Some good points there Richard. However the CEO specifically said if the waterpark performs well and has high attendance levels, which they are expecting it will, then they would strongly consider expanding the park. He certainly gave the impression that large attendance is what would trigger expansion and not the other way around

I just finished listening to an audio file of the Macquarie Leisure EOY financial presentation. It is quite interesting and is publicly available on the Macq Leisure website. There were a number of items which the CEO (Greg Shaw) mentioned in relation to Whitewater World. As this info has now been essentially made public by the company themselves, I can discuss it on here. Greg mentioned that the park will have not only a Nickelodeon themed play structure but also a Wiggles themed area. It will cater for the younger kids really well and is a perfect tie-in with Dreamworld. It is likely to be a toddler pool with slides and interactive features. The other point worth discussing was the revelation that Macq Leisure is already considering future expansion of the waterpark. Greg talked about using the car park area at the back of the park as the obvious choice for expansion. He did however say this would all depend on how well the waterpark does initially. So if they get good numbers through the door there is a very, very high chance they will add more attractions in the near future. This is the perfect excuse for all you park junkies to get over to Whitewater World as soon as it opens and have as much fun there as you can, as often as you can. The higher the attendance, the more chances there are that the park will get bigger and even better

new merry-go-round for luna park sydney

In some cases this is true but definitely not all. In the case of ex-Wonderland owners Sunway and the current Luna Park Sydney owners I'd agree strongly -

Yes I agree completely. I wouldn't expect anything if he didn't keep saying it. The point I'm making is if you're not actually going to do something (and it's fine if you're not), stop continually saying you are -

It's starting to get like the boy who cried wolf. I have no problem if you don't have time to post any photos... the only problem I have is that you keep saying you ARE going to post photos! If you aren't going to do it then don't say anything -

What's happening with those pics Tony? I'm looking forward to seeing them and you keep mentioning them every week but they never appear?! -
Going by their website I don't like the look of any of their coasters. They all look so dated and most of them are models we've seen over and over again. It's a shame they didn't decide to go with a company that could have created a truly impressive and unique coaster. We certainly don't need another Lethal Weapon or (god forbid) another Cyclone

I think a lazy river is definitely on the cards for the very near future. My guess is that they had to be very careful what they spent their money on as they would have wanted to keep the initial construction costs as low as possible while still building a good park. Logically they would have wanted to add a number of top notch attractions that offer something different to Wet 'n' Wild's line up. While a lazy river is a great attraction and would certainly help with capacity, I don't see it as a major drawcard attraction. The fact that WnW already has a large lazy river makes this even more the case. For their money they would have wanted as many drawcard attractions as possible, which I think they've got. I am sure once the park is open and has been running for a while and is drawing in large attendance levels, they will then look at adding more higher capacity attractions such as a river -
Don't panic it is meant to be for little, little kids so ofcourse it's going to be small. I wouldn't expect anything else. However at least it is going to be a proper permanent ride probably with good theming and presentation. It'll be a much better effort than the sort of little kids rides you find at Luna Park which aren't even built into the concrete and have no presentation whatsoever

I just found a very cool recent aerial photo of the entire waterpark. It is part of the financial report which Richard mentioned above so is available for public viewing. Have a look at http://www.macquarie.com.au/au/property/ac...tation_2006.pdf and scroll down until you find the photo. Note how cool the shape of the wavepool is - it's got a very natural looking lagoon style entry rather than the basic shapes of traditional wavepools -
http://www.australianamusementfanatics.com has the first construction pictures for the tea cups in their Dreamworld forum in the post 'September 2006 - New ride'. It's good to see the tea cups are actually being built within the Wiggles World area and not a completely different section of the park

Those particular pieces you are talking about are definitely for the Octo Racer. I gotta tell you I can't wait to ride that thing. Rich - did they formally announce any of the other attractions? Otherwise it would seem strange if they just announced the Octo Racer and nothing else. By the way everyone there are some more really good construction photos at http://www.australianamusementfanatics.com in the Dreamworld Waterpark forum. Scroll down to the bottom of the 'More Construction Pictures' thread for the latest pics from a few days ago -

As construction progresses a bit more over the next couple of weeks we should be able to discuss more. Coaster Boy - why don't you post a list of the attractions you'd most like to see in the park and I'll tell you how close your list is to the actual thing... -

I think they will get some recognition out of it, even if it's not huge. It's all good nonetheless. I remember you saying you were hoping for an Octo Racer Gazza so you must be happy about it personally? -

Coaster Boy 6 - just to put you out of your misery there will not be any Dark Mammoth or Turbo Tunnel slides from what I know. However I have heard the park may look at these in the near future. As Gazza said, the world first 8 lane Octopus Racer is a definite. Although not officially announced by the park yet, I think it's ok to discuss it as the construction pics have made it fairly obvious -

Yes I'd say the construction at this point has made it obvious that one of the attractions coming off tower 3 will be a ProSlide Octopus Racer. This is certainly something to get excited about as they look like incredibly fun rides. The other thing worth mentioning from the latest Ozcoaster update is the interactive play structure currently under construction which is being themed to Nickelodeon. You can see the giant Nickelodeon splashdown bucket on site. I personally think this a very clever tie in with the already exisiting (and successful) theming of Dreamworld's Nick Central area. I have not seen many waterparks use cross-promo branding but it definitely makes sense -
That's probably true Bussy BUT the council should have made a way bigger deal of it all when the park first announced the closure. Instead they wait until some worthless sign is sold and THEN say what a terrible loss. Sunway got away with it all scot free and with hardly any bad press

I can tell you guys now that if you look at some of the slide pieces in the photos and then do a bit of research (have a look at some of the slides in photos on US waterpark websites) you will get a good idea about some of the stuff they are getting. The Tornado will be all green. The red larger slide pieces are mostly for the 2nd attraction on tower 2 (sharing the tower with the Tornado). Although for some reason the final tubing pieces of the 2nd ride is an off red/brown colour... don't know why they just didn't keep it red -

There's a new and very cool update over on ozcoaster.net Some of you guys should be able to guess some of the attractions the park is getting by looking at the pics closely -
Exactly! Unfortunately Wonderland and Sunway appear to have done some damage to the reputation of the leisure/amusement market in Sydney. However, most of us know the real situation behind Wonderland's closure. Regardless of Sunway's ficticious press releases, relative to the parks absolute minimum capital expenditure in the last few years it was certainly getting good numbers through the gates. The demand for leisure/amusement in Sydney has now been proven with the reopening of Luna Park. The amusement park itself is going great guns and that is with less rides than it ever had in its previous incarnations. It opened its gates in 2004 and was an instant success, so much so that it exceeded the Directors forecasts. 2 and a bit years later and with no upgrading or expenditure on the fun park it still appears to be getting good numbers. I wonder if Village or Macq Leisure have considered Sydney at all? Even a waterpark could go down well

joz you're such a stirrer! By the way I love the quote in your signature. According to mattcrombie Wet 'n' Wild actually was pretty much down for maintenance last weekend with most of the major slides closed. Don't you just hate posts like this one when the person contributes nothing relevant to the topic?

I don't know why you'd even factor FlowRider into the equation. I personally wouldn't care in the slightest if I visited the park and the FlowRider wasn't operating. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun on the REAL rides

I was reading the forums over at www.australianamusmentfanatics.com and it appears they are the first to announce a new ride at Dreamworld in September. This information now appears on the Dreamworld website under the 1st birthday celebrations for Wiggles World but I don't think any of us noticed it. The new ride will be called Dorothy's Rosy Tea Cup Ride. I think this is a very sensible addition as Wiggles World in its current state is somewhat lacking in my opinion. I think this will certainly help the area as long as it is themed and positioned well. I'm also glad to see Dreamworld occasionally remembering that it IS a theme park. Now that they're finally adding a new ride for kids lets hope they add a new ride or 2 for the big kids soon after
-
WnW may have made the first public announcement but don't forget decisions about these sorts of things are usually made well before any announcements. Therefore the time of the press release does not really tell you anything in terms of who had the idea for a Tornado first
-
Pfft what do they think, that those signs were there from the start? I don't think so. They were both added only a few years ago and are certainly not 'historical'. Particularly the sign with the blue logo, it's no more than a couple of years old. I remember it was only in the last year of the park being open that the Hulk and Spiderman cutouts were added to the sign. And if the councillor is so concerned about the removal and sale of the signs from the park due to what Wonderland meant to so many people then why on earth did they allow Sunway to sell and demolish the entire park in the first place? What a joke
