You said the opening dates are as un/reliable as Levi's, which isn't true. As far as I can tell, Dreamworld never announced an opening date for the updated Giant Drop, only extended the maintenance period as delays were dealt with. Delays are understandable, what made New Atlantis so mismanaged was their poor reasoning (or lack of it entirely) for said delays, and their multiple announcements for 'set in stone' opening dates that never got met. Also, y'know, being delayed for over 2 years, and being barely functional on opening.
-
It's not nearly as mismanaged as the New Atlantis precinct was/is. A ride isn't as unreliable as Levi just because it encounters a delay.
-
A rather extensive passholder email was sent out. Because it’s so extensive, I’ll summarise it here: - Giant Drop has been delayed, due to weather & finding “some opportunities to further extend the life of one of Dreamworld's most iconic rides”. They also talk about repainting being completed, and that they’re currently planning to install the lights. Images are attached: Giant Drop gondolas Giant Drop nameplate Dreamworld lights - Mentions the work done with Dreamland, and how they’re planning on commencing work on Escape Coaster, Dreamworld Dodgems (both referred to by those names in the email, not the new names as of yet), plus the Big Red Boat & Planes rides. Serpent Slayer’s gondolas are currently being painted. Dreamworld Theatre & the Tree House are planned to reopen for the Easter School Holidays. Bananas Carousel is open, but not in its final stage, with further work happening in the coming months. They caution that weather & other factors can impede construction, as they did with GD, and to check the maintenance schedule before planning visits. Images, again, are attached: Bananas Carousel Dreamworld Theatre sign Serpent Slayer gondolas Kenny statue Belinda statue (assumedly for the Tree House sign, as it resembles concept art. If so, it’s a detailed 3 dimensional sign! On the Gold Coast!) Entrance sign - Finally, they mention park atmosphere additions, namely roaming entertainers, roaming animal keepers w/ native wildlife, and Foam Parties near Gold Coaster (saw them when I went, it’s a staff member shooting foam from a cannon into a sectioned-off area of path adjacent to the toilets near Gold Coaster). Says there’s more to come.

Wet n Wild SurfRider taken off website
Tricoart replied to Natti_amusements's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The helix area's a bit small to fit both SurfRider, it's entry/exit ramps, and 360° building facades (case in point, how it was originally being discussed as to if/how SurfRider's platform would be able to fit within the helix in the first place). And, if they were to fit facades in somehow, they'd look pretty disconnected from the rest of Superman's generic plaza, which I assume they'd want to keep generic if they're indeed connecting it to WoO. As for a Supergirl theme, I don't know what colour scheme they'd be able to give it aside from the same red & blue Superman's already got, and it'd be unremarkable at best if they got the same colours. Not to mention, giving it a theme that isn't distinct enough from it's 'parent' attraction could lead to it being viewed more like a Lil' Phantom/Lil' Devil Coaster/Formula Rossa Junior than like a Lex Luthor:/Zumanjaro: Drop Of Doom, if you know what I mean. Maybe that's the market they're wanting to go for, but adding a new family coaster'd only be a good move for the park for about a year, til it quickly become outdated once WoO & Scooby re/open.- 406 replies

The US doesn't have a Mack Hyper yet, and I believe Wild West Falls might've been the tallest log flume 'til Dudley Do-Right's opened the following year (but I don't know for sure, there's no RCDB for log flumes).
-
Doors like the ones on Treasure Hunters make sense for it 'cause it rises rather high, and is commonly directly adjacent to rather harsh drop-offs & water. If I had to guess, going off the concept art (or just by choosing the more cost-effective/proven option), IMO vehicles like these'd be the more likely option they'd choose: http://www.gouldmanufacturing.com/antiqueautoride.html

The New Atlantis - Reviews & Reactions
Tricoart replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Again, they already have a pre-recorded message, but it seems the ride ops choose to shout the same things stated in the message both before, during, and after it plays for no inherent reason. Guess I only know of its existence ‘cause the ops chose not to do so one of the times I rode. Timestamp is when the message plays, but rewinding a bit you’ll hear ‘em shouting the exact same instructions beforehand: -
The New Atlantis - Reviews & Reactions
Tricoart replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I assume he means to put a loose article briefing video (a la Sky Voyager) in the hallway between the end of the queue & the beginning of the station (glass doors), and have that play while the train in the station is being loaded, as to not waste time having ride ops manually call out the briefing inside the station. May be wrong, though. Also, why are the ride ops manually doing the briefing in the first place? There's already a themed voiceover for it in the station, why would they not be using that? -
I'd argue this shares more similarities to "John Longhurst's Dreamworld" than the current iteration of the Vintage Car Ride, seeing as it is once again located in Rivertown, adjacent to the river of which it's name is derived. Yeah, it's a shame for supernerds that the vehicles will no longer be 'genuine' Model T replicas, but to everyone else they'll be good enough, and the downside of not being 'genuine' also leads to countless upsides (larger cars, better accessibility, reduced repair costs, reduced operating costs, reduced fumes, etc.).
-
I don't believe it'll have to be redone in the sense that it'll become a priority once they're stably in the green again, yeah it's a cheaply done patch-up job that's clearly a downgrade from the original area in a few aspects, but it's a hefty upgrade from post-pandemic/Big Red Car removal Wiggles World, and that's enough. Plus, worse looking areas have operated for much, even looking solely at Dreamworld there's a clear 'area' that's in much more dire need of retheming/beautifying than it'll be, that being Motocoaster/Steel Taipan/Giant Drop's permanent construction zone. Nonetheless, I think their priorities after getting in the green would (or, perhaps, should) be either a modern water ride, a Motocoaster replacement, a flagship DCR competitor, or onsite accommodation.
-
Yeah, but so did the train, which is what this’ll be compared the most to on here. What’s of utmost importance to them is making it safer, increasing it’s throughput, and making the theme/setting more interesting. If that means swapping out the Model T replicas for larger, modern, more stylised vintage cars, that’s what they’ll do, regardless of the charm or history of the original ride vehicles. And, if they do a good enough job at it, their target demographic won’t complain (might even openly welcome it, getting rid of the diesel fumes & all).
-
Really? I seriously never noticed, guess it's cause I didn't pay attention to the ride 'til now. But there's even a few individual supports that are painted 3 different colours in of themselves, it's such an eyesore to look at that i must've just assumed it was that way 'cause they're testing new paint or something.
-
‘Least they mirrored the sign here. Pavement’s being worked on throughout, seems it’s gonna be fake wood. Some more random angles of the site again: Seriously though, why so many paint colours on the supports? I know parks test colours w/ swatches, but these are complete supports painted drastically different colours in multiple locations.

Seeing as this is the closest we’ve got to an in-use Movie World update thread… Best pics of Superman’s work I could get: Marvin the Martian Construction: Couldn’t see for sure if there’s any footer work for SurfRider, partly because of all the work walls, and also because of the inability to view it from Batwing, because it too is surrounded by work walls now. Pics: Maybe they’re relocating Trident next (joking, kind of). And, saving the best for last, it seems the Joker has run out of Frozen Coke to steal.

It’s first & third element are intense, then it does nothing til the (now not-so-smooth) spaghetti bowl, then does nothing a few more times ‘til the last hills IMO. Whereas Superman’s consistent from launch to brakes.

Superman’s more intense, Levi’s more fun, and they’ve both got more soul/attention to detail than DCR does, but most voters’d still vote DCR just ‘cause it’s ‘Tallest, Longest, Fastest’ & more renowned than the others.

Updates/Pics from Today: New sign’s up: The updated placeholder map is also at the park: Some of the dodgems are already operating under the new paint: Some random pics of the Madagascar area: (pick a colour, any colour) Pics of the Giant Drop (pardon that they’re washed out, I accidentally shot them raw & had to use a sketch online converter for them to upload): Didn’t expect this’d still be there: Also didn’t expect this’d be here either. I don’t remember seeing it before, and judging by the lack of rust on the screws, it seems like a new sign. It was right beside the old Sheep Shearing Show shed. Maybe some Dreamworld loremasters might know what this is referring to, if anything: A minor tack-on nugget of info as I’m leaving, blacktop’s being added to the entrance to Dreamland:

Just got off, not anything to write home about. Short description of the ride now (or at least, as far as I got into the ride, which’ll become clear in a moment): Only exterior difference is an A-frame advertising the change. Entering the interior queue line, it was the exact same aside from a projector being broken. There was no pre-‘flight’ (or, in this case, ‘pod’) show, the ride op did the safety briefing themselves. Movie is okay, some weird dithering around the edges and a few clear CGI mishaps (namely, some Delorean-looking car vanishing from existence in plain sight). You drop into the water off a helicopter w/ a little mist spray & jiggle, manta rays swim above you, you jiggle around a bit more & see dolphins corralling a shoal of fish, see the shapeshifting Delorean, get sucked into a rock, and… the ride crashed. Completely broke down. Speakers conked it, screen went blank, lights on. Stuck there for maybe 10-20 minutes til engineers came and manually reset it, which in of itself took a few tries. From the short bit I saw of the ride before it crashed, though, it’s not as good as the Australia one. But, as of now, the new film lasted just under 3 hours, which is at least longer than Leviathan.
-
This is in the context of Sky Voyager, though, in which ‘changes’ would need to be much more than a new coat of paint.
-
Are they, though? From the concept art & current construction progress, my thoughts were that the only facades that’re for sure being changed are the Parent Room that’s already open, and a slight change with Belinda’s Tree House.
-
Especially with the consistent squeaking & groaning it does for whatever reason. It'd annoy the hell out of me if I was next to it 24/7, and I don't use sound to see like they do. I'm sure they dislike it at least to some degree, even if just as they were getting used to it, the question is if it's enough of a degree to be noticeable by staff, and if Vortex operates enough to warrant them being moved back to a different pool.

Storm Coaster vs. Wild West Falls vs. The Plunge
Tricoart replied to TBoy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Damn, this one might be the hardest one (for me, at least), cause IMO they’ve all got their individual strengths. WWF is one of the best themed/looking log flumes in the world, and its backwards drop is a pretty neat feature, which I imagine is even more surprising if you don’t expect it. Storm’s pretty decently themed too, but it being a coaster means it’s got much more going for it in regards to the ride itself (also, I like that the exit walkway has an offshoot where you can stand to watch splashdowns, and get yourself absolutely drenched if you wish to). The Plunge doesn’t really have any theming to note, but it plays it’s part greatly and IIRC is the wettest of the three, which I like. Ultimately, though, The Plunge just isn’t as noteworthy as the other 2, and the new boats on WWF are rather painful if you’ve got legs that are any thicker than usual, so IMO Storm’s the best out of the 3 rides in their current state. WWF with old restraints & operational theming is better, though.- 19 replies
