It's interesting that the land is again in Western Sydney and being promoted for use as a theme park by Diane Beamer. Good on her I guess. As much as I am not a fan of seeing a theme park in the Blacktown area again, if the council in that area is going to support it (and they obviously are) then I assume it could be a positive thing. Also in the SMH today there was mention of a proposed high speed rail link between the city and Paramatta. It would significantly cut travel times to Blacktown and surrounds. This could also be a very positive thing for a new park out there. We all know that a new theme park could definitely be feasible in Sydney. You only have to look at the huge response Luna Park has received to see that. Critics will say that it could fail just as Wonderland did. But people in the know (like us) understand that Wonderland closed because Sunway wanted to cash in on land values. Had the park received proper investment and attention over the last 10 years 'failure' would have been unlikely

On the news you could see a staff member standing right next to Bob Carr who was doing most of the operating. It seemed like he was just getting Bob to push the occasional button for effect. In that case you could say that Bob Carr was in training... he had not been left alone to operate the ride by himself. That'd be a scary thought
-
Did anybody watch the news? Bob Carr made an announcement at the park that he has introduced new legislation to stop North Sydney Council from attempting to close the rides due to noise. Great news for Luna Park. There were lots of shots of Bob Carr at the Ranger and it looked like they were showing him how to operate it

As a kid I used to love that chairlift. It really was a great ride. It used to take you over everything - I remember looking down on all the pigs, cows etc. It was also a good way to escape the crowds for a while. I'd say it is one of the major things which is lacking from the new showgrounds. Bring back the chairlift!

I'm very disappointed to hear that the smoke/wind effect has not been reinstated in the final room. How hard would it be to put this back in? I would have considered it a fairly important component of the ride. I don't know how they can just let things go like that - especially at a park which relies so heavily on its quality of theming
-
I still don't know exactly what they have done with that final room now - except that there's a mirror and some strobes. It really upsets me that the effects weren't fully reinstated as they were such a great finale to the ride. I have asked this question before but I keep getting different answers... does anyone know for sure whether the smoke and wind machine in the final room have been reinstalled yet? It used to give you the feeling that you were being pushed out of the mountain by an explosion and was very effective. The final doors would open at the very end as you approached them

I honestly think the back of the mountain area you guys are talking about is perfect. They don't need to do a thing to it - save the money and time for something more important. I think some of you guys are also missing the point of the ride which helps to justify what you are seeing behind the mountain - 1. The room which sticks out of the mountain (the final splashdown room) is meant to be part of the 'mining company' infrastructure which is built into the mountain. There's no reason to try and hide it 2. Most of Movie World's rides are designed with the intention of making you feel like you are on the set of a movie in a studio/sound stage. The majority of the parks buildings are intentionally designed 2D facades which purposely show that they're 'fake'. In keeping with this theme, one would assume that the Wild West Falls mountain is nothing more than an outdoor movie set. And like all sets - it looks great from the front but once you get behind it, you can see that it's only a facade with scaffolding and support structures. Works fine for me

That's so true. I remember the last time I was at Dreamworld (years ago) we were stuck in that GD queue room for sooo long. It was hot and cramped and filled with so many bogans. It was really uncomfortable. It also meant you spent a long time looking at the themeing in that area which is very poor. A few keyboards and fake buttons stuck on the wall do not make good theming

I agree with Richard re Gremlins Adventure. I was actually quite sad to see this taken out as I always found the whole experience lots of fun. I even used to enjoy the pre-show out-takes screening bit... sitting in that nice air conditioned theatre... feeling the suspense building up as you knew something was about to happen. While I do like Scooby overall, I've never been overly impressed with the sets and animatronics in the 'ghost train' section of the ride. It's all a little too basic looking. The indoor queue line area looks great though with all those gargoyles and the misty fountains (assuming they still mist)

Please people... forget about Wonderland's old junk. It was never that good to start with and it's especially not good now. Wonderland's slides had become very dated. WNWSC will no doubt open with brand-spanking-new-state-of-the-art slides and attractions and that's the way it should be

Yeah the coaster at Adventure World (Turbo Mountain) is definitely not the former Wild Cat. When Turbo Mountain was at Luna Park it was called Geronimo and sat on top of the dodgems slab (where the Tumble Bug now is) in the 1980's. We have discussed the Wild Cat and it's history in detail in this thread - http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/sh...read.php?t=1051

Great review... don't forget to add the rest. Considering it's school holidays I would imagine the park was pretty packed. Movie World's rides seem to be pretty good in terms of capacity though. I can't ever remember lining up for too long
-
OK considering no one has offered me anything I will nominate myself for a position - Attraction Operations & Development Manager. It's a very important position as it not only takes into account the day to day running of the slides and pools but it also encompasses research & development into new attractions and improved procedures/policies. I feel special now... just need the board of directors approval (Gazza)

I am so offended right now. I've always wanted to work for a waterpark and I don't even get the slightest hint of a job offer
-
How can you hate Movie World and yet love Luna Park? Movie World is leaps and bounds ahead of either of the Luna Parks. It doesn't make sense. I am setting my alarm for 10:20am so I wake up in time to watch the 10:30 screening. Sounds like a very interesting show - I have always wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes at WBMW

Are these 'brakes' just on Terror Canyon II? Because if they are then it's a pretty good sign they are left over from when it was River Rapids
-
What are these brakes you keep talking about Gazza? Are they part of TCII or were they on River Rapids? I've never heard of brakes on a waterslide
-
This is something I've always been curious about too. I always thought Terror Canyon II was just River Rapids with a roof put on top and maybe some slight modifications. The reason I thought this was because I remember seeing an updated park map and the layout of the slide was identical to the way it had been as River Rapids, only they had drawn in the enclosed roof. I also remember seeing a picture of the final part of Terror Canyon II and it looked like the roof had just been tacked on. As I have never seen TCII in person I don't know for sure. I remember River Rapids being a fun ride so I was never sure why they made the changes. From what I can remember, at various points along the circuit you would come across walls of water or rapids. I think these were created in a similar way to traditional rapids rides by putting an elevated object under the water to interupt its flow. On top of this my guess is that they also pumped out a bit of extra water through vents/jets in this area

My favourite ride at Dreamworld is the new beachside campground monster one but I also like the doom skull thing

Haha still laughing about the oil rig ride

I agree but it's funny because Luna Park themselves didn't help at all in regards to the surrounding building clutter. One of the worst buildings behind Maloney's Corner in my opinion is the one which was actually built by Luna Park last year. The government let them build it to help fund the park apparantley. It is the most obtrusive building there and completely adjoins Maloney's Corner at its base. Before this was built the area was actually a steep untouched hillside covered in vegetation. It would have been a much nicer backdrop to complement the rides
