There's also a special quality to true classics such as the Belmont Park Giant Dipper or Coney Island's Cyclone to be riding something that thrilled riders some 80 years ago.

Teenage girl dies on Disneyland ride
DisneyDoll replied to dreamworld_rulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I agree that the thrill rides at most Disney parks are tame by comparison to the rides at Six Flags etc. However I still believe that height restrictions limit some children from being able to enjoy certain attractions with their parents & I think that these type of attractions should be kept to a bare bone minimum at Disney parks. All the other parks cater almost & I said almost specifically for the thrill seekers & that's great...I love thrill rides too, but I expect something magical when I go to Disneyland, something that you just don't get at the other parks. One of the most popular rides ever built at Disneyland is Pirates Of The Caribbean...No white knuckles needed to enjoy this amazing feat of Imagineering & no height restrictions either. It stands the test of time & the recent movie additions to it just enhance it that little bit more. At the end of the day Disneyland will always change & evolve & that was Walt's plan, I just don't think that adding more "thrills" is necessarily the way to go. Imagineers can create wondrous adventures that the whole family can enjoy, adventures that make you ask..." How did they do that? "...This was Walt's aim after all &..he knew his stuff. This recent tragedy is beyond terrible & I truly feel for her family that expected a little bit more from the " Happiest Place On Earth " -

Teenage girl dies on Disneyland ride
DisneyDoll replied to dreamworld_rulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yes that's exactly right....Maybe Disney should start going back to the " family rides " that made the park famous. After all, that was what Walt built the park for in the first place....Less thrills & more imagination seems to be needed IMHO -
First up....LOVE the pic's I agree with your thoughts on restoration...It would be wonderful to see just a tad of it's former glory copied. The Spider was a great ride also & the spider on the web was a fantastic entrance to it...you used to swing out over the water which was quite thrilling imho. From what I understand the WildCat was sold off to another park after the Ghost Train fire closed the park...but I'm sorry I don't know what one perhaps someone else??..The WildCat ride itsef was VERY fun espescially as it twisted high up on the building & it had a couple of wicked drops & helix's that always delivered As for the Big Dipper carriage...now that's a WHOLE new memory altogether. I was quite young & I remember being tossed around as it plummeted along the track. By far the best wooden coaster I've ridden. Plenty of drops & turns & a great out & back formation with camel humps all along the way

OK guys... so just to make sure we agree w/each other. it's ride then trilogy of movie/merchandising spin offs right!? LOL

Big Dipper Car, Markings, and Lots of Fun!
DisneyDoll replied to T-bone's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Hi...Just in answer to your question about the Big Dipper. The carriages were yellow ( not fluro ) & the wood frame was painted white. From memory I think there were different coloured circles on each side of the carriages too but....it's been a LONG time :-) -
I have to agree with bigglesworth003....Park employees would know zip about what the companies future plans would be in that area. I REALLY would love to see us get our own Disneyland & I don't care what state they built it in either. Being a Sydneysider it would be wonderful to see it here but at this point I'd be happy to travel where ever it was to go. It would be no different than as I do now to visit WBMW & DW :-)
-
I went there on opening day & it was wonderful, the only problem then was due to heavy rainfall, the Thunderbolt hadn't been built but was laying in pieces over the ride area. Back then it was the best theme park in the country IMHO.
-
I also rode the Chipmunk many years ago, from memory it had quite a few dips on the outside of the structure...It was a fun ride
-
I agree...it's what's in the park that matters....Look at Disneyland, all you see is a train station at the front & maybe the tip of the Matterhorn, but once your inside.....:-)

Did the Bush Beast throw you out on the first hill too?

The problem I have w/LPS is that it's not an amusement park anymore IMHO...It's basically a shadow of it's former self w/corporate venues where there used to be rides. There are now so few rides to choose from that it's not a full days outing. The old LPS ( pre Ghost Train fire ) was an amazing & magical place to visit when I was a child & I would go there often. It had all that wonderful old world feeling & plenty to see & do for the whole day/evening. Now we just have a few carnival type rides accept for the ferris wheel & wild mouse &...that's it. At least LPM is holding on to some of the charm & hopefully renovating it to keep it going.

I agree completely & it wouldn't be a bad idea if they had the decency to have change machines near the lockers too...My friend & I had to walk from Superman to a store just in an attempt to get coins..how stupid
-
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you on that point. Have you ever been on Ghost Rider or Pysclone or Roar? These just to name a few are IMO kick arse rollercoasters. They may not be the fastest or as high as some of the metal coasters but they have their place & were the first type of coasters ever built. I guess it's a matter of preference but to me a woodie ( as long as it's well maintained ) is a much more fun coaster to ride than a metal one. They all go up & down but on a wooden one I always feel that out of control feeling that I just don't get on the metal coasters

GREAT looking ride, thanks for that Adam...I'm going to WDW this November & can't wait to ride it

I rode Superman w/my friend last week & we thought it was awesome & very smooth to ride. I loved how you flew out of your seat with each camel hump. I personally think it will do well accept a lot of kids were dissapointed that they didn't make the height restrictions &...the locker situation sucks IMHO

Bussy if you were being sarcastic then why didn't you use one of the to appropriate icons to relate that feeling? Also my name is not Diannasaurus....it's my understanding that most people on these type of sites tend to use chosen names...Is that a problem? BTW sarcasm is the lowest form of wit so perhaps it's a good thing that some people on this site have no concept of it

Was there any need for that comment? Regardless of your sexual preference, it's not at all appropriate.

New Ride destined for Luna Park a first for Australia!

Perhaps not & that's a fair statement, but if that's the case then they shouldn't make uneducated comments like that. -

Are you kidding???!!!....You obviously haven't been to many or any theme parks overseas right?? This ride may be the first of it's kind in Australia but it's nothing special IMHO. -

It's behind Coney Island ...saw it today...& I'm not overly impressed at all especially having to pay the extra #10 for a ride. -
