Superman queue possible storage box system
Tricoart replied to REGIE's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It does specifically say ‘removal of the lockers system’ in the announcement post, and they have those paid lockers near GL that serve that purpose anyway. They may need that space for whatever solution they plan for Superman, too. -
A practical use case for this would be, if the weather isn’t permitting for the ride to run in the dominantly outdoor section, but it’s favourable enough to run the indoor section, cycling that once or twice instead. Though, given the (hopeful) on-ride storytelling focus, the fact that doing so would necessitate 1 train ops/significantly lower capacity, and the already niche use case even in a more practical scenario (I doubt people’d want to ride/staff it in such conditions anyway), I’d be surprised if such a mode was programmed. At the end of the day, if a second go-around on either half were to be needed for whatever reason (turntable stuck in position, second half valley, etc.), there’s always manual operation/evacs.

Warner Bros. Movie World Park Update
Tricoart replied to ShakeShack's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Sorry, did you not see the part about it being #movieworldaus’s BIGGEST transformation to date? (They’re transitioning from the best theme park in the region to a barely passable amusement park). -
Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2024
Tricoart replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
That’s why I believe it’s too little, too soon. I don’t think there’ll actually be any significant change ‘til it’s next maintenance period (at least, if they’re actually planning on changing the queue in a meaningful way & not rushing a BandAid fix), & that they’ve just decided to mention it in passing now to bloat their reasons for rides being down across the park. -
Warner Bros. Movie World Park Update
Tricoart replied to ShakeShack's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Switching the discussion from the specific statements about some of the new information that’s going on in their respective threads, is Super Heroes & Super Villains even that much of an event? Iirc, all it did was add/change a parade (which I don’t pay attention to, but I know already includes some Heroes & Villains in its’ base setup anyway due to having walked past it a lot), everything else about the park seemed to be the exact same. -
The turntable can’t rotate anywhere near enough to facilitate this. Disregarding that it’s an inclined turntable on a flat pivot point, meaning doing a complete 180° turn would have it sloped to exit the opposite direction of the continuing track, the catwalks & supports don’t allow it, & the train/turntable track itself would smack straight into the ride building. I feel like there are 2 scenarios: One that is better but negates the choice entirely, and one that is rather unlikely given the plans, but is the only real way that any choice of forwards/backwards would make sense. The first option is the main one, that the ‘choice’ is solely referring to which half of the ride will be travelled backwards, with one half needing to be no matter what. The second, less ideal/likely option is that you choose what half of the ride you’re wanting to go on, dependent on the way the trains are oriented at the time, and not doing both halves in one cycle as was presumed. That seems like an operational nightmare with the station setup that exists (as well as a bit of a letdown) though, so I’d like to assume the former will be true, and the ‘choice’ only exists to offer more rerideability/thrill by choosing to ride the faster section backwards, and not for anyone that is averse to going backwards at all.

Superman queue possible storage box system
Tricoart replied to REGIE's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Will be interesting to see how they’ll deal with this whilst needing to keep separate load/unload stations, & not changing any of the ride experience. I feel like the most obvious solution is/was the aforementioned double-sided locker/storage bay either right before boarding or on the station platform, but either of those solutions have their own problems when not changing anything about the way the ride loads & unloads, as well as needing pretty significant queue route/building changes that only seemed within the realm of possibility if done alongside an eventual significant ride overhaul. Whatever it is, I hope that it’s not a short-term, BandAid solution to tide it over ‘til that time (hopefully) arrives, or they decide that it’s not worth doing. -

RPReplay_Final1714718949.mov Joke aside, at least they’re finally going to repaint the rest of DCR, and the Superman queue news is interesting, if perhaps sharing too little too soon to excuse some of the issues they’re having. -
In the Sunrise segment where they show the trains, the Dreamworld staff member that was interviewed states that riders’ll be able to choose between riding forwards & backwards.

I guess the difference is the section that a given train will be backwards for (1 being backwards for the first half/indoors, the other being backwards second/outdoors)?

Superman queue possible storage box system
Tricoart replied to REGIE's topic in Theme Park Discussion
More like, complicates the system with the existing lockers, adds an extra thing to train workers on, could make dispatches slower than their already glacial pace, and gives another reason to roster more than the bare minimum amount of staff. -
Breaking News: Village Roadshow theme park delays ride opening, replaces their already announced & advertised specific time period with vague subtitle.

Superman queue possible storage box system
Tricoart replied to REGIE's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I’ve seen Superman do this, but only rarely & out of necessity, likely ‘cause it’s more for the ride ops to do. -
That was very obviously (at least to me, and confirmed by the artist) meant to be no more than a vague idea of the area’s vibe, though, like with the earlier New Atlantis concepts.

Dreamworld’s released concept arts have been pretty accurate recently, to be fair. Out of all the things they’ve had concepts for in the past few years, the only thing I can think of that’s been misrepresented was the treetop piece on KFF’s main support.

I think it’s rather likely that the building isn’t consistently going to be at this height, and instead that the current section being built is it’s tallest (where the turntable’ll be), with the rest gradually levelling out to a more manageable height. This seems to be shown in the concept art, as well as the expected & somewhat intricately sculpted, ‘planted’, painted, etc. temple exterior, so I’d assume (or, yeah, hope) that at least this section in particular will have similar effort put into the exterior from all viewable angles. Especially considering that it backs directly onto Tiger Island, which already has a jungle/temple theme of its own, & having the train passing directly in between them both, not doing so would be a rather major missed opportunity.

Recent Dreamworld marketing / social media
Tricoart replied to GoGoBoy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don’t really think the posts themselves are the issue, if there’s anything to be changed it’s the frequency of them (and, even then, that’s not truly necessary). Dreamworld does, and has done, posts with the same vibe as those generally done by the Village parks (‘serious’ posts either when there’s something to update or something specific to promote), and they all seem to be met with no more than 50-60 likes on average. It’s their more ‘unserious’ posts (at least recently), which don’t always serve a direct/obvious purpose of promoting or updating, that get them significantly more engagement than their Village-esque posts do. At the end of the day, especially with Dreamworld in comparison to Movie World, the demographic here (both specifically & generally) is nowhere near the one/s this campaign is targeted at. Instead of going into the specificities of the demographic/s I believe they are attempting to target, I’ll just leave it off by saying the cliché “Even though you don’t like or understand something, that doesn’t mean it’s an inherently bad thing.”. And the engagement they’re getting with this campaign shows that. (Also, to be clear, this is mainly in regards to their Instagram posts, ‘cause I see Facebook as a relic best left untouched) -
No, they’re right, Dreamworld needs to change Sky Voyager’s facade. Maybe they could take some inspo from the masters like Disney… Seriously, though, the fact that all people have to complain about regarding Dreamworld is the style of a facade (that’s mostly blocked by DF in any angle that matters anyways) not being one they’d personally like, and a recent marketing campaign that’s slightly corny, (though getting increasingly repetitive) could be seen as a good thing.

Superman queue possible storage box system
Tricoart replied to REGIE's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Except, I can’t recall the last time I rode DCR when these weren’t shut off and used as nothing more than weirdly shaped cubbyholes. Which, IMO, would be the major issue with anything that’s mechanical & not necessary for the ride to operate, no matter how simple or complicated it may be, it’s upkeep will fall to the wayside & be replaced by (or used as) a system that doesn’t need any extra attention/care to operate. In the event of a Superman overhaul, and under the mutual assumption that they weren’t to keep the separate load/unload station, I’d imagine the loose article system they’d opt for would be similar to Leviathan/Steel Taipan/Storm: A bin/wall with compartments for riders to store their loose articles, with a sliding door that covers at least half of these compartments at all times, which may or may not be slid across by a ride operator between dispatches. In the scenario that they overhaul Superman, but keep it’s load & unload stations the way they are, I’d again imagine that they’d shy away from an overly complex system like on Yukon Striker, instead opting for the significantly simpler setups like what’s on Velocicoaster/Steel Vengeance/Jet Rescue/Motocoaster: Right before boarding, loose articles are placed into a double-sided cubbyhole or (free) locker, and are retrieved from the other side via the ride exit path. -

(Assuming this is once current projects are completed) Would it be better for the Gold Coast parks’ next projects, whatever they may be, to allocate a larger amount of resources on enhanced ride systems & advanced/unique layouts, or on thematic elements & surrounding area beautification? Example being (under the assumption that the ‘next project’ were to be a coaster, though this’d apply to any major ride project): Would it be better for GC parks to get an off-the-shelf/lower end ride model (Storm, WoO coasters, Gold Coaster, etc.) and pay close attention to enhancing the theme/storyline, or would it be better for them to get a customised layout (Jet Rescue, DCR, Jungle Rush, etc.), and trade some beautification/theming for a possibly higher reliability guarantee and/or a novel on-ride technology (e.g. Drop track/fast switch track, Articulating trains, Tilt drop)? -

Yet another blatantly obvious example of missing my point.
