  1. What next... a convenience store? Pathetic. Someone needs to remind these Aussie parks what a THEME park actually is. They keep trying to be something else
  2. Disgraceful. I always thought the steam was water vaper based or something similar. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the gas. It used to be warm but it had no smell from what I remember. Either way how very disappointing. It was a great feeling bursting through the steam out into the open
  3. Just watched the youtube pov on the Bermuda. Those neon tubes are even worse than I imagined! Just a random clump of neon. There is surely so much else they could do that would be better than that. Also, I couldn't tell if the big burst of smoke was still there as the boat goes down the last drop and exits the volcano. It would be absolutely ridiculous if that was gone too
  4. Wow that Expedition Everest ride looks amazing (despite the glitch)! I love Disney! And I always thought Animal Kingdom was supposed to be an average park
  5. Pathetic. Two of the best rides at Sea World and Movie World (Wild West and Bermuda) are just a shadow of their former glory. Not good
  6. I don't think that's correct at all. Waterparks across the world drive their attendance growth through new waterslide attractions. If anything I think WnW should steer away from trying to become any weird type of theme park/water park hybrid
  7. Someone mentioned on the DW Facebook page that it looks like the TOT is the ride that will be getting the re-launch as it is closed in both March and again in June. The June closure is only 2 weeks so would that really be enough time for any serious upgrade? I was disappointed that the Giant Drop won't be down for maintenance for any significant period meaning this probably won't form part of the re-launch. I was really hoping we'd see a re-work of both attractions and a full upgrade of the tower itself. Guess not!
  8. So this could potentially be the rumoured new slide for WWW early this year. We discussed this more in the latest thread in the WWW forum (to which nobody has replied or commented on my new slide layout yet!!)
  9. Good stuff Gazza. I have also put together an idea of what I was thinking might work. It is not to scale as I was just playing around so Gazza you might be able to give a better indication of whether the positioning would be feasible and whether it would all fit in. I have created 2 variations, one is smaller to give the entire layout...
  10. Hmm interesting point Gazza. A turbo tunnel combined with an open speed slide as shown in that WhiteWater West schematic could work well. They would have to somehow build it over parts of the hydrocoaster. From what I can work out the splashdown area would almost run into the wavepool unless they can somehow angle it to run into that vacant area next to the pool. It is certainly an attraction that would go well at the park as there is a need for these types of slides. It may not be a major drawcard however. One would not be enough they would certainly be better going with both of them as shown in the illustration. I would also be happy with a boomerango
  11. Is that tower at the front of the park really tall enough to accommodate a particularly thrilling attraction? Seems a little small to me for any type of freefall slide or turbo tunnel. I also can't imagine it working very well with a shared queue line. Are there any other examples of this? Imagine how long the queues will be if people are actually lining up in the same line for 2 major attractions. Surely they are better off to construct a new tower for this
  12. We're talking about the tower at the front of the park right? And tipsy_bella although you are not willing to reveal the type of slide can you at least reveal what you think of it? Do you think people will be impressed? Will it be a worthwhile addition? I don't mind WhiteWater World expanding one attraction at a time. I think if they had gone ahead with the whole phase 2/3 expansion all in one hit then it wouldn't have left much up their sleeve. In saying that though the park really does need to expand outwards so it's no longer such a small park. They really need an attraction which is going to suck up some people and give them more to do for longer periods such as a lazy river
  13. Is there any space on the existing towers for this? I would have thought they were all pretty much full with at least 2 attractions on each. How can they cram in anything else? I'd also be surprised if this new slide was launched in March as they normally launch around September
  14. Oh-oh! Sounds like it could end up being a 'filler' attraction along the lines of the various recent additions at Dreamworld. Some sort of interactive skill attraction or something similar. As far as I was aware there was no budget for a new ride or slide in the first part of the year which makes me think this will be something minor
  15. I just can't imagine 4 of these looping slides taking up prime position at the front of the park. Particularly the fact that they may remove signature attractions to do it. It seems to me like WnW is getting more and more random with their additions as we saw with the Surf Rider roller coaster. I guess you could say it certainly is becoming more of a thrill park and aiming for that teen market. I don't think that's a great move. I much prefer Village Roadshow's Phoenix Wet n Wild which in my opinion was very well designed with all of those classic waterpark elements but also with a number of well integrated cutting edge slides. I also happen to think that those looping slides are ugly (especially all of the stairs and support structures needed for them) but then again most of WnW's additions now are ugly. It would also seem strange not to place these new slides in the H20 Zone precinct as this has now become the designated 'thrill' zone. The front of the park has always been for more family style attractions
  16. That's just awful. Maybe this place should concentrate on waterslides and forget about trying to be a 'theme park'. Some of their slides seem quite okay and they could become more of a Jamberoo style park
  17. With the removal of these slides the park will suffer from a lack of enclosed tube slides. That will leave Black Hole (and possibly some of the river rapids slides?) as the only enclosed slides in the park. I think that's a shame as I prefer enclosed slides... they would normally form the staple of any decent waterpark
  18. I hope it does end up being a splash battle for Sea World. I have some secret desire to ride one of those things. Must be the big kid in me
  19. I think it would be a great move on the part of DW if they did a complete overhaul of the ToT and Drop including full refurbishment/re-painting of the tower, new theming and queues fixed up, new carriages for Giant Drop and a revamp of Tower of Terror with improved acceleration and higher peak reached. They truly are DW's signature attractions and are getting ooold so some much needed TLC would be justified
  20. Any reason behind MW having one of the busiest days in park history? I hope SW has been equally as busy as they have recently added 2 'new rides' with Jet Rescue and Sea Viper. Movie World hasn't done a lot lately so I wonder what would justify this big increase in numbers
  21. Thanks for the photos by the way Gazza. I was just looking through them and I have to say despite my earlier negative comments regarding the additions to the trains, the trains themselves actually look pretty good from the front. I really like the seat backs although unfortunately these get covered by people sitting in them. I also think the nose of the trains (including the branding) look quite sleek
  22. Thanks very much for posting the article themparkgc! Looks like it's going to be a good year for the parks. I'm surprised that they have revealed so much, particularly WnW who have come out and said exactly what they're getting. Normally they are more secretive so I'm glad they've opened up a bit. In regards to Dreamworld I would be VERY surprised/impressed if they refurbed an existing ride as well as add an entire new ride and expanded the waterpark all in the one year. I guess it's not completely impossible though. I'm glad to hear they are going to upgrade/refurb one of the big 6... as we all know it's much needed. No doubt this will start much discussion about which ride it's going to be. I had a similar thought process to remanimated35. I figured from what they said it might be Tower of Terror. If this ends up being correct I seriously hope they re-paint and fix up the tower as part of the upgrade - it looks terrible at the moment. I also thought Wipeout was a possibility as I believe they have had some mechanical problems with it? And then there's Motocoaster which is a failed ride in desperate need of a re-work. I doubt they'd doing anything to it though considering how new it is
  23. Those wrap around panels look awful... just awful. They look like something from a 1970's carnival ride. I agree with the sentiment on here - what is the point of these new 'open' carriages if you have to completely close them in? It really takes away from the modern design. Wouldn't their engineers have told them this before they ordered the trains? Are these really the best carriages they could have opted for considering the modifications which had to be made?
  24. Haha thanks Gazza. So Glad they have gone back to implementing proper theme park signage. There is a video of Sea Viper on Youtube and I happened to notice the sign in that... I must say I was quite happy. Certainly much better than Jet Rescue's 2D sign. Is that all there is though? I would expect there to be additional signage and some theming (even if minimal) at the entrance to the ride eg. over or next to the pathway
  25. I would much prefer an upgraded and re-branded ride as a new attraction over a new 'show' any day...
