  1. I know that feeling man, I'm a retail worker too.
  2. Wonder if it would be possible/practical for DW to install like a two-way radio system on each gondola, so in the event something like this DOES happen (and it will happen again) they are able to calmly communicate with the riders to let them know its just routine. It doesn't matter if they had a sign or multiple signs saying 'ride may experience intermittent issues which are for your safety' or if the attendant said so before each ride because a.) most people don't read/listen to those types of things and b.) even if it is exactly routine nothing will placate like actually being able to hear someone reassure you.
  3. I don't disagree there's much to love about our parks, Superman, WWF and Giant Drop are among my Top 5 rides of all time in this country. But they are rides that are in the case of the latter two are nearly 20 years old (scary right?)! It's absurd that we're making excuses when nearly two decades have passed and we've got so little to show for it. The Australian parks had their golden age and we've been wallowing in mediocrity since, here's hoping whatever Movie World builds can lead to a new renaissance, but I'm not holding my breath.
  4. If it's good enough for the President of the United States it's good enough for people on a Theme Park forum.
  5. I was thinking parks like Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens (Tampa or Williamsburg), and various Six Flags parks. Would never compare our parks to any Disney or Universal parks.
  6. It does kind of seem like the companies running Australian theme parks aren't as on the ball when it comes to being on trend or delivering the volume of thrills that US parks seem to offer by comparison. I don't know what our park attendance figures are compared to some of the larger parks over there but I would say these companies seem to know how to build a better park than Village or Ardent/Main Event. I don't want to knock them, I couldn't imagine the logistics behind running a theme park let alone remaining relevant, and I am appreciative for what we have, but sometimes it just seems like they could be so much better with only a few changes (albeit expensive ones).
  7. I find both The Claw and Wipeout to be incredibly fun rides in very different ways that almost make them difficult to chose between. However riding The Claw has made me nauseous after 3+ goes in a row, whereas Wipeout never has so I'll vote for Wipeout.
  8. It must be so frustrating for them to have to deal with the ridiculous media, it'd be like going to your job doing it exactly as you're supposed to and then getting yelled at anyway... oh wait that's retail life anyway.
  9. Maybe it's nostalgia clouding my memories or maybe it's just I don't have any other wooden roller coasters to compare it to sadly as it and it's little cousin are the only wooden roller coasters I've ever been on.
  10. Diverting back to the topic of car parks for a second, don't know if anyone else has brought this up but why don't theme parks have multi-story car parks like shopping centres do? Seems like it'd free up a lot of space. Is it because they don't want views of their park impeded by concrete structures? If that's the case surely they could put them to the side of the park and use the empty space in front for more park space. Or even better, just go underground with multi-story car parks, that way it still looks the same up top but with plenty more parking below. Plus imagine how nice and cool your car would be if it's been out of the sun all day.
  11. If we're talking no longer existing coasters now Bush Beast would be close to the top of my list. It sucks we don't have any high quality wooden roller coasters in this country anymore.
  12. Movie World doesn't have the rights to the Shrek franchise anymore does it? With that swamp it could have been prime tie in theming for a Shrek roller coaster.
  13. I guess I forget that while a B&M coaster in the US can be bought for around 20 mil we're at the mercy of exchange rates and a very long boat ride for the track pieces. Who knows! Maybe the one benefit of the incoming Trump presidency will be a crash of their economy and we can get some B&M on the cheap!
  14. Forty million?! For that amount they could've gotten a B&M (probably). I doubt this thing is going to cost that much. But then again, somehow that Storm Coaster cost what, like 20 million? So maybe/anything's possible?
  15. Sorry if this is a stupid question but why do some people take capacity into account when judging a coaster? I thought the experience of the ride (excitement/g-forces/comfort) would be the only thing of importance? I don't detract points from a movie based on how long I had to wait in queue before seeing it.
  16. I personally prefer Escape from Madagascar, I think even if it's not as 'thrilling' as Road Runner, a suspended/inverted kiddie coaster is a bit more unique. And while it may be sacrilegious to say, the theming of Road Runner doesn't add to the experience for that particular coaster in my opinion. It's very nice, but it doesn't give the ride any extra points.
  17. And I can guarantee, if (and hopefully never) a larger theme park has to close because of continued needless negative press, the media will be right there going: 'a sad day for theme parks and families' and 'loss of tourism dollars and jobs puts a strain on Gold Coast tourism' as if they weren't a contributing factor to eroding these theme parks' image in the public eye.
  18. Gotta love having my topic called dumb! Yay Parkz forum! Seriously I searched like half a dozen permutations of the title of this thread to look for something similar but I guess I missed the many posts like this before? Whatever, I'm drunk right now so if this is a seriously egregious forum topic than delete it, I was just trying to make conversation.
  19. God I hope they don't retire the Wipeout, it's easily my second favourite ride at Dreamworld. EDIT: Yes I know there's not much to suggest it will be retired, it just seems like it's taking an awful long time for it to come back online considering the others that have opened before it.
  20. Seeing as how there's a few discussions going on comparing specific coasters I thought it'd be interesting to see in what order the people here would rank the coasters of Australian theme parks from Best to Worst. (I did a quick search to see if there was a topic like this already and couldn't see one so forgive me if there is and I missed it.) My list is a bit lacking as I've not been to Seaworld since it got its two newest coasters, haven't ever been to Perth and my opinion on Arkham Asylum is based on the ride before it got the new restraints, however I'll amend the list once I visit Movie World later this year and ride it again. 1. Superman Escape 2. Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster 3. Green Lantern Coaster 4. Escape From Madagascar 5. Hot Wheels Sidewinder 6. Buzzsaw 7. Tower of Terror II 8. Road Runner Roller Coaster 9. Mick Doohan's Motocoaster Might do a list including now defunct coasters too, but it might be hard to reconcile such old memories with newer experiences, nostalgia tends to make things seem better than they actually were sometimes.
  21. I've never ridden Jet Rescue, but it wouldn't be hard to beat MDMC, few rides evoke such a feeling of 'meh' in addition to being wholly uncomfortable.
  22. Negativity sells, so does sensationalism, we have the unfortunate double edged sword of living in a country that's kind of uneventful in terms of 'bad things happening that make for interesting news' and so even the slightest thing 'going wrong' or in the case of ride stoppages 'going exactly as intended' will be considered newsworthy. I imagine in the US a ride stoppage wouldn't even be considered news given everything else that happens in a day.
  23. That would be an interesting idea, you could almost have the cars running along the footpath of the emptied trench of the Rapids, utilising the tunnels, etcetera. Although I have a feeling the footprint for the Rapids is a lot longer than Vintage Cars?
  24. If true perhaps they are just making them look nice for potential collectors to buy them?
