Yeah I also remember reading in Luna Park's original development plans (which I think they had on the old website and various other places) that the area to the north of Coney Island was only to become a 'children's playground'. That's why on the first day I visited the new park I was totally shocked to find the Ranger and Spider plonked out the back. I never liked it from the start and really think Luna should consider moving some of the rides back into the main park. I think we all agree there are definitely areas of the main park that are still fairly empty and sparse and could reasonably easily accomodate some of these rides. In fact I truly believe the Midway in its current state is crying out for more rides to be scattered around. They would need to be fairly creative with positioning but in the long run I think it would suit the park better (and be more in line with the original layout). Even if it means they don't have room for the temporary rides in the holidays, I don't think it will matter too much. It might just mean they will have to get in a new permanent ride or change some of the ride line-up every couple of years. Come on Luna, we all support you on this site but most of us agree Maloney's Corner was not the best idea. However, the rest of the park (including the Tumble Bug) should be allowed to continue to operate. I sure hope the residents lose that part of the site or else the park really will be in trouble

In today's SMH they mentioned 5 rides were subject to the legal action. They said 3 of these rides were permanent and 2 were temporary. I have no idea what 'temporary' rides they are talking about. To the best of my knowledge, the only temp ride at LPS for these school hols is the Dominator. The Ranger, Spider and Tumble Bug are the 3 permanent rides. I can understand the complaints about Spider and Ranger due to their current location. However, the Tumble Bug should not be included as it is located in the main section of the park. The ride sits on part of the site of the old Big Dippers. The residents could have had it a lot worse if the original wooden Big Dipper had not been demolished. The Tumble Bug should definitely be left out of this

They will never give up. Some people are like that. It is really disgraceful. The only thing I would agree with is that large rides like the Ranger in Maloney's Corner seem out of place and this area was never a part of the park in the old days. But the problem is I would imagine the residents would continue to complain about the rest of the park even if Maloney's got shut down. As I said, they never give up

As I have said before in previous posts, I think a Perilous Plunge would be a perfect fit for Dreamworld's Ocean Parade. I was hoping this would be the new addition we'd see instead of the Claw. A large water ride would have suited the area a lot better than a gyro swing themed as an animal's claw. And sorry Dreamworld fans but I am still not convinced by that particular theming choice. I always wondered what Creature Cruise was like. I remember seeing it advertised on TV and the next time I visited the park the whole ride was cemented over. Apparantley it was created 'in-house' by Dreamworld's staff and was a total failure. For anyone that got a chance to ride it - can you please give us some details

I didn't realise they were on TV now... that would certainly help their popularity. But what on earth is the 'Green Lantern' and 'Martian Manhunter'? Such crappy names. Good point about the Marvel/Universal thing. I assumed that would probably be the case
-
Overall they seem like B-grade superheroes to me. Most kids wouldn't even have heard of them. It's a shame MW couldn't get the Marvel contract after Wonderland closed - they are the most popular by far

Nebuchanezzar - your ideas would certainly stuff up a lot of Luna Park's heritage value. There is no need to change the 'Luna Park' sign. The lettering is effective and has remained the same since the park opened 70 years ago. It is part of the face and towers which are an important iconic Sydney landmark. Although the face, towers and lettering are not the originals (they were entirely rebuilt in the early 1990's) they are based on the exact design and are on the exact same spot

Well said! I totally agree with every point except maybe the Zipper

I'm not liking that screen at all. The Daily Planet facade is the most prominent feature you see as you are walking down Main Street. I think it's a shame to block it with a random video screen

The Western Action Show was fantastic. The atmosphere, the special effects, everything. It was located in the ampitheatre (which later became an enclosed theatre for the crappy Maverick show) in the western themed section. You can still see the building now, although I don't think it's used for anything anymore. It was definitely one of the highlights of a trip to Movie World in the early-mid 90's

I wandered through Luna Park on a couple of different occassions over the xmas school holidays and paid particular attention to the Hard Rock. Judging by the queue lines, it actually seemed to be one of the least popular rides there. The cheap looking Simulator had a queue about 5 times longer and the Dodgems queue seemed to be full. I couldn't figure out why this would be the case. Why would people choose these other rides (which are always there) over the great looking brand new Hard Rock?

I agree about Sea World Nara Resort... it's not so great. It's a shame because it has potential. When it first opened I remember it was a bit more impressive. We stayed there a few years back and kept reading all this advertising saying how the resort had just been through a massive refurbishment. But nothing seemed to have changed! I think they had some new chairs in the lobby and that was about it

I have always thought this style of slide would be the perfect addition for WnW. My only concern is that they are going to be removing an existing slide to install the new slide. Surely this is not a great idea considering one of WnW's biggest issues is capacity. The simple fact is the park is still in need of MORE waterslides. The last few years only brought us the terrible Whirpool Springs

What do YOU want in replacement of the Thunderbolt?

I think the repainted Zipper looks great. It really makes it look so much newer and brings it out of the 70's a bit. Love the red

I'd love to see Movie World grab that title! I am definitely happy to hear about the possible dark ride sections at the start of this ride... it would be keeping in true MW style and would certainly create atmoshpere. In fact that is one of the main reasons MW is my favourite park. For me, dark rides (or rides with dark sections) just add so much more to the overall experience. That is why I have never been a fan of Wonderland or Dreamworld style parks
-
As much as this ride is sounding like it's going to be fun, I hate the way Australian parks have avoided installing a nice standard sit-down hyper with a massive lift hill and continuous circuit. To me, this sort of ride should have been added before all of these variations like launch coasters. The closest we have is Cyclone and that is way off the mark. And Movie World skipped this style of coaster all together
-
I think they are heading in the right direction. We need a decent waterpark or 2 in NSW. Jamberoo isn't likely to spend huge amounts of money which means they would probably never buy a truly decent dry ride. So they might as well spend the cash on good wet stuff

I honestly think the facade looks much better and certainly stands out a lot more without Regan. The IT clown head looks identical to the movie and is very scary. I think it's a definite improvement. Not that I'm a fan of this style of random spray painted artwork
-
I went to the show the other day. The Haunted Mansion truly is crap. The Roller Ghoster is definitely better. The artwork out the front no longer has a picture of Regan but a giant picture of Pennywise the clown from IT instead (very freaky). The ride was possibly a little short though. I remember a few years back there were some really good ghost trains at the show... and certainly more variety than there is now. Does anyone know if these trains are still around and maybe just in other parts of the country? I remember there was one particularly good ghost train which looked a bit like the Haunted Mansion from the outside. Inside, it was just so much better though and longer too. Rather than the crappy lift hill the Haunted Mansion has, it had an elevator which took the train straight up in the dark (kind of like Scooby at MW). I'd love to know what happened to it

SMH Article today -Disney looking at western suburbs...
GoGoBoy replied to Skipper's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think it'd be a bit sad for Disney to choose the site Diane Beamer is promoting in Western Sydney. It is in Prospect for goodness sake. Doesn't sound like a very good location. And 30 hectares really is pretty weak. I don't understand why Blacktown Council are promoting this particular parcel of land as a possible theme park considering its relatively small size? It would certainly not leave much room for future expansion. Surely there are other larger, more appropriate areas of land still available for this sort of thing -
Unfortunately I don't have a scanner. But if you get a chance go to the North Sydney library - they have some great books on Luna Park. One of the best is called Just for Fun by Sam Marshall (it's the one I have)

This was a long time ago. Around the 1940's/50's I think. There is a picture of one of the speedboats in action in the book and on the side of the boat it says 'ZEPHYR'. That's about as much as I can tell you

What is the difference between the RollerGhoster and the Haunted Mansion?
