a larger percentage of international tourists. Like Universal studios, or Disney. While it works for them it doesn't work in Australia due to small international numbers which means less sales and the low price of the passes makes matters worse, with a few visits the parks are already out of pocket.
-
Also Roller coasters would be less likely to make money due to the massive increase i upkeep costs. Even more so them average theme parks due to constant painting needed to be done. (Track needs to be clean of old paint and new paint added. As if you have ever been on a ship before you can see the large amounts of paint has built up.)
