  1. Why are Village Roadshow parks seemingly becoming so opposed to signage?
  2. How can they not have fixed this in between seasons? Surely they had time to address this system to some extent. It was one of the most complained about issues last season. Put up signs in the queues and on the stairs for f's sake
  3. Great photos. And I agree - a solid addition to the park. However, WWW is still in need of a true expansion and not just one-off individual slides
  4. THANK YOU Richard. Such a waste of space (the direction of the discussion I mean). So, Mini Movie World was right! This sounds excellent. A perfect theme for a 4D theatre experience and a great filler in a low capex year for MW.
  5. At the risk of copping some well-deserved 'I told you so's', I've got to say now that the ride is finished and open I am a convert and think it's really pretty good. AlexB & some others were right and I was wrong (so rare, I know;)) - the finished version of the ride has totally changed my mind. It also appears to be getting rave reviews online. The main reason I like it is the excellent scenery and theming. Some of those details that I have seen in the videos, and that others have mentioned, are fantastic. I love that there are some animated/mechanical elements such as the spinning Tweety etc. The boot hill in the western town right down to the dead grass, the lights on in the windows of the sets and facades, and the way the replicas of the signage and other features are so very accurate but at the same time there is enough creativity and imagination thrown in to make it all come alive - as a good theme park attraction should. And I think that boils down to the reason I approve of it so much - this theming detail has meant it is almost a dark ride itself, albeit a self-propelled one. The fact that adults can go on too makes it a genuine family attraction, whereas we heard initially it would only be for kids. The only negative is the ride's exterior. They've done such a top job inside but then nothing on the outside. The 2D signage stuck to the corrugated wall of the shed makes it look temporary. They could have at least had a few cut-out characters running up along the side of the opening, sticking out a bit to give it more depth and interest. That big rectangle hole cut in the side of the shed doesn't help. I'm a big believer in new attractions adding to the park's general aesthetics and atmosphere, so this means good external presentation, signage and theming. And after that rant, here's another new video. The previous one seems to have been removed:
  6. That 'Second Drop' blog is terrible! Their attempt to write witty captions is an all-out fail. Compare that to the actual witty captions on many Parkz updates
  7. That's so weird! I used to love traffic lights when I was a kid. There's also a traffic light as part of the logo!
  8. Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BOh60kiyFQ This might seem like a strange question - but are there any traffic lights? Surely that would be a feature of a driving ride
  9. Thanks Jordan M. I can't believe how well they've replicated the park's existing theming and signage. The Wb Kids' sign, the spooky coaster sign and theming, Gotham City Cafe, the joker outside Arkham and the Arkham Tower (which is better than the original as it's properly 3D and goes all the way around!). My only concern is this means Movie World must have major confidence that they aren't planning any major changes to the park. Either that or the ride will slowly start to diverge from being an 'accurate' replica of the park as it is
  10. Good on them if they continue to let older people ride it. I'd give them credit for that - meaning it could be considered a family attraction with a focus on kids. Any sign of animatronics or any effects?
  11. But what proof is needed? We know exactly what the ride is. How many surprises can there be? It's not like they're building a new dark ride (I wish!!!) and none of its details have been revealed. It's a mini driving school for kids. Bad choice in my opinion, as many others on here agree. I don't need to see the completed ride to come to that conclusion.
  12. I would have much preferred it if Movie World had made this ride more like Movie Park's 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles License to Drive' attraction: http://www.taaindustries.com/en/proyecto59.html Two things I like about Movie Park's version: it is outdoors, and it's themed to an appropriate IP. I just don't understand the decision to go with a generic 'mini Movie World' theme. And I particularly dislike the fact that they have wasted a massive dark ride show building for it.
  13. Have they given up on painting the concrete blue? I liked the way the concept art made it look like it was over water
  14. It was more the script/voiceover: "We now have the technology, not possible even 3 weeks ago, that takes you INTO the ride... a totally immersive, interactive, mega million-dollar experience - there has never been a ride like this before. Be IN the ride"
  15. ^ Talk about setting people up for disappointment!
  16. Sounds far superior to Movie World's version with vehicles capable of independent motion simulation (as I recently suggested was needed for Justice League at MW) and fully surrounding screens at the end of the rides. The fact that Six Flags will also be extending one of the existing ride buildings shows they are prepared to invest to make this work. MW didn't want to touch their building, and the ride is limited by its size as a result
  17. It seems like all the GC parks these days are going out of their way to build within existing pre-built boundaries rather than expanding and making the individual parks essentially larger or creating new lands. It's a shame really. All of the parks could do with it, especially WhiteWater World which is so small. We know the plans were there but they have been ditched in favour of cheaper in-filling. I should say Sea World may be an exception when they utlilise the reclaimed lake.
  18. 1. Yes. I don't understand what this question is about. 2. I made it clear that my opinion was based on all of the online feedback I have read about the ride. And the POV videos I have watched countless times.
  19. Ridiculous that it is listed under 'thrill rides' on their website. Way to set people up for disappointment. Yeah AlexB I haven't been on it yet, but the public consensus isn't good! I definitely think they needed ride vehicles that at least rotate, similar to Sally's Challenge of Tutankhamon. It would really have helped to deliver some sense of action. Imagine if the vehicles spun during the finale explosion scene! Add a proper blast of wind/smoke directed at the vehicle, similar to the old Wild West Falls finale before it was destroyed, and it would be far more effective. I also think there is a major issue with the animatronics, apart from Cyborg. The corporate dummies just before you enter the main city scene are terrible. The rest of the figures aren't much better. I would have had far more animatronics placed in broken windows popping up randomly so you don't see their whole poorly-animated bodies. I'd also have made the main city scene way more chaotic with lots of noises (where are the sirens??) and damage everywhere (as in the artwork for the ride). You could have a Police car smashed into a street pole with the possessed cop inside the car (again hiding the full body) and smoke coming out of the crumpled bonnet. Aaah, the possibilities
  20. Let me preface this post by saying that I am a huge dark ride fan and I'd like nothing more than to see more dark rides at Movie World, but I truly think from everything I have seen and heard this ride has been a massive failure. It just missed the mark completely. Believe me, it upsets me to say that; I was looking forward to this ride so much and had such high hopes. I have never seen an attraction receive so many criticisms via reviews and comments on the net/social media. Here is a recent comment on the MW page that sums it up nicely: "This on-rails ride was underwhelming to say the least. Some of the 3D screens/projections were reversed for whatever reason (the background depth became foreground) and many of the animated mannequins were so robotic as if they were from a 70's ride (with the exception of Cyborg). With so many similar rides around the world that push the bar including Star Tours, Transformers Ride 3D and King Kong 3D it's disappointing we get such a subpar ride. I wish the original Batman: The Ride was still there - that was a thrilling and family-friendly ride". This post is already too long so I won't go into much more detail or else no one will read it. I'll just say that I think one of the biggest problems was the fact that they tried to fit it into an existing building which was too small. They definitely needed to go for the larger vehicles with actual independent movement to give the ride some much-needed excitement and less of an old ghost train feel.
  21. ^ That may just be the worst press release I've ever read. Put together by a first year public relations student who would be lucky to get a pass
  22. But worse because it's actually marone, yellow and mustard. Worst colours ever. Anyone else also notice that they've given up on the park's 'Aussie' theme with this new slide?
  23. I'm not seeing much rust or corrosion in those photos - especially considering its age and location. When the paint peels off the Sydney Harbour Bridge all you see is rust through and through, and yet Sea Viper is apparently being pulled down 'cause it's in bad shape (slight age difference, I know)
  24. I completely agree with Richard's other point about the level of theming for attractions such as Dreamworks and Pandamonium - entirely appropriate and acceptable for Dreamworld. They were both really neatly done. And judging by the artist's impression of Tailspin, this will be much the same. If Dreamworld sticks to this standard, I would be more than happy. It's a big step up from Six Flags, while obviously not being anywhere near the level of parks known for their fully immersive theming. As long as they don't revert back to the type of theming job we saw on Motocoaster! But I do think going forward Dreamworld really needs to look at actually expanding the park area, and not focusing only on Ocean Parade. A similar thing could be said of Movie World.
