I think you're right Gazza! The image in the print edition is similar. There was a launch at the Showgrounds this morning to announce the new Adelaide Show Logo and new additions for this year. Can anyone remember if there was a touring version of this coaster in Australia, quite a few years ago? I recall riding something similar at the Melbourne many years ago!! Cheers, Blu

As reported in Adelaide's The Advertiser overnight. This new rollercoaster looks set to travel to other shows s well! Bluman Ride of Adelaide's life A $3 MILLION rollercoaster will provide Adelaide thrillseekers with their first taste of a stomach-churning, jaw-dropping loop ride. The Big Dipper is the centrepiece of a Royal Adelaide Show ride revival, designed to arrest flagging attendance figures amid growing hip-pocket pressure. The steel-framed 365m track has been built and assembled in Bucharest, Romania, and is about to be loaded into six 12m ship containers for the journey here. It replaces the 44-year-old crowd favourite, the Mad Mouse, which was demolished last year to make way for the $42 million exhibition complex. Owner Bob Lawrence, who sold the Mad Mouse to the Newcastle show, expects the new ride to outshine its predecessor. "It's a thrilling ride, you go upside down - something Adelaide hasn't seen before," Mr Lawrence said. "The rides are a very big drawcard for the Show - we've got a few new rides this year so we're probably offering the best children's rides in Australia." The Big Dipper also will be mobile. It will be dismantled every year to take to interstate shows. An Australian engineer tested the ride three weeks ago for safety compliance, amid tougher scrutiny following the Spin Dragon accident, in which 37 people were injured at the 2000 show. "In a safety sense it's actually better than we expected. South Australia is very safety conscious. My rides have had an excellent record with no accidents so we want to maintain that." As for the price - the 36 passengers who will be strapped into the three trains can expect to pay about $8 a ride. The Big Dipper is one of seven new rides which will be launched later today for the September show. Organisers are also unveiling a more upmarket brand and logo, and dumping longtime mascot Banjo the border collie. A greater emphasis will be placed on free entertainment to counter last year's 6 per cent drop in attendance, to 501,428, as families cope with growing economic pressures. Ticket prices will also remain on hold at $18 for adults, $11 for children and $47 for families. The new coater will be a Zyklon Loop Coaster. Not sute if it will be temporary or a permenant structure. There is also talk, that the layout of the carnival area may change this year. The Adelaide Showgrounds are currently going through a $42 million upgrade, which is due for completion in August 2008. Just in time for this years Adelaide Show!

The Mad Mouse at Rye was the former ride from the Melbourne Showgrounds. The Adelaide Mad Mouse is currently in storage!

Rye is located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. The Rye Foreshore Carnival has been operating for more than 40 years by Wittingslow Amusements (now called Amusements Australia). From what I have found it is operating this year from early evening to 11pm. The only exception is New Years Eve, after a riot on the foreshore last year has had local authorities rethink activities this year. Careerjet had a listing for ride attendants (paying $15 per hour) for The Scorpion, however, the usual AA rides are likely to be there: the Mad Mouse, the Pirate, Zipper, Matterhorn, Breakdance and a selection of kiddies rides. I am surprised that local tourism sites don't have alot of information about the carnival?

These pictures were taken earlier this week. The first 2 on Monday and the third on Tuesday.

Attended the Adelaide Show today! I was curious at the price being charged for most of the rides. In this case, a majority were in the $8.00 range for the thrill rides. However, I was surprised that Space Roller was charging $10.00 to ride after 6.00pm. Was this case at Sydney's Easter Show and Brisbane's EKKA. I do recall paying $8.00 last year at the Melbourne Show, but there was no premium for the evening! Considering the age of the Mad Mouse, which is also the last year of it operation, it was charging $8.00 for your first ride and $6.00 for subsequent rides with a stamp. It had a constant stream of riders all day. Most rides seemed to have a healthy number of riders throughout the day, however, it was also Terrific Tuesday, where you could get entry and unlimited rides between 10.00am and 2.00pm for $50.00. Power Surge looks great, as did the Love Express. Though in my opinion, the carnival area looked empty and show organisers should look at this for next year. It was very heavy with games, which were struggling for patrons. Some old favourites such as the Zipper have not been in Adelaide for a number of years. Though a new roller coaster has been promised for next year to replace the Mad Mouse. (Will this be the Taipan?) Interested to hear other peoples views?

Went to the Adelaide Show today! To ride the Mad Mouse cost $8.00. $6.00 for second and subsequent rides if you got your hand stamped. It was inline with other ride costs at this years show.
-
From Adelaide's Advertiser Royal Show Guide, has stated that the Mad Mouse will be replaced with a new temporary roller coaster for the Adelaide Show from next year. Also, 2 of the Mad Mouse cars are being donated, one to the Adelaide Show's Archives, the other will be auctioned at the forthcoming Olympic Dinner to help send athletes to the Beijing Olympics. Will be interested to see how much they get?
-
Whilst there is much discussion over whether you'll have to pay for the Bumper Cars; has MW confirmed that this will be the case? At this stage, speculation has only been made on an individuals posting! Is Intencity going to be a temporary attraction for the summer period?
-
If I remember rightly, the Mad Mouse was $6.00 to ride last year! It would be great if it was to be retained in SA somewhere. Its current site is being transformed into another large scale pavilion. so I dont think it will be moved to another sector on the showgrounds site.

As this is the last year of the Mad Mouse at the Adelaide Show, following is some facts and figures from its last 44 years. minimum height in metres for Mad Mouse riders: 1.2m number of people normally in a Mad Mouse carriage: 2 number of carriages on the Mad Mouse: 16 (though the ad says 12?) number of seconds a ride takes: 60area in square metres the Mad Mouse covers: 608.35 number of people who ride the Mad Mouse at the Show each year: 30,000–40,000 number of people who have ridden the Mad Mouse: 1.5 million I will be taking a trip down memory lane and will ride the Mad Mouse for one last time!

FIVE members of one family plunged to their deaths while another two were left clinging to a rail 20m in the air when their ferris wheel car overturned in South Korea. Four people, including a 68-year-old woman and a seven-year-old boy, died at the scene in the southern city of Busan, police said. A 28-year-old woman died in hospital later, the Associated Press reported. There were seven relatives in the ferris wheel car, but the other two were able to cling to handholds, police officer Yoon Jae-man said. Jeon Un-sung, 70, who was rescued from the car, said: "the slowly moving gondola suddenly stopped and turned upside down and family members fell in a flash" when the window behind the seats fell out of the car, according to Yonhap news agency. The 66m high "Giant Wheel" has 42 cars. It as is among 30 rides at the World Carnival mobile amusement park that opened in Busan after arriving from Hong Kong, Yonhap reported. http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0...129-912,00.html

It contains a number of attractions including a carousel, dodgem cars, bumper boats, waterslides, mini golf, a train and numerous arcade games. It is proposed to build a 25 mtere, 16 gondola ferris wheel. They are claiming it is Australia's first single arm wheel? It is due to open in October.

I think you would find that the fee would be significantly higher than that considering the cross promotional benefits that Dreamworld gets. It would be more realistic to say this fee would be at least $300,000 at an outside guest! But why would SSE be in a hurry to leave the Dreamworld Compound? The infrastructure is already in place, and not to mention the significant funding the production receives from the Queensland government.

The Prison Break Live attraction currently at Melbourne's Luna Park will be a feature attraction at this year's Royal Adelaide Show. It was announced tonight during Prison Break on Channel 7.

You entered from the Toy Department and via the covered walkway. From the Rialto Tower you can see the remains of what it once was!

From the limited footage on the news tonight, it looked as though the kid did something to Tiggers back and Tigger tried to prevent him from doing it further.

Does anyone else recall the Roof Top Carnival at the Myer Store in Melbourne. It had a number of attractions including a pretzel style train and a number of animatronic scenes similar to their Christmas Windows. It only operated in the lead up to Christmas and through the school holidays. You accessed it through the toy department on the 6th Floor of the Lonsdale Street Store. I fondly remember it as a kid and do recall going there many times after the obligatory visit to Father Christmas. Does anyone have any further information or any pictures? Cheers, Bluman ps: I can check with Myer's Publicity Department, but I am aware Myer dispensed with alot of its History and Museum Collection in the 90's in a clean up.

What ever happened to Tops at the Myer Centre Brisbane???

The remmants of Dazzleland is still there except for any attractions. Though a majority of that level is closed to the public (parts are used by Fernwood, a female only gym) you can still see signage from the level below. -
A ROYAL Show ride that collapsed and injured 37 people received no maintenance for almost five years before the accident, a court heard today. The District Court was told bolts in the Spin Dragon ride that broke, dropping a 4.3 tonne gondola, had been in danger of snapping “for years”. Those injured in the incident are seeking compensation from the ride’s owner, manufacturer and maintenance team in a class action lawsuit. On September 2, 2000, a section of the Spin Dragon came loose and fell, bounced off the ride’s base platform and crashed into a queue of people. The court heard 44 of the 48 bolts connecting the gondola to rotating metal arms broke due to fatigue. The remaining four were “like stretched pieces of plasticine” and gave way to the tremendous weight exerted upon them. According to the manufacturer’s manual, the bolts were supposed to be tested after every 500 hours or use, or every six months. Peter Eriksen, for the victims, said that had never occurred. “The ride was in Australia for 54 months before this tragic incident,” he said. “Therefore there were eight times, at least, the bolts should have been checked, and were not. “No one, from the operator to the chief engineer, ever inspected or tested the bolts.” The trial, before Judge Dean Clayton, is continuing. http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0...5006301,00.html

It is was interesting to see what was happening out in the regionals. A number of regionally based councils have expressed a desire to have a theme park of some description in their region to promote tourism etc.
