  1. You are wrong there Alex. That is not Luna Park's heritage. As Jobe said, Luna Park was once an elaborately themed fun park. Every ride had detailed facades and entry ways. People always used to say it was like entering another world. There were never any randomly placed carnival rides, certainly not until the much later years anyway. And while the park may never have been a theme park like Disneyland, the excellent dark rides like the River Caves and the huge Ghost Train were really well themed. There was a massive amount of effort put into creating the original fun park compared to virtually no effort for the current park
  2. Oooh how I'd love to see the disappointed looks on some of those spoilt brats faces. Although I do feel sorry for the ride ops who are undoubtedly copping unjustified abuse by a number of unreasonable parents
  3. It doesn't sound like Superman is getting any rave reviews which is interesting. I thought people would love it but it sounds like it is more good rather than great
  4. Smelly operators and horny teens? Hmm interesting post
  5. matty - it would make sense if that was the case and I certainly hope it is. However, when it comes to theme parks most Aussies aren't that educated on them and seem to make stupid decisions. People can't seem to let go of Dreamworld for some reason. So I wouldn't be surprised if Dreamworld's attendance remains steady, if not grows. There's something about a whole heap of rides stuck around the place outdoors with little to no theming that Australians seem to love. We are not that heavily into theming which is a real shame. Hopefully that is starting to change now. Support the theme park with the latest and greatest rides I say!
  6. The place should be packed with a ride like this. I wonder if crowds are down on what they were expecting
  7. I think the residents have every right to complain about the rides in Maloney's Corner. Especially this latest temporary addition. It is just so intrusive. While I think the residents don't have a leg to stand on regarding the rides within the main park boundary, Maloney's Corner is an exception and shouldn't have been allowed. The residents would never have expected any major rides to be placed in this area, as they never were in the past. The park should have spent a bit more money on proper planning and avoided this. All those people who come out with the typical statement "but Luna Park was there first!" don't realise the full situation. Maloney's Corner was NOT there first, the residents were
  8. That is the funniest thing I have ever heard! Surely even people who haven't been overseas realise that Luna Park is a very average fun park. It's not even a full fun park anymore. I'm so sick of this attitude of "hey, it's the only thing we've got in Sydney so it's great!". It's not great at all. The operators don't even care about the fun park - they just run the place for corporate functions and for selling off pieces of land for commercial gain
  9. You have to remember Lunaparkfanatic that Dreamworld is most definitely not Luna Park Sydney. And thank god for that. The park spends millions of dollars on their new quality attractions, it would be a shame to ruin it with dodgy temporary rides. They are a serious theme park not a pile of asphalt with old carnival rides scattered around randomly
  10. I was just looking at the latest photos of H20 extreme zone (thanks for those by the way Richard). Now is it my imagination or is WnW building another stock standard freefall and speed slide in this area? If so, I think it's terrible idea. They already had a speed slide and they gave it a much needed upgrade and converted it into the speed coaster only a few years ago. Speed slides are so '1980's Australian waterpark' and are certainly no cutting edge attraction. If this is the case, bring on Dreamworld Water Park which will no doubt have better offerings. I'm not liking the look of H20 zone so far, nothing about it appeals to me. So bland
  11. Anybody can get a portable ride and dump it on some asphalt and call it a 'new ride'. Luna Park is supposed to be a permanent park, so I am never impressed with their 'holiday offerings'. On top of this, the ride costs an additional $10 AFTER you have purcahsed a standard $39 rides pass
  12. Found a good article in the SMH about the current state of LPS and Multiplex. It continues on for 3 pages so be sure to use the link at the bottom of the page to scroll through. http://www.smh.com.au/news/arts/ride-of-a-...3311137125.html
  13. For my comments, refer to Richard's post. I couldn't agree more. Very excited about the impact of the new water park
  14. The only things I particularly want to see are a master blaster, a nice long lazy river and a whole heap of really colourful and fun tube slides. Also hope to see some good quality theming and signage to create the right atmosphere. The rest they can surprise me with
  15. I'm very surprised with his comments. What makes him think Wet 'n' Wild should have a monopoly on the marketplace? Water parks are so common in America and there's no reason why there shouldn't be more in Australia. In addition, one of the major problems with WnW has been its capacity. There's nothing worse than standing in line half naked for a water slide for half an hour. In my opinion, another water park is needed, even if just for capacity issues alone
  16. Exactly. DW is still in desperate need of a real roller coaster or 2. No one is denying that. But in the meantime this water park is going to be a great addition. It's going to be considered as a separate entity to the DW theme park itself, so there is still a chance of a coaster in the next year or 2
  17. That's what I love about this site (and the industry in general) - you never know when you're going to log on and get some really exciting news. We should give ourselves a pat on the back - a number of us predicted this would be Dreamworld's next move. See, we're very in touch with the industry! I am really glad to hear this is happening. A bit of water park competition in Australia is a good thing as we have never had it before, with such few water parks previously. I'm surprised they are spending so much money on it though and charging separate admission. I certainly hope this means they are getting rid of Blue Lagoon... I assume they would otherwise it wouldn't make very good business sense. I'm certainly feeling sorry for Wet 'n' Wild at this point, they must be feeling quite nervous. Thanks for bringing us the announcement Rich. Any idea where the park is going to end up? On the old TB site?
  18. Errr.... what kind of 'teen' speaks like that? I was a teenager only a few years ago and I never, never spoke or wrote like that. None of my friends did either. It's ridiculous. Who are these kids?
  19. No, Wittingslow was involved with LPS in 1995. You are getting confused with the consortium which took over the park in the early 80's. The consortium consisted of Harry and Col Goldstein and initally Michael Edgley, who resigned after a year (interesting that Michael Edgley was also 'involved' in the latest version of Luna Park, and once again seems to have left the project). The company only really seemed interested in developing the park into offices, units and restaurants. It was at this time in the 80's that they demolished most of Luna Park's history including the Big Dipper and River Caves. When Wittingslow took over in 1995 there was very little left of the park anyway and so they essentially had to rebuild it from scratch
  20. I actually thought the TV ad was quite good. I'm glad they kept away from anything to do with that terrible website. It certainly serves the purpose and makes it look exciting
  21. I'm not loving the look of the trains. They look like lego and not very modern. Is there more work to be done on them yet? Some sort of a paint job besides 'yellow'? And are there 1 or 2 cars missing off the back?
  22. Ofcourse marketing affects the way people feel or think about a product - otherwise it wouldn't exist. I've always felt that part of the excitement of a new attraction at a theme park is the build up and marketing surrounding the ride. It's the whole package that completes the experience. The Superman Escape website is the only official release the general public have had from the park regarding the new ride so therefore it's all there really is to go by. And if this is the way they are going to represent the ride then it does give me a different impression. Luckily I've seen and heard a fair bit of info on these fan sites but if it weren't for that, I certainly wouldn't be impressed. Warner Village used to have great marketing - particularly all their brochures and artwork. I'm just wondering if the marketing team changed recently? None of it seems to be quite as good anymore which is disappointing. Obviously they are trying to compete with Dreamworld for the teen market - but DW has managed to do it in a much more relevant and subtle way. DW's rides are also generally more generic so you can get away with focusing on the thrill factor etc. MW has strong theming and the ride is about Superman so this is where a large part of the focus should be
  23. There is some fool in Movie World's marketing department who created or approved this and they need to be fired. They are ruining the promotions for a perfectly good ride. It's like its been put together by a 70 year old trying to be cool and 'hip' and appeal to young people. I would suggest anyone who is like me and thinks the SE site and general marketing is poor, dash off a brief email to Movie World letting them know. I told them I was excited about the ride but that they're website for the attraction is bad, very bad. When I first saw the hoarding go up around the ride's perimetre with the logo I thought the marketing looked promising. But so far the only good thing is the logo
  24. How disappointing.. the site is tragic. It is one of the most pathetic and obvious attempts to tap into the teen market I have seen. And where is the theming tie-in that Movie World is famous for? Why did they even bother slapping Superman in the title if they are not going to follow along with that? This is very unlike Movie World. And now, in the spirit of the website, I have this to add - This ride is gunna be INSANE. Fully Sik! Coz it looks wicked to the max. Luv ya's all
  25. Richard - where are you? Can you possibly help Paul out with the photo problem?
