  1. I only voted Wooden Big Dipper as its the only ride on the list I never got a chance to rode (aside from Orphan Rocker obviously which only a handful of people in the entire world ever got to ride).
  2. What do you mean by redundant? I haven't been to Dreamworld to ride Steel Taipan yet but out of all their current rides The Claw is probably my favourite at the park.
  3. I doubt Dreamworld would ever (or at least not for a good decade or more) ever theme anything to mining or gold rush again, just to properly distance themselves from the TRRR incident. Much as it would be expensive (and potentially ugly from the outside) to do so an indoor family coaster the likes of Scooby Doo or Road Runner would be good so as to have more to do on rainy days. But unless they found a way to add an indoor roller coaster to the refurbishment of their kiddy land (which wouldn't work with the buildings they currently have) then they probably have a lot more important additions to add to the park first. If Motocoaster wasn't in such an awkward spot they could enclose that and make it a Tron-style coaster to give it a facelift, but then again this is Dreamworld not Movie World so probably doesn't make much sense...
  4. Just had a look at the website and seems like there's a lot more shitty ones than there used to be, not a lot of thought or care put into them just "hey here's 10 of the same chocolate bars, that'll do as a showbag right?" Some of them seem the same as when I was a kid though, like the 'Jumbo Mega Fizz Showbag' looks almost identical to something I got multiple years or even that $3.00 Bertie Beetle bag (Bertie apparently immune to inflation) looks mostly the same. I think a part of it might be just getting older though as you said, nowadays I'm like, "I don't need that much chocolate or lollies, I'd rather a nice burger and a pint for the $40 bucks I'd spend on the showbags I'd want as a kid." To me a lot of the fun of getting showbags was walking around with so much swag, feeling like a champ with all the goodies I had and then bringing them home and spreading it all out on the floor and admiring the haul.
  5. Yep, definitely was, I rode it once when I was a kid in the 90's, can't be more specific than that because I was more into showbag hype than ride hype back then but then again I do remember riding it, so I guess it left an impression at the very least!
  6. Good video regarding the Steel Vengeance collision and all its other issues (some RMC related, some Cedar Point related), surprised no one linked to this video since someone mentioned the 'block break' meme only a few posts ago (which this guy originated) but then again this video was only posted 4 days ago.
  7. If they could put temporary flats into an unused show building (not too familiar with what, if any buildings at Movie World they have that are unused) and then just have a bunch of smoke machines and lasers and other cheap but cool-looking effects I think that'd go a fair way of making an ordinary temporary flat ride into something "theme park worthy".
  8. And I think that, in of itself, is part of the problem. Whether that reputation is "Dreamworld not safe" or "Dreamworld has no water rides" they kind of just need to bite the proverbial bullet and do a new water based ride and be damned to all the ~bad press~ that'll come from people saying "too soon". I've lived in Melbourne for 12 years now but for the 22 years I did live on the Gold Coast I visited Dreamworld dozens of times a year (when I was old enough, obviously), and I can't imagine the place as being enjoyable to people like me (who don't do water parks) on the kind of hot Summer days that make up such a big part of life on the Gold Coast. I can't speak for everyone (because there are people who do like visiting the adjacent water parks) but a theme park not having a water ride is pretty much a deal breaker for me - especially in the Queensland climate.
  9. I can imagine the shareholders looking down the road at Movie World's packed car park and seeing dollar signs in their eyes then turning to their own park and wondering where that tumbleweed came from. Not trying to be negative because I have a soft spot for different aspects of both parks but I feel like (if trip reports and comments on here are anything to go by) Dreamworld would need to spend a lot of money to be equal to Movie World - at least on paper. What I worry about more is if Dreamworld can ever fully recover and pull in crowds like Movie World does now. The real question is (and I don't think anyone has an answer for this short of surveying all of the Gold Coast and surrounding areas) is Dreamworld not as busy because of its ride offerings, or is Dreamworld not busy because the general public don't trust Dreamworld anymore?
  10. The newspaper article (which I assume hasn't been corrected) mentioned "launched coaster", press release mentions "multi-type coaster" (which as far as I'm aware isn't a thing), so could it be a launched lift hill like that Hulk roller coaster at Universal Studios, and that's what they mean by "multi-type"? Maybe they didn't want to say launched suspended coaster because that's too wordy for the general public (at least that's what their advertising people might think).
  11. In before someone complains about the park having two pink roller coasters
  12. They saw all the people complaining about the lack of Atlantis theming and thought the cheapest way to give it authentic theming was to just sink the whole precinct.
  13. Sources or not @Baconjack I personally think a 'timeless' theme like The Wizard of Oz, is far preferable to some flavour of the month superhero shit. I mean, it's "Movie World" not Super Hero World or (god forbid) DC World... That said, I have little faith that what was apparently a 'villains' themed DC precinct will ~seamlessly~ transition into a Wizard of Oz themed precinct, that said I do appreciate the attempt. Honestly the entire park needs to undergo a retheme, if it was my decision I'd immediately find a new theme for Green Lantern (maybe Matrix, that way you don't need to repaint just add some features like lights and tunnels), completely gut Justice League and put something more cool and timeless like a Blade Runner experience (motion simulator or whatever new tech exists that's comparable). Pie in the sky kind of thinking but put a wooden roller coaster (even if its just something small) next to the Wild Wild West and retheme the entire area to Mad Max/Furiosa. Then while you're at it just put the dumb generic car stunt show to literally any movie franchise, Police Academy was iconic but whatever you've got just not what it currently is. As for the kids area (whatever passes for it in its current state) just at least place one signature ride that draws people in, as a kid for me there was nothing more exciting than the Loony Tunes River Rapids, I literally had no fondness or nostalgia or whatever for any of those Looney Tunes characters, I was a 'Nick kid' growing up but the overall presentation, dedication of the ride attendants and seamless integration between the queuing experience and ride experience was so good that even though it was intimidating to venture to the centre of the earth, I still bought it hook, line and sinker even until I was a teenager - that's how immersive of an experience it was - or maybe that's how dumb I was. Nevertheless it was a Disney-tier attraction, and more than epic, record-breaking roller coasters that is what Movie World needs more than anything else. Oops, did I rant a bit long there, sorry, whiskey will do that to ya...
  14. I've said it before and I'll say it again, 3 family roller coasters is a bad idea, especially for a park that seems to have trouble with queues and with keeping rides operating all year round. Something that's also been said by many people (including myself) is that they need a people eater, a big indoor dark-ride like Looney Tunes was. If the plan was for 1 family roller coaster and a highly themed dark ride then I'd be like, that's a good idea. But 3 roller coasters feels like someone at the top going, "well we could buy 1 expensive roller coaster, but that'd be expensive and potentially hard to market, but you know what the general public will get excited about... 3 roller coasters." I guarantee that'll be their marketing, not talking about "Australia's first" like they tend to just something along the lines of: "WHAT'S BETTER THAN ONE NEW ROLLER COASTER? HOW ABOUT THREE NEW ROLLER COASTERS?!"
  15. They probably didn't think they needed to add this because nobody is going to Dreamworld exclusively to ride the Motocoaster so why bother lol
  16. Not sure a green roller coaster is the best choice in an area that looks very nature-y, seems like it won't be very eye-catching against the backdrop, but whatever.
  17. Maybe just make the ceiling panel high enough above the ride vehicles that even if some idiot stood up they wouldn't reach the hole? Just a suggestion...
  18. The fact that Movie World hasn't issued a formal (or heck, even informal social media statement) apologising for doing literally nothing to mitigate the problems shows that the park is 100% just in it to make as much money as possible by this holiday period even if it translates into terrible word of mouth, scathing reviews and horrible guest experiences. The absolute rock bottom bare minimum they should be doing is having their social media person explaining that capacity is currently lower because of additional coaster trains/boats being out of commission instead of blaming the very people who are lining the parks pockets.
  19. Echoing what some people have said in this thread but going a bit further, whatever plans Movie World has for the Arkham area should be either put on hold or completely thrown out in favour of a super-high capacity family adventure ride like what the park had with the Loony Tunes River Ride, something that can board 20+ people per boat/car with a continuous loading/unloading platform without the need for complicated restraints. It might sound like 'pie in the sky' thinking but what I think is, rather than spend $20+ million on a record breaking roller coaster or 3 random roller coasters (or whatever the plan currently is for Arkham) they need a Disney level attraction that can just churn through guests consistently.
  20. Unless you're on a very limited time holiday in a foreign country, there's absolutely no reason anyone should ever wait 4 hours in line for a ride. Movie World is taking the piss with these kind of operations and sadly it seems like the general public are all too happy to drink it up without a care in the world. Something needs to change otherwise Movie World is just going to keep on delivering the bare minimum and reaping the profits.
